I like reporting my location history, so I can see where I have been. However, location history in my maps has been empty for several days. I noticed that "location reporting" (Google maps -> Settings -> Location settings -> Report from this device) turned itself off. I turned it on, but the next day it was off again.
This is not a new problem, and has been around for a while, as you can see here. I also have a tablet (Transformer Prime), where reporting is switched off. I used to have it "on" on both devices, but when I left the tablet home and went somewhere with my phone, location history was jumping between home and my actual location. I wonder if this new problem is somehow cause by two devices conflicting.
This happens to me about once a month but I haven't nailed down why. It does seem to load your settings from a server when you open the location settings page though and I wonder if you exit out of this before it's done it can somehow screw the settings up. It's a long shot I know. I used to have the same issue with my Nexus 7 confusing the hell out of it so I leave location settings off on that device and never, ever go near the settings.
It's annoying because I like to have location settings left on so I get the Google Now Activity card at the start of each month. If you don't report your location for a while (not sure exactly how many days) then this card won't appear.

I'm starting this thread because it's obvious these problems exist, but they don't seem to have been addressed, or at least not in depth.
I upgraded to the Alltel 3.35.671.9 Rom, and have regretted it ever since.
Problems so far:
1. Phone locks for no reason. At first I had not set a password at all, but still got locked out. Removing the battery got around this. So I set a password and phone still locks randomly for no reason. Now the password I set worked for the first 2-3 times, but today it did not work, and i was forced to remove the battery again.
2. Memory Leak coming from nowhere. Occasionally I will bring the phone out of sleep mode, only to find the screen at 10% brightness. When I check memory, there are NO running programs, yet there is a memory allocation bar that shows 0% allocated for storage, and -122 Megs available for running programs. Only a soft-reset fixes this issue. I have disabled X-button completely (as I have heard there is a memory issue with 2.0) but since it came native to this Rom, i cannot Uninstall it.
3. Activesync keeps coming back on, draining my battery. Now I know there used to be a trick to this, but for some reason nothing I have found so far keeps activesync from restarting.
Loaded programs since Clean Upgrade:
1. Magic Button ( don't leave home without it )
2. HTC Home Plugin 2.10
3. HTC Home Customizer
4. Advance Configuration Tool
5. Sprite Backup (need that one)
6. PocketCM
7. Google maps
8. GooSync
blah blah blah..
Anyone have any ideas I'm all ears.
alltel
I have updated mine to the new rom and works perfect
i got it all working including the GPS.
I have had no lock ups, no issues at all.
Screen stays at 100%, sync works fine both in cradle and over the air
Sound is great, alarms work fine
Cant see any issues
I will be updating my daughters tomorrow and will report back if any issues but i have a ton stuff loaded on mine and all is good and she is a basic user so I am sure it iwll all be good on hers to

Thanks. Althought that doesn't "Seem" to have ANYTHING to do with activesync, I'll take your word for it. I remember with the old rom Activesync would come on after a soft-reset, but close it once and it stayed closed.
As for some of the other issues, I did find out i was using a "hermes" version of HTC Home. After installing the correct version my phone runs MUCH better.
Issues Still Present:
1. I got locked out of my phone TWICE today. I have NOT set a password (Start > Settings > Lock ... "prompt if device is unused for... " is UNchecked.)
2. I have not yet been able to get GPS working with google maps.
--Start > Settings > Phone > Services > Location Settings is set to ON.
What other software can I test GPS with.. I rarely use anything else anyway.
Thanks for the info.
Today's Report:
My phone only locked up on me (by "locked up" I mean 10% screen brightness, unresponsive app apctivation... start menu still works, but no buttons launch. After a few minutes I can activate memory usage only to find out -122Mb allocated with non left for any apps).
I thought it odd tho.. 1st lockup was at 2:15pm 2nd Lockup was at 5:15pm (3 hour coincidence).. I expected the next at 8:15 but it didn't show till 9:00 (or there abouts because I wasn't paying attention.
I DID however notice that it happened today while the phone was charging, but it HAS done this directly out of my holster, so I don't think this is a clue. This seems to be a timing issue with an application somewhere.
Good news! I only got locked out of my phone once!! So I set a password and set it to 24 hours, something that will probably NEVER happen. If I get locked out again.... I'm going to looking for a Kitchen Rom. Can't be much worse.
A couple weeks ago, I would constantly get pinged by my friends that Latitude was showing me at my apartment when I was out and about. I'd then open Maps on my phone, Latitude would update me and then my friends could confirm it now shows me in the proper place.
I JUST found out it was because leaving my Iconia on, when it does it's regular update, Latitude was putting me back where ever the tablet was. So my question is, if I set the Latitude settings to not share my location on the tablet, will this affect my phone's Latitude settings? Basically, are the Latitude privacy settings device-based, or account-based?
Anyone? I am at work right now, otherwise I'd simply try to turn it off on the tablet and just double check my phone to see if it's privacy setting had changed too...
create a second gmail account for the tablet or toggle wifi off before leaving home.
The "location reporting" setting is account level, not device level, which is pretty annoying. I've tried setting my phone to "detect your location", then setting the tablet to "do not update", and then if I look back at my phone after a few seconds it too has changed to "do not update".
I haven't found a good solution to this besides setting up a separate Google account for use in Latitude. Now that Android tablets are hitting the mainstream and the likelyhood of someone having multiple Android devices signed up with one account has gone way up, I hope Google finally takes a look at this.
Hi, maps seems to be keeping my phone awake when I lock it. I've searched this forum and I've disabled almost all the settings regarding GPS, location etc, as it seems this is what people are recommending. The only ones that I have kept enabled are 'Access my location', 'GPS Satellites' and 'Wifi & mobile network location'.
Better battery starts shows that 'NetworkLocationPassiveCollector' is giving partial wakelock.
Is there any way to stop this without turning GPS off?
Thank you
Anyone help? I've completely disabled location access, gps etc for now to see if it helps.
Mine was doing this a lot recently. I force closed the app, killed cache/data, then relaunched it and went into settings and toggled all of the stupid "track my location in the background" settings (on again, then back off). Haven't had a problem with it since.
It was sneaky about it, too. I would wake up my screen and see the GPS icon in the status bar and it would disappear right away. 20 minutes later I would wake up my phone and it would do the same thing.
Happens to me a lot also. I noticed facebook app will ping my gps occasionally unless I actually close the app out. I just turn location off unless I need it.
Hi,
I have some problems with finding my location, and I think it started since the 4.3 update, but I'm not sure.
I see it mostly with Tasker. I have some profiles for different locations (like home and college..) triggered by "net" without GPS, that is ment to turn Wifi on and off.
I noticed today when I left college, I opened the screen on the way home and I saw for a brief moment that the WiFi is still ON and my "college" profile was still activated, and immediately after that, the profile went off and also the WiFi. The Net location only triggered when I opened the screen, and it seems it thought my location was still in college until I did so.
When I got home, I opened the screen to see if it activated my "home" profile and turned on the WiFi, and nope, nada, even when opened the screen it still didn't know my location, only after I turned on the WiFi manually it knew where I am and activated the "home" profile (which in that case was already pointless)..
My guess is that on the way back from college it found my location when I opened the screen cause the WiFi was still on, and when I came back home the WiFi was off so it didn't find my location without it.
But if that's the case, then there is simply no point in those "wifi on / off" profiles if it can only find my location with WiFi.
I posted a similar thread on Tasker support group, but honestly I think it's a problem with the google's new location services.
What's that point? now we can get a good location fix only with WiFi or GPS?
and also why I must turn on the screen to "refresh" the location? isn't "net location" works on the 3g network? which is always on, so what's the problem.
By the way these network delays doesn't only happen with location, it happens alot with messaging apps, that sometimes I get the messages only when I turn on the screen. Is there a fix for that?
Sorry for throwing out so many questions without order
Thanks in advanced
same issue
Yah, I'm experiancing the same issues.
I have shut WiFi off the the settings pane and it still shows on in the battery monitor. I don't think it is using a lot of battery (hasn't shown up) but some of the stuff in the system shows WiFi usage when it is clearly shut off.
Anyone have any ideas?
Wifi scans for networks (location assist) in the background by default. Go to Settings > Location > overflow (three dots at top right) > Scanning and change the setting for Wifi/bluetooth.
Does this actually mess up location stuff though?
Mine is the same, turned of wifi scanning also.
This is an old bug from the very first lollipop release and its still in marshmallow, can't believe Google haven't fixed this basic thing. It sometimes works correctly if you turn off WiFi before you lose connection by going out of range. Or turn off WiFi and reboot, that definitely does fix it.
No kidding, a reboot after wifi was switched off worked. thanks man.

Shouldn't "mess up" location services. The wifi scanning is supposed to just help find your location more quickly and/or provide more accurate location data without GPS on.
