Hi guys,
One and simple question: - what kernel to use with stock rom on N7 3G 32GB, considering:
- A kernel that would not have to mess around with frequency and other settings without overclock and deliver a better battery life.
- For performance equal (or better) to stock satisfies.
- A kernel ready to install and no need to configure anything.
What recommend following these parameters?
:good:
Tks.
looking for a simple kernel, without many and many settings and deliver a excelente batt life
I am on smoothrom v5.0 using lean kernel and while I am new to the android modding community I tried 4 or 5 kernel/ROM combos before I decided on this combo. I will say I noticed my quadrant scores increase from 3600 to 4600 w/o over clocking and my battery life increased by a decent bit. I son,t know the exact increase but it was noticeable to me over stock setup.

20mmrain,
thanks,
Stock rom i think its ok to me, but i´m open mind.
Kernel for me its more important. I´ll take a look on this.
Tks.
Suggestion- read the kernel threads in the development forum and come to your own informed opinion.

Hey no problem..... Give it a look..... I am not sure if you will get the same effect using stock ROM with leankernel nor am I sure you can even use the lean kernel with the stock ROM by itself. I know they have a thread here at XDA for this kernel maybe someone there can let you know.

I did it. And so I decided to ask the opinion. Most of what I read is always settings for experts, which I am not.
And do not want to spam the same question over all kernel threads.

just wondering what is the simplest kernel, next stock, delivery parameters without the need for various tweaks!
Ask to ear the users opinions. I think sometimes simplicity can be the better choice, especially for non-expert like me.

kernels can be subjective not all electronic componets are not equal, so some people get better results with agggressive HAVS and some get better with not HAVS and so forth.
Best way to do is try try different variants of types, and always nandroid before flashing. Also CFS kernels are typically for SEnse based ROMS and BFS are reserved for AOSP
Check out the Snap Kernel, that's supposed to be pretty good with CM. I agree with BrianDigital too, every evo is different. Some peoples EVO will do well with a kernel that someone else's did poorly with. Just try different ones, do a lot of reading, and find the ones that you like the most.
ok thanks guys is there a site that tell me which kernals support which roms?

it will be under the android development sub section of the our evo forums.
The header for the thread should state its a kernal and what varient it is. if your really unsure there is alot of text in there just make sure it is for either a sense based rom or AOSP and backup before flashing. I have flashed tons of them without reading the whole opening post but YMMV

Hey just saw this and wanted to say myn 5 just came out and it is awesome. I am currently just trying the kernel it came with but so far I am at 11 hours with mod use and 47% left.

i have found the kernel that ships with CM6 is one of the best, followed by Zendroid 1.0.2 BFS-AVS, each kernel can have different effects on different devices, just make sure whatever kernel you try is for AOSP based roms.
also, watch out for the kernels with SBC (battery charging mod) built in, there are reports of battery issues. just something to keep in mind. some people are ok and some people are having their battery overheat.
hi every one
i would like to open a thread about reviews on custom roms on ARC S
reviews made as ORDINARY USER
it is just about how you think of your device AFTER a custom rom
what you like or dislike.....
what you miss or need and didn't found ....(no need to tell how and what you do , because that's another subject)
NO NEED to post Q or BUGS or HOW TO or REQUESTS or DEEP DEVELOPER details JUST....USER OPINION!!!
AND please give credits to the developers of the ROMS by posting links to threads you found the custom rom in.
Starting form here:
Arc S with rooted GB (LT18i 4.0.2.A.0.62) and CWM installed
AtoMic GB 5.0 final (custom rom)
AtoMic Gb 5.0 Arc S patch!
Atomic mod system ui

-device working fine no lags or errors ..until now
-installing apps &games and they are working good for me
-no file manager pre-installed
-don't like ring tones
my overall opinion it is GOOD rom to try!!!:good::good:
You should use the respective Rom threads to post reveiws about romS!

Well I think it's a good idea for a thread that could help people in finding ROM's with features they are looking for. I dislike posting off topic so here I go:
CyanogenMod 10
+Clean
+Stable
+Fast
+Not as bloated as stock ICS
+JB notifications are useful
+Supported and actively developed
+Open source
-Camera is awful
-Ringtones could be better but who really cares?
Oh and don't take XtremeSilencer seriously he's not so bright...

The way People can find what they're looking for is by reading the ROM threads in the development section, not by reading noobs opinions on one of the many variations of a "best ROM" thread, which this is, evident by the short summary of what the OP thinks about the ROM.
I can't agree more. Which ROM is the fastest? Which kernel is best? etc. etc. It's like walking into a bar and asking which drink is the best. You can't get your answer because every person around has a personal taste and looking for something different.
Going further. Telling that one ROM is better than another is quite disrespectful to developers. Most of them spent much time making their work for FREE and one guy can easily depreciate their work.
If you're looking for answer - try. It's easy and making it on your own is much funnier than looking for spoon feeding in every situations. Thinking is fun

Actually I have an Ultimate HD of course, with Ultimate HD Mod and I like it very much.
+almost no lags
+xperia z theme
+modded statusbar (better than stock, I think)
+configurable
+quite frequent updates
-few useless system apps
Grade: 5,5 (in Poland we have grading scale from 2-5 at universities )
Previously I had used several other ROM`s, for example Viper Xpieria (good, 4,5-5), Racing Bean (not so good, 3-3,5), CyanogenMod 10 (good, 4), MIUI (good, 4), Jelly Sandwich (very good, 5, but it`s no longer developed I think) and CAMPS+ (bad, 2,5-3).
So to sum up, in my opinion the best ROM actually is Ultimate HD + Ultimate HD Mod, cause of no lagging, stability, and almost no bugs.
I've been using Custom ROMs for about 6 months. So, didn't try too many of them. The reason why I switched to custom ROM was Sony Bloatware and the slowness of official ICS ROM. What I was looking for was more internal space and get the phone up to GB speeds.
First try was CM9.
+ Easy to install, best documentation out there,
+ Good customization options,
+ Frees up load of memory,
+ The GUI doesn't lag too much
+ Fast boot-up.
- Apollo player (hated it and due to regional issues, I couldn't install Google Music),
- WiFi issues
Next I tried racing bean with Fusion 4.4
+ The GUI is much more fluid than anything I tried on my Arc,
+ Customization is on the same level as CM9,
+ Same internal storage usage as CM9,
+ Includes good players/utilities,
+ Battery life didn't shorten despite the fact that the phone became more fluid and responsive,
+ WiFi locks very fast and stable,
+ No issues with 3G,
- There are 3 camera programs included. The panaroma one doesn't even launch (force close immediately). The other two are definitely below the Sony's original camera application,
- The kernel boot takes forever. I see the Fusion logo for about 40 seconds. Once the Nexus animation starts, the boot-up goes very fast. I get the feeling that the Fusion kernel is waiting for a timeout,
- The phone reboots occasionally. Especially when GPS is used (like with dedicated navigation programs). I think when the phone is under heavy load (you feel that the GUI starts stuttering and lag becomes apparent) almost immediately the Nexus X logo comes up.
I heard good things about the Ultimate HD ROM. Will try that one once I get some free time.

Hi all,
I am the developer of SentinelROM, which is one of the most popular ROMs for Nexus 10, Nexus 7, Nexus 4 and HTC One X.
SentinelROM is compiled by me with modified CyanogenMod 10.1 code (additional tweaks for performance and battery life, as well as some theming). So far the ROM has been very successful.
I've decided to release the ROM for Samsung Galaxy SIII (i9300) also, but I need your help as I don't own a SGSIII to test with.
I am reaching out to anyone who would be willing to flash my test ROM and test a few things for me.
If you're interested, please PM me either here, or via the SentinelROM facebook page. I will reply with a download link and instructions.
I only need a few people for testing, so please don't be offended if I don't get back to you with a download link.
This ROM is for i9300 only at this stage, so please do not reply if you own an i9305 as the ROM will not work on your device.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the plug mate.

Thanks heaps!

Well everything is working as normal. I played about with the rom it is pretty stable. Everything works, and when i fell asleep unlike cm the battery never drained maybe about 3 percent drain overnight which is great. So the battery life on this rom is excellent. You're good to go with your rom. Sorry for the late reply i installed this around midnight. Used the rom and till about 2am and fell asleep. I am still using it. I must say overall it is a great rom. Thank you very much. I've not yet found a fault but maybe i might find one but that would be cm related.
For a beta rom this is really stable. Onlything maybe it isn't a big problem now but in the ota updater lol it doesn't recognize the device as MO.
Beautiful!!!
I'll credit you in the OP. Thankyou very much!

sentinel rom v 4.5 for gt-i9300
Hello, Sentinel.
First of all I'd like to thank you for this truly amazing rom, there's so many things I can do with my phone and change almost everything I want to within it. I only found 1 issue which may not be an issue at all, I might still be a bit inexperienced with all this modding stuff, but I haven't found a way to overclock or undervolt my phone using your kernel, but I took a risk of using siyah kernel 1.9.1 which is said not to be compatible with 4.2.2 JB and basically all new roms that are out now, but the funny thing is IT DOES WORK! And I think that siyah 1.9.1 kernel and your custom sentinel rom is the best combo ever for my galaxy s3. The battery works great even when I overclock it, it's really stable and never glitching. I can say I'm a heavy consumer, wifi constantly on, and I'm playing psone games with and emulator alot and it still does a pretty decent job. On my next payday I'm definitely donating, buddy. And in a months time when s3 stock 4.2.2 JB will come out, I'd like to see what you can do with that one aswell.
Keep up the great work, best regards, Lietus.

Hi Lietus. I assume you posted this here because you can't post in the ROM thread, so I'll answer you here
My official position on over/underclocking and UV/OV is discussed on my website. Have a browse.
Sorry but it's not something I support in my ROMs. People are alwsys welcome to use other Kernels to unlock these features if they want them.
Looking forward to payday
Hey, this is my first post, you did a really good job with this rom!
Is there any way to disable the fullscreen keyboard feature?
I understand where you're coming from and I totally agree with you if we users want we can make it ourselves using different kernels especially when your ROM is that great and it accepts different types of kernels. And I've got 5 different types of android machines which could use some improvement so if you're interested and have the time to expand your ROMs through those it would be just awesome. Because your ROM is actually the first custom one I've tried, and after a lot of research I can't seem to trust myself with someone else's

Hello! So I'm sure you've been asked this question before, but I'm curious to see some updated answers since there is a decent handful of roms available for the S4-1337 now.
I am very much an Android gamer, I've been using the sixaxis application with a Dual Shock 3 controller since the application was released; and have been hooking my phones up to TV's since I could. It's essentially my "gaming console".
Currently I'm not running any custom rom on my s4, it's just rooted and using xposed framework with wanam installed (for stock touchwiz customization).
I however have noticed that no matter what I do, I won't get the speed and frame rate I desire with the stock rom; as it's just too heavy on the phone. I'd like the opinions of other Android gamers here about what custom rom they find is best optimized for gaming and overclocking (if necessary). Generally something that's lite but has a lot of customization that I desire.
I currently am a devout player of the Modern Combat series, other games are touch and go once in awhile.
Thanks,
Branden.
I just want to give you a heads up, this might get closed down as "best for xxxxx" isn't allowed.
My suggestion to you is to flash a slimmed down ROM or a ROM thats well known and slim it down your self. Also, the stock Google edition base is a goof foundation. Don't forget kernel settings tweaks!

I don't really want to give out names as I don't love to play favorites but since your new.. I'd advise against CM/AOKP ROMs that are nightlies as I think they're not for casual gaming since commits change daily. @task650 tends to put out some stable choices for a ROM based on aosp. (Aokp).
For kernels I've found there is community favorites. Faux, chronic, ktoon. (No order). Try them out and see for yourself.

Hello, so far nexus 6p users have had a good year as we have been updated with many new roms including different features and stability. I would like to know how people are finding their current rom and why? I have heard many good things with roms such as dirty unicorn and as a kernel elemental x as well as franco kernel. So what's your preference? Just curious. Also, I would like to know what kinda tweaks and features that are useful so people are aware of this before they flash, feel free explaining your opinions, thanks.
Pure rom + franco kernel + greenify.
The rom includes super su which gives greenify permission to kill apps.
This all adds up to getting about 1.5 days with 6hrs SOT out of the phone with moderate use. But if you can easily make it through a day you probably end up putting your phone on charger anyway.
I do it because I enjoy tinkering with the phone & this combo is put together by individuals passionate about optimising the performance/hardware of the device.
Edit:corrected some figures & added images

Same. 6-7 hour sot without using any greenify or any battery saving app. NOTE: im able to get this plus much smoother experience with ghostpepper. I know their other kernel profile which provide better battery life but after trying them all the best one for SMOOTHNESS and battery is ghostpepper. I can right away notice in scrolling like in apps like fb or youtube app. When u use darkspice or other which provide better battery life i get lags on those app and phone feels alot warmer. When i use ghostpepper my phone only get slighly warm when charging but cool to the touch all the time plus buttersmoothe scrolling with my 6 hour sot. Im in heaven with this phone. Sold my galaxy s7 edge by the way, my nexus 6p still the best all around phone

It's in the general section:

If you can't find it use the search feature.

You can customise Pure Nexus quite a bit, but alas it is trying to maintain as close to AOSP as possible.
Heimdall is governor settings for the interactive governor. Can read about them here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guide-advanced-interactive-governor-t3290605

It has stock settings in franco.Kernel, yes. However there is other tweaks that can be done too.

Pure nexus not customizable? What are you trying to do, turn your phone into a transformer? I used to stay away from it because it had TOO MANY options...
If you don't know what xposed is, it's pretty clear you have done no searching or reading for yourself.

1. I'm not your friend.
2. No one is here to spoon feed you.
3. No one can tell you what the best ROM for you is. Only you can decide that.

1. If you're going to talk like an idiot and mess my thread it's not gonna happen.
2. I don't have to download and see in trial and error whether which rom works better for me as everyone has there own opinions on each rom I count on what people think on each rom unlike you. If developers are making these roms we have the right to speak and see what works better so everyone can be aware.
3. You came here like an idiot you can now leave as an idiot my friend ).

lol. It actually is your responsibility to figure out what the best combination is on YOUR device. You can clearly see that Pure Nexus is the most popular rom, yet you don't like it. Roms and kernels will behave differently from device to device. Just because one combination is best for one person, it doesn't mean it will be the best for you. Again, you need to figure it out by trial and error. That's what the overwhelming percentage of people do on this forum. The rest, like yourself, try to be spoonfed without putting in the work.
