The latest Galaxy Note keyboard includes an extra row of numbers at the top which means you can type numbers without needing to change between alphabetic and numeric layouts. Has anyone got the Galaxy Note keyboard working on the 7.7 or know of a keyboard in Google Play which is similar? The ICS keyboard seems to not have the extra row of numbers which is a shame.
In the play store there is a free keyboard app called hacker's keyboard that have a number row that might fit your needs

Thanks for that information about the Hacker's keyboard which I have tried and it works fine on the 7.7. I have hit the thank you button to show my gratitude.
Thanks mate. The application eased up my effort to edit data on my documents and records.

This is a disclaimer you get when installing any 3rd party keyboard, you shouldn't be so worried about
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using Tapatalk 2
Really? I don't ever use aftermarket keyboards so I can't say that i've been bothered to read their disclaimers, but doesn't that make you worried? I mean, just because its a keyboard doesn't mean it needs to say it tracks your credit card, if its not recording/sending those keystrokes, right? Or even if it's not doing it now, don't you worry that the permission is there to in the future? If these are standard permissions that need to be set for any keyboard then Google needs (and devs and consumers need to be asking for more) to develop API's to separate all of this.
Well, you use any app on your own risk. I am more worried about the apps that don't say it but still collect various data, check out the latest scandals with apple and CIQ... Basically, any app you use on a smartphone or tablet could subject you to all kinds of data collecting, I don't think there is a way to escape this as long as your phone/tablet has any form of data connection.
Remember, all sorts of Big Brothers are watching you!

I use thumb keyboard for this, there's an option near the settings to hide/unhide an extra row at the top of the keyboard but they are customizable hotkeys, I just set them to be 0-9. Also there is the button for stored quicktexts which comes in very handy when filling forms or entering email addresses etc..

The warning doesn't day that it DOES collect info... It just says that 3rd party keyboards CAN collect basically anything you type, which should be pretty obvious.

Plus, Hacker's Keyboard is an open source project, so it would be a bit difficult to inject code that would collect information without anybody knowing.
With that said, SwiftKey X is my preferred keyboard on all Android devices that I have, with Hacker's Keyboard right after it for command line stuff (I'm a geek and I love the command line )

It's kinda impossible to create a keyboard that has no potential of collecting your keystrokes - that's what a keyboard does.
You can check the app permissions to see if a permission, like internet access, makes you uncomfortable. Some keyboards are designed with internet access in mind, though (swiftkey).
Well, I wanted to share this for anyone that , like me, didn't think Samsung did that great a job with the keyboard on the GS3. I just downloaded the Swype Beta for our phone and played with it for a while..It's really NICE. Much better imho than that frustrating thing they used in our phones! I don't know what happened, but after using the Samsung KB for a while I started getting really frustrated. Not sure what the heck happened to my old Swype KB? Hell, that's one of the biggest reasons I was sold on my OG Epic4G! It was the closest thing to a perfect KB that I had ever found. Now I'm not saying this is perfect, but I think it's a LOT better and it's free!
Anyways, for those that may not know how, just go to the Swype site, log in or register, and they'll email you a link that you'll open with your phone. Then just follow the instructions from there. Not sure if you have to be rooted or not (I AM). It installed without even a question on my phone. Then go into you Settings>Language and Input, check the Swype keyboard if not already checked and (this is IMPORTANT) in the "Default " space make sure you select - Swype keyboard. :victory:
been using Swype beta keyboard since i got the phone. Default Samsung keyboard is awful in my opinion

Is it similar to the way Swype works, I'll try it, thanks:good:?
Swiftkey is a hunt and peck keyboard with strong prediction, so no, not at all like Swype.
Count me in the group that likes swype more. One of the first things I installed on the phone.

That's just it, swiftkey requires pecking keys the old way. Since I first realized that not lifting your finger during a word and not having to hit space after it, I can't use a regular keyboard in any fashion of the same speed times. I do realize that Swiftkey has a great lead on the next word, but I prefer not having to hope that it knows what I'm going to say and lift my finger up to select it's guessed word at top when it gets it right. It is just a distraction that adds to the time it takes to type out what I want to say.
Sticking with Swype myself for the foreseeable future.
-Xont!c
I still prefer swiftkey, the prediction feature make typing so fast and easy. I rarely have to type a whole word.

I've been using AnySoftKeyboard for a while now. It sounds similar to swiftkey 3. I'll have to try swiftkey as having a german keyboard layout is a must for me.
not being able to quickly add words to dictionary on stock was the major killer for me, swype beta all the way!
Swype is awesome in that you can type very fast with just one hand.
I suppose that this is especially important for those do sexting:fingers-crossed:

Samsung has done a good job of accepting/copying mods and features that we've been building into their devices these last couple of years. They've also knocked off some services. While Swype was pre-included, now Samsung has made their own 'swype' keyboard. But no, it's not as good, by far.
Although out of all of the upgrades, I'm confused how we went from Thinkfree Office, to Polaris Office, to Polaris Viewer. I don't know about you gents, but I've removed the viewer crap and ported my old Polaris 3 and its 2 libraries. Works fine for me. :good:

hmmm i tried both swype and swiftkey but idk i feel swype is so much better. A lot faster and after like 10 mins it learns you. It has learned every i do perfectly . Especially since i type random stuff lot and weird words like mostest and fugly and weird ****. Swiftkey is..idk just too much pecking
I used touchpal on my epic. Was far better than the swype that came with it. Very good for typing and swiping and has good predictions. Haven't installed a new keyboard on this yet. May try the new swype to see how it has improved since then.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using XDA
I moved away from Swype some time ago, to Swiftkey, now the V3. It is excellent.
But, I decided to try the Swype beta, and I am definitely sold.
Even though Swiftkey is great at predicting, the fact is that you still have to take the fraction of a second to watch the predictions, and select it.
As an example with Swype 4 beta, I can swype over all the chars for my entire gmail name, which is my first [email protected] and Swype fills it in. Much better than in the past. Now, in that particular example, Swiftkey would likely be faster, because you learn that with poking the right first few keys, it will be in the prediciton, and you can click it.
Both are excellent, and maybe ultimately it is just personal preference. In my case, I have enough trouble hitting the right keys, and find Swype to be faster for me.
Okay so we all know the S4 for the US carriers had the auto correct feature disabled without any way to enable it (Thank you Apple). Installing an international keyboard resulted in extreme lag.
The big question is will the Note 3 keyboard suffer the same fate because of the Apple lawsuit? I know some of you dislike auto correct but for me typing without it is an infuriating mess. I like Swiftkey and the Android keyboard but I really like Samsung's number row at the top and would prefer to use that instead.
Perhaps N2 keyboard could be ported in case it's disabled?
Why not download Google keyboard from play store
Never mind I see you mentioned that already

If I'm not mistaken samsung keyboard is the only keyboard that supports multi-window
Auto-correct isn't universally reviled?
hmmm so nobody knows the answer to this one? I was about to make a thread and found this one thanks to the XDA feature before creating a thread, previous ones pop up....
But this questions sort of suggests that the International version of the Note 3 comes with auto correct within the new keyboard.... why would the US version not come with it? can someone confirm? i loved the Note 2's keyboard but it didnt have auto correction... just word prediction but you could not enable auto correct, press the space bar and continue typing on the keyboard... this should be a no brainer feature to have but for some reason, Samsung keeps finding a way to avoid adding it to the features..
again, can someone confirm? we'd appreciate it a lot
My phone is unbranded&unlocked and I bought it here in the Middle East so I have no idea what US or EU carriers will have.
But yes, it does come with auto-correct although they call it "auto-replacement".
Other included options: Auto-Capitalization, Auto-Spacing, Auto-Punctuate, Predictive Text Continuous Input, Character Preview etc...
The AT&T version most certainly has all the auto correct features you could ever want, even with hand written

not sure if this has been discussed yet (could not find much in net either) but some say that the ok google voice commands is not available on the htc one m8. i got mine yesterday through telstra (australia) and have everything stock. today by pure accident i discovered that if you hold the home button down an option to swipe up to google appears. also when in lock screen there is a arrow below the lock symbol that does the same thing. it doesnt seem to be always active like other phones but at least it is there and it works.
ps. absolutely love this phone. upgraded from htc one xl (australian 4g one x) and have to say what a massively huge improvement.
You need to say "ok google" from within Google Search/Now then it works, but that also depends on your local language.
The chipset is very capable of running in a low power mode and waking to voice commands "alright m8" would be awesome, but HTC have chosen not to add it or not add it yet.
There doesn't seem to be stock way of customising the swipe up to get to Google now as there was with the One but HTC are very open to feature suggestions!

So I take it the search widget doesn't work like the Nexus 5 homescreen? The S5 does...
Maybe, I did see someone demonstrate it very quickly but its not a widget I use and did feel inconsistant!
It won't wake up the device as we see on the Moto X at least.
Theres an app called open mic in the app store that lets you wake up pretty much any phone on jb+ via voice command to google search ill text people by talking to my pocket if i put the sensitivity to max but it wakes up to alot no matter what your wakeup phrase is "you can change it.".
You'll be able to activate it from your homescreen if you were to install the GEL launcher. If, however, you wish to keep Sense then you'll either need to do without it or use one of the apps like Open Mic (mentioned above) to do so

Widgets are still avaliable.
What is different is with the M7 with physical buttons, you could swipe up from the home button, or long press depending on your settings.
With the M8 with virtual buttons you just swipe up from the home button just like you do on the nexus devices.
Basically the buttons and google now behave like they do on a nexus.
It's works great haha, I was wondering what can google now do, now it's useful:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
I found this by accident too. I was happy about it.
You can also install the google now launcher if you want it to always be active. The search widget doesn't listen unless yo tap the mike icon.

It's up to the OEM to include that. Samsung decided to make that part of the SOC active for listening while HTC did not, probably out of battery concerns.

It seems that Samsung got rid of the Action Memo since the Note 4. Yes, we do have the Screen Off Memo, but it's not the same as Action Memo, which allowed you to minimize the memo and basically pin it to your screen in order to add on to it, or recall it later.
What's the best replacement without completely replacing the built-in note program? In other words, a program.

I tried his file and it worked, but then updated via the app store and then it stopped working. If you look at the reviews on the S Note app page though, you'll already see some Note7 users complaining about the lack of Action/Quick Memo. Maybe Samsung will make it work. Maybe it's currently not working because the app just needs updating? Who knows.

The best way is to get samsung to see the error in the change, and do something about it. Head over to the playstore and destroy them in a review of the POS Samsung Notes. The ratings are low and falling, but we need to have the ratings really crash. Maybe then they will listen and fix this thing.
