Are configurations needed in Vista to make it work as it does in OSX?

Is anyone having problems with adb and vista?
When I start the adb shell I can type about 2 or 3 commands and then it stops responding. When I type the 3rd command or so instead of it going back to # at the command prompt it just goes to the next line with out a prompt.
Also when this happens I go to task manager and try to shut down the adb.exe but it won't I have to reboot my computer.
I have a laptop and a usb keyboard when I start have the problems with adb my key board wont work ether. So I have tried it with out the usb key board but have the same problem.
I have also tried running adb and xp compatible but still have the same problem. Is there anything else I can use other than adb?
I am having problems as well. I flashed my custom boot image yesterday and now today it is saying that it cannot find my device. It has worked since December and then today, nothing. In Need of Help.
What version of vista are you using??,,, additionally this should be moved to the "Dream" Section
I have Ultimate x64, have no issues. I assume you have the proper drivers as you can do a couple commands, yes??
Vista 32 Ultimate here and I've never had an issue. Go to the Device Manager and see what it shows when ADB stops working. Sounds like your USB controllers are taking a ****.
I'm using vista 32 bit. I think I'm haveing a usb conflict.
Sorry for posting in the wrong forum
I have Ultimate x64 and no problems.
I had a problem with the driver that was configured to G1. Maybe..
I have Vista Home Premium x64. On Vista SP1 I had no problems. After upgrading to SP2 the adb will connect once and in Eclipse I can get a few commands through, then it hangs. After that I cannot kill the adb process, nor get any response from an adb command.
When I roll back to SP1 it works again. Though under SP1 it is still not completely stable, however it is always possible to kill the adb process and connect the device again.
Ive tried searching now for about 2 hours for a fix.
Ive just installed windows 7 x64 pro and i can not get it to work with my HD. It will not recognize it at all. Ive had various problems, always seems different.
Ive tried turning off the enable fast data. This changed the problem, but didnt fix it.
At the moment, i have that enabled and the problem from what i can tell is, in device manager Microsoft Windows Remote Adapter is not working.
If i disable fast data, i get a connecting to host message on my HD screen and nothing else really happens.
Ive tried updating the USB drivers, but that will not work, something to do with unsigned drivers.
Under mobile devices in device manager i get PocketPC USB Sync instead of the HTC usb Sync thing.
Is there a solution for this please?
With me it worked on windows 7x64 straight out of the box. I suggest re-installing win 7.
I'd have to agree, using Windows x64 Professional here and both my Touch HD and my partners work fine (I had to allow Windows to download an updated version of Windows Mobile Device Center first though).
I do not suggest reinstalling Win 7. Geez. Sorry, but that's using an axe to trim a toenail.
Try downloading and reinstall the x64 version of Windows Mobile Device Center. Make sure you get version 6.1. Do not download any driver updates meant for Vista - you don't need them. But this main file will be marked Vista - it includes you too.
Next, it's possible that when you first plugged in the blackstone, a driver install got canceled or didn't happen right. Use your hardware manager and look for any new generic devices or HID devices. You can try deleting the hardware from the list and asking device manager to look again.
MAKE SURE YOU CLOSE WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER.
Good luck.
Installed windows 7 last week.... i mainly use this pc at home and at work i use XP.
Anyway just connected it now to my notebook and after some driver downloads from windows the phone works fine...
make sure u download the latest mobile device center.
I had the same with my Topaz and windows 7. The fix was to disable the windows firewall while syncing.
This solved my sync problems with Windows 7 ultimate x64
Open notepad
write the text : net localgroup Administrators LocalService /add
save the file as e.g. HTC.bat somewhere on your hard drive where you can find it
Locate with Windows Explorer the .Bat file you just edited
Rightclick on the bat fil
select "run as administrator"
restart your computer. Your HTCH Touch HD should connect without problems
Anyone know if/how I can flash NAND via Macbook / virtual machine? I've tried via virtual machine (WIndows XP) but continue to get Error [238]: File Read, The update utility cannot update the requested file...
Any suggestions?
I got the same from a win7 vmware install, i double checked the usb settings each time, but no luck.
With another native xp laptop, it worked. Maybe a bootcamp install will work.....
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
you'll have to use bootcamp, the vm's will drop the connection and not auto remount during the process can be very dangerious for your hd2
Confirming sucessful HSPL+MAGLDR+DAF installs using win7(64bit) via Bootcamp on Macbook pro 17in.
since i got hd2 i have macbook pro using bootcamp everything works flashing etc works great but not virtual machine will never works
Thanks for confirmation all, kinda thought so. Looks like it's time to reinstall Boot Camp
Managed to get it working using 64-bit Windows 7 on the latest version of VMWare Fusion - I get a dialog asking me if I want to connect Microsoft MAGLDR to the virtual machine - no problems flashing at all, although connection is a little slow.
i7 Macbook Pro 15" - 10.6.5

Virtualbox has pretty good usb support...I've flashed a radio rom via it before but never a full rom....
I am having issues with adb getting to work. I have tried every tutorial under the sun. I have uninstalled, reinstalled and stopped windows from automatically updating the driver yet it keeps installing the stupid mass storage driver for it. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
You didn't mention what version of windows. It is fine for me with XP sp3.
However,if I have virtual box running then I get the driver install dialog.
I am running win7 64 bit I think I might end up trying virtual box with xp on it and if I don't get it then I will be back it seems no one has responded to any of my threads. Any ideas would be great though.
I can't get adb on Ubuntu under virtual box on XP to work. Stop virtual box and adb on XP is fine. Leave virtual box running and adb fails - windows insists on trying to install the virtual box (or other) driver when I connect the NC.
For me, the Nook Color has always be troublesome to get the ADB to connect and work.
I seem to find that the app adbWireless works all the time for me. Instead of trying to connect adb through the USB port which always seems to have driver issues for me, it connects it through the wireless connection. No drivers needed.

I wonder if anyone has a fix for this. I haven't seen the exact symptom posted but I may have missed it.
Two computers: First, windows 7, android sdk installed, adb works perfectly fine.
Second, is a windows xp virtual machine (xVM virtualbox) with the USB device passed through from the host (windows 7). On this one, 'adb devices' shows the Fire (it lists the serial number and "device") but if I try to 'adb shell' it just hangs, or 'adb logcat' just repeatedly says '- waiting for device -').
Not sure if it is an xp issue or with trying to use the virtual machine... it's not a big deal because I can always use my desktop, but if it's possible, I would like to be able to do this in the existing virtual machine. I might just create a linux vm too which would be ok.
I use vmware and works perfect
Works great in a linux vm too so I am happy now
