/dev/qmi0 - Hardware Hacking General

All,
I am trying to access qmi0 on my MSM8960 to run some qmi requests. But it looks like, at least on my ASOP ROM the device is not functioning properly. Anyone have experience in setting this up and talking to this device?

did you set correct permissions?

I too want to execute certain QMI commands from the device itself. You said that you achieved the same via QMUX. Can you please give some more details as in how you did that? I have no idea about QMUX daemon and the interface it exposes.
Thanks in advance!!

Just a quick update: i had some success on htc thunderbolt but nothing with samsung devices.

Market alternative

Hello everyone, I'm happy to say that I'm hosting a 'market' specifically for Sprint Hero root users. If anyone is interested in this, you can install it on your phone in a few steps.
First, download the market program and install it on your phone. It's at http://app2.bikcmp.com:4121/dl/Aptoide.apk
Once you install it, launch it and press no to add their default repository. Then, press menu>Manage repo>menu>New repository. The url to the repository should be EXACTLY:
http://app2.bikcmp.com:4121/repo/files/
After that, go back and you should be able to see the applications. If you're a developer and have a application you'd like to add, or have a question, feel free to email me: [email protected].
Yes, I know there aren't many applications in it right now.

Oops, my mistake. It's app2, not apps2.
Is there a way to see what's availible in your market from the computer?

Depends: A pretty way? No. A basic way? Yes.
http://app2.bikcmp.com/repo/files/ has a directory listing of the apk's, and you can download them from there too.

bike, why don't you get on making us a froyo sense based rom. your pancake rom was the **** back in the day.

Anyone searching test servers. And a few thoughs for Atrix HD.

I notice the status for the atrix 4g ics build is on "Development" so is probably a great idea to search the servers. sometimes you may be able to find some goodies. an alpha with a new kernel would be priceless. it would mean new drivers.
though:
the test servers are really easy to spoof. simply changing a few things on your build prop and the test servers will give you stuff for that device. it be really interesting to see if someone could spoof the servers into thinking the device login in for update is the new atrix hd. i personally see no hope for an unlocked bootloader that way, but you never know. last time motorola said "we are working on a solution", it was sitting on that server.

Use motowatcher to check server's update time, it built for RAZR but still helpful for us
Cheesecake tutorial:
Wipe > Skip Blur > Install App from SD card > Change Server > Setup Blur and Check Updates
You can also change server manually at
/system/etc/motorola/com.motorola.blur.service.blur/defaults.xml
it may help if you want to check servers like master-qa200.blurdev.com
I'm not the author of those apps. Hit thanks button in original app threads.
Do not install those updates, you may brick your phone.
Been cheesecaking every time one of the servers on Navalynt's list updated. Still no ICS.
Sorry, Sam. Good to hear from you again though!
so you need a locked device to do this?

Just got a stock Atrix. Now rooted and ready to find some cheesecakes! Will install the files and start tonight.
Two questions:
Since moto hasn't yet decided if ICS will be deployed outside the US, is there any point searching international servers?
Also, on the original Project Cheesecake thread (Link), I only saw two servers listed as having AT&T files (master-qa2.blurdev.com and master-qa3.blurdev.com). Is that still correct? If not can some post all the AT&T servers?

I, personally, have only had luck finding something on QA3, which is presently down.
If I am lucky enough to find something, would it only be an update for the Atrix (i.e. ICS), or are other files possible?
Good to see ya back here Sam...

Whenever I click Change Server it just says Should be Good. Am I doing something wrong?
Edit:
Got it. App needed su permission.
Now when I select server, Check Updates, then try to create a blur account blur setup FCs. Will play some more.
Edit2:
Couldn't get the app to work, so went to manual. No matter which server I check, or even if I enter total gibberish, I won't get an error. Is that normal?

I think that you need to be in a total stock blur rom for this to work. You need a fruitcake.

You must wipe and skip blur before you do this, you can't setup another blur account on phone.

Use this one and this one, it's unmodified(even not rooted) 4.5.141 system.img and boot.img.
its very important that you also have a stock kernel. att_1.8.3 (froyo) is the best way to use this method.
I am trying this on a stock 4.5.141 phone (only rooted).
For the app I did a factory reset, skipped blur, downloaded and installed su from the app store, installed the cheesecake app, opened the app then tapped the first button and granted su permission. When I tap the second button there is only one server in the list. When I tap the third button I am prompted the create a blur account. I try this and get FC. I will try again.
Any thoughts as to why I can't get an error when trying manually (editing default.xml)? Whether I type in a real server or nonsense, it just tells me my system is up to date.
Thanks guys.

I am having the exact same issue. When I click change server, I only see one server on a non-scrollable list. And I also have the issue of the default.xml. No matter what I put in there, and my phone is always up to date.

It's just difficult to scroll, try it in landscape mode. You can see the default choice and few pixels of other one in the bottom.

[Q] How do I know if I have "Busybox" on my S4?

Just as the question states lol... I see some root apps need Busybox installed as a prerequisite, just wondering how to know if I have it installed or not. Thanks!
If your box is busy... That was lame. Haha

if my memory serves me correct then the app that requires busybox should state that your phone doesnt have it isntalled and it would like to help you isntall it
The easy way:
Goto the playstore and search for busybox.
If it says installed, you're all good. If not, install it.
The little bit harder way:
Open up a terminal on the phone and type "busybox" at the prompt. If its installed it will give you version/help info.
or
Connect phone to your computer and make sure usb debugging is enabled.
open a command prompt on your computer.
Type "adb shell busybox"
The same version/help info should come up.
Which one is the real busybox? There are a few of em' on the Play Store. Thanks guys! :good:

Same.
Again, to check for your installation type busybox in terminal. There is no harm in downloading the play store app though. If you have it already it will just apply any updates.

Found another quicker way to do this:
1. Goto google.com/android/devicemanager and locate your phone.
2. Click "Lock" and chose a new number password.
3. Type the new password on your phone and it will unlock.
4. Now it should let your change the lockscreen to anything, and foxfi will continue to work
Still working after restarting phone and using Foxfi

@zero66 If you are rooted (that does not trip Knox, or void your warranty) then I would suggest downloading Xposed and installing X Tether from within the Xposed app linked. I have it this way, and can use the native tether/wifi with NO issues.
