Screen - I quite use to the viewing angle already --- just sometimes I notice the white turn to slightly yellowish at bottom part when not in straight view. The screen never washed out for me. Mine was Sharp panel, you can check your panel here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2182432
White Balance - It was slightly warm by default, highly recommended install the ZL White Balance Control which let you tune the screen much better. Now my screen was correct white balance after change the setting to Saturation 9.0 and Hue 215. Get it here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190293
Loud Speaker - The origin bundle is too low volume and hissing sound if using dance song as ringtone. This problem can be solved after install the great PureXAudio mod. Get it here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190558
Bundle earpiece - Origin sound was a bit flat due to no bass, again using PureXAudio with setting of PureXHiClarity + Surround sound (VPT) as Studio, now it sound strong bass with clear vocal clarity. Edit: v11 just out and it was even much awesome, now I only use PureXHiClarity setting.
Heat - It really heat when playing games and watching movie. When I checking the temperature, it actually quite similar with my previous S III, more heat feel probably due to it slimmer design.
UI Smoothness - It was pretty smooth, but I believe it still can be much improve especially opening the Phone still can notice slightly less smooth on animation. But this was far far better than my previous S III already.
UI Design - I highly recommended flash the DoCoMo edition which change gray notification and navigation bar to awesome black + 10 toggles in notification bar instead of default 5 toggles. Also the extra useful add-on of Close all option at Recent Apps. Get it here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2202383
Launcher Design - It was pretty and nice, but miss the Infinite scroll in Launcher and App drawer, also it will be much better if it remember your current page at App Drawer.
Performance - I just compare with my friend Note II, both phone seems open same apps constantly.
Browser performance in Chrome - This is the happy part I try every website by clicking simultaneously, every website load much faster in my Xperia Z than Note II.
Camera - It was clear but less sharpen in details and noticeable over noise filter processing but still ok. Hope future Sony can improve the camera apps. Less processing, high quality jpg setting, or at least let user choose jpg quality preferences.
Small Apps - I much prefer this small apps compare with Samsung Multi-Windows which I find Multi-Windows still useless even in 5" screen. Recommended install the Small Torch, you can find it here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190508
Bravia Engine 2 - This is a great enhancement especially watching video, I not so like in image as sometimes I find it over vivid + whatever nicer you seen at album change when apply as wallpaper, I use QuickPic at the moment. Also, too bad Bravia Engine 2 never work in 3rd party apps, I do hope it get options to tick forever on, or at least let me use it at main launcher wallpaper part.
Navigation Bar - Default 48dpi is quite waste space, I use 36dpi version, get it here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2202383. Also I use fullscreen+ to set specific apps, especially all games run in full screen without navigation bar, this app is awesome and I find it much better than LMT. Buy it here - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...jcmVlblBsdXMiXQ.
Bootloader - This is the tricky one, and I not welcome Sony idea, once you unlocked it you will forever missing the Bravia Engine feature. I know Sony did this basically was prevent user leak out and aware the special setting did by Sony. I don't want to miss this as I find it well optimize for video output, which means I can't unlocked it. This do make some difficulties to me at least for now where I can't try any custom kernel.
Root - I recommended root as all features/enhancement to make your Xperia Z much better and great do required Root. Root won't lost the Bravia Engine 2 feature as long you never unlocked the bootloader. I use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2186368 root tools, latest version is 1.0.2 where you can get it from official Japan site - http://blog.huhka.com/2013/03/root-xperia-...rootingkit.html
Did I regret buying Xperia Z ? - Definitely not.

lots of good info/links in here
thanks

Awesome info, thanks.

I like how you post links for every solution. There are a lot of threads with what people like and not, but sometimes others missing links to specific app/edit for making XZ better

Epic review is epic, gonna try some of these mods

A lot of effort done, been searching for things and found them here, thanx a million!

Nice review, and with the solutions for all the issues... I have one question tought, that flashlight widget on the lock screen comes with the official rom?

Nope, I get from others ROM and push in.

Add-on:
I just notice something!
Increasing the saturation on White Balance control (for root user that install this feature getting from ZL) will eventually gain better viewing angle!
I just increase my saturation up to 18 and Hue 200. It was much better viewing angle now and more vivid. (not over saturate). I notice the maximum saturation can push up to 18 only, as it will start blueish if you continue push over.

[new release] VJLumos II - SuperBrite screen

Guys,
I've finally updated VJLumos after about 6 months.

It's Magician only for now. You can test it on your Universal but I haven't implemented disabling it for now, so you'll have to soft reset when you're finished. I'll finish this later. But it will give you a brighter Universal too
This software will give you a superbrite screen. That's brighter then normal maximum brightness.
It also has an option to be installed so that it's enabled on startup and automatically every time you switch on.
Let me know how you get on. And don't forget to donate if you find it helpful
Remember to disable it before starting the camera! It may cause a soft reset in these circumstances.
Check it out on my website.
V
Hi,
thanks, can you make it to have a white screen so that it can be brighter?
Thanks
Make it brighter then VJLumos II (superbrite)?
I don't think so.. at least I don't know how to
V
Brighter as in, a white screen is brighter than a screen with icons or dark background. So, if you are make the screen white (totally), it will definately be brighter.
So make the screen totally white, like a torch app?
Sure, I've done that by accident a million times! Doing it for an app would be an improvement.
I think on Modaco there's a free torch app that will do the same, but you could just keep a small (1x1 pixel) jpg on your phone, view it with a photo app and zoom in until it fills the screen.
Do you really need an app to just make the screen blank?
V
PS It appears that VJLumos II won't soft reset your phone even if you enter the camera, so it might be even happier then I described.. let me know how you get on.

I would prefer a instant ON, with white screen, rather than to have to expand the pixel. And yes, turning on the camera with your program on does not cause soft-reset.
@vijay555: Do you still use the camera app or have you IDA'd your own way?
I'm asking coz I don't have the camera (hardware) installed and are wondering whether it works now for me.
Chatty - it doesn't use the camera app anymore, but it does still use hardware tricks based in the camera hardware to make the screen brighter. I couldn't say if it works on your system, I'm not sure how much hardware you removed.
Try it and tell us. But I'm not optimistic
V
It does nothing. So there's room for improvement 8)
Anyone noticed any documented effects on battery life?
It's super bright, it must be draining juice quickly. But it's worth it I think
V
Definitely sucks up battery life.
Finds my mini screen display "shivering" too.
Using PocketLCD to convert screen to white before activating your program. Waiting for you to have the white screen function.
hi
thanks again for this app. For the camera it's ok even with vjlumos loaded but when you close the camera it close vjlumos. Not a problem for me but just to let you know. I have a magician
regards

I'm using a Charmer (very similar to Magician), its in the factory now getting the speaker repair, will test out your program. Anyway, in most cases, I find the brightness of the device is good enough for most conditions. As a matter of fact, I'm using the lowest possible brightness. However, I do want to sometimes, use the phone as a torchlight. To do so, I will need to
Start -> Setting -> Backlight -> Brightest -> Ok
Start -> Explorer -> Find my JPG file -> Zoom Zoom Zoom
So, it would be nice to have a little program called.. vjTorch? I can call up
Start -> vjTorch
which will give me a full white screen (or some other colours - via option settings) and automatically full brightness (for cases like mine that I like to have the screen on minimal brightness)
... and vjTorch even remembers the old setting, so that "vjTorch -off" switches back to them. Having said that I look forward to pressing Voice Command key and say "start torch on" and "start torch off"
You guys can already do that can't you?
VJLumos has an -on and -off command line.
ebliss has asked for the white screen thing, which is easy to implement but will chunk out the code a little. I am little concerned about bloating the app. but I will add this as an extra command line, eg -torch (toggle)
I use my Magician more then my Universal (for which there is VJCandela of course). But VJLumos can be a stand alone "torch" for the Magician, and I really like the extra brightness...
Chatty, any luck with your hardware?
V
@vijay555: You probably missed this post further up.
Chatty, I know we had no luck like this, but I thought you were investigating another solution? I think I'd have to see similar hardware to yours to know how to trace it through the software. But have a look at the linux guys - in the VJCandela threads someone posted about the particular hardware used for the torch on the Universal. If you can obtain similar info on the camera hardware for the Magician, perhaps you can hack in at a very low level.
That's beyond me though. I reach my limits on the "copy and paste" tutorial on Welcome.exe. That had me stumped for quite a while...

[APP] Seismo - v0.12 20/09/2008

Hi,
Here is a small application which uses the accelerometer and draws a small graph. It uses the g-sensor managed DLL from Koushilk Dutta (and you'll need the .Net Compact Framework 3.5 to run this on your Diamond)

Edit: 20th sept. version 0.12 of my Seismosaur detector
zoom in/out with nav button (circle clockwise / counter clockwise)
close button
screen should not turn black while Seismo is running
now the scale is inverse tangent like
Have fun (though fun won't last for a long time with this )
PS: and I already know that this is silly and useless, and ugly...
nice tnx. downloading now.
(the best GODZILLA detector there is XD
Thanks in deed... I was just looking forward for this thing... Pencil is a cute user interface
Just a couple of question or feedback let's say:
-- The seismo in iphone was much more sensitive than ours... Even somebody's walking in the room was enough to disturb needle. Is it all about hardware? The response of accelerometer?
-- This lovely program is only deviating in "normal direction to screen" as far as i observed... I haven't seen a real seismograph, but is it always the case? Or should it react against the "resultant acceleration of three directions"
Thanks for the program...
Great APP, I've waited long for Seismograph for Diamond.
However it would be nice to:
1) change the pencil with the proffesional needle image?
2) make it more sensitive (or let us choose the sensitivity ),
3) prevent the screen from fading when the APP is running,
4) add some sound?,
5) add the possibilty to save the session,
6) maybe add the Richter scale meter somewhere underneath?
Heh, a long list, but I hope it will help to improve the APP
Haha... Love it!

I'm not sure about the sensitivity, maybe it's the scale i've used (a logarithmic one may be needed, as the iPhone version has)... I'll try some adjustments... but i'm not trying to compete with the iPhone version here nor the results can be compared. iPhone's Seismometer measures some "energy" and not the raw acceleration. Maybe they square it or they integrate it, i don't know...
You are also right: I'm only measuring "up and down" accelerations. It could also use the norm of the vector if you think that it makes more sense.

Here my ideas for processing of raw data coming out of port:
1- As you've suggested, a log scale may let you magnify the result. Actually it will not magnify but it will let the output be scaled on a narrower band (visually). it means you will have a bigger space to plot data's. So you can increase the output by some constant (multiply with 10 let's say), or even maybe take the cube of the output (taking square will cause problem because negative results will turn into positive then) So we can see even the very small disturbances. and since you use log scale, big oscillations will also not be problem, they will nicely fit on your log scale.
2- Secondly norm of the vector seems like a better idea. Because we're not looking for something scientific or something based on real scales, you can use a resultant vector. The users only want to see the movement of your pencil in any case of disturbance. So sqrt(x'2+y^2+z^2) will be a more useful raw data output just before multiplying with proportional constant and scaling on log paper.
One more time thanks for your effort....
Very very very cool.
thanks very much for your time and effort
Highly appreciated.
works flawesly no probs with sensitivity HR...try to put Dia od table and you will see some vibrations even without any "seismic activity: so maybe appreciate option to stabilise common distorsions caused by HW such a very small iregular deviations...but leave to measure also this small distorsions so to do some switch...but very very amazing app...
I hate iPhone and iPhonemania but its good inspirations for all WM community
Very nice app.
Some suggestions
-exit button
-You can also do this with sound (decibel meter?)
-scale option
-real needle image
Great work so far thanks
Thanks for your feedback and suggestions, I'll try to improve this draft - I did not spend a lot of time on this as you may have guessed
I'll try first to change the scaling, find or draw a "needle" picture and have an exit button.
Stay tuned...
I was finishing my seismo program last nigth but you got ahead
Aldo my program have more features yours have a lot better interface, this was my second WM program so i think its normal, could you share the sorce code so i see how you make the graph?
And i can share my formulas white you to, i was using this web site as base to all my formulas http://earthquake.usgs.gov/learning/topics/measure.php
Thx in advance
Hi Ikari,
I had seen the thread where you said that you may code something, but at this time my small Seismo was already on its way...
Of course I'll post my C# solution on this thread this evening/night (European time too) when i get back home and have 5 free minutes
Feel free to use it!
where I can take .net 3.5??

To Ikari - and all those interested - here is a link to the current zipped solution (VS 2008):
SeismoMeter.zip (696 KB)
The few interesting things are in SeismoMain.cs...
Video of the app here.

really cool app. kudos from me
several small questions - would it be possible to somehow save the data / the graphs?
and it'd be cool if the device didn't go to sleep after the wm-preset time...
Very nice one.. I wouldt be nice to save the graphs and for example put the phone on the table and If your girlfriend/wife took it for a few moments then put it back.. you can see that ... just an ideea
Nice app!
What to add a fullscreen mode ?

[FIX] Yellow/Green/Red White Balance fix without Root. Yellowish tint , Yellow tint

Hello all, after getting my LG G4 yesterday I have noticed the screen on my unit exhibits a yellowish tint, especially whites look too yellow for my liking. Now, because of Boot-gate I don't want to root it this early just in case ( although I have a 607 serial number so chances of that happening are significantly smaller.)
So I researched some fixes, tested some apps and came to the conclusion that this app: [url]https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.uk.quickdoc.screenbalance[/URL] is the best solution if you are not rooted.
Because, unlike all other apps, it is not an overlay but rather uses the built-in accessibility service baked into android, it is much more accurate, is system wide ( so yes, the virtual buttons as well!) and is more energy efficient.
Now the problem is that functionality is pretty limited if you are not on the pro version. By any means , use ''your way'' to get the app because I love to support devs but asking 3 euros is just too much for a very simple app. Please support the developer however because without him we would not have had this amazing solution
My settings are as follows: (Please note that the screenshots are not INDICATIVE of the real thing, in real life it is much less blue.)

Tried it and because I have a yellow tinted screen it hasn't quite worked for me obviously. But yes indeed the xperia phones have a nice calibration on them. Funny because my reference point was my sister's Z3 on vivid mode.
Thank you for the post OP. I also bought G4 Dual sim variant few days back, and found my phone's display has reddish/pinkish tint, which is more visible on white background and in low brightness.
I have installed the app u mentioned, and it is so far working good. I still haven't found thr ebst setrings for red tint, trying out different ones, but the one i m using right now is (see screenshot below)

My pleasure. To quickly respond to the question you asked me about the RGB values, the presets (midnight etc.) are actually values that are being composed using the RGB sliders. Using the RGB sliders will give you more control and will potentially allow you to calibrate the display to almost perfect (basically as good as the panel can be so don't expect any miracles).
However this will take a lot of time so I'll just stick with the presets for now.

The only issues I know of are
- When taking a screenshot the value is calculated over the original value rather than the value you actually see on-screen. This results in a blueish/yellowish/reddish picture.
- When an app wants to be granted a permission the app needs to be paused( I do not now if this is because of safety reasons imposed by google or if it's because of the dev.)

I think this has to do with the animation scale LG sets as default. Enable developer options and set all to ×1.0

Is anyone flashed successfully??? Please post screenshots..
Yay, I just got OTA notification as I woke up. The download size is 1,259.9MBs.
New features in attached photo:
I will post my experience as it's installed.
Just finished downloading the FTF through Flashtool/XperiFirm. Will flash in a moment and report back if noone else beats me to it (most likely someone will )
Ok, early feedback from the AU build
Fingerprint reader is lightning fast, most noticeable change on first boot - Just wow.
Whole phone seems considerably more fluid, a lot less lags and stutters - that said, my MM build was in a bit of a state and had become very slow!
Currently investigating the new stamina options:
"Battery time preferred" slows the whole phone to a crawl. It disables the "big" cores, disables a bunch of features, and reduces display brightness - not pleasant to use at all. A bit TOO heavy handed in my opinion. nb. It seems you need to reboot after changing FROM this mode to reactivate the big cores??
"balanced" mode does introduce a lot of micro stutter throughout the UI, less noticable if you disable animations from the developer menu, but I still wouldn't recommend using this option all the time.
Performance preferred" option seems a good compromise. The battery life estimate jumped up by about 25% compared with disabled, and is barely noticable in general use - I may leave this enabled 24/7 if all is well.
New options in the camera include timer and also the object tracking on Superior Auto, ported from the Xperia X series - a welcome surprise.
Nougat's new notification mechanism is a good improvement, I like that change a lot. There are more interactive options in the notifications themselves, and they can be long pressed to expose further options still, such as removing a notification from lock screen, setting them to "icon only" and other such things.
I'm still not delighted by the heat this thing puts out, on my phone previously on MM I've seen battery temp in the very high 40's when browsing over 4g, and even 52c once playing Pokemon GO.......this is borderline dangerous quite frankly! A geekbench run on Nougat saw me into mid 40s, so looks like no improvement there.
Please anyone do a video review (i wonder if you can still do a screen video) < one example
multi windows i guess replacing miniapps,
i wonder if they remove call recorder (voice machine)
and benchmark test! strees\heat
it will be the last version (if we lucky maybe 7.1)
Awesome!!! No idea when Bulgaria gets it but I am already hyped.
Hi,
replied inline to answer some of your questions - I can't do a proper "review" now as I am at work!
Superrman said:
Please anyone do a video review (i wonder if you can still do a screen video) < one example Yes, screen recording is still there, as is screenshot
multi windows i guess replacing miniapps, Multiscreen is alive and well - a bit pointless on our tiny screen mind you. Strangely, small apps is a selectable option in the task switcher screen. It opens a new menu screen which list the small apps. I little clunky, but maintains small apps for those who use them I guess.
i wonder if they remove call recorder (voice machine) - Sorry, not sure what you mean here. I don't recall having any stock call recorder? I use a third party solution and that seems to work ok.
and benchmark test! strees\heat No notable change in my initial fiddling. I expect it may be possible to tune the heat/performance with the new stamina options if you so wish. I'm currently testing the "performance preferred" option of stamina mode, and that doesn't seem to do much (anything?) in terms of CPU throttling. The GPU frequency readout seems broken in floating monitors (nougat issue?) so can't tell what its doing there till tool is updated
it will be the last version (if we lucky maybe 7.1)

Is there much difference between the NOBA and AU releases? I like the idea of no NFC icon which is part of NOBA, wondered if there is anything else I should consider?
Can anyone with the Z5C Nougat post some screens with the new notification bar and Recent apps view (I wonder if the "clear all" button is still there), possibly multitasking in action too? Thanks!
There's now a video at top of the update screen showing new features https://youtu.be/OiZqtQ7HBlc
The download speed I'm getting at the moment, it might take few days to download
Is there a way to get the OTA to download on mobile data? As soon as I turn off Wi-Fi, download is paused. I think it will be faster over LTE data.

Ah, sweet, hadn't noticed that. Definitely looks pretty good. I'm hoping it's not buggy, or at least has mostly negligible bugs.

Not sure multitask is working on our device (I didn't find anything in settings)
Quick thoughts after an hour or so of usage. It feels more smooth. The notifications are nice. The battery seems ok so far, need to use it for a few days i guess.
Split Screen is working fine for me and I havent actually noticed any lag while no battery care functions turned on.
Clear all button is there right up at the top.
Double tap switches between the last two apps quickly.
My Ringtone and Media Volume is stuffed. Can anyone else check that on their device? The volume is loud for a millisecond and then it dies right down to a painfully low level.

ColorOS FeaturesOverall I really do enjoy the experience of ColorOS 12 on the Find X5. The system feels very refined and smooth. While I do prefer a system that is closer to stock Android, or similar I did like all the extra features ColorOS bright. Also especially with the 120hz enabled this is a great user experience as you would want to expect from this high performance chip and display.
Lock screenLockscreen has a very minimal design and is useful with customisable quick access buttons. I have mine configured to a payment card and camera. I especially like that you can swipe up to the pin code, and from there can swipe up again to get back to fingerprint unlock. Another good detail is after 72hr you are required to enter your pin if you only have been using your fingerprint so you do not forget it.
Notifications shadePulling down the notification shade, either from the lock or home screen allows for a very convenient access to the quick access toggles which also are super customisable. I enjoy small details such as a blurry background, nice font spacing and a very easy overview. For example when toggling on the flashlight you get a notification that easily lets you disable it, or enable it. Something that did take getting used to however was the way you dismiss notifications: Using other devices it was common to simply swipe to the right to dismiss, but on ColorOS you always get the settings toggle and bin icon, forcing you to stop the swipe and initiate a second longer swipe. This can be avoided by swiping left, it dismisses the notification immediately, but I found it a bit odd. Example: https://photos.app.goo.gl/ipMmiCtBAJCHU16M8
Extra featuresFurthermore the system has a lot of powerful features built into it such as flexible windows, a feature I found particularly useful when multitasking. It allows you to pop over small windows of apps such as chrome, calculator, etc. These can even be combined while watching YouTube picture in picture.
Widgets & HomescreenMost widgets that are available in Android 12 are present, which also comes with the Material You colour theming. What I noticed however there are still some bugs with for example the official google clock widget not scaling properly, or the missing google weather widget. For other widgets I had no issues. Example: https://photos.app.goo.gl/LyCHWwc6J4HwVyCS7 However, this can be resolved by using a different launcher. In Lawnchair I had no widget issues.
Another ColorOS specific thing I have noticed, is that you cannot swipe up on widgets on the home screen. While this is not a big issue for me it can be a slight inconvenience as I like to access the app drawer from anywhere on the homescreen and having a widget placed at the bottom area where your thumb rests makes it slightly harder to open.
CustomisationMy first customisation was to disable the search to allow for access to swipe down to the notification shade. Swipe up to enter the app drawer. My only issue I encountered was that you can not swipe up/down to enter either when you initiate the tap from a widget. Instead you scroll inside the widget view, which can be a bit irritating but is easy to get used to.
Customisation doesn't stop there, you can long press to enter the edit mode and change everything from the layout grid such as 3x5 to 5x6 and also transitions which have a few choices such as roll, cube, flip, card and tilt. Of course you can also access the widget drawer, change wallpapers or icons.
Unfortunately one thing I was missing from the customisation was in the icon field: there is no support for material you icon theming or system colour palette choosing. Supported apps are able to pick the colours from the wallpaper but it sadly ends there. For me this would have been very nice to have, as it allows for even more personalisation which has so far been great!
HapticsOther details I really did enjoy were the great use of the built in haptics engine, which provided a very satisfying feedback when scrolling to the end, using sliders in the system such as the volume or brightness, or while typing.
BonusA bonus feature that I did enjoy a lot was when using my OPPO Enco Buds, they immediately connected each time and when opening the case you get a pop up view showing the battery status of each earbud and the case. It’s similar to what AirPods do and seeing this built into the system is extremely cool! Unfortunately, when using other buds such as the Galaxy ones you do not get any pop up animation and need to rely on the galaxy app, or use the widget to see the battery status of each bud individually.
Conclusion Part 3Overall I did really enjoy ColorOS, it's well optimised and in my opinion adds a bunch of extra features that are helpful, a bit unexpected which feels innovative and runs overall smoothly. There are also a lot tweaks done to make things easier which I did quite like such as extra customisation. But also a few things did bother me such as not a full integration of Material You theming and how the launcher handles widgets or certain interaction patterns like notifications. However these smaller details are things that I could get used to and was able to enjoy the experience it provides!
