I was trying to S beam some stuff over with my note 2 to my new s4 but couldn't make it work. I've done it many times with friends with the S3. So I took out the back case of my black S4 and I didn't see the NFC sensor that my note 2 has. Anyone else out there know if its suppose to come with the NFC sensor or not.. Thanks.
Isn't the NFC included in the battery?

Yes its in the battery. Your battery should say "Near Field Communication" on it

The Note 2 NFC location is pretty high, put the S4 to the camera area of the Note 2 and it'll work just fine.
NFC Beaming
I was having the same issue this weekend with beaming things from my note 2 to my friends S4. After doing a lot of trouble shooting, i found that the S4 has to be inverted to beam. I know weird. the phones have to 69 to beam.

If the NFC is in the battery, does that mean it will be harder to find quality OEM batteries? Ya know, with the NFC being in the battery and all.

When you look around for batteries just make sure they say NFC included on it. I remember a good portion of the high capacity S3 batteries didn't have NFC and then I think Mugen or something came out with one. Just gotta read carefully.
Actually~
I believe this round's NFC is associated directly with the SIM.
I remember reading when ordering the device that it comes with the device and the NFC-ready SIM or some such thing, as compared to the battery or back housing like other devices had in the past.
Very odd this is..I was thinking the S4 had a diff kind of NFC, since it worked with S3 and not N2. Held it upside down. Worked...
So I guess the S4 and Note II have to perform 69 in order to beam stuff, huh?
Sent from my SGS II~SGH-i777 using Xparent Skyblue Tapatalk 2
U gotta place the s4 half way higher on the note 2 to get it to work. I transferred movies to my friends note 2 that way so I know it works. Only thing I couldn't get to transfer was music. Ive done it before on my s3 but the s4 wont. Its weird

SO much bad information being spread on this thread, I had to step in and help out.... the NFC chip is inside your phone, the NFC antenna is what's on the outside layer of your battery! Here's a good article for everyone here to read since no one has identified this correctly:
http://samsunggeeks.com/2012/07/03/nfc-explained-nfc-for-smartphones/#.UYP8o7WV9B0
Here's a link to what the antenna looks like under the battery label:
http://tamsandroid.tamoggemon.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/nfc_battery.jpg
Your phone absolutely came with an NFC chip and an NFC antenna, let's not get too carried away because you either A) didn't have NFC or S Beam enabled on the S4, it's a different process than it was with the SIII, or B) weren't using it correctly!

No, the NFC isn't in the SIM. Some carriers are using 'special' SIM's which are used as some sort of secondary authentication for NFC transactions. I think this was to satisfy the banks and credit card companies. The actual NFC sensor/antenna is still in the battery.

I was reading a post in Phandroid last night about Verizon not including Google Wallet for it's version of the Galaxy Nexus, for Verizon's partnership with ISIS, and spare batteries not supporting NFC (third party batteries that is) because the NFC chip is built in to the battery itself.
I don't know if this was covered here already, bit I have read countless posts from folks wanting to enable NFC on their Galaxy S2.
Hopefully this will help someone get to the bottom of hacking it into our GS2's

Well, in case you really have a faulty one which is only 3 month old, you have warranty and it will be replaced. Products who are sold by millions are always some defective, electronics.... I had the same with my Sony cyber shot camera.... a few years back. Just go back to the store and get a new one.

I'm not sure about this because he said its the same with the charger plugged in, and it will run with the charger plugged in but no battery.
If you don't have a spare battery to try use a multimeter put the probes across the positive and negative terminals of the battery if there's an output on the screen its fine.
That's if you have a multimeter

take it back to the store you got it from, ask them to put a battery in it for you to check whether its faulty, they shouldnt have a problem with this. If its still dead then you dont need to worry about the fact you have probably flashed a cooked recovery / rom or rooted, it will be dead, they'll likely just swap it out. - albeit via samsung.

Tried and tested, AOSP is definitely faster on the GS3 and battery lasts longer than stock (depends on your usage) if your not a fan of AOSP and like the Touchwiz wait for the Jellybean update to come.. shouldnt take long now..
hey guys im in stock rooted with stock recovery on mdl and the NFC feature doesnt work with any phone i try with and S3 a note 2 and also with the HTC one and nothing.! and the other phones works perfect with each other
Stock rooted here...no issues with NFC between my S4 and my wife's Note 2. I do have to find the sweet spot by moving the phones until nfc connects.

Well I got very lucky. I tried the Good home trial program where they sent me 4 different versions of Glass with the prescription frames. The package list clearly mentioned that these were non working versions.
However...The good news. One of my units is working. I have a completely functioning Glass for $50. I wanted to be upfront with Google and let them know but they said it wouldn't work forever but it's been over a month and still working. It is version XE13 of the firmware and isn't updating to anything beyond that at this point. Everything else is okay...

You could try to manually flash a newer update. If I were you, I wouldn't tell Google .
Can you show some pictures from the four different Glasses with the usb ports? Google 'destroy' the usb ports, and send them out to the people who use the trial program.
the XE13 is a software update that never got released for the 'official' explorers.
Well they didn't destroy the USB enough on one. With the right combination of chargers and cable I can charge it. I don't think I am able to get a computer to recognize it so I have to play with that to get it to work to before I can flash it.
I wonder if the fact that it is XE13 is why it won't automatically update.

well you could sign up for the home trial program. then you will have 4 pairs of google glass (semi working) Then you let google charge you the $50 hold and sell the 4 pair on ebay then you will have more than enough for google glass or some spare cash.
