I'm familiar with s2u2 but its s2a function doesn't always come up, meaning i cant answer the incoming call.
blackstone dialer doesn't work properly, something about me having an x1a.
What i'd love is to have the s2a feature from this w/o the dialer
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=53599
is this doable or are they inseparable? Or is there a solution out there i dont know about?
Thx.
ps. i also tried Inesoft phone 4 but it replaces the dialer and the contacts screen.

You can disable the Inesoft dialer, contact screen, call history etc and just use the caller ID function. That's what I do.

when i had the trial i couldnt find where to disable those function. how do i do that?
Also is there a free solution? Even w/ a dialer if it has similar features to the standard xperia dialer.
I'm surprised to say there is a lot to like about TouchWiz, but there is one area that I hate.
The separation of the dialer and contacts...
When you go into contacts there is no way to get to the dialer, or even see your favorites. They have done a pretty good job at separating the two, dialer and contact.
IMO in the dialer they need to dump the "voicemail" "groups" and "updates" tabs and just go back to plain android with tabs for "phone" "call log" "contacts" and "favorites" that displayed whether in contacts or dialer, essentially it was one app.
"groups" could be accessed with the menu button and "updates" could be a standalone app or widget.
/end rant
I do really like that with the dialer you can now search contact with the number pad. I also really like the addition of the alphabet on the side of contacts, much better then dragging the cursor.
Umm... There's a contacts button on the bottom right of the dialer...

lmao!
To [OP] just remove the contact icon from your home screen/dock.

And that would be great if I wanted to get from dialer to contacts... that was not what I asked, reading comprehension fail.
how do you get from contacts to dialer?

Put your finger on the contact you would like to call and swipe to the right.
Or enter the contacts from the dialer and click back if you need to go back to the dialer.

More like Android comprehension fail! To go from contacts to dialer, touch the icon of the person you want to call and then press the dialer icon...
I have never needed to go to the dialer from the contacts section unless I am calling a contact that I looked up (which has a couple of ways to accomplish). Out of curiosity... Under what circumstances would you need to go to the Contacts and then get to the dialer without calling one of the contacts you just looked up?

Yea, this is what I have been doing but to have uniformed tabs in both contacts and dialer could make it so much easier...

Sorry but that dials a contact. It does not take me back to the dialer.

I agree if you go to look someone up then you are going to call them, hence the need to access to the dialer is moot. Its just coming from plain android where both the contacts and dialer have the same tabs (dialer, contact, call log and favorites) it was easy to do any and all calling action from one app. This also meant that you only need to have one icon in your dock. I'm used to just having contacts in my dock with no dialer. Now I actually have to think about it, I often have issues when thinking
Oh another reason I don't like this setup... So you go into your contacts to dial a contact who is a favorite... Well for this contact you actually have to open the dialer to access that list, unless you want to spend the time scrolling through all contact to find this "favorite"... Yet again I have to apply brain...
It would be more complete and simpler to have dialer, contact, call log and favorites tabs for both contacts and dialer.

That makes sense. I am all for minimizing the number of icons but I have always had both so I didn't notice the difference.

I understand you want them to be the same, but is this not solved by not going into contacts in the first place? You want a favorite, open dialer. You want to dial, open dialer. You want to call someone so you open dialer, if you don't know their number and they aren't a favorite press the little icon for contacts in the dialer. Just don't click the contacts icon to begin with at all and I don't see the issue.

This is probably why the dialer is permanently in the dock and the others can be changed...

well yes but... plain android did it so well.
I'm going to the corner now to have a pity party all alone.
Hi guys, I've just moved over from iphone so still finding my feet with android.
For the most part android is far superior but the contact side of things is still bugging me. This is what I want to be able to do:
1. Have my call log as calls only, not texts. I know you can change this to view calls received, dialled etc, but it soons defaults back and shows everything. I just want my log to have dialled and received and nothing else? I'm sure i've read somewhere on the net that this was possible on the SGS through a hack??
2. I want to set up a favourites list of say best mate, gf, work etc and just be able to press their name and it dials there number, not opens another window that shows history, text option, dial option video call option, i.e. just direct dial. I also would like this to be the first screen that opens when I press my phone icon on the dock??
I've set my gf up on my desktop as a direct dial shortcut, but I don't want to be doing that for everyone. I've got a load of contacts but maybe only dial 10 at most on a regular basis.
are there any hacks or thrid party dialers that do this??
Cheers

I can help you with #2. Just swipe right on your favorite and you call that favorite immediately. Swipe left to immediately send a message.

hmmm, can't say i can see a way around No.1, other than using a new dialer/contacts app such as Go Contacts or Dialer One etc..
must say, i actually quite like the comprehensive log, coming from Sense and Stock roms with calls only, i like having it all in one place...
Dialer One would be my choice, but only as i used it on CM7 on my Hero for its smart dial feature... can't comment on Go Contacts
hope this helps
Dickie
I use loads off texts a day so within 10 mins of dialling someone their details are long gone
I'll check out Go Contacts and Dialer One though, thanks for the recommendations
This is a Samsung thing, regular android does not put texts with the call log. I don't think I'd like them to be combined like that.
it is the right thing to do

I like them combined. There again, there could be an option to control it.
Go Contacts is just the ticket
Thanks guys, much better now
Sorry for this rant but I am finding it more difficult to live with these Issues everyday..
1. The call history list all calls (dialed, missed, received) and Messages as well! this is annoying, I dont want to see my message history in my call log, and there is no way to hide it except to view by just one call category, Dialed, missed or received.
2. Dialing a contact by name from the phone key pad, I can only search by the First name and not by second name, On my htc Desire/HD I could very well search by any of the names listed for a contact but unable to do so on this phone, this is really annoying as well.
3. Pull down notification bar would not work in the middle of a call unless I go to the home screen.. not cool.
If anyone knows a work around or other roms that addresses these issue please feel free to recommend.
Thanks in advance.

Here you have a way to remove the SMS from the log http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1167662 you need to have a rooted phone and I am not completly sure if it is for SGS2 or 1...

Try "Dialer One" from the market, it works very similar to the htc desire. And is very customable.
Skype v People Hub????
I believe this has been discussed before, but I can’t find it. I have added Skype on my WP8 AT&T Nokia Lumina 920. In so doing, it looks like, without giving me a choice, Skype integrated my Skype contacts with the contacts in my People Hub. Now my Skype contact list appears to have duplicate entries and my People Hub tile is shuffling what I believe are everyone’s Skype photos.
I don’t want this. Is there any way to make it stop?
Also, I thought that if I let Skype run in the background that it would wake up the phone if I received a Skype call. This does not seem to be the case. Does anyone know what’s up with this?
Thanks!

I would like to know that answer too. I also let Skype use lock screen quick status, but that doesn't appear to do anything.

Not sure if this is what you're after, but to stop the issue with the People app have you tried going to:
People - 3 Dot Menu (bottom right of screen) - Settings - Filter My Contacts and then unselect Skype from the list of contacts to display?

Hmmmm………. Good suggestion. We are moving in the correct direction. Progress made. This action definitely solved the issue of unwanted photos appearing on my People Hub live tile. All of the contacts from my People Hub are still integrated into my Skype contacts. On a hunch, removed and reinstalled Skype with the new People Hub setting. No Help.
Thank you for the help!

No worries, glad I could help a bit. As for the Skype problem, I done a quick search and this Microsoft Support page seems to have something about filtering contacts in Skype:
https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12176/how-do-i-manage-my-contacts-in-skype-for-windows-phone-8#3
Hope that helps.
You can change the Link-Status of each contact by opening it and pressing the "chain-button" on the App Bar (bottom). There you can unlink them. If it's mainly the pictures that you want to change you can press edit, then on the picture and select the data source from which you want to use the pic (GMail/Exchange/Skype/Facebook).
If you use the contact with the picture you want (not skype) as the contact to click the link button to link it to skype you "should" get the primary contact's (not skype) picture to show up, while still having skype be linked.
Also, when you have contacts linked, you can edit the contact and choose the picture you want to show up (ie, FB picture or skype picture)
