sms notifications - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

When receiving an sms all I see is "Message received".. I'm coming from a galaxy nexus with aosp sms'ing and it was very handy to see the person who texted me in the notification without having to enter in to the app just to see this information.
Is there a way to enable this on the stock sms app for the gs4?
Thanks!

Open up your Stock Text application and go into settings. Scroll down to "Preview Message" and check the box.

Additionally, you can scroll over on the lock screen and add a text widget to the lock screen. This widget allow you to scroll through all of your text messages without unlocking the phone.

Google Voice and Text messaging (SMS)

I've searched and haven't found definitive instructions on this. I want to move my text messaging to Google Voice from my phone. Ideally, I'd like to transfer all my current text messages to Google Voice's text inbox, and then I want to text using my Google voice app so my phone in a sense is not involved. Basically, I want to move my text messaging to the Google Voice cloud. Is that a possibility?
Thanks

Not sure about being able to import into GoogleVoice, but I know generally speaking the google voice app can use your stock massager for any incoming messages (or can just use itself).
Essentially as long as you only give out your Google Voice number you should only be sending/receiving texts via the google voice app, but in terms of importing existing texts into google voice, I don't think that's possible (ie: I doubt google would want you to anyways for texts that didn't go thru their system)

Edit: "Sorry, at present, there is no means for importing SMS messages."
and I doubt they'll ever allow it, since there may be legal reasons for only allowing SMS history on GV to have only have been transmitted over GV.

Which one?
I know to disable the Status bar one you go to messages then hit your menu softkey -->Settings (uncheck Notifications)
if you want to keep that and remove the Preview then go to the messages app hit your menu softkey --> Settings (uncheck Preview messages)

SOLVED:
You can disable notifications in Settings>Application Manager swipe over to all apps, then down to Samsung, as well as Samsung Apps. Click on each, and uncheck "Notifications".
Hope this helps someone.

Stock touchwiz sms app (Messages) 5.1.1 will not mark sms as read

I'm using 5.1.1 and the stock messages touchwiz app on my s5. When you pull down the notification shade and swipe an sms notification away then put the device to sleep for a few minutes, eventually it notifies you again that there is a new message. The "new message" though is always the previous message that you tried to dismiss the notification for though.
Is there anyway to fix this or is it an issue others have seen? I searched but haven't really found any references to this happening. The previous touchwiz based rom that I was on (5.0 based) had the s6 messages app ported to it and it didn't have this problem.

Can i see only new text messages?

I want to see only new text messages not previous unreaded messages in the lock screen. Is it possible to do that? When I get a message all of the previous unreded messages shown with new messege its really frusturating.

Separate sounds for mail and messages

My mum has a A1 and used to have different sounds for mails and messages .. but since the last update she only has the ability to set one sound. Is there a way to get it working again?
Thanks in advance
Maybe the apps fr mail and messages have settings where yuo can choose sounds? For example m Textra messaging app lets me choose a different sound than other notifications. So does my Blue Mail app. I don't know how widespread that is though.

Checked, and for example Gmail lets you choose notificatin sounds as well. Settings - choose account - manage notifications -advanced - sound
(Wanted to point it out since it's sort of the default app for many)

There is a default sound setting which is probably what you are finding. But each application Jas its own notifications settings to override the default
Android Settings. Apps. Select desired app. Expand notifications.
