How do I rotate my home screen/app drawer with Paranoid Android? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Installed Paranoid Android 3.0+ and I'm trying to figure out how I can enable the home screen and app drawer to rotate. Any suggestions guys? I also don't want it to hog too many resources or have any bells or whistles with it. Just a simple app that'll let me rotate the home screen and app drawer, that will preferably launch at boot.

Is there a light launcher that does that?

Try Holo, Apex, Nova.
They are pretty light launchers. All the bells and whistles are in paid versions.

Is your rotation sensitivity good enough? I always have the problem of not being able to return to portrait mode after rotating to landscape mode; the only solution is to go back to homescreeen to return to portrait mode.

Hero Launcher - no Horizontal mode?

If I recall correctly, I played with a friend's G1 on Android 1.6, where the launcher would rotate if placed horizontally.
Why is it that it does not rotate on the Hero, whether it's a 1.5 ROM or 2.1 ROM?
Is it a Sense limitation?
Sense was not designed for landscape use, and neither was the Nexus One launcher. If you've rooted, I suggest trying Helix Launcher from the market, it's free, designed around the Nexus One launcher and does landscape nicely.

Thanks, and what's the simplest way to turn off Sense in the Fresh 2.0d ROM? I'll try out Helix.

How to fix home screen auto orientation switch lag

Hello,
I don't know if anybody know about this fix or not, but I've just found a way to fix the lag when the home screen auto-orient from landscape to portrait and vice versa: click on the + button that you use to add widgets and apps to the home screen, select any tab other than the add widget tab, go back to your home screen and that's it no more lag! I believe the left and right screen transitions are smoother as well.
I do not know if this problem/fix is specific to our tab or honeycomb as a whole, but I'm glad I found a workaround since it was really bothering me. I hope this can be useful to somebody.
Wow - that really works well; thanks!
Hmm, still a bit laggy. 3-5 seconds to re-orient due to rotation. Seems too long, IMO.
...Ok, maybe a small reduction.
Hmmm 3 to 5 secs was what I had before the fix, it's now only about 1 sec.
Do you have many widgets and use a live wallpaper perhaps?

No live wallpaper, just minimalistic text and weather widget.
I don't know why but this works perfect! I went from a whole 6 seconds for the orientation to change to near instant changes. I noticed once you choose a different tab, I have apps shortcuts chosen, if you go back into the + menu that tab is still selected. This is a strange bug but awesome. Thank you
i really didn't spend much time on the stock launcher, but launcher pro switches quickly.

I concur. The best way to get rid of the lag is to use a different launcher. Personally, I prefer ADW Launcher EX because it is "optimized" for Honeycomb, but LauncherPro is a great alternative.
I've never had more than a 1 second orientation lag. What am I doing differently?

Are they smoother? I think my biggest Honeycomb pet peeve is the choppiness when swiping to different home screens. It makes the tablet feel slow to me. I have LauncherPro on my Nexus S but Im not sure if I'd use a phone launcher on a tablet...
Strangely its working !!!!!!!!!!!!
Huh, it does work. But doesn't survive a reboot. Have to redo after reboot.
Amazing indeed! Great find! Will test on my friends thrive tomorrow too. I think that HC, for some odd reason, is caching the widget drawer on the background and it might be straining the orientation of the device. They need to have HC keep the alo or other drawer on default instead to keep his from happening every time you restart.

thanks dude work like a charm
Anybody know if there is any way we can submit a bug report to Samsung/Google?

Same here and I'm using live wallpaper. Maybe it's the ROM I have loaded?

[Q] Do you think Google will rotate the home screen?

Just got my Nexus 7 today and it's awesome, except for the home screen not rotating? Do you think Google will release an update to fix it or will we have to rely on a third party app?

Third party app is the best way to go.
Download Rotation Locker its free if you want Landscape
Use Nova Launcher. Not only is it awesome, but it does home screen rotation.

Yes, it is great.
Auto-rotate wasn't enabled to begin with so I had to go to Nova Settings--Look and feel--Screen Orientation and select it (just pointing it out to save people a few seconds )
Also, the My Library widget is still usable (I'm not familiar with ICS/JB launchers, so maybe other launchers support it as well?).

Didn't work for me on the N7.
Rotation locker works great. allows any setup you want based on how you holding it.
I'm a fan of Nova Launcher and that is what I'm using to rotate the home screen.

But you have to change the settings when you change how you are holding it, right?

No you don't have to. Just select the Forced Auto option and it rotates everything just fine. The only down side is it doesn't rotate lock screen.

Hmmph, that did not seem to work for me when I tested it last night.
I used the widget to select "auto" - is there another way to do it?
ETA: ahhhh... a long press did the trick, not a short press. Thanks!

Knock On with 3rd Party Launcher

I tried using apex launcher and could not find a way to continue to utilize the knock on feature. Has anyone else had luck with this?

Assume you mean to turn screen off as turning it on should work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441027
Use the gesture of apex launcher with double tap at home screen and combine it with any app that have ability to turn off the screen. I used GMD combine with apex and it works great

Forced Landscape rotation?

Can anybody tell me a landscape rotation app that is compatible with the note 3 touchwiz. Because in home screen when in forced landscape mode using apps from playstore, the proportion is bugged.

Oh thank gawd! I'm not the only one! I too am having this issue (tmus) and posted that question today there:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2590080
Basically I was using "Ultimate Rotation Control" and it works great on all my previous galaxies but on the Note 3 it looks like the icon and widgets are trying to stay in a forced portrait mode. However my background image looks fine, go figure.
However you can change your launcher to GoLauncher and that should work for you just fine. I prefer GoLauncher myself because it has a calendar widget that none of the other launchers seem to have.
Hopefully the makers of URC fix their app because its not working now.
Not to my knowledge.
If you change to Apex, Nova or another launcher, though, you'll have that as an option amongst plenty of others... Not to mention less resource usages.
