If I recall correctly, I played with a friend's G1 on Android 1.6, where the launcher would rotate if placed horizontally.
Why is it that it does not rotate on the Hero, whether it's a 1.5 ROM or 2.1 ROM?
Is it a Sense limitation?
Sense was not designed for landscape use, and neither was the Nexus One launcher. If you've rooted, I suggest trying Helix Launcher from the market, it's free, designed around the Nexus One launcher and does landscape nicely.

Thanks, and what's the simplest way to turn off Sense in the Fresh 2.0d ROM? I'll try out Helix.

Is there a way to turn off sense or maybe install APK's to replace the crapware. I'd like to get the standard android Contacts app instead of this pain to use sense version.
Thanks for and information, I'll be eagerly awaiting root and CM5
I also want to remove the UI tmobile has placed on it.
Just want android 2.1 vanialla or with htc sense
You can always choose a launcher program. helix launcher, adw launcher, and launcherpro are the 3 best. I use adw launcher. helix is the only one in the market right now, the others you have to get apk file. adw launcher has the apk on their website now since google is haveing market issues. This will give you a great stock-like experience and can be customized a little beyond stock which is nice but you don't have to if you want it very stock.
there is a way to sort of remove sense but once you do it i dont know if you can get it back without hard reseting it. Go to settings/applications/manage applications then find htc sense click on it then clear the memory after that push the home key and it should give you the option to pick the regular android launcher.
disclaimer this worked on older versions of sense ie the 1.5 based heros have not tried on the slide yet

Actually it does, it resets your quicklinks or shortcuts on your screen.
EDIT:
If you changed your homepage from the default 5 screen to 7 and did the procedure mentioned above, your homepage will revert back to 5 screens even if you changed your settings in the "Personalize" to 7 pages. I tried it on mine just to see the effect and ended up hard resetting my device to get it back to actually seeing 7 screens. Please correct me if it's only me, a bug or if anyone has a better solution than doing a hard reset.
This is my first time using Sense. Is there a way to rotate the home screen so that it's in landscape format?

turn the phone to landscape and the home page will turn to landscape, too, same as all android phones.

I'll get my Mytouch tomorrow UPS... but in my Evo you can go to settings/display and put a check in the box "auto-rotate screen." I've only had 3 androids and they all do the same thing. I hope the MT4G is a lot different!
He...he...he... That's kind of why I'm asking the question cause on the G1 it was automatic when you flip the phone. I can't seem to do that on this phone even when the auto-rotate is already set.

Gosh, does this phone have an accelerometer? That's what causes it to know when you switch directions.
yes, it auto-rotates just fine when you're in an app. I just can't seem to rotate the home screen to landscape mode. I've tried.
Geez guyz!!! it's mytouch Sense and stock ROM! What are you talking about?

well, don't take my word for credit, but as far as I know home screen in Sense doesn't have landscape view unless custom ROM.
ugh... darn. There goes that... so begins the waiting game for a custom rom

My evo with HTC sense has landscape in the homescreen. all apps and the clock turn to landscape and the dock goes to the right side of the screen but all apps in the dock turn to landscape.

That's correct. mySense doesn't have landscape view, but when in apps it will turn to landscape. If you want landscape on your home screen you'll need to root and install a custom rom (once available), or install a launcher replacement from the Market such as LauncherPro or ADW which do have landscape view for home.

OK, my mistake... SENSE doesn't have landscape on the home screen. I forgot I was running LauncherPro so after reading this, I logged back into sense and yep, it's portrait only... I never noticed that. I guess because I spent so little time running sense. But I may never have noticed because I never go to landscape while on the home pages, and I don't see any reason to? The only time I use landscape is when I'm typing, watching movies, and when I'm in web pages. Why would you want to be in landscape on your home screen?

Because I have a stand that I put the phone on and it fits snugly in landscape mode. I want it to behave as if it's in a dock.
Since I came from a rooted phone, I didn't know if that ability was present in stock sense.
Is there anyone running a GB build with a homescreen that rotates to landscape? So far I have tried 2 builds and neither worked. It was suggested to TRY adw ex but since its a pay app, Id like to get some feedback that it worked before i buy it.

YES I used the search feature before posting. Searched for "launcher" and "rotate".

So no one has a rotating home screen using Gingerbread? Im just asking for confirmation from someone.
I am using MDJ's CyanogenMod 7 v. 2.5 and mine works just fine.
I am using this as well, (MDJ's CyanogenMod 7 v. 2.5) and landscape works just fine, even with the non ex, free ADW.
I'm using NexusHD2 Gingerbread v2 and it works fine as well. I'm not using the stock launcher though - I use Launcher Pro (I use the paid version for extra features, but there is a free one).
If your using: ADW Launcher, Go to it's Settings / UI Settings / Screen Preferences / Home Orientation: Auto/sensor
That gets it to rotate into Landscape.
auto rotate home?
i got pure gingerbreak cwm 1.9 i think and i cant get it to rotate to landscape on the home screen or the launcher either ....i scoured the settings all i could find is auto rotate and it was already checked
or try imilkas rom it works perfectly.

Auto Rotation does not work on stock launcher. Use an alternative such as LauncherPro or ADW launcher to get the rotation feature.
Well, I this bought this cellphone a few months ago, and today I tryed a new Launcher. In the Android Market I downloaded the Launcher Pro (free version) and the Zeam Launcher.
So, after install they, I long-pressed in TouchWiz homescreen and selected the "Actives", with a home icon. I selected this and appeared a black screen. I just used 'back' button and for my surprise the TouchWiz was in landscape view!
I don't know at all, but isn't possible, right?
Now, everytime I put the phone on horizontal in TW the screen become in landscape.
It's a bug or it's normal?
P.S.: And sorry for my english lol

I installed the launchers, just it.
I think Launcher Pro caused this.
Installed Paranoid Android 3.0+ and I'm trying to figure out how I can enable the home screen and app drawer to rotate. Any suggestions guys? I also don't want it to hog too many resources or have any bells or whistles with it. Just a simple app that'll let me rotate the home screen and app drawer, that will preferably launch at boot.

Try Holo, Apex, Nova.
They are pretty light launchers. All the bells and whistles are in paid versions.

Is your rotation sensitivity good enough? I always have the problem of not being able to return to portrait mode after rotating to landscape mode; the only solution is to go back to homescreeen to return to portrait mode.
