I have been really wanting to try out a smart watch lately, they just seem so useful and fun. However there seems to be a big lack of support for Windows Phone 8. Has anyone been able to find one that works with our WP8? Below are some of the watches that I have checked out so far. Let me know if any have worked for you, or if you know of any others that claim to work with WP8.
Pebble
CooKoo
I'm Watch
MetaWatch
Here are a couple others I have looked at...
Citizen Proximity
Sony Smartwatch
I also know that there have been claims that Microsoft is looking into making a watch device. But hoping to get my hand on something a little sooner, cause that will be months and months from now.
I would be interested in this info too....
Added couple other watches. Anybody else looked into this?
They won't work.
Lacking the required Bluetooth profiles. We had an argument on here a long time ago about it.

But if the watch supports Bluetooth 3.X then it should still work with windows phone.

That's only one part of the problem, the other part is missing the required SPP and MAP profiles.

That's good to know, I'm going to see what I can get functioning with my Ativ PC
SPP can be done by Devs themselves (the OS has no Support for it built in). But that isn't the big Problem. Third Party Apps can't access a lot of the Information that Smartwatches want to Display. They can't access e-mails or texts. They can't access phone calls.
So what Data exactlly would they transmit to the watch? Aside from that I'm currently hard pressed to see the Advantages of those watches, given that they can only work as a "slave" to a Smartphone with almost no functionality that they could provide on their own.
Also having troubles with Jabra Stone2 and Nokia Lumia 920 ... PBAP 1.1 supported by both devices but Stone2 doesn't say contact name for incoming calls ... Looks like Smart Watches will have similar issues when used with a WP8 ...

Looking for the same thing, I found your post in this forum. I found this quickstarter project, search for Agent, the world's smartest watch.
It works with Windows 8 and has wireless charging. Looks cool, but the wait is long, earliest is Dec 2013.

This is what MetaWatch mgmt said one year ago:
"The answer is "yes". As soon as Windows phone supports a Bluetooth data connection and a Bluetooth API for the app to use (which it does not yet, even in Mango), then we will support that OS."
i.e. according to the OEM it's the OS.

So Agent has got some 887 000 dollars funding, which looks promising. But I wonder, what does Agent have that none of the others, including MetaWatch who's run by the ex-Fossil team of the SonyEricsson MBW-150/200 BT watch line, or Sony or anyone else have got, to be able to get the BT API etc for WP8?

Since when is giving a gift stealing???? Do you not think that there prevails a wee bit too much paranoia as propagated by software developers???
As far as I am concerned, giving someone software with the registration key constitutes a gift and not stealing, provided the person giving it paid for it. Does that make sense?
Incidentally, philinhot did ask for a FREE remote app did he not? Then along comes good samaritan gldrush98 and suggests one that costs money!!!

well did the programmer put in the EULA that you could gift your key away? doubt it
he did ask for a freebie, then someone informed of some good payware... then philnot asked for the key...
this isnt a warez board, most of the people on this board are developers.. and i am sure the ones that develop software and sell for a price wouldnt be happy about having their software stolen... im not saying i dont do it myself, i have the knowledge on where to search to find what i need, but i dont post crap like that on this board, this isnt the place for it, its disrespectful to the dev's on this site, and its NOT what this site is intended for...
if philnhot101 would have never asked for the key in public then this conversation never would have happened...
Ur right about the Wizard's IR range - I tried Novii, it works perfectly, but the Wizard's poor IR range lets it down and renders it useless

A quick warning: warez, serial numbers etc. will be moderated out at once.
I use novii, it works fairly well. I use it for my TV, Macbook Pro, Comcast cablebox and Xbox 360.
The range varies between each one. Surprisingly, the cheapest electronic I have is my tv which is a 27" Apex, which I can change channels/volume from up to 7 feet away. My macbook is also fairly good.
The others, not so good. My cablebox is only about 5 feet away. The Xbox varies for some reason. Sometimes I hit it from about 6 feet away, sometimes I can't even turn it on from 3 feet away.
Just wondering, but does Novii come with IR profiles pre-installed? It'd be nice if I could use it for my 360 since I really don't feel like buying a $30 remote just for the heck of it.

Hey Mark, give this program another shot. While the range on the IR does suck, Novii has worked with Texas Instr to add drivers that (somehow) boost the IR range for this prog. No kidding, I was able to control TV, DVD and Tivo from across the room. Only problem is the width of the beam is horrible, so you have to point your wizard directly at the IR receiver, but could still be useful for some folks out there.
West87, yes it does include preloaded profiles for many components--My Samsung DVD player, Philips TV and Tivo all worked with the built-in profiles. 500 more can be downloaded from their website as well.

Well, to be completely honest, I was using a trial of the 4.0 pre-release version, not 4.1. That may have something to do with it as well...I'll try looking for a trial of 4.1 or 4.2 and see if its any better/worse.

i dont want to take sides but its not so much stealing its more breaking the terms of copyright. Most peices of software are licensed for 1 machine only so even if someone gives u the software and the legit key then thats break copyright law so its a type of theft. If someone had an application for remote control etc and the terms of the licence didn't specifiy the number of machines it had to run on then that would be fine. Sorry to be a pain just wanted to clear that up
Hi guys!
Ive been hearing and reading stuff about spotify for mobile phones being developed.
Some sources say they only plan to launch apps for android, iphone and symbian's. Whle others include WinMo.
Would this be a possible software that can be created? If i could get this on my TP2 it would be incredible.
Any of guys have any info other than this?
www.spotify.com
AFAIK, they were advertising for a WM developer to work for them, but since about a month ago it disappeared and I've heard nothing since.
I would love this app, but I suspect that the best you can expect is either a "wi-fi only" version (like iplayer is, ie. not available over 3G/HSDPA) or a version that it is only available to premium members (such as what is rumoured to be being given the once over by Apple, £9.99 a month, so to not compete too much with iTunes on their devices)
Yeah
That wont matter though, im allready a premium member. The whole idea is genius and 9.99 is nothing anyways.
But id still like them on my phone. could just bring my TP2 when im atfriends and plug it into the amplifier.

Hey guys, I'm about to order a Galaxy S, but there's one very pressing question I have before doing so. The phone includes the thinkfree office app, but editing/creating documents with an onscreen keyboard (even swype) is nearly impossible. I need a phone that I can quickly edit some docs with it on the train, so i was wondering, is it possible to hook up a bluetooth keyboard to this phone? I know the streak has this profile, so is it possible to port it to the galaxy S if it doesn't have it? Thanks in advance guys!
There's an open issue for this over at android google code: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1147
in the comments to this issue someone mentioned this link: http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=blueinputandroid

i'm going to test this tomorrow with a Microsoft Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 6000 and report back.
Thanks man, I'd never heard of the app before. They mention an unlimited trial of their app online, but purchasing it costs $9.99. If you're familiar with the software, what are the limitations of the trial? Also as a galaxy S user, what are your impressions of thinkfree office? Is it an actual decent editor for rich word documents on the go? Would you need the bigger screen of the streak to make it truly competent or is the 4 inch enough? Thanks mate

Interesting Android smartwatch here. It can actually be used as a standalone phone, bands are GSM/GPRS Quad Band:GSM 850/900/DCS 1800/PCS 1900 MHZ (can this be used on AT&T?).
What I'm not seeing is if it can be used as a dialer for your phone, so you can just leave it in your pocket and make and receive calls like the Gear.
What do you guys think? I'm tempted to get it just to play around with.

Doing some further reading, yes you can initiate a call to your phone with it, woot! It also has music over bluetooth and local storage. It looks like it has no speaker/mic so you have to use a headset with it, boo, but that's ok.

Feature phone software, bleh.
Although I guess for 100 bucks you can't expect it to run Android.
Edit: Hmm, just noticed no where does it say there's a speaker built in...guess you have to use a headset to use it as a phone.
Also only compatible with Android 2.3-4.0. Doesn't say it works with newer.

Strange, I was also surprised by that 4.0 rather then 4.x reference. And I think you are right about headphone 3.5mm jack as the only way to listen to the music. Would have been great if they would include a camera in there.

Dunno why but personally i find most smart watches just tend to look either dull, or just plain awful. Maybe it's because of the space they have to work with? Dunno :/
You guys realize it's a phone? It might be nice to have as a backup phone, or if I just want a tiny phone. It doesn't run apps, but I never had much use for apps on a 1.5" screen.
It's interesting, I may grab one just to play around with. It seems to have AT&T bands. I don't plan on using it like a watch though, it's too ugly like that. I'd just stick it in my pocket or clip it on.

We're fully aware. It's just between recent offerings like the Omate Truesmart and previous offerings like every chinese watch phone out there, this one seems like too little too late to really make sense right now.

Hello,
can anybody please confirm that Xiaomi really managed to break Ant+ support in Android 9 (which means they did not test all features before releasing a new update) I cannot get it to work, see screenshot of Ant tester. It used to work under Android 8.1
Does anybody have an idea how to enable Ant+ again?
Same problem!

Unfortunately no. It surprises me how little reaction I get, I reported to Xiaomi, no response yet. Seems customers are ready to accept things like that these days, I feel really sad and angry, since this seems to affect many Android 9 devices. I wish I hadn't updated from 8.1 at all
You are absolutely right!
I'm hoping for a real solution, but for now I'm using a ant+ dongle connected to the phone with otg cable.
There are a lot of thread reporting faulty ant+ support after updating to pie.
Seems to be issue with google, all devices updated to Pie has the issues.

Obviously nobody is using ANT anymore these days? I am really surprised to see how few people actually complain, for me it is essential to get back Ant+ support however
