Bluetooth auto connect - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hey all,
My old phone (an infuse 4g) would automatically connect to my car radio when I started the car. My s4 needs to be manually connected every time.
Is there some setting I'm missing?
Thanks

I use A2DP Volume on my SIII since it doesn't auto connect, works great and is very lightweight

It should auto connect after successful pairing. I just paired mine this morning so I will check and see if it connects automatically next time around.

I set up blue tooth in my car right after getting the phone today - (at lunch) went back to work - started the car and blue tooth connected automatically - just like it always did on my Note 2 - no issues - no special configurations.
If it didn't work for you - maybe your settings cleared somehow after you configured yours - that didn't happen often on my note two - but it did on rare occassions...good luck - if you continue to have issues, might be a problem with either your phone or your car - hope it works out....

Nope, no autoconnect. Tried repairing this morning. What a pain... I'll probably get an NFC tag for my car as a fix, but this kinda sucks. I'm going to try some other bluetooth devices to make sure there's nothing wrong with the phone...
I've searched around, looks like some people had this problem with the sIII

So if i turn bluetooth off and then on again, i get a popup "connect" menu. (i'd rather it just connect to whatever's around, like my infuse 4g did) I wonder if this is related?

I believe that is the standard behavior. If I don't touch that popup it goes away and my phone still auto connects as expected.

Got home, tried it with my nokia bluetooth headset, and i get the same behavior. going to the at&t store tonight to see what they say.

Why dont you guys just do a factory restore instead of going to AT&T? What are they gonna do?

I actually did factory restore. it didn't help.
Turns out the "visible" checkbox needs to be checked for the thing to autoconnect. wierd. it all works now....nevermind.

I don't have that box checked. Although I bet that could depend on the device you're paired to.

hey guys quick question about the internet connection, ive never used android before, can you manually disconnect and connect the connection or does it work like the iphone where you have no control? also if it does work manually does it auto disconnect after closing apps?
On my phone, it prompts you to use wifi in the initial set up at which point it takes you to a menu screen. In this screen you enable wifi as well as connect to your network of choice. Now, Like the iPhone, when you leave the area your on, and come back, it automatically reconnects for you without any prompts.
Unlike the iPhone, it does not notify you (as of my experience thus far) of any available connects in your proximity.
Hope this helps you some. =)
Cheers,
Bryan
thanks mate, how are you finding the phone so far?

WiFi and 3G

I currently have a BlackBerry Bold 9000 - come the start of February I will finally get my hands on an HD2...
I don't really use the wireless on my BlackBerry - so my question is this:
Does the HD2 select a Wifi connection over the 3G when I am in a place where I can use either? Does it know to stop using 3G when I am in connection distance to something like my home network?
This is probably a stupid question - I rarely ever surf using my BB since it just does not lend itself to this very well.
Thanks in advance for the feedback.

If I've got my HD2 paired up with a wifi network and have the wifi turned on it will automatically choose this connection before anything else including 3G. However, I'm not sure about public wifi hotspots as I've not tried it.
That is what I was hoping was the answer - I suspect that should I connect to a public wifi spot that it would than take precedence over the 3G connection - this is a bit new to me. I will have a fairly good data bundle when I upgrade but it is nice to know.
Thanks
Scott
You will generally find that the action of turning the WiFi on, then entering the public hotspot connection credentials will then make the WiFi the default transport.
If you have already previously paired and entered the credentials, then you should only need to turn WiFi on for it to be used.
Remember that WiFi goes off when the device goes into standby to save battery drain, but will come on again after a few seconds when the device is turned on again.

Unless you want it to stay on when the phone goes into standby, for when you're downloading something large, for example. Then you can use something like WifiNoStandby (see my sig)

My WiFi stays on even though the phone suspends; has done so out of the box since I got it. Has anyone figured out why some HTC HD2 does and some don't?

It's actually a registry value that determines whether to keep the wifi on when the phone enters standby. If yours was like that out of the box then it had been set by someone else previously. This isn't default behaviour for any of the stock ROMs.

My HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms\HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended is set to 0 and WiFi still stays on when phone is suspended.
Sounds like a fault with your phone then. What if you wanted it to do the default behaviour and turn off wifi when in standby? You can't.

Good point. I wouldn't.
Now, has anyone figured out why some HTC HD2's act like this, and some don't? I'd like to know in case this awesome functionality goes away one day when I install some intrusive application.

wifi drops

I have a tattoo for a couple of days and my wifi connection drops out every few minutes. Have searched around xda and google but haven´t found an answer that worked/helped.
I have wireless router in my house. We don´t have any free wifi connections around city so i don´t how it behaves on other connections.
Did anyone found any kind of a solution for this?
What's your router model?
Wifi Drops
Same problem here i got a Netgear WNR2000
have you tried your router's connection with any other device ? (ex. a laptop or another cellphone? ) 'cause it might be a router connection problem
I haven´t tried it with other devices i will do so... It´s Huawei echolife HG520b

i tried 4 laptops and 2 printers to wifi ( works well
I have also been having this issue over the past couple of days. It has worked fine since I bought the phone last month and now the wifi connects and then starts searching again immediately. The router is working fine with laptops and ps3 and another desktop in the back of the house. Im sitting right beside the router now with the signal showing full bars but instantly looping into the search mode and dropping connection. Have soft reset several times and nothing. Also does it with a friends router.
What's the deal here? Is there a fix or a setting im missing?

I have tried my friends laptop and nokia E65 phone and both worked without any problem!
So it seems to be android problem...
I have tried many things that I´ve found on google site and other forums and nothing helped.
Have been changing chanels, security, firewall, hard reset the phone etc. and always the same-every couple of minutes it loses connection!
It seems to be the problem with android 2.1 also....
Hope that someone has a valid solution (and soon)
I had the same problem as all of you. Some times the internet connection was fine and other it simply droped and I couldn´t even find the connection in the setings..
So I asked in a Portuguese forum what could I do to solve the problem and I was advised to use the app 'fix my Wifi'.. I have to say it worked perfectly. It needs some time to understand the problem (some drops will hapen at the begining), but when it understands, the problem disapears.. Until this moment, it never droped again.. I advise you all to use it..
Hello from Slovenia!
Same problem with wifi. I checked the wifi fixer, but i dont know how to do with this app.
I cant click on start or ok, when i start the app, because the text is over the button.
I´ve got DL-524, and sometimes it works perfect, that stop working for 30sec maybe, and then work and then again stop.....
VERY MAD !
Greetings
Hello.
What it says in the begining is that you need to select 'never' in the wifi setings, the part where you choose when does the wifi turns off. Don't worry, use a wiget to turn wífi off when you don't need it..
Then just leave it on, it will fix, in time, your wifi problem. Whit me worked perfectly..

I change it manual, to always on. So just start the problem and turn on wifi and check if somethink happened
I think, that app Wifi Fixer, isnt for the HTC Tattoo. It stops all the time, screen is not in the right dimension, its buggy.
Force close, when try to activate it
Any other ideas?
I try :
- No security, open network ( Same problem )
- No Mac Filter
- WPA Personal TKIP
- WPA2 Personal
I change everything but, still problems
((( Sad
That is very strange, because i have a tattoo (i'm writing in it this moment!) and i'm using the app.. it works fine, no screen problems. I open it (and an icon appears in the tab bar) and i dont have to do anything else.. It really woks great, the connection never failed again and, as i said, i'm using it and it didmt go down. Before thist app, thist was impossible..

But when you start the app, i get on the tab bar, response like thank you for using ...... etc. but when i go to the program, the main screen is bad, About button and Ok, are got, but the active is in the middle of the text. Text is over the button. Heh strange
That ís very strange. But you dont need to go to the main menu. Just make sure the icon is in the tab bar. Then just wait for the app to do is job.. as i said, it will take some time..

I do not have the issue, but maybe you can try this.
1. Open phone dialer (Phone App)
2. Dial *#0011#
3. The ServiceMode screen will be open. When it is open. Tap on menu button on top right.
4. Select "WiFi"
5. Find "WiFi Power Save Mode"
6. Press the "ON" button to turn the "WiFi Power Save Mode" off. (It will show as "OFF" if it is off)
7. Your WiFi will be off and on again.
8. Try to reconnect to the Wifi.
This didnt work still the same

thanks for the help guys i appreciate it a lot, does anyone know what i can do?
have you found a fix to this yet? I'm having the same issue and getting ready to just return the phone and buy something else. My home network is fine, the other tablets, phones, laptops are having 0 issues, Yet my GS5 is either dropping or something, it seems to run horrible slow and things just time out.

No, and the reason that we don't know is that you didn't provide any useful details about your situation.
If you think that someone can do more than make a random guess implies that you think that there are only one or two possible causes. But most issues, including this one, have hundreds of possible causes. So random guesses are not terribly useful. Nor are we psychic, so the only way to efficiently narrow it down is to look for anomolies in your configuration. Which you haven't described.
You should be providing as much technical detail as possible, e.g. what is your home router model & it's firmware version and configuration details, phone firmware version, any specific error messages, any observed pattern, a logcat if you can and anything else that seems relevant.

Have you tried changing the channel on your router?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Change the router channel
Change the router SSID
Default the router comfiguration
Change the router operating mode
Update the router firmware
Move the router to a different location
Use a different router
Unplug your neighbours new 50,000 watt pirate radio station
Update your phone firmware
Buy a different phone
Sacrifice a piece of triple chocolate gnocche cake to the pagan God of chocolate and wifi
All random guesses with roughly equivalent (and small) chances of success.
Or one could try troubleshooting the issue methodically.

Hey guys,
I had this problem before, This is an issue with your samsung device and your ISP. They aren't compatible with each other.
Solution:
You must just block clients3.google.com in your modem/router. You can use Block Web Sites section in your modem/router.
Every thing has a solution.
Enjoy your device WIFI.

I have teh same issue on my S5 Cricket. The WIFI does NOT disconnect. Its connected however I don't have internet connection. Turning the WIFI on and OFF fixes the issue, for a short while until it happens again in an hour. Sometimes I slick on a link and wait and wait just to find out the darn WIFI is not connected to the internet. (probably not even connected to my router properly eg, I cant see my laptop shared drives for example).
This has something to do with saving battery or somthing. WIFI internals shut down, even though the icon on top of the screen still shows I'm connected.

Your phone thinks that your WiFi is unstable and dumps the connection to go back to 4g. Why exactly, who knows, but it's easy to turn off the "smart" network switch. Simply hold down the WiFi icon for 2 seconds to get into the connections section. Right there at the top is the smart network switch section ... just uncheck the selection box. Easy.
Lastly, people like fffft need to get over themselves. The fix for the original poster's question was easy, but since fffft didn't know it, he decided to instead attack in order to make himself feel superior. How sad and pathetic does someone have to be to troll forums looking for opportunities to attack and belittle someone else?

Well I know that Smart Network is turning off wifi.. problem is that i have a fiber at home!! So what kind of problem smart network finds on my broadband?? ?
solution to wifi disconnect problem
I was looking for an answer to a different wi-fi question when I saw this.
I'm on AT&T with my S5.
Under the Wi-Fi settings I have an option for "Smart Network Switch" which says it Automatically switches between Wi-Fi and mobile networks to maintain a stable internet connection. Anytime a computer says it automatically does something for me; I typically say no thanks. I don't typically like my devices making assumptions of what I like, don't like or want to do. So I have that option unchecked. I never have an issue with the network stability once I've connected to a specific wi-fi connection.
Not sure if that will help you all or not. But thought I'd share.
so under Settings --> Quick Settings --> Wi-Fi you will find a check box option named "Smart network switch", untick it, this should take care of the problem.
leon.
Same problem
Hi, I have the same problem. Here some info:
- Device: Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F), Stock, not rooted
- Android version: 5.0
- Kernel version: 3.4.0-5640614 (2015-09-01)
- 'Smart network switch' is turned off
- 'Always allow scanning' is disabled
The problem started 2-3 days ago. When I turn on WiFi/WLAN the phone constantly turns it back off and on again. Didn't happen before, didn't change anything on the router (I have no access to it ) and didn't install a new app (as far as I can remember). I don't know if it only happens on this access point.
I made a log file (adb logcat) but am not sure if it contains sensitive information, is it save to share online?
The logcat doesn't contain any sensitive passwords.

Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900T)
CyanogenMod (13.0-20151203)
Android 6.0 (Marshmallow)
Baseband (G900TUVU1ANE6)
Smart network switch: disabled
Always allow scanning: disabled
What's happening is as soon as my Wi-Fi finishes authenticating and connects, it is immediately disconnected and tries again. No other devices in my house are having any issues, so that eliminates the router. When I factory reset my phone the Wi-Fi begins to work again, so that eliminates my phones hardware. The confusing part is that I installed a bunch of apps such as AdGuard that could possibly cause an issue but everything worked and this started out of nowhere. Also, I factory reset my phone AGAIN and AGAIN, everything worked and out of nowhere while I was looking at my screen while idling, I watched as the Wi-Fi connection dropped and began the disconnect/reconnect loop...
I'm assuming it has to be a software issue because it only started when I updated to a newer Cyanogen. I'm about to test if other Wi-Fi networks have this problem and I'm also going to look through and post a log.
If anyone has any questions or suggestions that may lead to a fix, PLEASE help!
Thanks
Well I factory reset again, this time wiping the internal storage and everything is now fine. I did look at my logcat and there were Wi-Fi errors but I forgot to post them...

connecting to wifi at my job

Idk if its just my phone (samsung galaxy verizon note 3) that does this or if anyone else has this problem. Everyday when im at work when i go to break or lunch they have free WiFi in the lobby area to connect to. Every time i connect to the WiFi my phone automatically turns on hands free mode and s talk or what ever its called. I have went into setting on several occasions and nothing i have tried works it still does it. Its been doing this since i got the phone. It doesn't do it when i connect to any other WiFi though. any advice or anything would be a great help.
