call distortion - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I put my S4 on speaker pone apparently its really distorted for the person on the receing end of the call, they feel like I'm talking to loud, the problem isn't there when I'm normally speaking through the ear piece but persists with the speaker phone for some reason. Is there anyway to fix this.

canned air. there might be lint stuck in the microphone or the speakerphone.
if not it's probably broken and you need to return it.

problems with earpiece speaker

When listening to calls through the earpiece speaker the sound often sounds like it's blasting. Does anybody else have problems with the quality of the earpiece speaker? If it sounds good to a majority or you, then I will send it back to have it replaced, any responses would be appreciated.
CRACKLE
I have had 2 and they both crackle...I have been told that the earpiece speaker quality in these types of phones is not the best!!! So change for a another or put up with it. Mind you only need to keep the volume at minimum and you hear all calls as clearly as you should.
maybe its just o2
mines crap to
sending it back for replacement.
its supposed to be v good on this phone , why would they make it crap and everything else so good?
My 9100 has the same problem. I'm on my second 9100...the first one just died after a week for no reason. Now I'm on my second one and the earpiece speaker sounds like crap on full volume. (It wasn't the case on the first handset.) I work in a loud environment and I need a loud phone. (The spekerphone is absolutely useless too.)
I'm getting really annoyed with this device!!! For $700 I would at the very least expect it to work!!
Also, does anyone else going nuts over the lag when dialing from the touch screen? When you touch a number, it takes ages to show up on the screen...if at all. It was fine on my JAM.

Earpiece problem

I have a bit of curios problem with my TD2. During a phone call i get a sound distortion / vibration from the earpiece. It makes no difference if i change the volume level. Playing music or using the speaker phone does not cause the problem. So i'm not sure if it's a software or hardware problem? Has anyone else found this problem? or have any clues for me.
Thanks in advance
Smog
It isn't related to the "vibrate on connect" feature is it?
No i have that disabled. It sounds like when a music speaker has a damaged cone and vibrates / distorts or there is too much bass?
The distortion in my earpice goes away at 80% volume. Is very annoying. It distortes on bass (low frequency) very much on 100% volume. The D2 speaker is very crappy. I wonder if there is a solution to this (software bass reduction of the incoming calls).
I agree the earpiece is utterly crap, the distortion goes at 50% on my TD2! Have spent sometime looking if there is anysoftware solution but to no avail!! I'm debating weather to return it under waranty as a faulty phone and see where i get.
any solves on this issue?
Mine too have the same problem, but i was told by others owners that this situation is not normal.
They say it´s a faulty device.
Result!! My touch screen went faulty so had to send the phone back in for warranty repair. I mentioned that the ear piece may also be faulty and requested them to take a look. Phone returned with new screen, new housing & i must assume a new ear piece. All distortion has disappeared even at 100% volume!!!
Maybe it's not the thread to mention it in (apologies to all those with problems) but when it works properly the TD2 has the best sounding earpiece of any phone I've had, including two other HTC ones. It actually has bass!
The distortion described sounds like the moving part is partially rubbing against the fixed part. In a proper speaker this can be caused by dirt or dust trapped between magnet and coil, or distortion of the coil through overload or temperature changes. I would send the phone for service 'cos it sadly won't get better of its own accord.

DHD Crackly speaker

Ok so recently when I talk to people over my phone they sound very crackly. It doesn't happen over loud speaker and it's everybody who rings me I struggle to understand them.
If I turn the volume right up it sounds very distorted.
Someone suggested water damage but I've never even had the phone out in the rain so i cant see that being the problem.

Speaker issue

Alright so anytime I call someone the callback quality is horrid! I do install roms on my phone but I didn't think that would of caused this terrible phone call back. The speaker phone works fine. When I talk to people on the phone, they sound like they're talking in a tunnel very quietly. If I turn the volume up, it sounds high pitched and hard to understand what they're saying. Is there any way to fix this?
that happen to me theres metal flakes in the speaker took to sprint replaced speaker for 35 dollars

Noise Canceling Mic Causing Bad Call Audio?

I did some testing with phone call audio after I read somewhere that the back noise canceling mic might be causing the problem.
I called myself from a land line, muted the mic on that phone, and answered with my N6P. I listened on the land line and talked on the N6P. My voice sounded real muffled. I then covered the back mic up with my finger and the voice quality went up 10X. I did this multiple times.
To make sure the back mic was not damaged I took a video of myself talking to test the mic quality. Upon playback, the sound was great. This leads me to believe that my mic hardware is not at fault here.
Do others have this issue? It seems like a software issue relating to phone calls only. Thanks for any info/experience!
I have issues when doing speakerphone and video calls with Hangout. I have to talk into the top speaker grill for the other side to hear me. If I move the phone away just 1 feet, my voice gets canceled out and the other side can't hear me.

I wonder if you cover they back mic if that will improve your speaker phone experience. This kind of confirms to me that it is software. I wish we could turn the noise canceling software off just for calls. I mean, I want it but not if it will cause problems for phone calls.
I guess for now I will just cover the back mic with my finger during calls. Is there a website where we can report bugs for the N6P specifically?
No news on this? Renders speaker calls on Hangouts, Viber etc useless.
