WP copy cats - Windows Phone 8 General

A while back ago I started a thread about Android phones that were using some questionable WP tiles but it was closed stating that it had no merit. but I found this; now before you guys start going off the hook into fan boy battle; please just voice your opinions in a civilized manner and don't get my thread deleted. Thanks.

this is a positive side of customization... you -can- mimmic any style of interface, on any phone.
1 is it illegal to do it in india ?
2 is it outselling wp8 devices ?
the funny part is, the android phone will get more updates and apps than the wp-phone.

Which brings to the original question:
...and?
That phone won't get more updates than any windows phone (no android gets more). Microsoft has a patent on live tiles and they can shut down any OEM that uses their design.

for all you guys know, it might be running launcher 7 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.tikuwarez.launcher3&hl=en
Now, thats not illegal is it?
I think you guys should seriously chill down.

ya, that's the thing about customization. anyone, anywhere can copy any UI element of function they choose. if an oem does it, meh, some lawyers get paid for the trouble. the biggest fish (sales) is still the winner, regardless.

I am from India. And this makes me really sad. WP is a much polished OS than the choppy, laggy, bug riddled counterpart. But all this just makes me wonder, how long will this idea stealing continue(Samsung being the founding-father).
Sent from my Π Σ Χ U S 4.

I looked this phone up on YouTube and It seems to be simply some sort of lock screen that does nothing, you simply swipe it away and it's all Android 4.x running under it with its usual lock-up, freezes and lags. It is not a launcher at all, it seems that the phone makers went out of their way to make the phone look like an HTC 8S for some reason.

Well, it's ok for an Android device. I don't like the looks though, no keyboard, no d-pad.... but if I had the extra cash, I wouldn't mind playing with it for a couple of months.
Maybe you should post the pics in the OP?
fail to register at se-nse.net, anyone can share at this topic?

this device is rumored to be release on January next year, which is similar to X2
when i see there is a complete UI on X2, and on the other side X3 is still just a fundamental system at dev kit level, i feel a little bit upset...

the 3D pic were in the first thread already. I so like the phone. But it's true, they have to put an UI. I like HTC Sense, so if there is no proper UI I rather hav Hero200.
How is it with Android phones? Could I, f.e., flash a HTC Rom (android) on a SE Android device?

Wow, I have never once been jealous of an iPhone. Until now. Jesus
Will that card-like interface ever be possible on Android?
...all it did was take the same functionality we've had since the begining and made a spiral/wheel interface like apple always had.
Have you tried holding down the home key for quick app switching on android? All the iphone app does is give you screenshot of the app windows. Fancy, but not better.

Damn, I knew I should have mentioned the long press so someone doesn't bring it up. Yes, I know about that.
However, I would still love to have the card-like interface, as personal preference.
(Also note the long press shows recently used applications, not currently running ones.)
And yes, I also know about the Task Switcher app. However, having to use the camera button to activate it is annoying. If it could replace the Home long-press, that would be just perfect (or Home double tap like Multifl0w).

personally, it seems to me that apple has always been more concerned with aesthetics than functionality.
this is really old. Background enabler for iphone and ipod touch has been out for a really long time. (Available through cydia after jailbreak of course). Although not having the scrolling interface, it has the same functionality the android has had since 1.0.

Yes it could have been in the Q&A section, but it still pertains to android development as he is asking if its possible to make bring it to the android system. Calling it garbage is just an immature reaction to what I'm guessing to be your hatred towards anything apple. One man's trash is another man's treasure, so can please respect each other?
What would be really interesting, is if the hold home button for a few seconds to bring up the "recently opened apps" would show only running apps, and had some sort of way of closing/ending them. That way it would be much more useful.

Listen pal.. understand you're a newb but this site was made for developers and people that wanted to have an input on development.
If you like this sort of thing, there are plenty of sites with 13 year old kids playing with phones. This is the sort of garbage that has made a decline in the site's validity for the last year or so.

What the Atrix 4G first promised, it looks like the folks at Canonical may deliver.

Ubuntu's full desktop OS coming to multi-core Android devices
What the Atrix 4G first promised, it looks like the folks at Canonical may deliver. Think back to CES 2011, when Motorola showed us a future where our phone was the only computing device we would need -- only to leave us wanting when its webtop app didn't deliver the requisite functionality for such a future. Well, it turns out Ubuntu now runs on multi-core Android devices and your handset can grant a full desktop experience when docked with a display and a keyboard. It's a customized version of Ubuntu that plays nice with Android, the two OS's sharing data and services while running simultaneously. So, you can still access telephony and texts from the Ubuntu environment while enjoying all the computing capabilities it has to offer, including: Ubuntu TV, virtualization tools for running Windows applications, desktop web browsers, and Ubuntu apps built for ARM. It isn't clear exactly what hardware you'll need to run Ubuntu on a handset, but Canonical has said it works on multi-core devices with HDMI and USB connections.

I heard from my boss that only HTC and motorola are trying to get it for now, thats why i said that, because i dont even think about motorola anymore, they make everything good lool bad. Heard that from a lot of android users, is not just my opinion.

HTC One Android 4.2 Official Update Confirmed Once Again

Better true this time The wait has been too long.... Can't wait....
The HTC One Android 4.2 official update has once again been confirmed by the company without a specific release time frame being provided. Earlier this month we reported that HTC Russia had confirmed availability of Android 4.2.2 for HTC One in mid-June, but the update itself is yet to drop. Recently Three UK, one of the carrier partners across the pond that offers HTC’s latest flagship, recently replied to a customer’s query on Twitter revealing that HTC had “just pulled” the 4.2.2 release. This indicates that a June launch of this update was definitely on the cards, with Engadget reporting that HTC has confirmed to them that the update is indeed coming soon, but customers might have to wait a bit longer. HTC One ships with Android 4.1 pre-installed, whereas its main rival the Galaxy S4 ships with Android 4.2. Some features expected in the HTC One Android 4.2 official update have already been detailed, but the company itself hasn’t confirmed exactly what improvements this update will bring. Like everyone else, we’ll keep waiting patiently for this update, and will let you know as soon as it drops.... Read more at: http://www.ubergizmo.com/2013/06/htc-one-android-4-2-official-update/

Does it really matter? I mean, the M7 is already set up better than the S4 with its 4.2 config... I honestly don't think it needs anything at all in terms of added software features, just some finishing touches (and softkey related updates to everyone who is still waiting for it).

Yea, I suppose both of those are good things. Even though you can get to the wireless/wifi toggles one click from pull down menu... or one touch on a toggle bar from home screen. the home button menu could be good? not sure what other menus are needed...

I don't have any of these issues... my home button brings up the apps drawer if I hit it in default screen, and brings up the search function if I hold it down... thanks to Nova launcher, which is free. It almost looks vanilla in my config except with black bars being transparent, and the app drawer half transparent, and nicer hand-picked icons with no text on homescreen

everybody pays a premium for gadgets. not just a phone alone.
and it's already performing currently, there's no need to rush things.
good things come to those who wait.
if everything u paid for deserves to be updated quickly because "it costs like a premium item" , then you're wrong.
it's like saying i paid a premium for my ac router, i deserve faster firmware updates to speed the damn thing up
and they have no obligations to comply with the open source license. only google does that.
nowadays with all the patent ****storms, nobody really cared about open source anymore. they want everything to themselves

HTC generally is pretty fast, sometimes a few weeks slower than samsung, sometimes a few weeks faster with updates. I installed the 4.2.2 update but immediately I noticed my bottom speaker started popping and the animation in the pull down menu was jittery and when opening the app drawer I first saw a grid of 4x2 icons before showing my 5x4 grid. These were just the bugs I noticed in the first minutes of installing. HTC were right in pulling that update. JB 4.2 itself doesn' t offer a lot either for phones. The one thing I really want from 4.2 is the fix for the msm_hsic_host suspend bug, but most people seem to be unaffected by this wakelock anyway.

With 4.2.2 on the ONE 2013 Flagship phone, everything AWESOME. As Samsung S4 come preloaded. Just that the smartphone battle has becoming more tough. At least HTC can speed up a little bit :fingers-crossed:
Most importantly for me is the 3 dot black menu bar remove and pull down notification wireless etc toggle menu.
