[Q] HELP !!! - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im having a big issue (maybe small for you techs out there)... I found a nexus 4, it was all beat up and cracked... i did contact the owner, but he said that it was too much money to fix it... I paid 200 bucks to fix it and now it looks like new... the person that had it had service with t-mobile (as i do), ... but the phone wont work with them on their network. I even replaced the sim card thinking it was mine that was bad. The phone says emergency calls only (making me think maybe it was blocked)... I paid for a code which i have not been able to input because i can even get it to go to the screen to put it... i tried to do a hard reset and nothing, tried this three methods send by the company i bought the code from
Method #1 Go to the dial screen on your phone as if you are going to make a call and press 2945#*model number#. For example, if you have an LG Prada P940 you enter 2945#*940# or if you have an LG Optimus L3 E400 you enter 2945#*400#
Method #2 Go to the dial screen on your phone as if you are going to make a call and press: 2945#*71001# Once prompt for the code enter the unlocking code you received from us.
Method #3 Go to the dial screen on your phone as if you are going to make a call and press: *#865625#
and nothing has worked so far. I called TMobile again and they told me the phone was blocked by them, and supposedly since it was a prepaid line they requested it for the IMEI to be taken off their blocked list, and that it was going to be from 24-48 hours before the phone would work...
now for the weird part, just to try something out i put my daughter's ATT sim card in it, and voila, the phone works perfectly fine without even unlocking it... makes calls, access internet, etc...
can someone tell me what the heck is wrong with the phone??

The phone is factory unlocked.. Not sure why you bought an unlock code. Or why someone sold one.
Sent from my Nexus 4

It's still blocked on T-Mobile. Call them again.

Thats what i thought too , but for some reason it does not work for Tmobile and it works for att

nothings wrong with the phone, its doing just what its supposed to. its your research about it thats a little off. someone blocked the phones imei with tmobile, so you dont get service. also, the phone is a pentaband, so itll work with most, if not all, gsm carriers. att being one of them. since the imei was blocked at tmobile, not att, it still works with att radio band.

im actually calling tmobile again as i type... i dont understand why a blocked was put on this IMEI... when i talked to the previous owner of the phone he told me he never report it damage or lost because it was a prepaid plan, and that he anyways had decided to get an iphone (suckss)

T-mobile is a bit odd...

So I bought my HD2 2 weeks after they came out. Shortly after I tried buying an unlock code for my phone because t-mobiles service in my area is kind of come and go. Unfortunatly I have one of the 35777 Phones so after 4 attempts with 4 different sites failing at getting a code, I tried emailing tmobile to see if they would give me a code as they already told me they dont have service in my area. They told me to fax them a copy of my invoice proving I paid full price for the thing, so I did. About a week later they got back to me and said that due to the fact that I bought it from a site that was not one of their approved retailers I couldnt get an unlock code. So about a week and a half ago I went to a tmobile store and got the darn thing setup anyways. I get some service in this area, just not much. Now about 3 days ago, I get an email from t-mobile that looks like this:
T-Mobile Sim Unlock Request
Sim Unlock Reference: *******
IMEI: 35777*********
Unlock Code: ********
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. Below you will see the Instructions for unlocking your HTC device.
1. Insert the foreign SIM card
2. Power on the device and the display should read "Please input unlock code"
3. Enter the unlock code and the device should display "Phone is unlocked."
4. Allow the phone to scan the network (or manually click on the antenna icon to do this)
It is very important that the instructions and SIM unlock code are entered correctly as listed. If you receive an error message while performing the instructions do not make any further attempts to unlock the handset. Please be aware that if an excessive amount of incorrect attempts are made, the phone will be permanently locked. You will need to verify the IMEI by pressing *#06# and contact Customer Care for support.
Thank You,
Sim Unlock Department
T-Mobile USA, Inc.
I kind of find this a bit odd. They tell me I cant get the number, then about a month later they randomly mail it to me anyway.
sounds kind of odd... have you always had tmobile or did you just sign up to purchase the hd2?
Neither, I had at&t before, Wanted to buy it and unlock it to use with at&t but in the process realized at&t's service is a bit of a ripoff. Atleast it is with standard plans. Wanted to try and use my hd2 with a gophone card but it doesnt seem to want to work.

Urgent AT&T network problem: Atrix 4G Android

I am urgently in need of someone who can solve this network problem I have been having. Right now I can not access any mobile network with this phone.
I am using an Atrix 4g unlocked and rooted.
Basically, my problem is that my phone has been asking me for a "SIM network unlock PIN" every since my time in Italy.
I recently went to Italy 2 weeks ago, and came back yesterday. On my first day in Italy I bought an Italian SIM card from the Mobile Network company Tre, a company similar to AT&T. When I replaced my AT&T network card with the Tre one, it asked for the SIM network unlock pin. Seeing that I did not have a code on me at the time, and after trying several numbers given to my by Tre, I replaced the tre card with my original AT&T SIM card. I later learned that my phone was not international and I unfortunately did not call AT&T ahead to unlock it, causing the phone to lock network access. I learned that this is a security feature in case your phone is stolen.
I'm asking for your help because I spent literally over an hour with tier one and tier two support of both AT&T and Motorola technical support all telling me the same BS.
Before calling any support numbers, I went to an AT&T branch, and I told them the situation. They replaced my AT&T SIM card with a new one, yet the phone still asked for the SIM network unlock PIN. They then told me to call support and ask them about a subsidy unlock code. AT&T phone support gave me multiple codes to unlock the phone, but none of them worked. All of the SIM and IMEP numbers on the phone were correct in their systems too. After telling me exactly the same thing as tier 1 support, AT&T tier 2 then transferred me to common Motorola support tier 1 support. Motorola only told me to hard reset the phone, which I do multiple times every time I update your firmware anyway. The last hard reset I did to my device was literally 30 minutes before I called technical support. They then told me that the only thing I could do is to replace the phone under warranty with either motorola or AT&T.
However, I am in a pickel becuase my phone is completly unlocked, rooted, has CFW/kernel, etc...and I think that wards the warranty.
I have been using this same firmware ever since I got this phone during the last summer, and it has been working perfectly. After I put in the Italian SIM card, the network locks. I have no where else to turn but to an expert here on xda.
Is there anything I can do? The only thing I can think of is to tell my story to a nonobservant AT&T guy over at a store and ask him to replace it. However, I don't know what would happen if they found out my phone is unlocked and they gave me a new phone under warranty before realizing this...
Thanks

Ahh, perm SIM locked.
Pretty sure that has to go back to the manufacturer to be fixed, if it can be fixed at all.
Just go ask for a replacement, they shouldn't be able to unlock it anyways.

thanks for the reply.
However, two things:
1) I thought it might be permanent, but I was not sure. Back in Italy I remember the phone giving me a certain number of try's, so I now that I think of it I might have exceeded that, causing it to perm lock. Is there any other way in telling if it's perm locked?
2) Also, one of my concerns is that AT&T will see that my phone is unlocked and rooted and all of that, thus warding the warranty and the replacement. I'm thinking that maybe after I give them this phone and I get a new one, they look at the old phone in the future and will see that its rooted and unlocked. Is this possible or what?

1) Just putting your sim card in and having the phone not respond pretty much sums up the sim lock.
2) I would at least revert the phone back to stock. AFAIK, unlocking the bootloader burned some sort of efuse so returning it back to a true factory state is "technically" impossible, but I do remember seeing that you could at least relock(?) and removed the unlocked notification at boot. I believe you should still be able to access the phone even when the sim has been locked, just start it without a sim card in place. If you can bring it back to an AT&T build, I think you'll be okay if you're still under warranty.
Just remember that next time you travel, either have an unlocked GSM phone or get a sim subsidy code from the carrier that the phone is linked to.
Would getting a code from cellunlock.net work? Or is their code the same as the ones given to me by AT&T tech support?
AT&T tech support gave me three '8 digit numbers', which were randomly generated. None of those worked. DO you think a cellunlock number would work?
Also, I am reading up on some forums saying that people in my situation (who's phone does not accept any SIM card and still askes for the code), can get the phone to accept some codes by reverting to stock firmware and radio. This is by .sbf though....
If things haven't changed, I believe the sim subsidy unlock would only clear the phone for the next foreign sim card placed in the phone whereas a real unlock code would completely unlock the code. Once your phone has been locked though, I don't think that code will be of use anymore.
It wouldn't hurt to try to sbf back to a stock build provided you follow the proper instructions to not get the x1000 hard bricks. Aside from trying that, I would think your best bet would be to just get the phone exchanged under warranty.

SIM lock
Looks like you have locked your SIM. Since you have rooted your phone you voided your warranty , best bet is look for SIM unlock code from online probably ebay will give you cheaper options, try them if worked great if not then there is a tool to root/unroot any android device, I will post the download link once i find. restore the device to factory settings if it permits and unroot back . then claim for replacement.
Hi i just unlock my device after hours of investigation. You have to change the baseband. Here is what you have to do. Flash the baseband to the ones from brazil (search in google sbf not the zip ones), after the process you can put it back to the usa at&t radio. Ones you change to tha brazil radio (wipe always before changes radio), put one sim card of another provider and voila, the code will work. You need to have your phone with no registration of motoblur at all.
I hope it will help you.

[Q] Unlocking a s5 that's still activated with sprint?

I just bought a galaxy s5 off craigslist and verified the imei # on swappa.com and it said it was ready to activate. But it turns out it's still on someone's account. I don't think it's stolen cause the guy at sprint said the last name on the account was the same as the person that sold it to me. It didn't have a SIM card in it so I couldn't tell it was still activated.
So is there anyway I can still unlock it and use it with verizon cause the girl I bought it from keeps acting like she is getting it removed but the account is in her grandmothers name and she is really sick

A Sprint S5 will not work on Verizon, so even if you could unlock it while it's still activated on a Sprint account, it wouldn't do you any good.
Unless the person you bought it from is willing to refund your money, you're stuck with a phone you can't use.

well she deactivated the phone and I got the MSL code from sprint and Verizon says they can activate it if I got it flashed to Verizon's software but now the problem is version dosent flash phones

You would also need the IMEI number to be entered into Verizon's system in order to access their CDMA network, and Verizon does not add non-Verizon phones to their system for that.
If she deactivated the phone, I would just sell it.
I have a similar problem with my galaxy S5 from sprint. I was told from 2 different sprint call center people that with the MSL code (which I already got) the phone can be used with another domestic company and also international.
From that point I started an account with T Mobile, but when I inserted the SIM card into my phone it doesnt recognize it and obiusly have no signal.
Ive tried different methods to get the phone into the GSM frecuency, even accesing to the Hidden Menu and choosing ONLY GSM FREC, tried to add an APN, and now I'm thinking to install a g900t ROM to make it work...
If anyone here can help me out with this or refer me to a thread that could help, I will appreciate that

Verizon gave me the unlock code, now what? Moto G4 Play

Hi,
First off, thanks to everyone that keeps this place running and helpful. I don't post here often because i don't mind doing my own research. So, Secondly...
My buddy bought me a Verizon Moto G4 Play for Christmas. Its a nice little phone. Anyway, I met Verizons criteria for unlocking the phone and they gave me the code. Their directions, told to me by a few csrs ( you know how it is, you rarely get the right answer the first time) was to put a sim from a different carrier in the phone, power it up and the phone will recognize the foreign sim causing thr phone yo open a network unlock code box. Enter the code, press ok, and the phone is unlocked.
Sounds like an easy plan except the box never appears.
If i put an active tmobile sim in and then look ay the phones stats under settings, all the right info is there. Network name, network state, the sims phone number....but the phone wont dial nor surf the web. There is notification saying this is not a Verizon sim.
I have spent hours here searching and reading. I am stuck. I am pretty skillful now, thanks to you guys, and have rootrd, modified, and even gotten viper4you to work on 6 phones and 3 tablets but now I ask for your help. I know .y Samsung s all dave a dialer code to get to the network areas but i sure as hell cant find a thing for this phone.
So, in summary, Moto G4 play, unlocking code from Verizon. No way to use or enter the code. Help??
Never mind. I figured it out. Big deal, data only. Its a Verizon phone till the end.

help with wont work with carrier, (yes its unlocked)

I need some help yall. My little sister just got the OnePlus 6T and its through T Mobile, she has MetroPCS. I know about unlocking and there's an app on the phone just for unlocking so I used it and it gave me a confirmation screen saying it was unlocked. But here's the issue. It still won't work and I get this notification after the phone boots up with the metro sim in it.
Edit I know i screwed up on the title haha, oops
Just double-checking, did you already call MetroPCS about transferring her line to a new phone? (since I know they still whitelist one IMEI at a time for each line and require you to call in to change which IMEI your line is associated with, even though there's no technical reason for them to have that still.)
If you already did that, then have you tried if other SIMs from other carriers work in the phone?
