As the title states I am having trouble getting my playlists to show up properly. I've tried many times to get them to work properly but each time you there are a bunch of songs left out of playlists. They are on the device just not in the given playlists. I've tried putting m3u's on internal as well as external. I have noticed that when I put the playlists in the given folder subsequent copies of them with a .pla format are created. Not sure what that is all about. Thanks for your time.

Hi I have a rooted n7 stock 4.1.2, I can't seem to delete a ringtone "hangout_dingtone.m4a" I am using ES File Exploer with SU permissions. Every time I delete it and reboot my n7 the files come back. The file is one file but when done a search shows up in two places, if I rename it in one place it renames in the other place as well. The files are located in /data/media/notification/hangout_dingtone.m4a and /storage/sdcard0/notification/ hangout_dingtone.m4a is there any way I can delete it from both locations? The reason why I want this done is because they show up multiple times in the default sounds menu.

That's because they are exactly the same location!
Just delete it from sdcard.

Youd think it would go away, but after a reboot there it is back in the folder. /sdcard/notification
any other way you can think of?

/system/media/audio/ringtones

Ok, I deleted both hangout ring/ding tone files from notifications. Rebooted the phone and ding is back again.
Based on the name, it belongs to Google+, so I would say the app reinstalls the file if it is deleted.
Either leave the file alone or try freezing/uninstalling Google+.

How would you suggest I freeze google plus app?

I have a similar problem as you do however my music app is not showing system files or ringtone files but rather game ogg files. I installed puzzle quest 2 and now all of its ogg audio files are showing up in the music app. They are located in this folder on the internal memory storage at Android/obb/com.NamcoNetworks.PuzzleQuest2Android/files/sounds/music and I was looking for a way to exclude the Android/obb folder all together from being scanned but I didn't see this as an option. I do play this game so I don't want to delete these files to clear them from the music player. I would be grateful if anyone can provide insight. This S4 is my first Android phone coming over from an iPhone so I am anxious to learn!

Seems like a nomedia file may be missing in those system folders, or whatever samsung uses to keep the video player or gallery from seeing system sounds/video.
Thank you Joeybear that did the trick for me! After a quick search on exclusionary files I found that adding an empty .nomedia file to each folder via ES File explorer cleared all unwanted files from the music player.:thumbup:

If this has already been addressed I apologize. The stock music app won't recognize all my mp3s.I installed PowerAmp and it found them no problem. I really like the Samsung app but need a way to force it to find all my music. Help.

Not sure but I know with mine I had to restart my phone to get it to recognize new music I downloaded with bit torrent on my phone
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
Restarting the phone would do the job..

Yeah, tried restarting, tried clearing media storage, even tried those media scan apps. Nothing works. Oh well, just keep using PowerAmp.

I've wiped cache partition. nothing seems to work. it was usable yesterday. rooting has gotten me so many issues. my gallery thumbnails are over 9 gb gallery issues... please help. thanks

Ok, you're running stock firmware. Are you storing pictures on the external sdcard? I'm thinking you have a corrupted file. Are the pics backed up any where? Corrupted file would explain the large thumb nail size.

really? well uh my laptop died too.... (I'm in a MAJOR technological crisis... and to top it off, I just underwent a surgery on my foot which makes living with these issues 100X more frustrating) I'll backup all pics onto my new computer and delete my SD card and restore pics.... but the thing is, one time I'd unmounted and completely removed the SD card and it still showed a 9 gb thumbnail. how can the file get corrupted? I've never done anything to it. but the major issue I'm having right now is the gallery app crashing on me... i am able to view pics and videos through other app galleries like quick pic... but I really want to use stock gallery cause it has weather tags as well... i just like the extra details.... -_- haha. Thx and look forward to your reply.

Before you do all that, have u tried to clear gallery cashe in app manager under settings. If not it's worth a try...
thanks for trying to help, I mentioned that I already did that in the first post . I'm actually thinking of unrooting later. but idk... I mean iPhone was so much easier to use and even I thought it was an overrated phone. perhaps I should just use galaxy s4 uprooted so everything will just be bearable to use...

Take your sdcard out and see if out still crashes. What size and brand of card do you have. 64 gb SanDisk have caused some problems.

A lot of people have been having problems with them. I haven't paid that much attention to what the fix is other than Samsung cards seem to work. Google "64 gb SanDisk xda" and you should find threads that discuss the problem. Sorry I can't help more but I think that's your problem.

I'm not sure I understand the question. But if you restored system apps with tibu, yes it could cause problems. You should rarely if ever restore system apps. If you do a batch restore with tibu only restore missing apps and not any system data and apps.

I'm encountering the same issues. If I clear Gallery data and restart the phone, sometimes the Gallery will stop crashing. But it will always crash again soon....

You can also use the one i'm using from Playstore Called: Hide pictures - KeepSafe Vault
But isn't it stored in the phone memory? All my videos take up so much space...

Just put an empty file named .nomedia in a folder. No images in that folder will show up in gallery.
