I can't reset all device, but I have Titanium backup and is able to clear cache and wipe specific app data, and I cleared the S voice app but still does not work.
Tried to install also manually the apk and does not work either.

bring it back to where you bought it and return it for a replacement then... or just use google now, doesnt google now work better i heard?
OK just figure this out.
Although this must be some bug of stock 4.2.2, I found the solution.
Removed the app completely with TB, cleared system cache from stock recovery and on TB app also, rebooted 2 times and installed manually the s voice apk, now I can speak to my phone normally and the girl do what I say.
Thanks anyway :good:

Yeah more or less Google now works.
The problem here with S voice is for non root users if they encounter this issue you cannot manage system apps or uninstall completely as you can do with TB on a rooted device, then you have to factory reset all device again witch is a pain.
Anyway is working just perfect now, witch is cool
Clear App data in Application manager..fixes this

i had the same issue a couple days ago. i only found one solution to it on my nexus, and its odd. apparently when you go into settings, applications, application settings, you dont have access to the maps cache like on the g1. so i found another way. only through an app called quick system info was i able to access the application info. there i pressed an uninstall update button, then came back and cleared data. since then its been working fine. i still dont get what update i uninstalled because its the same exact maps i had before.
wow thanks hah that worked

I have a stock S5 that I just bought. After a couple days I started noticing an extremely long delay when doing anything with text messages. I hit send and it just sits there. I can't hit back or anything. The home button will take me home. When sending I don't even see my message until everything returns. Anyone have any idea what may be causing this? TIA
Try clear data/cache and force stop for the app?

Thanks for the reply. I gave that a try with no luck. I cleared cache but afraid to clear data because it says it will permanently delete everything.

Clear data will clear all your messages and makes the app like its still new. Probably a corrupted message file or anything can affect its performance.

So it will delete my messages?
This seems to be a well known issue with the S5 although the suggestions don't seem to fix my problem. The solutions also say to clear cache and data on the Samsung keyboard.
Maybe power-saving mode? It kinda lags the mobile. Reduces performance of some stuff to lag to save some battery. Not sure tho

You can back up text messages, i would try that and clear data, see how it goes, if it does nothing then just restore the back up.
Sent from my SM-G900A using Tapatalk
Power saving mode is off. I thought this was related to using the Samsung Smart Switch app to recover everything from my iPhone. So I deleted everything, cleared the cache and data from the message app and the Samsung keyboard app. No luck with that either. However, I did discover the AT&T app for messaging that came pre-loaded on the phone and remembered another article that suggested trying another default messaging app. So I did and that seems to work much better. I know it's not a fix, but at least it's a workaround I can live with. I actually like this app because I have text, call history, and my visual voicemail all in one app.
There are plenty of complaints around the internet about this "bug" so maybe it will be something that gets addressed in Lollipop next month.
Mine lags because of the amount of messages I have stored. Will try to clear cache, but I don't think it works
Well if you looking for a messaging app, google's messenger app is pretty good too!

I'm pretty sure a factory reset will do it. You might just "dirty flash" your rom again, so you wont lose anything in the internal sd.
Good luck, and hope this will do it! :fingers-crossed:

Trying installing AROMA version of OpenGapps. Then select google search, voice and assistant related stuff. I believe that worked for me when I had this issue on Nougat.

Frickin corruption I tell you !
Again thanks to all that helped me or read the post !
And thanks to slgooding for the actual fix
Ya know what? I was having the same problem. No matter what I did, voice settings, clearing cache, and clearing data, uninstalling completely, updating, using apps 2sd to turn on all permissions,
downgrading, etc.. Couldn't get voice activation to whimper at all. So, by accident, I was messing with kernel auditor, to reset my cpu ranges, reset them, and viola! Voice activation worked, as if there was never a problem at all! What I'm saying is, if you're rooted, and use a cpu manager, check your settings. It may not work for you, but, check that too. Aggressive settings may cause problems too. I thought google's updates broke voice, and they were clamping down on rooters, and their roms(hell, they already busted Magisk).
I have version 7.1.2 on my phone, and I thought it was google's fault.

When you say "reset my cpu ranges" are you simply clicking on the reset button on this screen on Kernel Adiutor? Any downside to resetting the CPU range? Thanks

No he is referring to the CPU ranges found under CPU if you never touched those ranges than there is a low chance that resetting would help
There's a new update on the Play Store for the stock Google Phone app. And man they killed one thing I LOVED the most about it, the swipe to the different panels. I would always swipe left to my Favorites, or swipe right to the Contacts, or further swipe to the Voicemail. It was so smooth and fast, to just swipe from anywhere on the screen.
Now it's been moved to the bottom of the screen, no more swiping, now you need to tap on which panel you want. Which to me takes even longer now, and is not as fast and smooth as before.
I have been using the stock Google or ASOP Phone app for years, probably 8 years or so. This change is no bueno.
It was probably done for the benefit of those with phones that had less than quality touch screens and might have activated swipes unintentionally.
I dont mind though.
Oh man. Just go the update, too. I hate it that I can't swipe. In what weird direction is Google moving? I don't get it. They keep removing great features or replacing them with things nobody asked for or things completely out of touch with users.
The argument of the guy above me is kinda invalid. Even the worst digitizer + SoC combo will be able to do a simple swipe. I don't buy that argument, whoever came up with it. Even if they did not. In what world is an inferior, low end device getting a recent Android version on which the latest phone app is available?
Thank god apk mirror exists. AFAIK 18.0.187698947 is the latest and last one with swipe enabled.
Do you have the link for the .apk of a previous Phone app

I haven't been able to use the "Phone" app since the update!

since I can't even open the app, I can't even get rid of the update.
Any suggestions?

That would seem to indicate that it has not been updated, and the update is not the cause of your issue. Try updating?

I take it you're saying the May security update is when your phone app broke, right? If that's the case, you can try flashing the May factory image after removing -w from the batch file. That 'should' rewrite the phone app, but I am not 100% sure it will. If not, a factory reset/reflash with wipe command left in batch file might be necessary unless someone else has an idea.
Maybe try an earlier version apk from apkmirror.com

No the May update was fine, right after the app update started crashing.
But I think I'll try the earlier version from "apkmirror.com" before committing to re-flashing again.
Thank you.

Cool! Good to know you didn't have to do a reset.
Based on the layouts for their new apps like the pixel 2 launcher or chrome beta, it looks like they are making apps easier to navigate with one hand by placing things towards the bottom of the screen. Seems easier to navigate than having to reach to the top of the screen in the prior version.
