I have a Nexus 4 and along with it, a pesky lag problem. My lockscreen consistently freezes when I go to turn on the screen. I'll press the lock button, the screen will come, and then when I press the lock to unlock the phone, it will freeze. I'll have to turn the screen off and then back on again to be able to unlock my phone.
I had CM10.1 on my phone and I thought this was the issue, so now I have a rooted stock, and still have this problem.
Any ideas as to why this is happening?
Do you have Touch Control (app) installed by any chance? It's known for freezing your screen every now and again (on one phone more regularly than others)
If you don't, I haven't heard of random freezes yet, but could be app related.

Hi there,
Many of you know that nexus 4 is experiencing random "black screen of death". What happens is that the phone freezes while in sleep (stand-by) for long time, for example over night. It is not a complete freeze, as the notification light keep blinking (if there are notifications); when you call the phone the caller hears a proper "ringing" tone (so the phone is not off), but the nexus 4 itself doesn't make any sounds. Alarms also don't sound, which makes Nexus 4 a horribly unreliable alarm clock.
The only way out of the freeze is holding the on/off button for 10 sec, which turns off the phone, and then holding it again for usual 1-2 sec to turn the phone back on.
What I discovered is that these freezes happen 1-3 times a week, but only if I have pattern password on lock screen. When I turn password off (so I have the "slide to unlock"), freezes are gone. Maybe this information will help others, or provide some insight to a complete solution to the problem? Does anybody have other experiences with black screen of death on their nexus 4?
Just a note, I have stock but rooted nexus 4. Internet reports that these problems happen on stock unrooted, stock rooted, custom roms, even on phones freshly out of factory reset with no apps installed.
Here are some threads talking about the problem:
Google Product forum
AndroidCentral Forums
I've always been on SlideToUnlock and mine has been doing that for some time since I started playing with custom roms (w/root)
What fixed it for me was to disable the PlayStore "Auto Update Apps".
Hello, sometimes I will be doing something and my screen will either freeze or tap random places by itself. Anyone else have problem? Freezing is fixed after locking tablet and unlocking it.
Hi there. I'm currently having an issue with my S7 edge where the lock screen won't turn off after some time. The screen does turn off when I'm using the phone normally from the main screen after some time passes but it's just the lock screen I have issues with.
Whenever I charge my phone or just hit the power button once to see notifications on the lock screen, it'll just stay like that until the same time the main screen timeout configured time passes (5 minutes) and this is getting annoying and somewhat draining a little bit more of my battery. Previously it was working fine and the lock screen would turn off after around 10 seconds or so.
Has anyone faced any similar issues with their phones? I haven't tried a factory reset yet but I'd want that to be a last resort.
Clear Background apps.
It happens when you left some games or apps by pressing home button but it keeps running. Hope they will fix this soon.
Have you tried pressing that little button on the right side of the phone? That usually helps.
Yeah...I already tried that with no luck. Even tried uninstalling some recent apps in case one of them was cause but it didn't work either. Any other suggestions?
The issue isn't with turning the phone screen off by pressing the power button, it's the lock screen itself not turning off after a few seconds when it usually does.
I'm having the same problem, had good lock installed thought that may have been the problem but after uninstalling that I'm still having the same problem with samsungs oem lock screen. I too would like an answer or fix for this. also to note, in developer options the stay awake is off and no apps running in the background.
I am having this problem now also. The screen will lock, but the display stays on but dimmed. I can tap the screen and it will get bright. Now I must click the side button every time I set my phone down or the screen will drain the battery.
I'm facing exactly the same issue. When the screen is locked, it stays on for the same time confirmed to when its unlocked. For example, 1 minute, instead of 10-15 seconds.
Any workaround discovered for this?
Did anyone find a solution to this problem?
I thought that I might've been the only one! This problem only appeared on my phone after the Nougat update, and it's extremely annoying as I rely on notifications waking the screen for my main messaging app.

Hello, I am having the same issue in my Redmi note 11 pro plus Phone. In my case The screen will lock but display stays on with dimmed light. Usually it is not visible during day, but in dark room its visible. And it stays the same way whole night. And battery is fully drained and phone is turned off. Is there a solution for this??
Strange problem that comes and goes, but more often than not, the phone rings, screen doesn't turn on. I have to manually wake it and unlock with fingerprint before I'm presented with the answer/reject buttons. Also, it never shows the full screen answer screen, just the small notification window at the top of the screen. Not having any other issues with screen waking.
Completely stock 6t on T-mobile, btw.
Completely stock 6t on T-Mobile as well. I do not have this issue at all. By any chance, do you have an app opened when turning off the screen or are you on launcher/home screen? I've tried both but not able to reproduce your issue. Also, I presume you have rebooted the phone to see if it is a bug fixed by a reboot?

I'd say most of the time it happens its on home screen with no app open when the screen shuts off. It does not seem to be affected by rebooting, but I haven't sat down and done repeated testing to confirm. Thanks for the input though.
This happens to me as well. although I do sometimes get the full screen notice.
Has anyone found a fix for this yet?

I am also facing this issue.
Ever since the phone upgraded itself from Android 8 to android 9 the home screen freezes.
Before the upgrade to 9 this never happened.
I have submitted countless bug fix requests on the Xiaomi bug reporting app on the phone, and have had lots of updates since then, but no fix.
When I am using the phone it never freezes.
But if I let the screen go off then after a while when I click the on/ off button the screen lights up with the home screen but the screen is not responsive to anything.
Except a pull down. How I unfreeze the display is by pulling down from the top, which always works. Then I must tap on anything on the pull down, and this unfreezes the phone.
Ambient display is switched off.
Does anyone know if there is an installed app which causes this, or if otherwise there is a fix?
