Hi everyone,
I have encountered this problem with every ROM I have tried.
The problem, which is always visible mainly in the calendar app, is that the different colors of the calendars are always extremely dark, almost black! On my pc they are bright red, bright green and so on. I didn't change their colors on the phone.
It's an issue that comes up with every ROM. The colors aren't supposed to be that dark! The dark blu you see, i.e., is actually light blu on my pc!
Currently I am running PA and franco kernel. I also bought Franco's app hoping that the so much talked of gamma correction could do something but nope...
Is there any solution?
Running stock would probably fix it.
I know, but I don't want to run stock!
Somebody must have encountered the same problem
Use the franco app, and change the values. Play with brightness, contrast etc. The colours can be tweaked to your liking.

I'm seeing some backlight issues with certain shades of grey on my Nexus 4. It happens in certain places in the settings menu (near the bottom where it blends into grey) and even TWRP's grey background when backing up a rom. Franco's gamma settings help a lot, but the problem is still noticeable at higher brightness. Does anyone else have the same problem or am i being too picky? My iPod touch 4g had a horrendous problem like this where a certain shade of grey would show all these dark blotches on the screen. I figured it was due to the LCD/backlight.
Seeing this on P.A, TWRP and Stock rom.

I have the same thing but I'm just now noticing it.
Also, this may be related, whenever I flash PA and go back into twrp recovery, it takes unusually longer to boot into recovery and then I see these yellowish streaks/distortion going throughout the screen in recovery and it appears to carry over into the ROM when I system reboot.
It's happened several times, but it appears to be only when I flash PA and it goes away when I flash another ROM+kernel. I'm going to see if I can reproduce it and take a picture of it next time it happens. But after the obvious streaks went away, I noticed those gray lines, but if you look closely, there's horizontal lines too making a grid, though the vertical lines are more apparent
I feel your pain.

I also have this problem and many others. I have read many threads but no one really has the answer. I tried different Kernels and it helps but its still there.
I dont think we are being to picky, its just that we like things to be as perfect as possible, but there is no such thing.

I have had this issue from my first nexus 4, which I had issued an RMA request about this problem. My second n4 was fine and this is definitely a defect of the LCD screen.
I've spoken to a few people and checked their Nexus 4's and sure enough, they've all got it too. I think i was being too picky. It really isn't noticable unless i'm in a dark room and the brightness is high and i'm focusing on the screen. Day to day usage, i almost forget about it. It also helps that it only shows up on a certain grey colour.
Its just an effect mate, Ive seen it on everyones screenshot when they are showing there settings menu or something.
I'm having an issue with the camera. It seems to have issues measuring the light sometimes. If I go from bright to dark or dark to bright quite frequently it doesn't readjust to the different level of light. I have to switch from auto flash to flash on, focus, and then switch back to auto flash, then the light and colour balance is correct.
I9505, on rootbox, tried PAC, PA and CM, all same issue. No problems on stock
Nobody got any ideas?

I know this is kind of a generic answer, but maybe make sure your White Balance is set to Auto?
Can anyone make an ultimate fix for galaxy s4 smearing?
Are you talking about the graphical smearing/tearing that happens when you, for example, scroll?
This is caused by the pixels. In AMOLED devices, when a pixel shows black, it is actually turned off. However, there is a delay when turning that pixel back on. So if pixels have to change from black to colored and vice versa (for example, scrolling through your app drawer if it has a black background), this graphical glitch occurs because of the delay from turning the pixels off and on.
Samsung has rectified this issue on their stock ROMs by eliminating true black, making the pixels always on. This will also negate the battery saving effects of AMOLED displays when showing black. This is the only way I know to fix the problem.
If you were referring to another "smearing" please elaborate and we may be able to help better.
I'm talking about that one that you said.. but in 3rd part apps in 4.3 stock android roms there isn't any fix ,apart Screen adjuster setting contrast -10, i wanted to know if someone can change blacks in very dark grey keeping the other colors , not changing all the colors setting contrast -10 or SmearFix app

Hi, started this thread to see if anyone had the same problem I'm having with my screen.
I have a Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 (Octa-core variation), it is running 4.4.2, rooted, stock Touchwiz.
The problem is that the screen starts to flicker almost as if it would want to turn off, when in low light conditions and auto-brightness on, it continues to flicker unless I set the brightness between +2 and +5. I can reproduce the issue without auto-brightness setting the brightness to the lowest, one notch above the lowest and there is no flickering. It is noticeable in white backgrounds and also when swiping down the notification center, that's the most noticeable instance but you can see it in the home screen and in any app.
I started noticing it when I had 4.2.2 Jelly bean (rooted), and I updated to Kitkat hoping it would be solved but it is the same, I updated through Kies and rooted, no Factory reset, I want to try that as last resort.
Funny thing I discovered is when I set Juice Defender to control my brightness it does not flicker even in -60% brightness, but when the dimming happens before the screen turns off it does flicker (and the dimming thing is controlled by the OS I think, not Juice Defender).
I wish I could put up a video but I don't have another phone to film it.
Anyone know if this is software or hardware? What can I do?
I'd like to add, that I changed the battery, disabled overlays in developers option, forced GPU rendering, tried Pimp my rom and played with all the settings, checked and unchecked every option in Display settings and it still flickered given the low brightness conditions.
I think I've found the best solution out there for most annoying screen flickering issues... Done a substential amount of digging and finally discovered the app "Twillight" works like a charm by enabling backlight control feature... Try it out first, then thank me and share your experience here ...
Not sure if many of you have noticed but on the Moto X it seems the backlight will slightly flicker to adjust to colors on the screen. It is most noticeable when the brightness is on minimum setting in a dark room and occurs even though auto brightness is off. Simply going from my launcher page 1 to 2 will flicker my brightness 4 times.
I've seen this issue before on another device running a custom CM rom, so I figured it must be a software issue. Which I think I traced to being the color mode of the display. Go to Settings > Color Mode > Select Normal, this should fix the issue if it bothers you. If you use a custom kernel try using KCal to modify the display colors instead.
Let me know if you have this issue on your device, or if my eyes are just crazy. :silly:
Update: When watching youtube videos in full screen my display still flickers the brightness. I also set my lowest brightness to 1 in Gravitybox. So I don't understand why the brightness wants to flicker.
I noticed the same thing while using my phone in a dark room. My immediate thought was to change the color mode in the settings but it made no difference.
What rom and kernel are you using?

Just tried to replicate the problem on cm13 but everything worked fine. I only get this issue with stock or stock based roms
