how to test screen resonsiveness? - EVO 4G General

is there an app or a tool that I can use to see how "responsive" my screen is? I just want to see if I have the "improperly grounded" issue

if you haven't noticed a problem, then there either isn't one, or it doesn't affect you. it's when you go looking for problems that you find them. just leave well enough alone!

Ok, but how do you test? Ive seen apps where u can draw lines and stuff but I can't find anything on the market. What is a good app?

The grounding issue can be seen when you put the phone down on a surface ( non conducive) and try to operate the phone. Mine is most severe on the upper half of the screen, like when sliding the top bar down. Then touch the back cover and try it again.

Yeah, I only know it when I'm trying to slide the notification bar down when it is lying on the couch or something. The rest of the screen is fine.

Putting it down flat and trying to pull the top bar down I would say is the easiest way. I have problems with it
Sent from my EVO 4G suckas!

The app Multitouch Visible Test in the Market will let you see up to 2 touch points on the screen. I use it for everything I test with.

Does anyone use PocketCM?? I have a problem

Hello all,
Does anyone here use PocketCM (an iPhone-like application for contacts)? It's a great program and works really well except when I try to install and select a new theme. When I go to the settings and press "Choose Theme", it only lets me choose one theme (the defaul), and I can't scroll over or anything to select a different theme. I hope this makes sense, and I hope someone out there knows something about this. I was gonna post in the forum on PocketCM's website, but I can't register in it for some reason. Please help me out if you can! Thanks!

Nevermind -- I figured out a way that works (even though it's very inconvenient)

no harm dude, but i think almost everyone here uses pocketcm lol
How does one search for a contact with this pocketcm ? Dont tell me one has to go click on every alphabet? Say I want to look for Jayne - cant I just type Jay etc and out pops Jane or wutever else?

No. You can slide your finger down either the left or right side of the touchscreen and when you release your finger it will jump to that alphabet in your list.

Yes. Just start typing and PocketCM will narrow down your list of contacts which match the characters you typed.

Haha, I wasn't sure.
Anyway, I guess another question is, does anyone have trouble when sliding, and the program will just randomly decide that you meant to press on a name instead of sliding? If that makes sense...?

Errr type where??
I use PocketCM also. I do experience a little glitch when searching the contact alphabetically, when scrolling from the left; it will sometimes show my favorite contacts instead. Does anyone experience this also?

Just slide out your keyboard and type.
But if without the keyboard? How?
Pocket CM disappointment
I'm actually pretty disappointed when it comes to this app, for a two reasons:
1) it randomly hangs: sometimes when I'm scrolling the display just stops working and in my impatience i continue to click and before I know it I've either called someone that I didn't mean to, or i've opened someone for editing.
2) side scroll (alphabetically) does not work worth a damn. It NEVER goes to the letter that I specify, always stops short. I would say that this happens randomly... but no, it happens consistently, every time. Any ideas what is causing this? The only time is seems to work is when I'm going upwards.
Does anyone have any ideas about these two problems ?
Thanks.

I don't have any ideas about those two problems (sorry), but I'm also a little disappointed with the app. Like why I orinigally started this thread, it's such a hassle for me to install new skins because it doesn't work like it's supposed to. Or the inconsistent scrolling, or the hanging like you mentioned.
Also, (although this is minor), has anyone else noticed that if you leave Pocket CM open and go back to the Today screen, and lock the buttons, the top eighth of the screen or so shows the Pocket CM app, and everything else is the Today screen? Does that make sense? Anyway, it's a minor detail, but it's kind of a sore-sight. Has anyone been able to fix this?

applications tab slides from side in portrait view

Hi, I have never posted in these forums before but I have been using them ever since I had my tmobile wing.
Anyway today my friend asked to see my G1 and idk what he pressed or did but my applications tab was on the right side of my screen while my phone was in portrait mode. It looked sweet it slid out and all the icons were small. How do you do this? When I opened and closed my phone the tab returned to nomal.
My phone is rooted by the way with JFv1.42_RC33 as my rom.
that happens to me all the time
its a software glitch
i just restart my phone
It really doesn't matter to me because the dock is fine at the bottom, but I think being able to dock the application tab on the bottom, top or sides would just add to each users comfort and enjoyment.. and we all like to be able to customize various aspects of our G1, so why not the dock location?

its never happened to me but i think it's just a random glitch that happens when you open the keyboard.
but from the screenshots of it someone posted a while back, it does (in my opinion) look much better.
as far as i know, no one's been able to 'recreate' it.
This happens to me all the time on the h build. So annoying, it's like the phone doesn't know its in landscape mode. The tab gets in the way of the shortcuts etc. I can't wait to get back to G

Happens to me randomly, usually when I close the keyboard and rotate the phone at the same time.

no offence, but thats not what the OP was talking about. That's a known issue, rather than a random glitch.
Go the thread on adding features in the development forum, and download the launcher.apk there. Problem solved.

[Q] Is this normal or some weird effect?

when i click the the right (down) corner of the 10.1 tab to pop up the control panel (wifi, rotation, etc), it will also bring the whole right side of screen a smear of shadow/darkness , kind of like some visual effect associated with the control panel poping up..
is this normal? it really bothers me...
The one I returned did that so I'm guessing its normal...I can tell you tomorrow if my new one does.

I hate this effect. Way over done.
It threw the first time I saw it. Actually think it's hot.

Touch speed in SGS2

Hello,
SGS2, has a bit lag with touch dragging over the screen.
I will explain : try to touch any movable object on the screen, for example a scrollable internet page.
Now try to move your finger up and down, up and down, for a couple of time,
you will feel a little bit delay of the moving object.
Now, I did try MIUI for example, and the problem doesn't exist.
So, this is absolutely software issue, I guess the kernel is responsable for that.
Is there any solution for this one ?

Thanks, but this is not exactly what I meant.
Even when the screen begins to move, and you are moving your finger, the screen is moving lazily after your finger, and not like it was stuck to your finger as it suppose to be.
Maybe is't a performance issue, but, again, in MIUI for example the screen moves as it was stuck to your finger.
Also for me it seems to stutter for the first second or so after touching the screen, then going smooth as butter. I haven't tried any custom roms so I don't know if it's a software issue or not.

Try that app, as I remember something like that, and changing it to 0 or 5 fixes it.
Or try a custom kernel with the fix applied.
this might be because the touch system is figuring out if you're doing a CLICK or a DRAG or a SLIDE or whatever. it will take around half a second for it to figure out if you just touched the screen once or you held down the screen and slide it across.
Some kernels address this issue , most roms will have it fixed and those who don't just flash different kernel , only stock rom will have this problem.

Air Bubble around the Home Button

I found out that i have a little bubble at the upper right side of the Home Button....is there anybody with something similar ?
It became quite annoying as i tend to look at it instantly when i use the phone..
Don't look at the screen shield, i removed is just to check then i managed to reinstall it but it's way too far from perfect...
is it under the screen protector or actually under the screen?

It looks to me as you have a screenprotector applied, look in the bottom right screen corner where its cut. Never seen or heard of bubbles in a glas screen itself
