Air Gesture - Screenshot Capture - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

So the S4 has a built in screenshot capture using an air gesture. All my other gestures work besides this one. Anyone else have the same issue (yes, it's enabled in options). I can't even get passed the tutorial where they show you how to use it.

are you touching the screen? You kind of swipe the side of your hand across the screen, but I find you do need to touch it most of the time.

how to test screen resonsiveness?

is there an app or a tool that I can use to see how "responsive" my screen is? I just want to see if I have the "improperly grounded" issue

if you haven't noticed a problem, then there either isn't one, or it doesn't affect you. it's when you go looking for problems that you find them. just leave well enough alone!
Ok, but how do you test? Ive seen apps where u can draw lines and stuff but I can't find anything on the market. What is a good app?

The grounding issue can be seen when you put the phone down on a surface ( non conducive) and try to operate the phone. Mine is most severe on the upper half of the screen, like when sliding the top bar down. Then touch the back cover and try it again.

Yeah, I only know it when I'm trying to slide the notification bar down when it is lying on the couch or something. The rest of the screen is fine.
Putting it down flat and trying to pull the top bar down I would say is the easiest way. I have problems with it

The app Multitouch Visible Test in the Market will let you see up to 2 touch points on the screen. I use it for everything I test with.

pen only mode please!!

If anyone is using the device as a drawing tablet, this would be very helpful. Let me explain why.
I downloaded the autodesk sketchbook, the application works great, but better if there is an option to completely shut off the touch input because in real life while drawing we do not want hand accidentally touch the canvas and leave any unwanted marks on the work. I know the tablet automatically disable touch input while the pen is within a certain distance, but the distance is only about 1.5 cm (too short !!). My hand always touches the screen and leaves unwanted marks while painting. Someone already suggested that wearing a glove while working, well, that's only a temporary solution. I would assume most artists would not want to paint with gloves on because it just does not feel right.
To sum it up, I would suggest an option to activate "pen only mode" while the pen is not in the pen slot would be perfect!

When the pen icon (blue, in the upper right corner) is selected it serves the same function in S-Note.
Thank you for mentioning this, but this function seems to be S-note only. It does not work in other application while it's turned on in S-note...
I think he's asking for a pen-only mode on a system level.
I think it probably has to be implemented within different programs by the developers. I did notice how effective it was within S-note, though.
otherwise my finger was randomly creating Marks and lines as I was zooming in and out.

It's something that could be implemented at the OS level if for example CyanogenMod wanted to make it a feature. That's a pretty clever idea actually and wouldn't be too hard to implement. I don't know if mainline CM would accept it but it could always be in an unofficial build.

On my N8000, the screen does not accept finger input when and as long as the S-Pen is in range of the screen (point marker enabled, point marker visible on screen)
The Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet got it implemented with an update to ICS.
Maybe Samsung can do that to ?
Someone should suggest this to Samsung some how. Maybe having a toggle in the notification bar would be handy.

I found the pen works much better when "Battery Saving" is checked in the Pen options. Before that I was having issues with it getting confused between my fingers and the pen even when the pen was docked.
Lecture notes has this feature as well. It's pretty cool! You can use your fingers for scrolling and zooming and it won't leave any marks on the paper. The pen writes and draws, and your fingers zoom and navigate. It works amazingly well. Hopefully in the future more apps will have this feature enabled.

I wish S-Note had Locked Zoom.

they are times when I don't want note to zoom in because my palm registered before my s-pen did. It's only and I can't believe this wasn't a default option on ALL S-PEN. The s-pen gives unparalled accuracy so I like to use it non-zoom and write small.
There's an option to enable 'palm check.' At least on my Note 2, which I assume is similar. Waiting on my N8000.

Yeah, I agree. I think I will just buy a glove though that covers my palm. I still want the ability to zoom, but I Just don't want it happening when I'm trying to lay down lines for art.

I'm not quite sure what you're meaning by palm check, there is a function for "SPen only" but that one only disables the one finger touch that is for drawing etc. Disable the multitouch for zooming and pan however, isn't possible in SNote at this point.

Anyone having problem with SNote, please contact Samsung and tell them about it and demand a solution. Hopefully with enough people complaining, Samsung will realize that the new SNote isn't any good and change it. Preferably allow us to downgrade SNote to the precious, working version.

I agree. Samsung keep developing the device and they have not look into their most important application. Are they even serious with their consumer? Sigh..
agree! I found it really annoying everytime I use it to take notes. There should be a lock zoom mode in the s note setting.
I agree that S-note could have a few features like locked zoom and hide toolbar... those would be great. I like the new snote though. I dont think you guys should call Samsung to complain, just suggest. Maybe someone on xda can release a downgrade apk?

Or just a two finger zoom that actually worked and not recognized the hand, just like the old version. Just of curiosity, what do you like better with the new one? Do you maybe have a different version of the new SNote that actually works?
That's what I'm hoping as well but there are a couple of different threads around an so far nothing has really come out of them.

I have the snote that came with jb 4.1.2 US n8013. The UI feels alot faster, the spen button to switch to eraser is an awesome feature. It also switches from formula match to eraser and then Back to formula match which is very good since id always make the mistake of going to pen and losing my formula. I cant think of anythinf else atm but i can tell you that apart from the zoom, i havent had major issues with it.

Well that explains it, I run the 4.1.1 version of Android and that comes with a different version of SNote than yours and the 4.1.1 version just doesn't work properly. I really hope that we get the 4.1.2 version of SNote as well since it seems to work much better than our.

Simple trick to Lock the zoom
Hi,
When I'm writing using S Note, I lock the zoom by using my other hand's 3 fingers to touch the screen.
when you write the usual way, you will notice that it will not have any annoying zoom anymore.
hope it works for everyone too.

So if you're right handed. You use your left hand's 3 fingers and hold the screen while write with your right hand? That sounds like a pain. When I take notes I just make sure the spen is sensed before I put my palm down and no zoom. Takes some getting use to or make it a habit.

I discover how to dont zoom with hand on display
When you want to write with hand on display, you must first do this: put your thumb to the corner and THEN you must start write and put your palm on display in one time! since that your moves of hand display doesnt recognize and doesnt zoom, you can go to another list but you must have your thumb on display all the time or do it again (put hand and write in one time). Its not 100% but usually works and have thumb in corner isnt so annoying. . .
It requires root, but I added 'Disable finger input' action to my spen control app. It disables all finger touch (and capacitive buttons on Note 1 and 2) until you execute this action again or turn screen off. I implemented this after I got tired of accidental zooming on Note 10 and hitting capacitive back or menu on Note 1. My drawing experience is completely different now. Needless to say, S Pen is fully working in this mode and it disable finger input in all apps, not just S Note.
Do you think its worth making a separate application just for this? It would still require root .

That would be a blessing. I purchased your Gesture Control app and is really helpfull to hide the Nav bar and prevent the annoying Notification bar from showing every time I'm writting within SNote. Maybe you could make a setting within your app to block any hand touch within the S Note app. The only issue I have is that I have to add S Note to blacklist to prevent gesture control from executing accidentaly within S Note. I haven't got the Spen app yet. Do you think the S Pen gesture app would add a convenient way to go back to home screen without having to turn the screen on and off, in order get the Nav bar back?
I really recommend Gesture Control and S Pen Control. Those are one the top 5 five apps we must have for our Galaxy Note 10.1
Samsung screwed up big time with S Note hand detection.

I have the US version of the N8013 too. I had mine just rooted before the update, i did the 4.1.2 update and haven't found a way to configure the S Pen button to work as an eraser within the S Note app. I even spent $40 to buy the S Pen with eraser so I wouldn't have to click back and forth between eraser and writting mode from the top bar. Pardon me if I've being a Dumb Ass!!! If a press twice the button it goes into brush mode, if press it once thereafter, it goes to marker mode, and after that if I press the button once, it switches back and forth between brush and Marker mode, but never goes back to regular pencil mode unless I reach the top bar and change it back that way. I checked for pen settings under S Note settings and general settings, and I just can't find anything to configure the S Pen button to perform a particular action.
I didn't do a factory reset after the update. Do you think this could be the reason, and maybe I'm just having bugs due to it?
Maybe I have do a complete factory restore, any suggestion on Stock base rom with full S Note functionality?

You can download spen control (trial) from thread in my signature and it has 'disable finger input' action. I don't want to expand on other features as this is not the right thread, but spen app allows you to execute all actions similar way to gesture control, just gestures are executed with spen. I'm just wondering if it is worth making root app that just does this one action - disable/enable finger input.

I'm having the same issue (same version tablet) too.... quite annoying that you cannot find configuration for the S pen in it's most used app. It would be great if I could create a toggle between eraser and pencil/pen mode but nothing seems to do that.

Put it on the flat surface and wait for a while, don't move the phone at all...
Once there's no movement for a while, the phone thinks its no more in your hands, the quick glance will work...
You can try going to Settings -> My Devices -> Motion and gestures -> Air Gestures -> Quick glance -> "Try It" to see if it works...
Not working also. I were try all the way like change to swipe lock screen, put on flat surface and not touching for a minute but still not working. I think i should take a video and show it to you tomorrow. Any more way to recomment?

I have the same problem here with my GT-I9500.
But it worked before and now works only once in a while.
Any help?
I noticed that it doesn't work sometimes ... but most of the time it's fine ...i believe it has to do with the sensors giving wrong measurements about the positioning of the phone ... or maybe some bug ...
My GS4 Quick glance stopped working few days ago unless I restarted my phone and it would only work once so I don't know what's wrong with it..

same here, quick glance not working. I put my phone on flat surface, I tried "Try It" and it works fine and sometimes my phone turns on quick glance even though Im not moving anything in front of it. My lockscreen is set for swipe, no serious mods, just rooted i9505
EDIT: uninstalling performance booster really helped!
You need calibrate the sensor with commands in terminal. I did it and now its working fine. Its an easy process, but need root.

I've watched various videos but after enabling the service and swiping the screen nothing happens. I've tried different swipe motions but no luck activating the reduced window. Appreciate any help.

Make sure you swipe all the way off the screen. You have to end the swipe over (or past) the bezel. Obviously you have to enable the feature from settings also (its off by default). Also make sure you are doing the gesture for the Note 4, the note 3 had a different gesture.
not sure what the note 3 gesture is as I've never owned one . I am actually uploading a video of me doing and will be postingit in a second

No thats not what he is talking about. He is talking about shrinking the entire screen down, not the smaller keyboard. This feature is off by default in the Note 4, but is a nice one to have on occasion.

You are doing it totally wrong. Only go to the middle of the screen (not all the way across) and without lifting the thumb go all the way back to the bezel.
Thanks after trying it over and over again I finally got it, I was basically doing the action to slow. If you watch my video you have to do the motion 2 times faster and it will work 100% of the time. Really appreiate the help
