Finally Low incall volume issue in X8 has been FIXED.
Those who are facing the same issue in all CM7 ROMs, kindly use the following link and replace libaudio.so using root manager under the path \system\lib. And reboot your X8.
Great work

actually FXP made that file and not the person who made that post. it was pulled from a rom.
actually he never said that it was his work so he cannot be blamed for showing somebody else's work as his own. but it is the same file. but he wrote "Finally Low incall volume issue in X8 has been FIXED." and that is wrong..it was fixed long time ago. no need to make another thread for what is already provided in the rom thread itself. the best that can be done is that you add credits to FXP team

by the way you may also want to try this, it's the htc tones with increased volume levels, just flash it from recovery...... i hope you choke on it

Is it really nessesary to flash and what not? I just bumped up the volume of the tones I like in Audacity and copied it back on to SD. Now my volume is “normal”.

Without a kernel that gives a volume boost I find most of the times myself in a situation where I can't hear the person when on a call. With the new kernel (thanks Lee ) it's how it should be, I'm happy
I believe based on a few testers' results that I have fixed this at a kernel level. I had tried this kernel fix originally back when this first happened but I didn't boost the values high enough to make a difference in testing, so thanks to tiamat for more precise values. I have tweaked the values to be louder than my previous kernel, you might notice a slight crackle and likely need to turn down one slot at the highest setting now if you never had volume issues, the highest slots are for people that seem to have more serious volume issues. If this works for people I'll get it merged into the cm mecha msm7x30 kernel.
If this works or doesn't work, PLEASE post specifically and accurately, this can only get better if I get feedback. Please also read the OP fully, there are a lot of questions being asked towards the back pages of this thread that could easily be answered with 2 seconds of reading. As always, you can find me in #slayher on freenode if you want to give more specific feedback or scenarios.

Right now this is a temporary workaround until something more elegant can get merged into the source but I need to spend more time with it. The test users I gave this out to reported better volume in: backspeaker, earpiece and headphone jack. Since this has worked with a few people I'm going to post it here and see how it works for others. I don't personally have low audio on CM7 so testing of this was done by a few affected users so thanks to those who tested it, especially syco; and also slayher and jcase as well.
INFO:
1) CM7 rc0.4 is required (this post will be updated if new versions come out)
2) A system nandroid should be taken, this updates a file in system.
3) This is a hack, all the tests done had good results but be aware of this fact. Use at your own risk.

Thanks for the feedback guys, it is helpful and greatly appreciated. A few users have told me that the volume in-call still wasn't loud enough, so I cooked up a 'this goes to 11' version. Users should ONLY flash this if their headset isn't loud enough with the normal version and this should be considered very experimental. I am putting this out there due to demand but you should turn down your volume before flashing this second hack should you need it. You have been warned
Thanks to samsuck for testing this.

Considering people on this forum have a problem reading (as evidenced by the same 5 questions asked 300 times in the CM7 thread) I decided to make it more noticeable, sorry for the inconvenience.
This worked great for me too. However, my screen lock sounds are now virtually non-existant. I can barely hear them and tried looking through other settings to try and make them louder, but can't seem to. I guess it fixed one problem and broke another.
Flashed through Recovery and now I'm getting a bootloop

Is audio manager something available in the market? I am on gengeritis but would love to have something to boost my volume, specifically on speaker phone. It kills me to not be able to use it while in the car. If I can get much louder volume with this I might just have to wipe and flash CM7.
For some reason my in call audio only seems slightly louder. Everything else is definitely louder though. Is there something you can tweak to make in call volume louder?

Hi I just read about this DSP manager thing and have a couple questions:
1) Does this work with Xperia X8?
2) Are there any other methods for having a louder sound on the X8's speaker?
My wife is really pissed with this phone's speaker level, she used to have a W580 and I modded it, so it was a really loud phone, and the X8 is falling behind the old one... only good thing is I might get the X8 and give her back the W580 LOL
thanks in advance!!!

DSPManager works perfectly in J008 (in J009 has got some bugs).
If you want it to work properly, you need libaudioflinger.so and libaudio.so compatible with DSPManager
Maybe it will work also in froyobread after dx finishes the theme engine I guess dsp manager is next on list

port DSP manager in ROM gigger jeperela (the best sound)..
but if ROM 2.2, ROM colinux thebest sound cuz DSP manager ported from gigger jeperela
Absolutely true from dare-devil inside...this DSP manager is not working on 2.2 rom...only can run on some custom rom on 2.3 gingerbread..dont try to run it on 2.2...might ruin your speaker here..
Volume boost
Thanks for all your comments, I will try Volume Boost and report here how things go!!!
Edit: No change whatsoever on speaker volume. I guess she'll have to live with it...
I recently installed GingerDX V009 ROM to my GF's X8 and it includes DSP Manager and works like a charm.
This thread can now be closed.
This mod will fix the following things:
- Inverted volume keys during a call
- Better sound adjustment during a call (before sound was either too high or too low)
- External speaker (no more distorted sound)
Follow this steps to install:
1) Make a backup in CWM
2) Download the zip and place it on your SD card
3) Flash zip in CWM
4) Wipe cache and Dalvik cache
5) Reboot

If there's any improvement with the sound quality I can't tell. Before I applied your fix I had the following problem (I believe several others had it too) when I made a call the in-call volume was very high and if I tried to decrease it the volume became very low, there was no option in between and the only way to go back to the high sound was to reboot. Now there is no such problem and I'm happy. There is no sound distortion nor the sound has become more clear. But as I said no more pointless reboots required
Ok now we know that this fix works in MiniCM10 too
I did some test today in MiniCM9 and it seems that there is no more distorted sound with this fix (sound is now like it was in gingerbread roms). I noticed this while watching youtube videos.
This doesn't fix the external speaker, huh ?
Sent from my E15i using xda premium
For me external speaker works better than before and i noticed the difference when setting ringtone volume. Without this fix i had to keep ringtone volume to the minimum because sound was too loud; now i can increase volume to the level that i used to use in MiniCM7 without sound distorsion, so for me external speaker is fixed (i'm using MiniCM9, don't know if it's the same in MiniCM10).
EDIT: I changed thread name and description so now it should be more clear
I don't have a problem on the Mini CM10, but then again I didn't have a problem before

I did some test in MiniCM10 and i can say that in-call volume seems better, volume keys are fixed but the sound of the external speaker remains the same (still too loud). I'll try to find a solution to completely fix audio, but keep in mind that this bug will be fixed in the next release of MiniCM10, so just use it in MiniCM9 for now

I didn't take this libs JB Mini Project (i haven't downloaded your roms yet because i'm using MiniCM9) ...i mixed libs which i have on my pc and after many tries i found the working libs...i really didn't know that these libs are from JB Mini Project and i'm sorry for posting without giving credits
If you want I make a fixed lib for minicm10. Not require use mixed libs, but the headset recognition not working... in the ics lib source only need change farfield to farfield_headset and change the voice volume value to *5 and add vol = vol + 1; line. So the incall volume is goof, external speaker good, but headset not recognised. I dont know how to fix it...

@Daveee10 I'm sorry but i don't know much about developing so i can't help
I've been running OmniRom with PA full modular gapps for a while. Currently on 03/05 nightly w/Franco 203.
I use Viper4Android to adjust my headphones and speaker levels.
I have been having extremely low in call volume since 4.4 and I can't figure out why. No one seems to have an issue. I've played with adjustments in Franco's app as well as settings in Viper but it doesn't help. My music sounds great though and voice calls put on speaker are very loud and clear. It's just the handset speaker that's really low.
Previously on my Sensation, I could make edits TPA2051_CFG_XC.csv that would help. And in the Nexus 5 forums I see you can edit mixer_paths.xml to help as well but when I look at the Nexus 4's mixer_path, there isn't a line to adjust handset volume.
Is there a file I could edit to adjust my in call volume? Or any other way to fix this?
Edit: Forgot to include, I use hybrid radio 33-98 for LTE. I've tried other regular and hybrid radios as well and that hasn't helped.
I wonder how helpful this would be for you, but I faced problems with in-call earpiece volume. I had to connect my headphones, call a number, maximize the volume, remove headphones and re-test the volume without headphones. Apparently, I had noticed that it mixed settings of both the profiles - with headphones & without headphones.

Amogh

Just tried it a few times. No go for me. Volumes for with and w/out headphones are at max. I tried lowering one and the other. Or raising them at different intervals. Still didn't help.
Thanks for trying though.
I actually have the same problem right now. I tired using a flash able zip. Which I have no idea where it is now but all it did was completely disable touch for me. I never tried ViperX but I'll keep snooping around and see what works for me and let you know

Nope. Sorry. I don't think many people are having issues. It might be hardware related but I haven't done a full format to test anything new out.
I update to the newest nightly like once a month and I don't make very many calls so it hasn't been detrimental to me yet.
I haven't seen anyone bring it up in the Omni thread though so I'm certain either a clean start should do the trick or it's hardware related and you'll need an RMA.
Hope you find a resolution for your issue! I'll definitely post something here if I ever figure it out on my end.
Same issue here. Occasionally I've fixed it between kernel or Rom flashing, but never found out what I did to fix and when I'd flash again it would go back to bad quality again. Sometimes I have to stick a finger in one ear and press the phone hard into the other ear to hear anybody

I'm a bit hesitant to flash something for the S3 onto the N4. Plus, the file in that zip you're referring to isn't one that's contained on the N4 in that directory.
