if you installed clockwork mode on your phone, it's easy to install a custom rom.
To get VR 13 you have to download the rom first and copy it to your SD card root. After that you have to reboot your phone into recovery mode, by pressing for a few seconds Home + Power button when the phone is OFF.
After entering the recovery mode, i recommend you do the next steps that are very easy?
1. Backup you existing ROM (the is a section that is called Backup and Restore)
2. Wipe phone data
3. Wipe cache partition
4. Go to advanced -> and wipe dalvik
5. Press back to get back to the main menu and chose to install zip from SD card and after that Chose the ZIP and select the VR 13 ZIP and install it.
6.After installation i recommend that you flash Flykernel 13. You install it just like the rom. You chose the zip and install it. After flashing the kernel you reboot your phone and wait 10 minutes
7. When the phone is ready it enters setup mode and you know what to do from there
8. Ejnoy the new rom
If you have any other problems leave a message.
Stefan

It means you shouldn't save it to a folder on the SD-card

Sorry missed the other questions
1)Yes it should work in Canada
2)The backup is saved to your SD-card in the clockworkmod-folder, it will then display in rom manager (if it's installed).
You can also get to the backup through the recovery. (The same place were you installed the rom) by holding home+power on startup
Cheers

many thanks, will give it a try, Mike

When I hold the home and power and it comes on I just get a red Triangle, I have Titanium back up and did a full back-up and used ROM manager as well, any suggestions, thanks,
my phone is fully rooted

You need to install a recovery.
Tap "Flash ClockworkMod recovery" in rom manager. When it's done follow stefpaul's instructions

You install it just like the rom. You chose the zip and install it.

Help with Re-flashing and Roms

I want to install a Rom on my phone but before I do I have some noob questions.
What does re-Flashing your phone do, and how does it prepare your phone for the new Rom.
Do I need to adb shell my phone before I re-flash it?
(My phone is already rooted)
I'm sort of new to hacking so im not entirely sure but... when u flash your device, essentially you are putting a custom Rom( software) on it and it won't run the software that originally shipped with the phone.
I don't think u need to put your phone in adb mode, I use Rom manager from the Android market and this will allow you to install roms and back up your Rom. Rom manager is great because it let's you install or even update your Rom without the use of a computer. Remember to back your phone up with it before you install the custom rom.

Reflashing is technically completely removing the original HTC recovery and replacing it with another one (such as Koush's ClockworkMod). A custom recovery is required to install a Custom ROM (such as Cyanogenmod or any of the other numerous ROMS available). There's a How To thread in the development section that explains all of this in detail and unrEVOked just released version 3.0 which is a one click root/reflash. I'd suggest reading the How to first, then researching the different custom recoveries available before actually proceeding with the installation of a custom ROM as, with all things hacking, there is a small chance that you could brick your phone.
ok another noob question...
I rooted using unrevoked 3.0 on my Mac and I installed ROM manager.
1. I have access to sd card on my mac, does it matter where I put the zip file?
2. when I tried to load, my device said that I needed to mount sd card, but under settings, this was not an option...help?
Update: Do I need to partition cad....or use a different card and partition it, since I will wipe card? please advise...thank you.

When you get your rom in a .zip file you can feel free to put it wherever you like on your sd card. Once you are ready to install a rom reboot into recovery (by using volume down and the power button or select "reboot into recovery" in rom manager) and once you are at a screen with "Clockworkmod recovery 2.0.2.x" go to "Install zip from sdcard" and select the option with your trackpad button. From there you can go through your sd card and select whatever .zip that you want from whatever directory.

This is the best sticky for any n00b I used it to get started with roms and now I'm a seasoned flasher! Haha, but seriously, this answer all of your questions and explains what you are doing step by step.
Thanks for your help....worked like a dream! I am rockin froyo now!

Openfire ROM Problem

Apologies for the double post but I'm dying to get my wildfire back working.
Rooted it yesterday with unrevoked, attempted to add the Openfire ROM this morning with everything going fine untill the reboot. I'm now stuck on the white HTC screen and have been for the last hour. Any help would be great, cheers.
did u do nandriod back up first
Sent from my Archos5 using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
I backed up the stock firmware I already had manually, before it prompted on the flash.
did you do a full wipe before flashing the rom?
No i didn't, thought it would be safer incase something went wrong?
run your restore then I couldn't get it to work either
Sent from my Archos5 using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
if you did a nandroid backup of your stock rom then you should be fine to wipe, since you did not wipe and flashed the new rom over your stock rom, apps and settings will conflict, therefore not work...
Right I see, I'm currently going through what I'm guessing is the restore....recovery - Nandroid, I'll let you know how I get on.
Thanks again.
Nope I seem to be getting nowhere here, can someone point me in the direction of the restore?
you didn't do nandroid backup did you haha, you'll have to install an RUU file to return to stock rom, or just do a full wipe and flash a new rom like openfire or wildpuzzle.
Where can I find the RUU file and how do I access my SD card? USB won't let me get to it, I'm guessing the phone is in charge mode?
go into recovery - partitons menu - mount sd card (or somthing like that) to open your memory card
Spot on, I'm on downloading an ruu file now, going to load it up with a stock rom then try flashing it again, but wiping it this time.
Infact how do I do a full wipe? I'm after the easiest way to get the phone booting up so I can flash it properly?
Anyone?
I'm still no further than I was three hours ago!
EDIT:
BREAKTHROUGH!!! =D
Restored it to before I flashed it incorrectly. Nearly threw the phone across the room in excitement.
go into clockwork recovery and click the title "wipe data/factory reset" and then flash the ROM you want to use.. to install a ROM:
- "install zip from sdcard"
- "Choose zip from sdcard"
- "click the zipfile"
- "yes"
- "reboot"
and if you want to install RUU dont ask me never done that

From the HBOOT screen go to recovery, then nandroid, restore, and to the appropriate time/date.
I've still had no luck with actually flashing the phone though. Back to Android 2.1 for me.
I'm 99% percent sure you have the OC issue some ppl incl myself on here have - try reinstalling openfire if thats what you wanna use - and then go to wildpuzzle thread - dl 0050 and flash it. If i'm correct phone will be fine and use openfire - but will NOT be overclockable. I wish Jacob had my phone or got hold of a phone w that problem...
I had problems with the Wildpuzzle 8.0.11 ROM, it would just sit there (did a ADB logcat on it, but I've lost the actual log... sorry! ) ignoring a duplicate entry (yeah, I did a full wipe . Removed WP and put on the latest OpenFire ROM... omg... what a difference to the stock ROM! Soooo much faster, even before I overclocked it.
I'd say, if you have boot issues with WP give OpenFire a go. Certainly worked a treat on my Wildfire.

[Q] First time rooting ... is this the right way ?

Hey guys

I'll try this ROM
Floyo 1.1.8
but the rest ?..
Floyo is great! FroydVillain is also good (but imo a little bit bloated). You could always try piecing your own device together from great pieces of work created by various people around XDA (this tends to be what the ROM packagers do, but they put them together in nice neat packages that do a lot of the work for you).
However, for a first rom, Floyo is a great choice!
Zeb
and the rest i listed is correctly ?
And one more question...
Will this rom install wipe my SD-Card ???
No, but if you choose to wipe SD Card Or EXT- Partition than it will !
Okay thanks
Then I'll properly have a rooted hero with android 2.2 at the end of this day
First time Boot
I have rooted now...
How long time should the FLOYO boot screen be there ?
its just goes round and round... and then blink some times...
is this normal ???

Yea, this can take a very long time. Leave it, but if it takes longer than about 30 minutes then I would pull the battery and reboot.
thanks.
How do I boot into recovery if I need that ?
When powering on the phone, push and hold the Power and Home buttons until recovery boots.
Okay, thanks againg

just Wipe everything .. its okay if you dont wipe App2sd Because you going from 1.1.8 to 1.1.9 but its good to wipe everything .. because it affects your ROM & Speed
Hello, its my first time of rooting and installing a custom rom.
I have followed what B4Me has done as far as
1. Universal Androot -> root device
2. ROM manager -> Flash ClockworkMod Recovery...
Ive then used rom manager to partition my sd card
512mb ext size
and 32mb swap size.
Im planning on following Zebwen guide
The Perfect Hero Setup (How to set up your Hero with granular control)
Once ive downloaded all the parts what part of the SD card do i put them in?
When i mount the phone to the computer and open the sd card i have a one folder called rosie_scroll.
And then can i use Rom manager to flash and install the new rom?
Oh and whats the easiest way to completely wipe the phone?
cheers for any help, or a point in the right direction.

If you are using clockwork recovery you can put the zip files anywhere you want on the SD card. I have a folder named roms and I place them all in there.
You can wipe the device through recovery also. When people say "full wipe" they mean to wipe nand, battery stats, rotation, ext... basically all of the wipe options. This will leave your phone with only the recovery mate on it and it will leave the storage area of your SD card intact too.
Once you have done all of this you can go ahead and flash the roms as outlined in the other thread.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
then put new rom on sd-card (ex. Floyo 1.1.8.zip)
turn phone off
turn phone on WHILE holding down the HOME button, till a recovery screens appers.
in here, select first wipe all
then install .zip from sd-card
select the rom (ex. Floyo 1.1.8.zip)
it will then flash, and then you just WAIT and WAIT...
if like mine nothing happens after 40min
pull the battery, and restart the phone, DONT flash again.. just reboot it...
then It should start up after some tries
Spot on, thanks very much for the help.
Is it also advisable to do a nandroid backup?
Or is that not needed with me using the flash clockworkmod recovery in ROM Manager?

[Q] pirate rum

hi
1st off im new to rooting and playing with roms. now ive just loaded up the pirate rum and now when i turn the phone on i cant get past the pirate rum screen and none of the buttons work i cant turn off the phone unless i release the battery
please help i hope ive not ****ed my phone
Can you boot into fastboot by press down the back key while turning the power on? if so see if you can get into recovery
yeah i can do that, what next
wipe the device completely and reflash the ROM
In recovery, use wipe data (warning: this will, as the name suggestst, delete all your data).
Also if you speak german, look for advice in the 'android hilfe' forum, where the rom is supported: http://www.android-hilfe.de/root-ha...8-desire-rom-pirate-rum-sense-nx1-hybrid.html
ive wiped it but sadly i dont speak german so anything i can do now??
Download and flash again (maybe the file was corrupt).
and/or
Get ADB and check the logcat (look around in the forums for instructions).
and/or
Try another ROM.
Hello mate, if it's a stable Sense UI ROM you want to use then I'd recommend LeeDroid or Pinky Desire (although the latter hasn't been updated for a while...)
I suggest wiping all data, then flashing something stable like cyanogen mod 6, just google cyanogen. Download it, put in sdcardand flash in recovery
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
ok imhaving tyrouble with this
how it started.
i rooted with unrevoked
downloaded titanium backup and rom manager from market
then downloaded the pirate rum rom through rom manager
i have clockwork recovery
just tried downloading the cm6 rom but having difficulty
Right honestly i would play around with a sense rom untill you know what you are doing.
Go and download Leedroid from the rom section
Remove your sd card and put into your computer
put the leedroid file (should be a zip) on the root (not in any folders) of your sd card
Put your card and battery back in and turn on while holding the volume down key
Select recovery by using the Vol keys and powre button to select
You should now have some green text (your joy stick will work now also)
Select data/factory wipe
select yes
now use back and select zip from sd card
select your leedroid file and again select yes
it will tell you when its don, hit the back key again and select reboot.
it will take a while 5-10min to install but just leave it

ClockworkMod Recovery not showing some ROM zip files

Hi Friends
I have been facing an issues with ClockworkMod Recovery since last night. Its been two or three days I have been flashing like mad man . Flashed many different ROMs and when I went to try another one it was not showing ROM in the root of SD card. I formated the card and tried again but no gain.
I flashed another recovery version but still the same problem.
Now it shows some ROM zip files and it does not show other. Yesterday I tried Coredroid and it did work then I installed hyperdroid and now again I want to install coredroid but its not showing though hyperdroid is visible.
What could be the problem and how to solve this.
Please guide.
Thanks
no idea man bt try resetting everythin and then loadin the rom..follow these steps
Run all flashes with admin rights
1. download task 29 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=644781[/INDENT]
2. when the phone starts immedately keep lower vol key pressed..load the rom there itself after connecting usb.
3. then (sing step 2 flash hspl 2.08 not 2.08.00)
3. then flash magldr v 1.13 rom update (again using step 2)
4.then flash latest cwm usin "5 USB Flasher" in the magldr v1.13 menu
5. now after reboot goto ad recovery(this will load cwm)
6. in cwm go into mounts and storage and mount usb mass storage
7. save rom file
8. use install zip frm sd card
9. choose zip and install
10. now reboot
Worked for me. hope it works for u. i have attached rest of the the files needed.
