Hi,
Recently i've been having problems with some of Google Now's voice commands. Prior to the Google Now update last week I was able to set myself reminders using my voice i.e "Remind me that dinner is ready in 20 minutes" - This would then set an alarm on my phone to remind me in 20 minutes time.
However when I use that same command now, it saves a "note" instead and does not remind me.
I've also noticed that some of the other commands I used to use (Play, Listen to, Navigate To etc) now result in a Google Search instead.
Wondered if anyone could help?
Same issue here.
I used google now for boiling eggs. For instance, telling Now to "set alarm in 8 minutes" would alarm me in 8 minutes.
What it does now is it sets an alarm at 8pm, titled "minutes". This actually made me overcook my eggs yesterday, haha.
I cleared the app's cache but to no avail. I haven't bothered clearing the app data. This probably is the new way this command is handled, and I hope they will revert it. By the way, do you happen to have Google Keep installed? I'm thinking that the note-setting may be related to that...
Same here... Google now seems a bit more like siri to me

Yeah I downloaded Google Keep a few days before the commands stopped working. I'll try uninstalling it now and see if that makes a difference. If it is the new way the command is handled, I hope Google revert it back to the old way.

I froze Google Keep with titanium backup. It's still saving notes when I don't want it to, and the timer won't work either.
Use the command. set timer 8 minutes
See if that works for you because that is still working for me and I am stock non rooted all apps updated

Are you guys using a custom kernel or just custom rom. I'm wondering why Google now would make our phones behave differently

'Set timer' also worked for me. Using AKOP 4.2.2
Woah, are you on the last version of google search as well? And American english set as system language? This is interesting and strange at the same time.

Edit: I'm on franco's kernel by the way. I don't see how that would make a difference to Google Now behaviour though.

Then find "Google Search", and under Cache, hit "Clear cache".
That didn't fix it for me, though. d'awwww
All good for me. "set reminder to ... at 9 o'clock tonight' set an alarm with almost the right description. I'd like it better if it went into tasks instead though and set a reminder alarm.
"Set timer for 1 minute" also set an alarm for 1 minute from current time.
On HTC One running 4.1.2

Also, stock-rooted. Brought up Now and said 'set alarm for 10:10 am'. Now says 'setting alarm' and gave me an alarm notification. Alarm went off at 10:10. Then I said 'wake me up in 10 minutes' and Now said, 'setting alarm' and gave an alarm notification for 10 minutes later. I could do this from the swipe up to google now or from the voice search icon I placed in the Nova launcher dock. Are you sure you have Google Now active in the Now settings?
And location services must be on I believe. That's so they know where they need to go to wake you up
I just tried 5 minutes and it sets the alarm. Also a web search result popped up for a second then disappeared.
Not rooted.
System Language must be set to "English (United States)" in order to perform those voice commands.
I don't understand why, but this is the only language setting with working "wake me up/remind me" commands.

I've had the same thing (rooted tablet). First it would just show up search results. Then it started working (sort of). It said it was setting the alarm for 10 minutes but i got a toast notification saying it was said for 5 hours.
Could it be the recent google search update?

The weirdest thing about it
My phone's Google Now wins all awards (Rooted, Jelly Bean 4.1.2 by Bruce2728) of weirdness!
Everything less than 6 hours works! So
"wake me up after 6 hours"
sets an alarm
BUT
"wake me up after 7 hours"
does NOT work and just does a Google search.
For those of you it's working, can you check if it's the same for you? In less than 6, all rounded minutes OR rounded hours work.
More interesting observations:
Wake me up after <any non rounded minutes or hours like these above> goes to Google search.
Explicit alarm commands like "set alarm" and not "wake me up" like : "Set an alarm for after <any value less than 6 hours" actually adds the value to current time, but the same command for anything more than 6 (like 7) sets an alarm for that absolute hour, like 7 in the morning.
It listens correctly, but doesn't set correct alarms for non-rounded minutes or hours like "set an alarm after 1 hour and 30 minutes" or "set an alarm after 1.5 hours" sets incorrect alarms in these two cases
Wierd. Wake me in 6 hours sets the alarm for six hours from now, wake me in 7 gives search results exactly as you said. I can 'set alarm for 7 am' and that works.

Nice to know others are seeing the same problem. I had read somewhere that 6 hours is the minimum sleep you should take daily to still be healthy enough. May be Google doesn't want us to sleep more and do some work instead
Try this just for kicks -
Say "remind me to wake up in seven hours"
what happens?
Humm ... Very strange. Creates an alarm if I say "remind me to wake up in six hours" by adding 6 hours in the current time, but if I say 7, again says "setting alarm", but just gives me to the link to 'Set alarm' myself and takes me to the alarm app if I click that. Doesn't set any time itself !
Doesn't work for any hour after 6. What's up Google !!
setting alarm with google now!

So this has been happening to me ever since I flashed CM11 last week. But my situation is strange. I have 2 Google accounts, my main and a secondary that is only used for Gmail, Drive and Contacts syncing. Nothing else is checked in the Accounts setting page to be syncing. But according to BatterBatteryStats, my secondary account is running the Sound Search wakelock 95% of the time my phone is powered on. I removed the account entirely, problem solved. Added it again, problem is back. I use this Gmail a lot and would like to have it syncing. Any ideas?
You can specifically disable only the sync for Sound Search in the settings. I don't know what else you can do if you don't want to turn that off.

You could try to disable sound search (settings>apps>all> sound search>disable).

Strangely enough, Sound Search doesn't show up in the things to sync with that secondary account. It shows up for my primary account, but not the one that causes the issues. Sorry, should've mentioned that before.

I meant disable/freeze the whole app, not just syncing (it's a single app, right?). You can do it in settings, like i said before, so it won't sync, whatever account you use.

I'm having the exact same problem. Only happening when I add the second account. That account doesn't have the option to sync Sound Search. And even if I disable / freeze the Sound Search app, the battery stats report a insane usage for Sound Search.
I have the same I issue, but I don't have any checkbox to disable only sound search in my account settings.
Dear all,
I would like to hear from you about Google Now shortcut and "always listening" feature like we find on Moto X. I'm tempted about Moto X price/specs but I'm kind of disapointed about his camera and would like to know if is there a way to use those features (always listening with google now) on Note 4.
I read about some tweaks with Tasker killing S-Voice and lauching Google Now instead but I'm searching for a more "natural" alternative.
Is there any chance to get this on note 4?
Nova Launcher allows you to enable that on any phone, and I am enjoying it on my M8
If its not "default" on the note4, I will just enable it that way..

well, I have had it activated almost from the first day I had my M8, so not sure what the battery impact is..my battery still lasts all day, which is what I expect from any modern flagship phone..
and yes, it only works when the phone screen is on, but I use gravity screen anyways, so once I pick up my phone, the screen comes on anyways.
I will be curious to see how the newest version of S Voice works on the Note 4..

Yes only when screen on. There is an app (don't remember it's name, just google it) that enables it when screen is off, but that will drain a lot battery.

Unfortunately, It seems that is not just port the app. If I understood well reading AnandTech review and other posts on this thread the responsible for "always listening" is a dedicated CPU from Texas Instruments called C55x. Using openMic or any other tweak without the proper hardware is just a dirty solution.

Till two or three days ago I thought the same, that's why I didn't understand the reason no other brand (sony, samsung...) was implementing the 'always listening' since they use the same SoC. But according to others, the c55x is the reponsible for this and not the S801/S805.
"Always-on" function gone and replaced by "From any screen". Why?
When you go to the settings of Google Search/Voice/OK Google Detection/
one should see the "Always-on" option.
I used to have it, but right now it´s gone and got replaced by "From any screen". I don´t know how that happened.
The problem is, "From any screen" doesn´t work when the display is OFF.
The "Always-on"-function does work also when the display is OFF.
I already re-installed Google Search, but that didn´t help either.
Anyone got an idea how to get the "Always-On"-function back?

I saw in another thread to disable all the "OK Google" options. There are two in the settings of the Google App, and then the one in the phone language and input settings for the Google Voice Typing.
Since I've done this, I've gain roughly 3-4 more hours by my estimate (haven't recorded data).

Just changed those settings. Did it take a bit for the android system usage to go down?

Did you previously have it set for only when in the Google app, or all the time? And do you still have Google Now enabled?

Go to the Google app (Google Now), settings, then voice.
After today's update, the android system drain seems to be way less. As of typing this it shows as 12% instead of mid 20's to mid 30's.
Does this app work for anyone on the AT&T variant of the v20? I get a force close every time after attempting to open a new Memo. Also when I click Capture+ from the notification bar pulldown menu.

Thanks for checking. I did try that but it's not working. It hasn't worked since I first got the phone. Searched Google and didn't find anything and haven't seen anyone else post about it here.
It's strange that its never worked and I have no idea what would be causing it to FC.

If you're using a task-killing app,it is likely the culprit,ditch it & don't look back.
If not,check the following:
Go to SETTINGS > APPS > QUICK MEMO+ & ensure that all app permissions are enabled.
Also,go to SETTINGS > BATTERY & POWER SAVING,tap on BATTERY USAGE & scroll down to Ignore optimizations & choose QUICK MEMO+
Other than that, the only other recommendation I have is to clear all the app data from QuickMemo+ & try again.

Thanks I'll give it a shot. Have done all the clears; cache, data, force stop. Not running a task killer....I'll post my results.

Negative. It's not asking for permissions, I ignored battery saver, and still I cannot hit the add button without it Force Closing.
Capture+ now just does nothing when I click on it.... So strange

Very odd, I've got nothing.
Outside of a factory reset or device replacement, I'm stumped.
May be an effort in futility, but, I'd drop this on an AT&T associate in-store,see what they come up with.

I appreciate your help. It's just one of those little things that irk me. I'm very happy with the phone and everything is working great so no need to return it. Not sure about AT&T (just switched) but if it's anything like Verizon going there would be a complete waste of time.
I'm coming from the 5x and prior to that, quite a few years if rooting and custom ROMs. Like I said I'm very happy with this device but I wanted to try and take advantage of as much of the stock software as possible, since I'm so used to customizing my phone to the exact same setup for so long.
I'll live with it, and again thanks for your help.
