Hi to all^^
I'd like to ask you some idea I had right now. What if everyone of us, who really wants great movies-playback on their HD would pay 50$ for the drivers to Corecodec, so that they can buy the drivers from Qualcomm? I would do this... I mean, how much could such a driver cost? I don't think more than 1000$... And this would be "only" 20 persons, I mean hey, this is possible!! Of course, than would be a special version of the Coreplayer only for the ones that paid this 50$.. And if its not possible, than everyone would get his money back, of course! I don't know, but I really, really want this driver and I can't imagine that only because some kb I can't play movies just like that, putting them directly on my HD.. Please, tell me what you think about.. Many greez, cad^^
Why not make this into a poll?
Yes for me.
Yes - although from some videos I've seen on Youtube with DivX and Mp3 audio encoding, the videos seem fine.

Yes, thats right, I saw that too, but too many here complain about the bad movie-playback, so I think thats the truth. I trust more in the members here than in any tests that are not representative enough for me. And our members say that in practical use, you connot just take a normal divx/xvid-movie and put it without thinking on your HD. THATS what I want!! And for that, I would pay without even thinking 50$, its worth for me. So, I just want to see if I'm the only one or not, and if not, then I really want to try this.. So, thanks for your responses!!!^^ greez, cad
Nice idea!
But dont you think the price would be closer to 10'000$ rather than 1'000$, dont you think?
I mean to buy all the licences that are necessary and to pay the work to developp/test/release them.
I would also donate to get the development started but I fear the cost will be much higher than we expect (or maybe try to do a open-source driver if the infos for it are available?)
Ascenca
definitely i would
I would (probably...)
BUT - whatever method is used to collect / pay for / develop / distibute, you can guarentee that within about 5 mins of it being released to those who paid for it, it would mysteriously appear somewhere for free download.
Which is a bit naffing off it you have paid £5 / £10 towards development costs - and VERY naffing off if you paid £50.
Not wanting to get this thread decending into file sharing issues though!
But yes, I would pay an amount to get round the whole re-encoding thing

Oh, do you think? Thats indeed much too much I mean, I don't want to pay for everyone, just the ones who pay this 50$, get the driver. Would that be possible? So I think it is enough to pay 50$ for the driver and if we are at least 20, we could ask if its possible.. The HD could be such a great multimedia device and it hurts me that its not only because of a few kb text... But please have in mind, I'm not either from qualcomm, either from htc and this was just an funny idea I had now!!! For me, this solution would be great... But I absolutely don't know if that would work but my hope dies very late many greez, your cad^^
Edit: @ TTDegs: yes, thats what I think about too, and this is a major problem. I don't know how to prevent filesharing in this case, because of course you and all of us would be angry if others get it just "for free", only because we paid for it.. But otherwise, for me its really worth paying 50$ for that and I personally don't care if anybody else get it after my payment for free. But I can understand it that most of us would be very angry about this.. And I have to admit, I don't have a solution for this I'm sorry...:'(
Well I have to mention that I am not sure if it is like I said, but I only guess that software development isnt always cheap. Would have to investigate a little to get a real price to do something like that.
Is there no software developer in this forum who could estimate the real value of such a project?
Ascenca
No need to apologise cadenza - there are a LOT of people paid a LOT of money to try and prevent illegal copying / distribution of various kinds of files, but people still get round it!
HOPEFULLY adding the codecs / drivers (or whatever it takes) is something which some of the very clever people in here can resolve (though from comments so far on the subject that might not be straight forward ) - in which case I'd be more than happy to donate to that
I'd really much rather pay someone in here over paying some faceless set of people at HTC / Coreplayer / Qualcomm
I'd pay. You should add a poll here to allow an easier 'show of opinion'.

Considering the parties involved I think it would require a LOT of $50 contributions to get this done. Would be nice if they did it off their own backs.
Just as an example, I run an online business in the UK, do most of the coding and admin work myself, if we need extra hands it's anything from £200 - £450 per day!! ($300 - $700)

Ok, me too!!! The point is, I would pay 50$ for bringing this project forward, for being able to play normal movie-files totally fluid on the HD. I'm not asking for HD-movies, of course, but I want just to play normal movies with datarates until 1.5Mbps absolutely fluid. And I understood that its from the hardware no problem, so I want to bring this step to light! Because of that, who can I donate this, to note this project? For me, I'd like also much more to donate this money here to a very good developer if he needs this money for developing than to qualcomm, but I don't know who can do this. The point is that I can't develop myself and I'm ready to pay 50$ for anyone who can prevent me from converting anymore with very good playback! So, who can do this?? I want to be one little "sponsor". And I hope I'm not the only one I hope that together we can manage to have our dreams on this piece of beauty^^ many greez, cad

@ Philio25: thats not so good news.. But do you think it would be possible to program such a driver in one day? Oh, I already see, my dream is cracking... because I thought we can "buy" this driver and just install it for the processor.. I mean, what can you do with hardware, which you cannot use?.. I'm so sad....

LOL - was doing some digging, and came back in here to post up that very thread!
cheers for finding it first
I did find this too though http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/01/22/htc-chimes-in-on-video-driver-controversy/ which was an overview of the debate on previous HTC models.
WARNING some of the replies in their use language which may offend, and may trigger works profanity filters.
So don't go there if you're worried about that sort of thing!
For those not wanting to read the whole thing, this is a snippet (apparently) from an official HTC response from Jan this year:
"HTC believes the overall value of its devices based on their combination of functionality and connectivity exceeds their ability to play or render high-resolution video. These devices do still provide a rich multimedia experience comparable to that of most smartphones and enable a variety of audio and video file formats," reads the official response, in part. Furthermore, the company has officially confirmed that Imageon drivers are not in use on the affected devices, but that it "plans to include video acceleration hardware in future video-centric devices that will enable high-resolution video support."

Good to see that it obviously classes the HD as a "future video-centric device" then...

Sorry, but where does it mention the Touch HD in the press release?
Definately a YES for me...
I'm looking for a small gamepad that connects via bluetooth or usb cable to the Galaxy S for the purpose of playing NES/SNES/Genesis roms. Does anyone know if something like this exists?
Any WiiMote should work.

You here to make the biggest announcement since this phone came out?
Last I checked Wiimotes weren't working due to the change in the Bluetooth stack...
Wiimotes SHOULD work once CM6 comes out, but until then I'm not sure. maybe a PS3 controller? but that's a bit complex and not pocketable haha
I can't tell you when Ryan Frawley is going to release a 3.0 wiimote (or if our vibrants will somehow become able to use the old version) but I can say that in the meantime I have an idea as to how to construct something to tie them together like a PSP.
I have seen others using GPS holders and stuff to the same effect, this just seems like it would be a little less akward to use, so long as you can get your phone released in time to answer a call (or just use a bluetooth, heh).
Attached is a picture of the idea I had, anyone that wants to make it happen is free to. No patents or anything here.
Wiimote does not work on the Vibrant. Works wonderful on the N1.

Why do you think wiimotes will start working with CM6. The hardware in this phone is different than every other Android phone on the planet. This is Bluetooth 3.0. Is CM6 going to downgrade it to 2.1?
According to this post the Zeemote works with the psx emulator. I don't knowif it will work with the nes/snes ones or not. I don't know how well it works as a remote either, just remember reading about this the other day when I saw your post an thought I'd share.
http://android.modaco.com/content/s...mote-works-on-psx4droid-with-gamepro-drivers/
ziimote should work.
otherwise im waiting for CM6 to come out, then im planning on making a slimmer/lighter wiimote.
Based on the view count of this thread, someone could make a lot of Benjamins if they patented, designed, and produced a pint-sized gampad with bluetooth that would work with the Galaxy S. I wish I had the money or I'd do it myself because whoever does could make some hefty cabbage. I know I'd be first in line to buy one...I can't stand the on-screen controls for the emulators, but they are better than nothing at all of course.
Now this is worth a look. Anyone try it out on the Galaxy S?

What about mounting it like this guy did:
Well, since I'm a new user, it won't let me post the URL or picture, but I want to give credit where credit is due.... it's over at PPCgeeks forum. Thread number 129886. or search for "DIY - Custom Evo Gaming Mount! (**Wiimote**/SNES/NES/etc.)"

ROFL that's an awesome idea! Great find! I will definately have to try that, its much cheaper and easier since there are hundreds of those plastic wheels running around.
Its not a hardware problem, its software. Samsung put proprietary bluetooth stack in their version of android they loaded on the galaxy s phones. Its imcompatible, it doesnt support the bluetooth mode that the gamepads need to operate properly. thats why using a vanilla rom, or a rom that utilizes the stock google bluetooth stack (like CM6) works fine.
derek how do we know that? did you take touchwiz off your phone?
i think its a little deeper than that... we can ask eugene tho... he is building a 2.1 stock rom on his phone... we could ask him to try to hook up a wiimote

I'd donate a few bucks as well if I could get my wiimote working on my vibrant. It's not about the lack of physical keyboard either, as I hated using the keyboard on my g1 to play emulators. You don't get the same feel nor same fun factor on anything but a controller made for gaming.

But does anyone know if it would be possible porting psgroove to android, I'm not asking if it has been done just if it is possible.

Yeah this would be really great. I do know an iPhone version is being worked on.
I hope someone manages to do it, the phones should be more than capable of running it aslong as the software has control over the USB port. Although I think it should be possible since I've seen software to make your phone a USB host for nexus and desire.

I find it strange that he is asking for donations for an ipod/iphone when he hasnt finished the android port first, seems fishy but i am hoping for the best and waiting.

After extensive google search I have came my personal opinion (everyone has one) that this will happen in the future. The software used to make this is open source. Since android is based off of open source somebody will be able to make this happen. I personaly am not smart enough to do this. I see a lot of sites promoting this to happen with jailbroken iphones in the "near future" more but for it to happen with android phones is very proberble as well

He just posted this:
I've been working pretty hard through this. I will be taking a few hours to sleep now. Your comments may not appear for several hours because of this. I'm not sure what the rest of the team is planning to do. Chances are they will also be taking a break for a few hours.
Beta for Iphone is open now. Beta release in the next week +- 3 days.
Beta for android is still open but we will be closing it soon
$15 will get you into the beta for sure. Others may or may not be selected given the large amount of applications. So your best way in is to donate.
A video will be released within the next few days. of both the iOS port and the Android port.
Those who do donate may not receive confirmation for a while. But we will try our best.
Donate button is on the top right for those who have been asking.
Thanks for understanding that people have to sleep

I made this comment on his previous post, but he did not approve it:
Ok, I'm starting to loose my faith that you are actually doing something. Time to show some proof. In all of your posts you didn't say anything technical about your progress. What did you accomplish so far? What are your main issues right now? You've been wasting more time asking for donation than in actual development. As for your screenshots, anyone with basic Android coding skills could make an Activity with buttons triggering Toasts in less than 10 min. Where is the video you promised?
AND FOR THE REST OF YOU FOLKS:
I can't believe there so many people dumb enough to give this guy money without him actually delivering anything useful.

I have the i'm Watch (imwatch.it) I thought in buying the Sony one. But now that the have released the Sideload Manager and it now accepts a least to the best of my knowledge, Android 1.6 apps and have installed and run Angry Birds, Dolphin Browser, Opera Mini, all seem to work fine, and saw the awful Browser for the Sony, I am really no longer so sure.
If one could install, any software like in the I'm Watch into the Sony one, I will probably be buying the Sony soon. If there are limitations, probably not.

It's cheaper than the I'm watch. You can find them on ebay for between $50 and $200. I don't think that's a reason.
Although, the root tool I developed for it has been downloaded over 11,000 times now, so apparently it's being used quite a bit lol. I just want more of you guys to recognize its awesomeness.

Ah yes! I need to add the metawatch! The rock watch is on ebay, and I think on amazon too. I can't remember who makes it, but the real world battery life is not so great, from my understanding. Still, it looks neat lol. I will complete my chart tonight if I'm able, with all their features, such as wifi, gps, vibration function, etc. I'll also try to add pictures. If you guys know if any of those prices are wrong, let me know? I tried to find retail prices for them but had problems.

Thanks for the comparisons. If I had known fhat tye motoactv was rooted with custom ROMs, I might have not bought the I'M Watch.
Here, check it out now:
Smart Watch Spec Comparison
I've added a LOT. I've still got to add the WIMM One watch and the MetaWatch though.
UPDATE: 3/11 - Added the WIMM One and MetaWatch. If anything is wrong, some places contradicted information, so please let me know!
Motoactv FTW! Runs on Android 2.3.4, runs a plethora of smart phone apps, and it's not hideously under-powered.

Good info! I have to point out though that the Motoactv runs on Android 2.3.4 (unless they updated it in the latest firmwares)

No prob. That's a great comparison chart, very informative!
I just realise Max 2 have Learning Remote. This is crazy. For USD200 and come with universal learning remote + 6gb ram + 64gb UFS2.0 + 2K screen, the feature is getting better !!!
This is old news man... It's a nice feature btw, maybe it'll be used, maybe not, but the price is very good for the specs.

Seriously, I don't think that having a remote, learning or not, is the most important thing in a cell phone. In the case of Le Max 2, I'd gladly trade the remote for a working fingerprint, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. That said, having a remote with a learning function in a smartphone is a neat feature.

It is a nice feature, if it had no troubles with fingerprint it would be much more expensive. And you can fix it like for 10$ (7$ on aliexpress) and some skill like I did.
This is part of LeEco's ecosystem. They used to make Smart TVs.
The downside is that regular IR control apps does not works unless you install the Xposed module, which works only on Marshmallow.

That's a pity. Maybe it's time to notify the developer, to see if he can make the module work on Android N. Maybe he's already aware of it, but you never know
