Quick analogy:
Computer with a cable connection sharing Ad-Hoc connection.
Device *1 with root connected to the Ad-Hoc connection.
Device *2 can't connect to Ad-Hoc connection because its not rooted.
Question: How do i share a connected wifi connection with device *1 to *2?
If you have Windows 7 there are apps like Connecify-Me that turn your computer into a wireless AP.
Windows XP, and it can only share Ad-Hoc. Still need help.
BUMP!!!!!
Root the second device? Do you have another computer?
use router
Please clarify your problem, like
Os, Ad-hoc network......etc?

Very clearly you can use router with any operating system.

Hi All,
I need some help with WIFI. I've set up my pc (connected via ethernet) to share internet via an Ad Hoc WIFI connection. The connection works but I have to manually connect to it every time. How do I make Android treat Ad Hoc networks same as Router based WIFI?
Thanks
I can't answer your question but I can, however, provide you with a possible workaround.
If you're using Windows 7, download and install a free software called Connectify. It turns your PC into a full blown access point. Just used it during a trip to share a hotel ethernet connection and it worked like a charm.
Thanks for replying. I heard about connectify but I use XP.
I got myself a laptop, and I would like to share internet from my pc via phone to my laptop! i know that a solution for this is buying an wifi router, but i'm not interested in this.
my question is how can i make my computer share internet with my phone?
Why don't you search... answer is all around.
If you want to access internet on your pc through your phone.. you can do it by connecting through USB and opting settings>Wireless Control>Mobile network sharing. OR using Wireless tethering on your phone and access it as an AP.
on reverse way if you want to use a wired internet network of your PC by your phone, you can make your laptop a wireless AP by running some wireless router software (connectify is one).
enjoy!!
i would like to found a rom with wireless tether who's working

Sadly our tattoo can't tether over WiFi in infrastructure mode (the "normal" wireless mode which is used by WiFi routers and access points). I've been told it's because of limitations with tatto's wireless adapter firmware. This means that you can only tether over WiFi in adhoc mode, that is a mode created for wireless networks that don't have a central access point or a router. This kind of network is normally NOT seen from PCs, tablets and most WiFi devices out there. There are some ways to make PCs "see" the adhoc network, but there's no chances with tablets and other "dumber" devices. Instead it's possible to use adhoc networks with most rooted android devices. If you want to use tatto to tether the connection with an unrooted android tablet it's better for you to use the bluetooth option from wireless tether (but I bet that barnacle have it too). It seems to work seamlessly (at least on Motorola Xoom and Asus Transformer).

However, to tether with a PC, the most reliable way is to plug the USB cable both into the phone and into the PC, and finally start USB tether from the "Wireless & Networks" section in the main menu. This way the PC sees the tattoo just like an usb ethernet adapter. It works perfectly on both windows and linux.

I have a rooted tattoo with nFinityGB 1.11. I also use Wireless Tether. I just can't see the network when I do wifi tether on both PC and tablet. Instead it works good with tablet via bluetooth. I've never heard about someone being able to create an infrastructure network for tethering on tattoo. How do you do?
ok, so i potentially posted this in the wrong area....
sorry...

hi.
so i have a HTC Desire HD, on orange UK.
im running a webserver from my laptop for development purposes...
i was wondering how i can access it from another internet connection while im tethering?
(assuming my router has port 80 forwarded to the laptop) i am easily able to gain access to the web server simply by navigating to http://<my.ip.add.ress>/ from another internet connection....
how would i go about doing this while tethered to my phone? i assume it is possible, as a torrent client seems to be able to upload and download while tethered... i assume it would be something to forward internal port 80 access through to my laptop? :S
when tethered, both my laptop and phone have the same external ip address, so im assuming it would all be done through the hotspot stock app on my phone...
any useful information would be great, thanks..

If I understand you correctly, when you tether your laptop to your phone you would like to hit the web server on your laptop from another internet connection, correct?
If that is the case then you would need some type of virtual router app installed on your phone to use in conjunction with your tethering program where you could forward the appropriate Ports to your laptop. (set to a static internal IP) I am not aware of any app like that and a quick market search and Google search yielded nothing. That does not mean it doesn't exist.
Perhaps this would be a good project for a dev as the need for it is going to become more prevalent.

Maybe look at some free dns servers to set up on your laptop. It has been a while since I used one but I seem to recall that some of them broadcast on Ports you specify, and that may negate the need for the router app on your phone since the laptop is already broadcasting on that port. The phone will automatically forward the incoming request because it sees the outgoing broadcast from the laptop.
Actually you would probably need an app that replaced your tether app that confines a configurable router with the tethering.
Are you tethering wirelessly?
Hi guyzz thx for developing such a beautiful site it helped me a lot and also i have learned new things about android but from few days i am searching for USB internet to Android, I mean in my office i have internet and i want to use it for my android but dont know how to so please help me to find this ... how can i use my computers internet to my android..
thanks
create a WiFi network on your computer then connect the phone to it . just Google internet sharing software you will get many software's.
This is if you want to make a wifi direct connection with internet acces on a windows pc. It creates a virtual router on your windows pc.
Open CMD and type in the following:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid="your wifi ssid" key="your password"
You can start and stop the virtual router this way:
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
netsh wlan stop hostednetwork
Make sure you enabled internet sharing in network centrum for your normal wifi adapter to have internet acces.

If you want to have the "reversed tethering" with usb cable (from pc to android) you will need to have root acces and special pc drivers. Creating a virtual wifi network is the easiest.
