Which one?
I know to disable the Status bar one you go to messages then hit your menu softkey -->Settings (uncheck Notifications)
if you want to keep that and remove the Preview then go to the messages app hit your menu softkey --> Settings (uncheck Preview messages)

SOLVED:
You can disable notifications in Settings>Application Manager swipe over to all apps, then down to Samsung, as well as Samsung Apps. Click on each, and uncheck "Notifications".
Hope this helps someone.

I didnt like the way the emails and messages opened in the home tab, ie it goes straight to the latest message so I added the mail and messages programs from the start menu to my quick links which corrects these problems. However, there is no notifications on the quick links to notify me if I've got a message or not. Is there a way you can get notifications to come up like it does on the home tabs?

You can set notifications to show on screen messages for these events, yeah.
Go to Settings, All Settings, Sounds & Notifications, Notifications (tab) and when you go to message or new email message, you can set it to "Display message on screen".
Hope this helps

Unfortunately not because if I go into settings I don't have an option for 'All settings'. The only option I can find for notifications is under display and sounds, and I can only change the sounds and vibrate for notifications. Am I doing something wrong?

Sorry - it's the settings tab, then Menu, then All settings.
It's frustrating because All Settings is what the settings icon in the start menu used to do, and some people have modified the registry so that it's back that way (me included), so when you want someone to go to settings, you have to actually tell them to go to the settings tab, then menu, then all settings, when you just want the bloody windows settings screen!! lol

Thanks, I never even knew that all settings was even there.I'll see if that works, cheers
The notification wasn't exactly what I was after, with the fix suggested above a pop up comes up saying new sms which is not exactly what I was after. What I wanted was something like on the messages on the tabs where you get a green circle superimposed with a number of how many messages you have. Can that be done?
Ah - I see what you're saying now. Sorry, I misunderstood.
Have you looked at MaxManila at all? That does exactly what you're asking.

Hello guys!
My first post on this forum, please excuse me if this has already been covered, but I don't see it anywhere..
The sms preview screen is driving me nuts... I always click on "All messages" to see threaded view...
Is there any way to mod the phone so it just goes STRAIGHT to "all messages" in threaded mode when you click on the text messages icon?
Are there any cab files available for the issue? I don't see a way to disable it right on my phone out of the box...
Many thanks!!!
BTW. I'm talking about the simple black screen with white font that pops up when you move the slider on the home screen to "Messages".
That black screen is so freaking annoying!!!
Bump, Anyone?
well....
well i dont know of a way to make the tab go straight into all messages, but you could uncheck the show messages tab in settings=personalize home tabs and just add a shortcut for messages to your homescreen
DUDE!!! That was one of those things that was right in front of my face but I didn't see. Excellent call. It's an even easier way to get into messaging than what I was trying to get.
Cheers!
i use CHT so i disabled the tab and set the defualt messaging client to the message icon in my start menu

anyone can advise if it is possible to disable the default messaging app?
thanks.....
Hi - I don't think you need to disable the app to do what you want.. am I reading you right if I say that you don't want the default message app NOTIFICATIONS? if that's right then you can switch that off within the default message app settings menu.

Open messaging, press menu, press settings, notifications should be 3rd from the bottom.
Open the app drawer, then Messaging, then settings.
Thanks guys!!! That worked!
I have looked through the settings but there's nothing that disable notifications on the lockscreen.
the thing is I have setup the default SMS app with Dashclock/Dashnotifier but the SMS app ignores all of that and appears on its on separate panel in the lockscreen.
hope you guys can chime in on this

hmm. I tried that option before but it doesn't change anything :/
Unticking Preview Message just means you won't see the contents of the SMS and just "Message" instead
Just been wondering about this? ? bug
