[Q] Mission Impossible !? Remove password - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello XDA Members,
I've used my HD2 for a few years until my USB port failed to work (no data, no power) took it to a phone shop but they couldn't fix it either
so i decided to buy another phone and forgot about the HD2.
Then last Christmas my grandpa past away and I remembered I still had some photo's of him on my HD2 so I started looking for it and found it after 2 days of searching
Borrowed a battery turned it on and then it asked for a password i cant remember -.-'
I spend a while looking for a solution to retrieve my photos (they aren't on the SD) on the interwebz without any luck,
- Tried removing the password
- Somehow this build doesn't come up with an alternative after too many tries.
- ADB not an option (no working USB)
- Tried installing app trough playstore (doesn't work since mine still has the "Market" app)
- Tried the calling the phone clicking home trick (asked for password)- Tried creating a nandroid (Does this also backup pictures?)
But i cant boot Recovery, clicking reboot>recovery result in a normal reboot (any other way ?)
Is it possible to do a dual boot (Native SD) and get my pictures through the "not locked" android ?
Current state of my HD2:
SPL-2.08.HSPL
magldr 1.11 (cant update to 1.13)(even possible without USB ?)( won't an update result in a full data wipe ?)
CM7 MDJ's (don't know which version)
Locked with a password

I can't seem to remember the HD2 saving pictures in-phone (NAND) w/o any SD card coz camera won't run w/o it.

I remember that the pictures were still available on the phone whenever i removed the as card, thats the reason i think they still are..

I agree with mengfei, the (at least) the HD2 doesn't save pictures on the phone, but rather on the sdcard.
Have you tried checking the sdcard on your computer? Look for DCIM folder, if you can't find it or it's empty just search the sdcard for image files.

Checked SD
I've checked the SD card but there aren't any pictures/videos there.
Does this means there isn't any way to get in my phone just to be sure ?

[Q] stuck on NRG boot screen and cycling

stock tmous hd2
flashed .12 radio rom
formatted sd card
installed energy 21683 sense 2.5 cookie (not the 2.0 version)
ran fine.
copied mdeejay v2.3 evosense revolution as follows to root on SD card
- android\(lots of files
- data_512\img
- data_1024\img
inserted sd card, powered up, file commander, ran clrcad.exe, then haret.exe
got to htc boot screen. took what felt like longer than it should. pulled the battery (doh!)
reinserted battery and phone was unresponsive.
tried to do hard reset, nothing
plug in usb cable and now phone boots to NRG boot screen shows R,G,D text at bottom, shuts down and then restarts the cycle. It never moves past boot screen and keeps cycling.
W/ usb cable plugged in I was able to do hard reset. didn't help.
W/ usb cable plugged in I was able to get to boot loader screen, ran NRG installer.exe and reinstalled NRG. (installer seemed to think everything went fine) still didn't help.
So my phone is now stuck, won't power on w/o usb cable and when I plug in usb cable, it cycles between boot screen and off.

Have you tried taking out your SD-card, then doing a hard reset?
Have you tried backing up the things you created (don't worry about things that other programs like Android created) on your SD-card, then reformatting it? Then restoring the stuff you backed up, and re-doing the Android install?
thanks for response.
hard reset w/ sd card in and out. no difference.
formatted sd card.
can reinstall android files on it but seems pointless since i can't get to winmo to run them. can't get past winmo boot screen.
thinking i should try going to bootloader screen then reflash stock tmous rom? if that works can always come back the other way? thoughts?

You could run a Task29 -- a utility that clears your ROM and flashes a "blank" ROM. This is one of the remedies for unusual behavior. After Task29, reflash your custom ROM.
Otherwise, yes, you could try reflashing a stock ROM. If that still fails, then I would call this a brick/"hardware issue".
Good luck!
yep. it's bricked. unless anyone else has better idea.
task29 back to NRG didn't work
flash to stock rom downloaded from Tmo website didn't work either. (now it dies at the tmo pink stick together screen just after showing the R,G,B text. and begins the cycle.)
this is so sad. I need to figure out what i did otherwise not likely to pick up another hd2. figured it was cheaper way to get decent hardware (save 100$ or more right now on craigslist over galaxyS.) and have option to play w/ winphone7.
does android normally take a long time to boot on first try? if i wasn't after the apps and google integration, i might have been happy w/ nrg rom. it looked sharp and seemed to run quick for the little time i played w/ it.
sucks i gave my wife my galaxy s (w/o a dataplan on her line) so she could have nice phone for texting/pics/vid/facebook etc while at home through wifi. now i've got to renig on that gift or get her to trust me w/ another phone!!!
just sucks all the way around. darnit!

Here's another idea (this actually happened to someone before):
Look at the battery contacts (the pins) shooting out of the phone when the battery is not inserted. Are they bent in any way? If they are, bend them gently back into place so that they are completely straight. The pins are delicate, and since you took off your battery, there's a possibility you accidentally bent them. This would lead to random shut-downs/resets.
It might be crazy enough to be the problem you have...
But you know, you could get the HD2 replaced for free, as long as you are under T-Mo's 1-yr warranty -- claim a hardware defect that couldn't be solved by the upgrade ROM. At least it's free!
Hallellujah!!! Stupid pins on the battery!!!!! THIS SHOULD BE a footnote for the newbies in the flashing sticky!
Thanks for the awesome advice!!!! I'm so glad that was the problem.

hi MATE,
The main problem is in Android folder
i'd suggest you to get the Build that asks you to copy n paste all files of Android folder to ur SD Root, that way u'll have all files on ur sd card.
2nd now wen ever you want to boot ur android of WWE all you got to do is DELETE ANDROID folder thats located on ur SD card, I had same issue as you because i test roms and i love messing with them.
3rd: You dont need to hard reset or soft reset if you needed to reboot ur Android (once its running) all you need is hold Power off button u'll get the reboot option as u select the reboot it will show you few rebot options there you gotta choose HOT Reboot that will restart the ANDROID only and that way you u can save ur self from going thur long painful process and yet stay in android os.
PS: i am currently testing the build that asks where i have all file inside ANDROID files and image @ my SD Root, i have same issue with this one but lets see if we could figure out the real culprit.
Hope this help, Feel free to share your experiences

The OP's problem was that he took out his battery while Android was loading, and when he put back the battery, his phone could not boot into WM.
I guess my last thought was correct -- the battery pins were accidentally bent while the OP took out the battery.

[Q] Cotulla's stock build on HD2 PROBLEM !

Ok so I bought a phone from ebay and it had the NAND Android by Cotulla built. It came with a google account and I was trying to delete it by using this method from another forum:
"Basically this was done on a rooted phone. We used the program called Root Explorer and navigated to /system/framework. Make sure that is mounted r/w and not r/o (read write vs read only). Rename framework-res.apk > framework-res.apk.bak. You might get an error after this (force close). Just go ahead and force close it. Immediately rename it back to framework-res.apk. Reboot and you're done. Enter your new main Google account. "
I rooted this phone with z4root and it worked. And thats how i got access to the files and was able to rename the file. (the reason I rooted the phone because apperantly the catulla build doesnt require root access, so you have to do it on your own)
I got to the part were I got an error and I force closed it and it kicked me out of root explorer. And I couldnt get back in to rename it back to framework-res.apk. So I rebooted my phone and it only gets as far as were the HTC with the white screen is loading but never loads the Android OS.
When I start my phone I hold down the power but and the down volume and takes me to the boot menu, it looks like this:
aMAGLDR V1.11
Build: Dec 31 2010 05:30:51
by Cotulla 2010
------------------------------
boot menu:
1. Boot AD SD
2. Boot AD NAND
3.USB MassStg
4. USB Flasher
5. USB TTY
6. AD Hardreset
7. Tetris
8. Services
9. Reset
10. PowerDown
So Im guessing I still have hope and it is not a brick (i dont know what exactly it means but it doesnt sound good.)
Like we say in the Marines, Im a boot to this. I serious am new to the flashing roms to the phone and messing with the framework or anything.
What do I need to do to get my phone working on NAND Android? Do I need any software installed on my computer? I hope someone can explain it to me barny style so I can fix my phone. Thanks !!
I saw on another thread on this site that the catulla built is not the most popular. So is there a way to go from where im at (point stuck in my phone to flashing thru MGLDR/CWM or CLK/CWM ?) which I have no idea how to do that either.... and what do I need to do?
Thanks to anyone that wants to spent the time to help me.
-Josue
That was the first NAND rom released when cotulla released magldr.(the black screen with menu, , you get there by holding power down when you start the phone)
Thing is, it hasnt been updated or anything, it was just a proof release, and teh method it is flashed doesnt create the racovery partition needed by the CWM(clockworkmod, clockwork recovery, clockwork) method that most current roms use.
So, firstly, go get the NAND tootlkit , phone into bootloader, connect usb, (the word serial on phone screen changes to USB) in NAND toolkit click ;install magldr, since yours is out of date,, (wont need to do this again)
Then, pick a rom you want to flash, (many roms have two versions, magldr and cLK, get the magldr version for now, you can change if you like once you know what you're doing), somewhere in the first few posts of that roms thread will be instructions as to what system partition size you need.
When you know, put the phone into magldr menu, choose USB flashing, and then in the NAND tool click the size you want in the left, then click 'repartition'.
When its done, start the phone and hold power as the screen goes black, till you get the magldr menu, choose 8.AD recovery, this will start CWM which you can then use to 'install zip from sd card - choose zip' to flash the rom. (Assuming your rom was already on your sd card)
SD cards - most roms extend the internal storage memory by using an EXT partition on the sd card, so its worth setting one up before you start. In CWM - advanced - repartition you can have it create an ext partition for you. This WILL format the whole card, so back up first. (Choose 0 for swap, you can always change it later)
Read everything HERE and HERE and take your time.
Ok I had Dowloaded the NAND toolkit like 2 hrs ago but I kinda have the idea how to use it b/c I had read the entire write up. I think for some reason my computer is not picking up my phone, even though it was befor I messed it up. So I cannot get pass the first step of insatlling the updated magldr. I do the step you told me to but nothing happenes to the phone. I dont see were the word serial on phone screen changes to USB....?
OK so I have my phone in the Bootmenu (Im guessing thats what everyone calls the bootloader?). I plug it in, and open the toolkit. I click install MAGLDR, I go all the way to the step were it says verifying the information on you PDA phone...please wait...
-ERROR[260]: CONNNECTION
And it tells me make sure your phone is connected to computer. And it is. I have used 3 different cables to connect the phone to the computer. Do I have to select something from the bootmenu, or something Im missing?
One of the step is to "hold volum down buttom and power button till you see screen with three colors." But I never get to the point, im just at the boot menu.
I know my phone is connecting because it does the buzzing noice like when you plug/unplug any usb. And in the bootmenu I choose USB Mass Storage mode and it brings up my sd card on my computer. Where can the connection problem be?
Thanks for helping me with my problem.

no, bootmenu is the black screen, magldr, , you want the phones actual bootloader, , , power off, press, hold, and keep holding voldown, tap and release power, keep holding voldown till coloured screen appears. thats bootloader.
amazingly I got to that part (bootlaoder). Little by little...
Next problem: Im at the bootlaoder and have "SERIAL" but it never changes to USB even though the computer is pick up the connection. And I get the same error message. Is there a reason why "Serial" dont change to "USB" eventhough it is pluged in correctly to the computer and it sounds like the computer picks it up?
Thanks for being patient with me and walking mw through the steps..
Update: I restarted my computer and it changed from "Serial" to "USB" Which is great BUT I do the steps and cant get pass the first one (STILL). The program is not picking up the phone for some reason...
Are you sure your USB cable is a power/data and not just a power cable? Not all USB cables do both.
also if u have active sync or the vista/win7 version turn off USB connections in that.
try a different USB port preferably on the back of the PC.
I have 3 usb cable, one of those is the one for my external hard drive. So I know that one should because data passes through it. I know its not the cable, and its not like I can go out and buy another one because Im in Afghanistan.
I dont not have Active Sync on my computer. I have windows 7 on my computer but I have no ports because it a laptop. I just took out another laptop out of the box, hoping I was just my computer. When I tried it and installed HD2 toolkit it also didnt work. The only way I can get the theword Serial to change is when Im in bootloader and nothing happend, I leave it pluged in, then I restart the computer. As soon as the computer start to reboot, the word changes to USB. So I figured it was going to work. So I go back to tool kit and it says the same problem: ERROR[260]: CONNECTION.
Both laptops are windows 7 running on 64bit. I dont know if it would make a difference running on a 32bit. In the bootloader this is what comes up:
PB81120 HX-B3
SPL-2.08.HSPL G8 XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x50
When I did plug it inthe first time to the new laptop, something popped up, saying something about not being able to install driver, driver not installed.

Hi,
If you are running Windows 7, you need to have WMDC (Google it) for the computer to recognise the phone. It contains the drivers required.
Then you should be able to install everything.
WOW that worked. Thats exactly what I needed (WMDC). Thanks alot. I was able to go from MAGLDR V1.11 to V1.3, using the HD2 Toolkit and installed 150mb b/c I plan to flash the Pongster's CM7 rom. Someone is helping in PM. I still have no idea how to flash that rom. But could not have gotten this far with out yalls help. Thanks, yall are some really smart people. Im still learning how to do this flashing and stuff.
UPDATE: I just installed Pongster's CM7 rom. It seems amazing!! Thanks for everyone help.
Question: My phone was unlocked prior to this happening. But no i inserted my sim card and it has no signal. Does the phone lock up again after doing this process? I would much of a problem if I was state side b/c I use T-Mobile but Im in Afghanistan and use a local sim and can make calls. Is there a way to unlock it, I paid someone last time to unlock my last HD2 but I dont want to do it again.
Thanks
-Josue
no, once unlocked they stay unlocked, so must be a different issue.
I feel stupid but ill just say it. I put in the similar card in wrong that's why it wasn't. Reading it. I have signal now. Everything seems to work now. But I'm going to update the radio. But I have no idea what's radio is or what its used for...can anyone answer the question for me?

Hi,
Generally the best radio for Android is:
Radio Leo 2.15.50.14.
HERE
You can check which radio version you have in:
Settings>About Phone>Software Information>Baseband Version.

[Q] (HTCHD2) Android won't startup anymore.

Hello,
My htc hd2 won't start anymore.
When I press the on button it first goes to the Green HTC HD2 letter screen, then the NAND bootingscreen with this text:
aMAGLDR V1.11
by cotulla 2010
booting android from NAND
ANDROID LOAD at **********
From nand
blablabla
etc etc
LOAD DONE!
12345
GO GO GO
And at the end an Android logo with HTC HD2 underneath it.
and then it's starts all over again.
How can I fix this? or restore everything back to the basics of android?
I dont know anymore specs from the Nand build
only it has the CyanogenMod on it and it's Gingerbread.
Plz can anyone help me, I'm gonna fly tomorrow to the States for holydays so I very appreciate it if anyone can help me before I'm gone.
(I'm sorry for my bad english!)

constantly rebooting a few seconds into the sequence is sometimes down to a bent battery pin. check them carefully. Failing that id suspect a fresh flash is in order.
I have a bent battery pin indeed. but i have it since the third day i bought this phone (1,5 years ago).
How do i make a fresh flash ? :$
Before fresh flash .. what has made your Android fall into a bootloop? have you flashed anything via cwm recently? that could be it.
nope did nothing. only thing i did was putting my sd card in my comp, and after that first some apps didn't work correctly, but that happens me all the time. so i reboot and so it all started ...
Can u guys give me a working link to android on the hd2..i only want to boot from sd
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
Ok,
You didn't turn off your device, you removed the sd card immediately (or unmounted it from settings), right?
You have data2sd enabled on your build, or apps2sd?
Try to remove sd-card and then boot...
If above ddn't work, try to reflash your build through cwm (without wiping data, which will only restore your system to original state) ..
Report back ...

@Marvlesz; yes i unmounted it from settings, and im using apps2sd
without sdcard he still wont start normally...
could you explain how i do the reflash?
with the volume button down and then start it up it also stays on the colored screen...
I'm sorry but I'm very newbie @ this stuff.
It depends on how you flashed this ROM in the beginning .. ( I assume you did it through cwm)
So get to the website of this rom and download it again (or pass if you have it on your pc)
bootup your phone while holing nothing but the power button, phone will remain on aMAGLDR and won't boot into Android.
Go to option 8. AD Recovery (using volume rockers) and press Green button (dial) ..
A black screen with orange text will appear, remove your sd and put it into your pc, copy your ROM's Zip file and return sd to phone.
Go to "install zip from sd" .. choose second option, and choose the rom.. then hit yes. After it's done, hit on reboot.
Report back ..
Hi. im sorry i didnt listened to you :O
I saw the menu and did the hard reset, everything is gone, but i dont mind, im glad he is working fine again
Thanks for your help!
lol, Im sorry to hear that you lost your information ... I recommend doing NANDROID backups from time to time (from orange menu) as well as apps backups with (titanuim backups) .. even if you messed up with the system files, you still can get it back ..
Anyway Im glad that you phone has come back to life..

[Q] microSD damage

I have big problem. Yesterday I bought the 32 gb sandisc microsd card(class 4) and I installed windows phone 7(blackSideSeven v1.13.7401), everything was fine, except marketplace(doesn't work). Today I have decided to install diffrent ROM, I choosed Back to the Future [XBmod-Yuki] [7720 ready]. Rom was installed properly. I added my windows live and gmail accounts, changed data and time, I restarted phone. After that phone didn't work. System was loading, it stopped on "enter pin code" screen. It didn't respond to touch ;/ When i removed sd card touch screen was working, but i got alert "storage card not working" and I coudn't do anything(only emergency call). I installed clean wp7 DFT rom, but I had that same problem. I try to plug scdard to the computer, but it's not detectable ;/ None of the partition, nothing! Is card broken?
- To check the hardware side, take "h2testw". The card should be empty, so the tool could test the complete size.
The background is, that some large cards (16gb, 32gb,...) are fakes. simply wrong labeled.
- Have you take the right order. look: "-Flash the rom with DWI & Set a correct time & date".

It works until the reset after zune installed wp7 software update. I had screen when I have to enter a pin, but i couldn't do that. The touch screen didn't work. Even tried WP7 Update Cab Sender to upload DEV_STORAGELOCK_REMOVE.CAB, but it alse didn't work. System couldn't load. When I unplug the usb cable, phone didn't turn on.
My microsd works, but i have to format it(in nokia) evety time when i want to install rom.
Again, i try to install android, but i have that same problem. HD2 doesn't work without usb connection, I can't turn it on ;/ What i should do..?

Turn phone off. Hold down the volume down key and power at same time until you see a tri colored screen. Connect your usb cable and you will see "usb" in the white section at bottom of your phone screen. Run task29 (search forum) this will erase nand. From there you boot back into the bootloader (tri colored Screen) and you can install WM6.5 or just flash magldr and go with a android rom. Or try WP7 again if you really want to.

[Q] HTC HD2 bricked, no tri color bootscreen

Hey guys.
I have a bricked HTC HD2 here. I installed Android 2.2 on it, and it ran fine for a long time. But a few days ago, it got stuck in a bootloop. It gets stuck on the Android logo and doesn't get past that point at all.
What I've tried (in chronological order):
1. AD Hardreset from aMAGLDR: erased all data, but didn't fix the problem. Kept going in bootloop.
2. AD Recovery: Failed. Doesn't get past the "GO GO GO!!"
3. Repair aMAGLDR using HD2 NAND toolkit: tried repairing (150MB partition size) and installing Clockwork Mod (150MB). Same exact results when trying to get into AD recover. Only diffrence is that I now don't have a ROM on my NAND anymore.
4. Install a diffrent rom: Tried a few of them, but they all keep getting stuck on their bootlogo (HTC, Android, ...).
5. Restore STOCK ROM WM6.5: I'd love to, but I can't get into the three-colors-bootscreen. It goes straight to aMAGLDR, even when I boot holding the right buttons (volume down + power [both short click and long hold]). I had set up the ROM files correctly on the SD card.
6. Install the STOCK ROM using the HD2 NAND TOOL: after going to USB Flash mode and installing the default microsoft drivers (it didn't want to accept the Google Android drivers or HTC drivers I downloaded earlier), the flash utility keeps getting stuck on ERROR 264: CONNECTION. The only thing I can do in the HD2 NAND UTILITY is repair aMAGLDR. Other options result in the same error. Task29 can't find the phone either.
Bottom line, I cannot (ABSOLUTELY not) get into the tri color boot screen. It sends me straight to magldr. Also, my volume buttons are working just fine.
I really don't know what to do anymore. I hope someone can help me, any help would be greatly appreciated
Did you try this?
Download an original win 6.5 ROM for your HTC device from HTC webside.
- Take "RUU_signed.nbh" from an original ROM and copy it to your SD card.
- Rename to "leoimg.nbh"
- Reset your device while pressing the volume down button

Did you even read the OP's post, clearly I think not. The OP says several times that they can not get the device to the multicolor WINCE bootloader.Without being ably to boot into the bootloader they can notflash via SD card.
At the OP you can stop trying to flash via USB flasher in MAGLDR, it is only for flashing Android RIMs, WP7 ROMs, and Custom Android recoveries. If you are positive your volume down button works then you probably have some bad NAND blocks, but that is just a guess, with out access to the bootloader you are pretty much only left with flashing Android or WP7 via USB flasher in MAGLDR.
That's problematic... The HD2 NAND utility can't flash any ROMs, since the utility can't find the device (error 264).
I've tried 8 diffrent ROMS (from http://android.hd2roms.com/) by putting them on the SD card and use the "AD SD boot" function, but none of them can get past their bootlogo... All ROMs keep hanging on HTC / Android logos. Some of them used to work in the past, I recall...
Here, try these fixes and read the WHOLE POST :

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, none of the solutions worked. The battery pins were indeed bent, but after putting them back in place, the problem persisted.
I left my phone powered down all night and tried booting it in bootloader this morning. It didn't work. So that rules out solution 3 awell.
I've even put it in the freezer for half an hour (solution 5), but nothing changed.. Browsed through the last thread aswell, but there was no stuff I haven't tried yet. I can't even start tetris, since it keeps hanging on a blank screen aswell
The guy in solution #4 was facing the same issue (I think).
Especially the second part of the solution, where he talks to the OP. Read it carefully, and check out the post and thread he referred to.
Holy freakin..
After reading various threads through links in the one you suggested, I stumpled upon something called American Android. I was able to install it through the USB Flasher. Guess what, it booted PERFECTLY!!
My phone works again, thank you VERY much!!

horayyy for the HD2 & for the guys that gave the solutions!
need information in case of not getting into the bootloader
how can I use the american android + USB flasher method to work for my hd2 if
I am not able to boot it,
can't soft/hard reset it,
can't get into the bootloader (using volume down + end key pressed).
I used android installed on SD card.
It is totally unresponsive for now. volumn keys worked perfectly when it is was working lastly !
Please tell what can bo done to it to get it working or where does the problem lies.
check your battery pins and also battery if it is charged.
and,
Download an original win 6.5 ROM for your HTC device from HTC webside.
- Take "RUU_signed.nbh" from an original ROM and copy it to your SD card(formatted FAT32.)
- Rename to "leoimg.nbh"
- Reset your device while pressing the volume or without press

Click to collapse
and then you can try an android rom again..
Another solution?
I had the exact same problem. And I am under the impression that there is no solution for every case. But for me it worked to press the volume down button very softly. I tended to push the button as hard as I could, however when I only pressed the volume down button slightly it went straight to the triboot color.
Hopefully this works for some of you.
Can someone help?
Hi,I want to refresh post, becouse i have exact same problem - can't get to serial bootloader, and in MAGLDR i can use only the USB FLASHER option. If someone could tell me how to flash any new rom only through FLASHER ? Last thing i can say: my problem started from installing this app from google Play play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.livelogcat.lite (sry for that, but I can't post URL yet) it might messed up my kernel and i have no idea what to do.
