[Q] ES File Explorer Corrupted my Notification Chooser? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, this morning I was using the newest version of the ES File Explorer, and I selected a new audio file I made to use as a notification tone. I played it in ES, and used the "Set as Notification" option. it said successful, so I went to make sure it took, and now any time I try to change the tone (tap on the Notification Sound button to browse the list) I get a FC in android.process.media. Any idea what happened or how i can fix it? I uninstalled ES but that didn't help.

Maybe try wipe dalvik and cache

My phone is completely stock right now, so I guess I will have to unlock the bootloader, etc. I'll try it tonight when I get home.

Try restarting your phone first and see if it solves the problem

Restarting did not help, but strangely deleting that sound file did....I guess there's something about it my phone doesn't like. Thanks for the suggestions though. :good:

Yes, try the easy way before the hard way

i don't have too many apps... i always used go launcher and it worked great... but without it the notifications didn't show on portrait mode... on cm7 and miu( not sure about this one) only worked with go launcher or on landscape ... the default rom i don't remember since the first thing i did was flash it with cm7... it was never a problem cuz i always used go launcher but now i don't wanna lose the transitions and effects of the ics, and in top of that the home screens only work in portrait... that means that i need to open sms or something that works on landscape to be able to open the notification tab and that pisses me off..
but either ways.. thanks for ur time

[Q] Can't remove empty folder in app drawer

I have an empty folder in my app drawer (first icon in the screenshot). I can't seem to add items to it or delete it by dragging it to the trash. Any ideas?
So when you hit menu it won't let you uninstall it? Boot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik.

Seriously?! That seems pretty extreme. This phone isn't rooted or anything, absolutely stock.

Not sure how clearing the cache and dalvik is extreme. I do that dozens of times each week. I don't remember for sure if dalvik is in the stock recovery. If not just try clearing cache.

Just push menu on the app drawer screen, tap on 'edit', then you can move it to trash - this works.
How to do it

Foreground apps crash with no errors

Hello
I have this problem. whenever I open play store and apply updates or install new apps, the play store crashes and the updates are interrupted until I re-open it and resume the update manually. This doesn't seem to happen when the updates are done in the background automatically without opening the store first. I have already tried uninstalling, deleting cache and data, reboot etc. but the problem persists.
I have the Samsung Galaxy note 3 SM-N9005 LTE version with rooted kitkat 4.4.2

I see that very few people have this very annoying issue
I just don't want to resort to factory reset. I mean I know it will probably fix it but I just don't feel like setting my phone up again from the start which is time consuming, besides, what would be the purpose of this wonderful community if all problems were solved by wiping up one's phone.
I was wondering if the cause could be some poor memory management or bad cleaning/anti-virus apps interfering with the memory management I mean I am a complete noob in terms of android management but I assume when there are multiple apps being downloaded/updated at the same time it must consume a great deal of resources but for an app to crash without even the popup message that says "....has stopped" I have never seen before

Maybe you try to get a appstore.apk, delete your's wipe Cache and then install the apk.
I would also recommend data wipe though cause with backup (I use titanium) it'll be less time consuming than everything else. Just backup user data and you won't have to set it up again. The thing is it's not guaranteed that the problem lies within playstore and since we don't have your phone in our hands it is nearly impossible to point you to the exact fix.

well... speaking of backup I also use titanium and nandroid, thank god for that because earlier I tried something stupid (suggested here on XDA though) I cleared the app store cache and data which is fine because I did it before with no problem but then I cleared the google services framework data/cache, I wish I hadn't because it literally messed everything up. I was unable to connect at all to the store even though I had a good network connection. thank god it worked again after I restored the app/data
I can live with that issue. it's not such a hassle since I usually check the play store for updates every day at least. but I may try your first suggestion though. thanks 4aces

As you wish b careful though. I think (definitely not 100% sure) you have to put the apk file in device/system/apk with es file Explorer or root Explorer and than put the permission to rw rr.
That's why I recommend full wipe.

oops... no appstore.apk in /system/app folder. how could that be? On the other hand there is a com.android.vending-1.apk in /data/app so I'm puzzled

thanks for the link. maybe I could try to update it as my version is 4.6.17 which is older than 4.8.19 and see if there is a change. One thing I don't understand is that one can only disable it and not uninstall it so does that mean it's a system app even though it's not in the /system/app folder? should I convert it to user app with titanium prior to update?

From what I read so far it is implemented in system and not so easy to mess with. In the link above is a link back to xda. It'll be best if u read it.
PS. Hitting the thanks button is faster than typing
Ok I installed the new version but no improvement the app still crashes while downloading the second update. Grrrrr... insane!

One more suggestion. Try to open application manager in settings and select all. Look for download manager and clear the cache then reboot.
If it doesn't help wait for other replies or wipe data will have to do the work.

I tried that but didn't help. then I tried to update and move to system, made it even worse as play store crashed as soon as I hit the update button. Reinstalling the app wouldn't help so I had to restore a nandroid backup. I'm giving up now but won't waste time doing a wipe data because it's not a real issue since I'm able to update anyway by hitting the button and close play store right after. All my apps still update in the background anyway

[Q] Unfortunately, AudioFX has stopped.

I am running Note 3 SM-N9005 Rooted CM12.1 custom rom. It has a built-in audio equalizer called Audio FX. I disabled it since I installed another "more efficient" equalizer from play store. When I log into my other account in my phone, an error keeps popping out saying "unfortunately, audio fx has stopped". I stucked in there without any option since its looping. Then I reboot to try my luck with stopping it from popping up. Sadly, its no use. Its more worst since it is now affect my primary account. Looping endlessly. Please help and if there is an option to delete this "cursed" app outta my phone, please tell me. Phone is love, Phone is life.

By using ? manager in twrp you can navigate to any file in your system and delete them. Look for the apps name or ask the app developer where it is stored.
I mean clear systems dalvic/cache after .

What happens when you do click on the apk files? You might have to clear defaults for your apps if you accidentally picked some app to open up apk's.
