Using Unactivated Droid Incredible ~As WIFI ONLY DEVICE~ - Droid Incredible General

This is my first post in XDA and im sorry if i have done anything wrong..
Im not responsible if something happens wrong...
I created this thread because there are many people out there having an Unactivated Droid Incredible and hoping to use it as a WIFI only Device.
This can be done even your not in USA. (Im not in USA too).. Any place this will work because nothing to do with VERIZON I got the phone from ebay for a very cheap price and now its really worth when you can use it as a wifi only device..
It was really hard to me to use my DINC as a wifi only device .. i had to search for more than 4 days to get it completed ..
I think this will be helpful for many guys....
Here how i Started
1) First of all you have to unlock your Bootloader via HTCdev.. and Install CWM recovery
UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER WILL FACTORY RESET YOUR DEVICE!!!...YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
1. Head over to HTC Dev http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/.
2. Create a account or sign in (you must use your real email address).
3. Go to unlock bootloader.
4. Select “HTC DROID INCREDIBLE*”.
5. Follow the directions and install all the software provided and you will end up with a unlocked bootloader with s-on. Save a copy of the unlock_code.bin to your pc, so you have it after dooing the froyo ruu.
6. Enter FASTBOOT again on your phone.
7.Open the command prompt again on your pc to where adb.exe is. (ie. C:\android-sdk\platform-tools or C:\adb
8. Download this - CWM recovery 5.0.2.0 http://dinc.does-it.net/Guide_Root_N...t/recovery.img, and place it in the same folder as fastboot (where you put unlock_code.bin ie. C:\adb).
9. For simplicity’s sake rename the above file to recovery.img if it doesn’t already save it as recovery.img.
10. In your command prompt navigate to the folder containing your fastboot files and recovery.img
11. Enter the following in the command prompt:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Code:
12. Once that completes navigate to recovery on your phone and press power to select it.
13. Once CWM recovery boots on your phone use the volume up and down to pick "Mounts and storage" press the trackball to select it.
Actually this is from this Thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506258

2) You have to flash a new ROM to your device....
NEVER USE A STOCK ROM because it will ask for that stupid Verizon Activation
Please use the below thread links to get roms and its good if you can use the instructions in them.
To flash a ROM follow these Steps,
1) Download the ROM You like(NON-STOCK)
2) Turn on recovery(power+volume down then Recovery *YOU SHOULD HAVE INSTALLED CWM recovery in STEP ONE*)
3) Do a Full data/factory wipe and wipe cache
4) Then in CWM goto Mounts and storage > Mount SD
5) Then Copy the downloaded ROM (the ZIP file) to the SD card and unmount it after copied
6) Then go back < the choose install zip from sdcard
7) Choose the zip file you copied to the sd card and install it..
8) wipe cache
9) AND PLEASE TO THE STUFF THAT ARE SAID IN ROM THREADS *EXAMPLE-*Flashing GAPPS
9) reboot
10) NOW YOU CAN USE YOUR DINC AS WIFI ONLY DEVICE
I have used the below roms and i was able to use them with no activation required..
I think any CyanogenMod or AOSP will do the work
Jellybean AOSP- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=17781903

If it's Wi-Fi only the network type wouldn't matter (CDMA or GSM) as Wi-Fi would not use the network at all.

Click activate and wait for it to fail. Do this 3 times and it will let you bypass it. It has to say programing in progress, and then programing unsuccessfull 3 times.

There's an mod that murders the radios, mix that with MIUI or Pete's builds and you have a great player with days of use

Do a backup, and then flash this http://dinc.does-it.net/Mods/RemoveCellStandby.zip thru recovery.

it didnt work ??? im on tinys cm10

I'm already rooted
This interests me. My HTC Inc is no longer active, but I rooted it when it was active. I have a Clockwork Recovery and CyanogenMod 7 ROM installed. To completely deactivate the radio (in order to save the battery life), perhaps all I need to do is to factory reset the phone?
Has this process worked for others?

i just have my wifi only Dinc in airplane mode but with wifi toggled on. getting good battery life even with stock 1300 mah battery an Tiny's 5-16 rom.

I have flashed the contents of the zip file to kill radio, if someone has more advices for wifi only Incredible optimization please post here...

I've seen a couple threads about this here and there's never any info I didn't already think of, which kinda sucks. I guess there's only so much you can do with an ancient wifi only device.
I'm on CM7 with CWM recovery. I'm using the airplane mode wifi app as I'm sure others are as well. Tried to run the wifi only script at boot but was still seeing battery drain from cell standby. Now I get really good battery life. I mainly use it for GPS tracking when I exercise with Endomondo Pro. Google Play Music is amazing. Tablet talk will transmit SMS over Bluetooth or wifi so you don't have to use a different number or wifi calling. Other than that stuff there's not much I do differently than my gnex and sero7...
Check out them battery stats haha

That's the one I flashed yesterday. Follow the install instructions posted in the lithium miui thread.
No app drawer on miui, so using launcher pro. With launcher pro, the widgets are working, which weren't for some reason on the stock launcher.
Make sure you let your phone rest the full 8 and 4 mins, I don't know why but I did, and apparently it's important.
GPS also works, but I had to play with it to get it going.

Lets get this out of the way first. I am not responsible if you screw up your phone, but you are probably here because you already screwed up your phone. I have now been through this several times over the last few days. Some will say this process is overkill, but there is no denying that it always works, so please refrain from stating the obvious.
If you have installed or updated CM7/MIUI and lost your baseband, IMEI, or both, this should help you. Due to the amount of people currently having this problem, I would recommend this be stickied at least temporarily until things are straightened out, so people can find it easily.
For Windows only, I do not have a Mac.
Step 1 - Read the entire post and understand everything involved before you attempt this. This is a long ride, probably 30-40 minutes from start to end. This is not for new people, and will assume you have a certain amount of knowledge because you attempted to flash CM7/MIUI.
DO NOT SKIP OR SHORTCUT ANY STEP IN THIS PROCESS, UNLESS I SPECIFICALLY STATED YOU MET THE CRITERIA TO DO SO. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT TRYING THIS UNLESS YOU CAN REACH DOWNLOAD MODE AND RECOVERY USING BUTTONS WITH THE PHONE OFF!
Step 2 - Gather what you need...
1 - The AIO Vibrant Toolbox : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509
Install according to directions in the post. Donate to this guy. He spent alot of time making this easy for you to do.
2 - The old CM7 install files : http://www.mediafire.com/?gn4qoonoe3cjyp6
Unzip to a location that is easy to get to.
3 - The new version of CM7/MIUI you want to install, from the thread of your choice. Donate to the developer you are using, they spend alot of their free time making your phone better. They don't get paid for it, and they dont charge you for it.
4 - Your phone, with a full battery.
Step 3 - Odin to JFD and install Clockwork 2.x
1 - Fire up the AIO Toolbox. Do not connect your phone yet, but power it down and pull your battery. See that sticker under it that says IMEI? Write it down! You will be referencing it a few times throughout the process. Start Odin and select your pit and pda files, they should automatically come up if you are using the toolbox. Hold down your volume up and down buttons, and insert your USB cable, then insert your battery. You should go to download mode, and see Odin connect. Hit start and let it fly. Once it reboots, unplug your phone. Go to settings/about phone and you should have a JFD baseband. Hit status, and check your IMEI. See how it matches the one you wrote down? Yay! Move on to the next item. If it does not, you have some reading to do because you really screwed something up, and it is beyond my power to help you...
2 - Mount phone and put the following files on the root of the sd card:
vibrant-efsbackup.zip (if you already have a backup/efs folder on your sd card you do not need this)
cm7-vibrant-initial-20110224.zip
The zip file of the new CM7/MIUI rom you want to flash.
3 - Download ROM Manager and install clockwork recovery 2.x (if you already have the update.zip on your sd card, which you should, you can also skip this) and power down your phone.
4 - Boot into recovery using the 3 button method (holding volume up and down and power, releasing power when the word VIbrant appears on your screen), hit reinstall packages, you may have to hit it twice to get to clockwork recovery. Choose to install zip from sd card, and select vibrant-efsbackup.zip. Let it do its thing. Then select reboot, and when it does, check your sd card for a backup/efs folder. Got it? Good. Power down the phone. (Obviously, if you already have the efs backup completed, you could have skipped this step.)
Step 4 - Install Clockwork 3.x and Old CM7
1 - Fire up the AIO Toolbox. Do not connect your phone yet, but pull your battery. Start Odin and hit the pda button, select the file cm7-vibrant-initial-kernel.tar from the CM7 package you unzipped (Remember, in a place that is easy to find). THIS IS IMPORTANT - UNCHECK AUTO REBOOT!!! Hold down your volume up and down buttons, and insert your USB cable, then insert your battery. You should enter download mode, and see Odin connect. Hit start and let it fly. Once it is finished, pull the usb cable. With the download mode screen still on your phone, boot into recovery using the 3 button method. You should now be in clockwork recovery 3.x. Move on to the next item! If you did not get in, you can try to pull your battery, replace it and boot into recovery from there. If you still can't get there, you get to go where the people who do not properly follow instructions go... back to Step 1.
2 - In clockwork 3.x, choose factory reset, and let it do it's thing. Then go to mounts and storage, and format system, data, and cache. Choose install zip from sd card and choose cm7-vibrant-initial -20110224.zip. As it is installing, one of the last things you see should be "restoring efs". Hit reboot when finished, and boot into CM7. When it boots, make sure you toggle the lockscreen a couple times so it connects to service. Check baseband and IMEI again. Baseband should have changed, but it does not matter until we get to where we are going. IMEI still the same right? Awesome! Power down the phone, move to the next step! It's not? You my friend, get to meet all your other friends back at Step 1.
Step 5 - Installing what you really want...
1 - Boot into recovery using the 3 button combo. Do a factory reset, wipe cache partition, go to advanced and wipe Dalvik cache. Choose install zip from sd card, and pick that shiny new version of CM7/MIUI you picked out. You are almost there. Flash it! Reboot, and when it comes back up, take note of what time it is and DO NOT TOUCH THE PHONE FOR 15 MINUTES. You have no idea the amount of bugs this squashes. After that, check the baseband and IMEI, even though you already know it is right anyway. If it is not, do i have to say it again? You know where you are going...
2 - Destroy the paper you wrote your IMEI on, you would not want that info in the wrong hands...
3 - Enjoy your new rom
FAQ:
Q: I did everything you said, and it did not work!
A: You either skipped a step, or did not stop at the point I told you you were screwed.
Q: No, seriously, I did everything you said!
A: Seriously, I have done this 5 times in the past 3 days, and it worked every time.
Q: I installed CM7 nightly #9,10,or 11 with this method, and I have no sound on calls. What gives?
A: These builds have known issues with in call audio. Flash CM7.1
Q: Once I am on CM7/MIUI, do I have to do this every time or can I update normally?
A: Once you are on CM7 or MIUI with the proper IMEI and a good baseband, you should be able to update via the rom posting instructions. If you decided to switch from CM7 to MIUI or vice versa, I would go back to this process to get your initial installation.
Q: I installed CM7.1 and then tried to go to MIUI, and lost everything again, what happened?
A: There are changes betweeen CM7 to 7.1 that have made this difficult due to compatability issues, which is why I recommend doing this process again if you want to switch between the two.
Q: I thought there was an easier way to do this, why so many steps?
Read the first paragraph of the post, but I guess that is also asking too much...

Just install the one you linked to, the one direct from miui.us.
The other Lithium one looks like it's customized, overclock kernal, stuff like that.
I disabled vodoo lag fix. I odin back to 2.1. Then I installed stock 2.2.
Then I followed the instructions exactly. Wipe dalvic cashe, format system/data/cache, wipe factory restore, etc etc.
Not sure if I had to install 2.2 first, but I did anyway since the install instructions were for upgrading from a 2.2 rom and not a 2.1 rom.
thanks for the help. I'm on MIUI now, just gotta wait the total 12 mins for it to settle down. ;P

Thanks in advance.

You don't have to install via those long instructions anymore. Apparently those are outdated.
Just manually backup your /efs and keep a copy on your computer, just because everyone should have a copy of their /efs folder and nv_data.bin, otherwise if you run into trouble you can lose your IMEI.
Then follow these simple instructions as outlined by user nickmcminn60 for his Lithium MiUi rom, but it worked for the regular MiUi also:
INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS (For Lithium and SS-11 If you are on MIUI, CM-7 or a 2.2)
-Wipe Dalvik Cache
-Wipe Cache Partition
-Wipe Data/Factory Reset
-Format-System, Cache and Data (Located under "Mounts & Storage)
-Flash LE Lithium (EDIT by me samsungvibrant..OR THE STOCK VERSION OF MIUI could be flashed here)
-Fix Permissions
-Reboot and Let Settle For 8 Min
-Reboot again Let Set For 4 Min..
No need to do the longer install process you had mentioned in the prior post.

The only thing bugging me right now is battery life drains way faster than what i'm used to. I'll find out more on calibrating the battery/changing kernels etc.

Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
From what I have seen Lithium is actually meant to be more of a development ROM for new features. The other ROM made by that developer is the SS series which is meant to be more of a daily driver (eg. more stable), and it has additional tweaks from the official MIUI release to try to achieve things like better battery life as well as a OC or UVable kernel.
SS can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099533
and here:

Unrelated to the OP, but if you're using Launcher Pro you're missing out on one of the best aspects of MIUI: No App Drawer! Instead you organize your apps into folders on the Home page. It makes you wonder why there ever was an app drawer. Seems like a silly concept now that I've been using MIUI for a while.

if you installed clockwork mode on your phone, it's easy to install a custom rom.
To get VR 13 you have to download the rom first and copy it to your SD card root. After that you have to reboot your phone into recovery mode, by pressing for a few seconds Home + Power button when the phone is OFF.
After entering the recovery mode, i recommend you do the next steps that are very easy?
1. Backup you existing ROM (the is a section that is called Backup and Restore)
2. Wipe phone data
3. Wipe cache partition
4. Go to advanced -> and wipe dalvik
5. Press back to get back to the main menu and chose to install zip from SD card and after that Chose the ZIP and select the VR 13 ZIP and install it.
6.After installation i recommend that you flash Flykernel 13. You install it just like the rom. You chose the zip and install it. After flashing the kernel you reboot your phone and wait 10 minutes
7. When the phone is ready it enters setup mode and you know what to do from there
8. Ejnoy the new rom
If you have any other problems leave a message.

Sorry missed the other questions
1)Yes it should work in Canada
2)The backup is saved to your SD-card in the clockworkmod-folder, it will then display in rom manager (if it's installed).
You can also get to the backup through the recovery. (The same place were you installed the rom) by holding home+power on startup
Cheers

CM10 is now available.
Requirements: Root
From rooted stock or a custom rom, just download and install updated Rom Manager from the Play Store and download CM10 Nightly and GAPPS. Reboot into ClockWorkMod, factory wipe, disable signature check, flash CM10 twice. The first time partitions our tabs and reboots. Flashing a second time is for good measure. Then flash GAPPS. Done.
Note: I am not sure if Rom Manager can flash ClockworkMod directly. I personally updated from ICS > CM10 by downloading CM10 and GAPPS through GooManager and flashing manually in ClockWorkMod.
Its been reported that you can go directly from rooted stock to CM10. I've actually completed everything below to get to ICS first (Stock > ICS > CM10 JB).
CM10 is a much better experience. The tab works much better, doesn't freak out, lasts longer, plays better.

Wow. Lots of different, confusing, and scattered information about how to go from stock Gingerbread to the latest CM9 build. It is all very confusing and honestly most of the useful information isn't even on this site. So I figured I would help myself (and others) in creating a very detailed walkthrough of the process required to successfully get from GB to CM9 Build 7.
**This specifically outlines the methods to take a COMPLETELY STOCK Sprint Galaxy Tab 7" SPH-P100, unrooted, to a ICE CREAM SANDWICH rom. I "think" it might also work for the Verizon CDMA and a few others. I think the ROM itself is a general overall generic build for all 7" Gtabs. So heads up that if you have a different version, you might want to use this as a guide rather then a step-by-step.**
BACKUP EVERYTHING YOU MAY NEED BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY THIS PROCESS WILL FORMAT YOUR GALAXY TAB
GET CONNECTED!
We need to download Heimdall's App and his Drivers (Main URL). This is the first confusing steps as everyone suggests using an older version, but the included drivers don't work on newer Windows OS's. So you have to mix and match a few different versions to get it working. I've already compiled an archive with everything you need: Heimhall Mixture /w zImage & ClockWorkMod 5.0.2.7
1. Extract everything to a simple folder [ex. C:\GTABICS ]
2. Turn off Gtab. Hold VolDown+Power until you get to a downloading screen
3. C:\GTABICS\Drivers\zadiag.exe to load drivers [try running as Administrator]
4. C:\GTABICS\heimdall-frontend.exe to start the process
5. Kind of confusing. Focus on the "BROWSE" buttons. Look for "Kernel(zImage)" on the left and "Recovery" on the right. Hit browse for each one and select the appropriate file from C:\GTABICS. Obviously "Kernel(zImage)" = "zImage" and "Recovery" = "recovery.bin".
6. Make sure Kernel(zImage) and Recovery both have files selected and a checked box. While GTAB is at the black Downloading screen: Hit "START".
7. The process is pretty fast. Don't rush. At this point your tab will probably just bootloop anyway.
LET'S GET THIS SHOW ON THE ROAD
Now you have ClockWorkMod installed and a proper kernel, most flashers will feel really at ease right now. But there are a few little quirks that will cause this to go bad. You have to install 2 versions of ICS to get to the latest; One using the existing partition table, and a second that will update to a newer format. You obviously have to install GAPPS like always with a CM rom, but not so fast, you have to manually "MOUNT /SYSTEM" in CWM before it will even take. And there is the fact that you have to manually open and edit the CM9 Build7 update and remove code....[holy crap].
But it is pretty easy once you go through it once.
REQUIRED FILES
JT1136 CM9 V5
JT1136 CM9 V7 UPDATE
GAPPS
Prepare CM9 v7 Update
1. On your PC, open "update-cm-9.0.0-RC0-galaxytab7c-KANG-BUILD7.zip" and browse to META-INF\com\google\android
2. Copy "updater-script" to your desktop and open with Notepad and remove the first 3 lines or just Download it.
3. Drag and drop the update-script back into the META-INF\com\google\android folder, overwriting the existing one.
If all goes well, you are now done with the PC.
COPY FILES AND FLASH
1. Copy Build5, the new Build7, and GAPPS to your microSD card.
2. Boot into ClockWorkMod: Power off. Hold VOLUP + POWER
3. Factory Reset / clear cache / wipe Dalvik Cache / Breathe
4. Flash zip from SDCard: locate Build5 and Flash
5. Factory Reset / clear cache / wipe Dalvik Cache / Breathe
5.5 [OPTIONAL] You should be able to boot into ICS at this point if you want to make sure build5 flashed properly before upgrading to build7
6. Flash zip from SDCard: locate Build7 and Flash
At this step, my GTab rebooted in the middle of the process the first time. It freaked me out but I assume (now) that since it changed the partition tables, it needed to reset. So I did it a second time just to be safe:
7. Flash zip from SDCard: locate Build7 and Flash
8. Factory Reset / clear cache / wipe Dalvik Cache / Breathe
Congrats. You should have a working bootable CM9 build. But lets flash GAPPS so we have our Google services. This is tricky.
9. Mounts and Storage > Mount /System
10. Flash zip from SDCard: locate GAPPS and Flash.
11. Finally [!] reset device and prepare for boot.
Now you are on the latest CM9 build [7] and have the latest GAPPS installed. Hopefully you are booting now and see the famous ICS Boot Animation. Have fun. In the future you should be able to simply download new roms as they are available and flash normally like you would any other device.

Convert to Sprint
The above procedure will set your Tab as a Verizon version. If you plan on using the Sprint cellular service or just want everything to match, then flash this via ClockWorkMod.

I didn't do any development work. All credit goes to Heimdall for his fantastic Recovery Flasher and jt1136 for his great stills porting this awesome rom over to our Galaxy Tabs. All I did was bump and grind my way through to see a successful working flash. I figured if I didn't post a walkthrough here, I would hate myself in 6 months when I boink something up and have to do this all over again. I would recommend you keeping all of the files safe somewhere to prevent this headache again.

i have been thinking about moving up to ICS with my sprint sph-p100
just not sure if i should jump now or wait till more things are working ?
do the things working out number those not , is it ready to be a daily driver yet?
Camera fully works but is flaky sometimes. Video out isn't working yet but he's working on it.
Other then that, its golden. Very fast and works well. Really worth it. Feels much better... like an actual tablet vs a large phone.
Iffy Camera and video out aren't worth holding back. One of the benefits is now Wiimotes and PS3 controllers will pair up using their respective apps now.

flashed sprint Tab
Hello all,
Thanks for the files and instructions! Here is my situation/question:
I bought my Gtab off of ebay flashed to work on Boostmobile's 3G network. It works great, and had no problem with the official OTA upgrade to Gingerbread.
Now I'm dying to upgrade to ICS but am worried that this would mess with my 3G connection. I can't provide any details of what went into the flashing (its not a process I understand), but I'm hoping that someone out there will.
So, if I follow the instructions in this thread will I still be able to use my Tab with the boost 3G it connects to now?
Many, many thanks for any help with this!!
Great Thanks! The first complete step-to-step instruction for installing ICS on Sprint p100.
One note- if you have Error 12 - delete all SAMSUNG USB drivers on PC, rebut and instal drivers from first archive.
At least!!! Thanks a lot!
I don't use the cellular network (sprint) but it does come up and show signal. I don't use it as a phone or anything like some people (supposedly you can install phone.apk and make calls over a voice plan).
I just use the tab as a tab. I just wanted to confirm that it appears to see the cellular network fine.

Sprint patch for what? Mind linking? No offense but posts like these without links or more information is what creates confusion.
I haven't used a patch at all and everything seems to be working. I also never heard of a patch to fix anything.

Try re-downloading the version 5 zip again. Make sure you don't edit anything within the zip before you put it on your SD card. This happened to me when I edited the version 7 zip as instructed above.
Ok. Got it working. What is the newest ver.? I'm on 4.03
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA
I think 4.0.3 is the latest ported over. I have a Galaxy Nexus and 4.0.4 was just released... so I would expect delays in porting that over to unofficial devices.
The patch, I've found, is just cosmetic. Once you upgrade to ICS using this method, the build.prop has everything setup as a Verizon Device (name, settings, etc). They can all be manually changed but there is a patch that you can flash via ClockWorkMod that does everything for you.
The link was posted a few posts up.
What is DTI? I may just leave it as verizon since I get more signal. LOL
Hey what's up guys I just threw this on my sprint tab... I had a few quirks with it early... when I first flashed the clockwork mod on it, the screen was discombobulated... the capacitive touch orientation was in landscape mode while the actual screen was in portrait.
So when I had to put the files back on the tab after modifying build 7 zip. I had to figure how to unlock the screen and then and also to choose "connect USB to storage"
Then I got a little nervous while doing the wipe because it took long. I thought it froze..
Just a heads up of what could happen to other guys .
Also now after full install, I find that my ram is usually pretty low and my CPU usage is almost always @ 100 percent .
Taking away from the fluidity... any suggestions ?
I restored my email from titanium back up and also my browser bookmarks, now they don't open up or close immediately. This happens with a lot with system data restored things....

erase/wipe everything.. EVERYTHING
install the virtuous unity ROM
and thats it. start from scratch.. its your best bet
DO NOT restore system data with Titanium. It might easily cause the problems you're describing. And of course, DO NOT restore /data partition from nandroid backup (the one you made using ROM Manager or directly in recovery), when it isn't a part of the ROM you've backed up and restored too.
You can selectively back up and restore SMS/MMS/Call log, and also WiFi/Bluetooth/bookmarks and some more useful settings. But it's hard in Titanium, you need to know which system app contains the info you need. You can search the internet and you'll see (these apps are marked in green in app list). The rest of system settings you should set up from scratch for any system, if you expect it to function trouble-free.
Wipe your phone clean, reinstall a ROM and restore user apps only, to begin with, and see if it stops the issues you're having (which will most likely happen). And if you like Sense, you'll be better off installing Virtuous Unity, as Grimey pointed above me. One ROM with virtually 0 bugs.
If u like Sense 3.0, LeeDroid has 0 bugs as well. Been usin it for weeks...

you need to get s-off
you need to get root
you need to install a recovery
then you download the virtuous unity ROM from the development section or the virituousrom.com website. put it in your sd card. load recovery and wipe your system and cache and dalvik, then install the ROM..
So my phone is s-off and root i just don't know how to the install recovery if i can't find the market app and i don't know how to download it.

absolutely nothing to do with the market.
download the recovery image (clockworkmod or 4ext). rename it to recovery.img for easier access. place it in the same folder as adb/fastboot for easier access.
get into your bootloader, then get to fastboot mode, it should say something like "fastboot USB"
connect it to your PC
now in the adb/fastboot folder on your PC, hold shift and right-click then click on "open command window here"
finally, type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
now when its done, you can reboot into the bootloader and get into the recovery, from there you just install the ROM
Thank you again, now could you tell me how i get the "adb/fastboot folder " i googled it and found an link to download(not sure if it was the right thing to do)
another thing i have the clockworkmod already on my phone but just in case downloaded the 4ext to my PC and saved it as "recovery.img" now what should i do?
thank you for ur petience

if you already have clockwork mod, all you have to do is make sure you phone is off (pull the battery, or turn off hibernate mode)
hold down power + volume down
you will enter the bootloader, give it a few seconds to load
use the volume keys to scroll to recovery and hit power to select
then simply wipe everything and flash the rom
ps. youll need android SDK to get the latest adb and fastboot files

Honestly, if I were you, I would go ahead & flash 4ext recovery. It is more stable & from the looks of things, you don't need any more problems than you already have. After you get recovery flashed, or if you choose to use cwm anyway, do this:
1- hold volume down + power you should enter the bootloader.
2- scroll down with the volume button until recovery is hilighted, & press power button to select.
3- You should be in recovery, and if so, choose "wipe data / factory reset" then "wipe cache" then "wipe dalvik"
4- Next, " format system, format data, format boot"
5 Next, choose install from sdcard.. choose zip from sdcard & find the Rom you have on your sdcard. Wait until it installs completely. Then reboot.
6. At this point be very patient and let it load. It could take several minutes...up to 5 or 6
And in a nutshell that is it..

If I were the op I would leave my phone completely stock and do some more research before proceeding any further. If you break your phone you won't know how to fix it with your current android knowledge.

I agree...I made that mistake & Jack_R1 helped me til he got pissed off,(rightfully so), & I realized it only takes a couple of days to read people's situations and you really learn more that way. I started off with an HTCDEV unlocked device, and it took me 2 days to figure out that I bootlooped it by flashing a 2.21 boot.IMG on a 2.34 Rom. I ended up figuring it out w/ jack_r1 helping me. Finally I relocked it and rooted it properly. Now, I can do it from start to finish in about 5 minutes or so...downgrading and all. But its best to read til u understand.

Would you believe me if i told you that it was a problem with the battery? I changed it to a new one and its all good (so far) i really hope that was the problem. If anything I'll do the steps that you adviced me ))
BUT I still have the problem to log in to the internet except google page and apps. I had it for a long time before but i don't know what causing it, i could log in with firefox thouh, what could be the problem?
thank you all again.
I would. A new battery fixed my co-worker's Desire S, that started crashing all around.

Thanks. Going to try this now. Fingers crossed!
Edit: Ok. Successful install on the first try. A few problems though. 3g doesn't work (known issue) and I haven't been able to get link2sd working again just yet. There's a lot more ram to play with and the overall performance thus far is awesome. Its like my phone got a new engine. Everything is fast and zippy and runs as smooth as butter.

I didnt have that problem with mine. Didnt have to use that fix as it was working just fine without going through that. Unfortunately I bricked mine after I stupidly reinstalled the flipout bootloader again. (DO NOT do that). Its stuck in an endless boot loop. Im unable to flash the sbf for froyo through RSD Lite because the phone switches off when its plugged into the pc. Which means its bricked unless i can get an official update.zip to flash through the bootloader manually. (i doubt that would even work because you cant downgrade with an update.zip file afaik)

Why would you reinstall the flipout bootloader?? after installing the cm7 its recovery is installed as well. to enter it all you have to do is hit reboot and the recovery from your power menu. sounds like u messed up bigtime
I know. I really messed up. I think I did it to reflash the rom to bring it back to stock settings. I carried it back to the store I bought it. My warranty is still valid and they don't have the technical means to figure out whether I tampered with the software. I'll likely get a new one or another one worth the same value I paid for the flipside.
I was about to sell it to a friend anyway as I'm more interested in the galaxy nexus. I guess it's not all that bad. If I do get it or a new one back, I'll donate it to someone working on the ROM. So in the end, we all win.
