PLease Help - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello i was going to buy the Asus padfone 2 when i saw it on the internet but after i saw the tablet resolution and the HTC One i decided to buy HTC One with a Nexus 7 but my question is the nexus 7 laggy for me i play a lot of games like Dead trigger N.O.V.A 3 and Shadowgun and Fifa 13
so i will install like 80+ games is it laggy for this kind of user???

Well there's no lag in games like Shadow gun and ravensword. It can pretty much handle every android game I throw at it and also emulates ps1 and N64 very well.
---------- Post added at 03:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:38 AM ----------
I should also note that N.O.V. A 3 runs spectacularly. I'm running smooth rom and Franco kernel which helps a lot too.

what i mean is not if it laggs in the game or not i mean after installing all this games will it lagg when am using chrome or any other thing

I would say that the Nexus 7 is not a perfect gaming device, and it is definitely not "lag-free" when you are stock. When I was stock I also figured that chrome was a bit laggy, so I recommend dolphin browser.
If you have any browser opened, it should not affect the gaming too much, but it is optimal to have none apps opened. Android have a really good multitasking system, so it should be no problem actually.

Well the n7 isn't going to have any more than 32gb. So it would be pretty impossible to install 80+ games on it, and as with any device, it will slow down substantially once your hard drive is almost full. I wouldn't suggest buying it if you need all of those games installed at once.

Opinions

I have a friend thinking of getting one of these phones and I wanted to get some opinions whether this is a good phone or a peace of junk

The games that are made for the xperia play are crap but you can run a lot of emulators on it that work really great with the hardware keys.
yes the emulators are great on the play
with a great gamepad
the games on the xperia play are just as good as on any other android phone
while there are better spec phones out there
the games for them can run just as good as on ours with chainfire3d
Lol ya except they cam play them without staring at fingers ad thumbs and only being able to see a small portion of the screen. Seriously though tell your friend if he likes game he will destroy everyone who doesnt have a play in multiplayer.

If you play games at all, get the Play. If you don't play games at all, then get whatever the hell looks cool, i dunno, iPhone cause why not, everyone and their mom has one.
I'd recommend this phone for serious gamers only.
Especially those who love old school emulators.

I agree and also disagree . This phone has a nice big screen and playing the touchscreen games off the droid market works as well as on any other phone out at the minute. The game pad is just an added extra for me. I enjoy/play with the emulators & fpse alot but even if you forget the gamepad it is still a good phone.
After rooting mine and freezing the bloat. Nothing i have thrown @ the phone has caused it any trouble apart from some fpse games, but thats the same with most phones even dual cores ones. Nothing is perfect but this phone does an above average job as a normal phone with the added bonus of amazing game play on emulators or any game that supports the game pad.

I do agree it is a good phone but they should have put a much nicer screen on it. My Iphone 2G had a nicer screen. The Play's screen is impossible to use in sunlight. It's just a bit of a shame. Other things lacking would be HD video recording and a top of the range camera. But don't get me wrong, it's still good and I love it.
ps. what have you froze mate, just rooted myself cos I was sick of the phone stuttering and general choppiness on the likes of Gameloft games. Looking for ways to improve performance.

Indeed in full on sunlight its not the best but indoors i thinks it is really a fully decent screen.
About what i have froze i followed the safe apps to remove thread here. Just froze most on the list i dont use and froze some not sure about to test if the phones ok after freezing (still figuring out what i want to be frozen as well). Mainly tho the following;
Moved all gameloft/preinstalled games to sd via titanium backup (free)
Anonymous useage stats
Iplayer
chinese keyboard
both the digital clocks
everything facebook related
google maps

postcard
retail demo
setup guide

street view

anything timescape related
twitter extension
+ a few others i have forgot
But i have not filled my phone full of crap i dont use. Just kept the stuff i use regularly and will install others as i see fit. Currently Internal Memory: 161mb used / 219mb free. Ram: 120mb used / 254 mb free.
The Good -
- Hardware Buttons work GREAT with emulators. Honestly this is an emulators fan dreams come true.
- Hardware buttone work GREAT with Gameloft games. You think they are good on the iphone? They are 100 times better on the Play.
- Android Market Games are starting to work pretty good with the Play. Lots of games support the D Pad even if they dont mention it.
The Bad -
- Auto Brightness still cant be disabled as a stock feature.
- Low RAM means sometimes games stutter a little bit. (This is hardly an issue, but if you look close you can see it in some games, so it's worth mentioning)
- More games need to start appearing
Conclusion -
I personally hate using touchscreen for games. My finger prodding on the glass gets completely agitated to the point it drives me insane. The hardware buttons as controllers is an awesome feature.
You get all the Android software working excellently as you would on any Android phone.
It is a solid gaming phone, but does have room for improvement. The screen has an excellent display, but it's not as good as some phones. The auto brightness is a part of this reason.
Battery Life is decent. However it's unlikely you can last 2 days without charging. You will need to charge every night.
Speakers are very decent. The loudest on a phone i have ever heard.
Gameloft games are cheap and plentiful. Forget almost every other developer though, decent games other than Gameloft games are almost non-existent.
Basically if you love gaming and enjoy Gameloft + Emulators, then this phone is most definatley for you. If you dont care about gaming onphone and just want a quick touchscreen game every now and again, then go for something else. Either an iPhone or a powerful Tegra 2 chipset.
Gamer's Phone
The obvious reason to get this phone is the controls.
Basically, if you game on your phone, get the Play. If not, get something else. It really is that simple.
The controls rock. Emulators are perfect. Nothing better than playing old school NES or Sega games. The gameloft games run great, and lots of games in the market have support but dont mention it. I sit at work and play all day long.
The analogs work better than you think they would although it takes some getting used to. I
As a phone I have no issues. Its just like any other android I've had. Dont let the specs fool ya, its pretty quick, camera is good enough for me and I've only used the front facing camera once. It was fine. Mine came with a class 2 sd card so I bought a class 10. Made a little difference. Noticeable at least.
I like it.

I beg to differ, the iPhone 2g had an inferior screen.
The Play's screen may not be good in the direct sunlight, but it's still far from the worst. I have no troubles reading stuff in direct sun. Sure, colors go to ****, so pictures and videos suck, but as a phone it's still completely usable.

Difficult to get rid of Xperia Play?

It's horrible easy to think of reasons to move to a newer phone, like getting a quad core CPU, more RAM, more storage, higher resolution, HDMI, other great features... but the only reason I don't want to move to another phone is because of the gamepad. I know some have moved... what about you guys?
I'm likely gonna move on to the LG Nexus once it's out, along with the iControlPad2. Best of both worlds. And usable thumbpads. Heck yeah
EDIT: I'm always gonna keep my Play around just for the sake of music playback though. It has waaaay better audio quality than the iPod Touch
So difficult! My play has been in standby for the last month due to flex issue,
I said that I'd get it fixed then sell it, but as soon as i got it fixed from xperia center... I started to feel like i couldn't let it go...

I really don't play games on it anymore because all the custom ROMs I've tried really have pretty bad battery life imo. And as I'm a heavy 3G user (whatsapp/browsing), I can't afford the extra battery lost from gaming. Besides, the Xperia Play is not powerful enough to multitask (switch between whatsapp/browser and some game, for example).
I still appreciate the gamepad, though, I've played enough emulator games through the past year to have used its worth.
Its Impoosible.
I was gonna get a s3 but i just couldnt.
My heart would tell me that there will be no gamepad so it will be a fail.
I allready bought my note 2, but im going to keep my play as first phone and use my note to watch films, work, and some games like gta 3 with sisaxis cintroller.
But... LONG LIVE TO THE XPERIA PLAY!

i wont move to a phone without gamepad . unless play 2 is out .
Received my S3 today, Asphalt 7 and MC3 free in Samsung Apps, I'm loving the smoothness, The only thing I miss is the gamepad which I will get over.
I'm planning on replacing my play with the new Nexus, and using a PSP for my gaming needs.
However, I'll never be able to trash my play.

Sold my Galaxy S to get my PLAY, which to me seemed a downgrade as the galaxy screen was amazing and with SlimBean seemed much faster and smoother than the PLAY, but I LOVE this phone so much more due to the gamepad.
I had no interest in mobile gaming before, and now my PC Steam rating is 3.5, whereas it was a permanent 10 before!!!!
I won't get rid of this phone until something better comes along. It's far too great of a device to let go. The emulators alone give this phone SO much life. I'd say until there's a gaming phone that can handle PS2/gamecube/Xbox games, this will be my phone of choice.
No it's not that difficult since now we can use PS3 hand controller to play games on any Android device.
It's just that I don't want to change my xperia play.
Yeah, I'm finding it hard to move too, unless an XPlay 2 like phone comes out...
I wasn't thinking of moving until I went on my dad's s3 and now I am stuck because I love the gamepad. I also kind of need a new phone too, the screen is cracked and the proximity sensor is broken. Do I spend money on repairs or start saving for the S3?

It's just more convenient to have the controller built into the phone. The amount of times I have gone out with the missus shopping and she wants to try the whole shop on, the play has saved so many arguments.
I had a bluetooth controller years ago when I had my XDAII (or HTC himalaya) which worked perfectly but I found I never really had it on me when I needed it. Only when I had planned to have it, and this is the same with any separate controller like the PS3 or Wii ones. You wont have them on you all the time, whereas the PLAY always has its controller!
As much as I'd like to change phones the gamepad on the Xperia PLAY is not letting me. As a gamer It's just one of those things that I need
cause sometimes when i'm out and about or bored the gamepad really comes in handy.
I'm finding it difficult to move to a new phone tbh.
So will be keeping my Xperia PLAY till a new one comes out

Buy a new XPlay, maybe? They're cheap on eBay...
Has anyone ever noticed that the gamepad isn't just great for games? I haven't been doing it much lately, but when I first bought the XPlay, I used the gamepad a lot for Internet browsing and other apps... it's a whole lot of fun for Internet browsing...
I use a separate phone which I tend to switch very often. But I do like to keep a Play for the purpose of classic gaming, couldn't get my R800i fixed, so I bought a used R800x. The camera of this device is still on par with the Galaxy Nexus, maybe slightly less detailed, but definitely better for night shots. The sound quality is just as good as the Galaxy S. Guess I'll be stuck with Gingerbread, at least its stock Android to my surprise.

I'm running CM 10.1 on my Nook HD+, and just finished watching the last 9 races of the America's Cup on it (using the official America's Cup app from Google Play store). No problems at all, looked great. Watched a number of HD videos that I'd downloaded (e.g., Harvard Science and Cooking lectures). Fine all around, screen resolution is fantastic.
Not a big gamer, but have been playing Where's My Water (after watching my daughter play it) and a version of the old favorite Tetris. Again, graphics are fine, no lag issues.
I think you'll be very happy.

I bought one (hd+) about 3 months ago, and have been using CM10.2-sdcard as daily driver for about a couple of weeks. Reasonably fast for Netflix, Hulu-plus, Adobe Reader (PDFs with heavy graphics). Not sure about games. Not laggy at all for videos.
I have a Nook HD+ at my home, I gave it to my father. He lets my younger brother play with it all the time; playing various Google Play games, Nintendo 3DS ROMs and so much more. It's rarely ever used for reading at my home, other than when web browsing.
I would completely recommend a Nook HD+ for your entertainment purposes. It plays 1080p video files (.avi, .mp4 and .mkv are all what I've tested) perfectly fine using MX Player. Games work on it perfectly too, however, don't expect too many games to be compatible or expect to play the latest high-end graphical games. The three reasons for this is, firstly, the graphics performance of the tablet is not the greatest, but then again we can't expect it to be at a bargain price. Secondly the dual-core processor can't push as much as today's quad-cores can, and finally; many games and apps don't support the full 1080p resolution of the tablet (i.e. Sims FreePlay and other similar apps only support 720p or lower resolution screens). Of course, the last factor plays a major role but more apps are starting to support the higher resolution.
Games are compatible however, and you have a large selection on the Google Play store. The Nook should be able to run Hill Climb Racing, granted the game supports the 1080p resolution. If it does, the Nook will eat the game for breakfast. The games I've run on the tablet which was slow/laggy are Asphalt 7 and 8. FIFA 14 seems to run decent though.
Once you do open your Nook, remember to install CyanogenMod 10.1 stable (not nightly), of course by then we could have CM10.2 or even later. I used the Nook before the 2.0.10 update, and it was not worth having (no apps/games were installable, nor did Google Play come as standard). Once CyanogenMod was installed, it was a full fledged tablet, competing against the likes of the Nexus 7. Of course, with the 2.0.10 update, the Nook can now download Google Play apps. For the sake of Android, I would still recommend CyanogenMod however.
Once you install CyanogenMod, which is an easy process, you'll love your tablet. It should completely satisfy your entertainment needs.
I hope you enjoy it, and an early Merry Christmas.

That app creates instability and can create boot issues. Not worth it IMO, but already "took" my $2. This function is more suitable at kernel level and part of settings. Best IMO to avoid.
It is also a battery sucking mess in sleep mode. The app must constantly poll the chipset.

It is not as much the app as how it changes the resolution that is standard for all.

[Q] Gaming performance

I've basically been playing a few games like asphalt 7&8 and modern combat 4 and I've noticed that it doesn't really perform well. MC4 and asphalt 7 ran quite well with occasional stutters, but overall it's quite smooth. On asphalt 7, if I were to go to the homescreen and back into the game, the accelerometer will become laggy, like... the car would take 1/2 a second to turn when I tilt the device instead of instantly. The device also gets very hot on asphalt 7. On asphalt 8, the screen transitions in games are not smooth at all, and in game I would have frequent framerate drops to 20+. I've watched youtube videos of G2 playing asphalt 8 and they never had that problem. The phone doesn't get very hot but it still is slow. Anyone else had performance problems with gaming? I'm really bummed cos I can't exchange it. :crying::crying::crying:
Is there some kind of Power Saving mode on the G2?
I don't own the phone yet, but On the Galaxy devices you have Power Saving toggle that will underclock the CPU causing games to run like crap.
Strange, because I play all games smooth and maxed out on my G2 (international).
Played modern combat for 1 hour straight no lag
Best device i played this game on as well, actually feels a little smoother than my nexus 10.
No lag and no heat.
I play those two games as well. No issues on my g2. The accelerometer is a bit laggy though I guess.

I'm pretty sure these games just have bad optimisation for Snapdragon 800, and people just are used to gaming at low framerates, because this and this is exactly the type of stuff I see too. Remember that YouTube is limited to 30 fps, but you can still see how this dips to 15 at times, which just shouldn't be possible on a Snapdragon 800 as we can see that this game runs butter smooth. Might also be the dreadful thermal throttling, that LG really need to fix.

Testing Vice City on G2 gave me abysmal performance. If GTA III runs this bad too, I will get another unit and test further. I hope my unit is faulty, otherwise LG really needs to bring 4.4 to G2 and fix it.

Maybe it's because LG is lowering gpu frequency to save battery, have you tried a custom kernel?

I don't feel like rooting it if there's something wrong with it

You can also try this:
1) In the dialer write 3845#*802#
2) Set High Temperature Property to ON
3) power off the G2 and wait 10 seconds, then reboot
Let me know if it works, thanks.

Testing GTA III to see whether I should get a new one now. Would you say it runs at 60 FPS on stock firmware? Would it be possible for you to film you playing it and upload it for me? (send the file, YouTube is rubbish for showing how a game runs)

Done testing GTA III on G2. Did a factory reset afnd got bad performance again. Not as bad as Vice City, it still stuttered when loading textures and I experienced some pop-ins and overall sluggishness.

First of all, thanks for the help, I appreciate it
Second of all, after trying this, it didn't fix the problems I had with Vice City at all. I guess I'll have to take it to the store tomorrow for replacement and if it still doesn't work I'll wait for an update to roll out. No way this baby isn't gonna be mine.
I can tell you I've tested 3 g2s 1 was a att version 2 were T-Mobile . 1 was stock other 2 were rooted and running a custom ROM. I only play 1 game, clash of clans .. I can only go a few mins and the phone heats up a lot and the screen becomes laggy to the point I have to shut the game off for a few mins. so its def a issue with this phone. And I've played that game on like 6 androids and I phones and never had this issue.

This seems to be a general issue with the phone, so I guess LG will fix it when they bring 4.4 to it. Will try and get another G2 today to see whether I got unlucky with my first.
OP, sorry for hijacking, what I really wanted was to check whether it's an issue with the phone or whether it's an issue with our specific phones.
My guess is its just these phones in general .

Bad kernel, bad optimization from both LG and the game devs and old Android version. The hardware is great, everything else... Not so much.

Went and got myself another unit. Still has the same problems. LG ought to fix this.
Dead Trigger 1 & 2 runs perfectly smooth, but Doodle Jump occasionally stutters.

[root & non-root fix] buttery smooth gaming & no fps drop [100% working]

Anyone else notice the lag when playing games?
Especially Blazblue, Bleach Brave Souls, 3D games, etc?
WELL youve found the right place here!
ROOT SOLUTION (100% LAG FREE)
Buttery JUST like an iphone 7! 100% LAG FREE
1)Install BatMan Rom in the Samsung S8 Rom development (Credits for making the rom!)
2)Install PekakaKernel
3) Root as Usual with magisk
4) After phone has been setup, download Kernel audiutor app
5) Before you play your game, set Minimum and Maximum both to 2314mhz for the BIG cpu & LITTLE cpu & GPU to min & max 572mhz
6) Click on governor and change to "Performance"
7) At the top of the settings page, click Apply on Boot
8)DONE! Enjoy your iphone buttery Gaming experience!
My lag in Bleach Brave souls and every other game has gone. So happy I made the decision to go custom rom & kernel!
NON-ROOT SOLUTION:
(decreases lag by ~40%!)
1)Install new launcher (nova) or anything light weight. Do not use Samsung's stock launcher.
2) Install Samsung's Game Tuner App & set your game settings to HW +5, and your resolution to however you like. I have mine on 100% as it feels snappier.
3) DONE!
you should notice 30-50% less lag and games will be actually be "playable" (remember to always play with game tuner app, with HW+5 setting) but you will still feel the lag here and there and in certain graphic intensive situations, it will still drop frame but its your best non-root solution!
if this worked for you, please donate me a beer or 2 thru my paypal at [email protected] cheers!
Same here man. Even a game as simple as the Tsum tsum game lags. My wife ain't happy about that as her iphone had no issues with games.

Eg I'm playing bleach, when skills are used the phone lags like an iPhone 4. Now thus is a powerful device it should not lag lag like this.
Have expiremented with game launcher, high performance mode different resolutions, etc to no avail.
Anyone have same issues or possible fixes?

What kind of lag are you experiencing in Bleach, Co-op lag or standard quest? I haven't had any issues, playing right now.
Just tried the game out and have zero lag. Smooth like my pixel.

I would say when it comes to apps specially gaming give at least a month before updates for them start rolling out. Most of them aren't optimised for the Galaxy S8. Once updates start rolling out i believe the experience will get a whole lot smoother.
anybody plays Mobile Legends?
my problem is the game isn't smooth.
there's constantly lag/delay.
I've tried downloading Package Disabler Pro, and disabled GamePad & Game Services.
it did make my game smoother, but the lag/delay still can be felt.
You can really notice the difference when you play something on iOS then play on this phone. Marvel Contest of champions is my go to game. Open that game on this phone and on an iPhone, not onlky does the iphone open is much faster, going through the menus is a breeze.
Tsum Tsum lags on this phone as well compared to the iphone and so does subway surfers. This is pretty pathetic with suppose top of the line specs.
Same here. Playing Fifa Mobile and it lags. This is really frustrating. Such a device and than this. Even on my old huawei p9 no lags. Anybody found a solution?

No, Mali g71 is already supported on Mate9/P10, while Adreno 540 on non Samsung device already runs Riptide Renegade at 2k ultra settings and 60fps for an hour!
The SoC is clearly crippled on the s8 for battery score, high performance mode is BS, you really can do nothing before root to fix it, believe me I have been trying on my friends s8
I haven't had any such problems and I play marvel contest of champions and star wars force arena.
Not a hint lag or slowdown hardwear wise.

No lag on mine either. Whether gaming or during anything. Phone is extremely fast.
Another thing, Just play
Skyforce reloaded on an exynos S8 vs s821 device to see the much inferior graphics, Mali's support is not great
I have severe problems playing Hearthstone. It sometimes doesn't register clicks and freezes for a couple of seconds.
I have no problems with lag, but I do with crashing. Bleach Brave Souls is constantly crashing. Froze game launcher, no launcher.

High performance mode doesn't make any changes to the cpu or gpu, sadly - only display resolution, brightness, etc. g71 is on mate9/p10, but with less cores = less heat. Also only Samsung goes extreme to gain a little more battery life. Sad as in reality you pay so much for super high end phone and the games play worse vs 3 years old phones. This is unacceptable, but Samsung gets away with it every years and keep doing it.
I think anyone posting here should make the distinction of they have exynos or s835 s8, the exynos version is just pathetic in running any game and if it runs good initially just play 5 minutes before it goes to hell, a phone with such hype and raving reviews should not be given a blind eye about this, it's inexcusable including the UI which lags in every corner
I just hope the s835 version runs things better (I know the UK doesnt)
