First, my apologies if this is already solved using this method , i searched for hours but didn't see it !!
I have found an alternate solution for the HTC Surround reboot issue, after trying new sd cards, charging overnight and reloading stock software ( all not working ), tried the first thing that i really should have tried, changed battery and now everything is working again with no boot loop !!!!
Before i tried swapping the battery the tri color screen was showing ' SD unknown 89 ' , and now after the battery swap is actually showing what ever SD i put in, so a bad battery could well be related to some of the SD card issues too, this could also be caused by a faulty charger which will both kill the battery and possibly fry you SD card !!!
Hopefully a few of you will find this really helpful, judging by what i have read there are alot of people who have tried all the tested methods such as swap the micro sd without any luck and are still stuck with a semi brick.

There is no way of knowing, start with the battery as it is the cheaper of the 2 to buy ( only about 10 dollars ) and if it doesn't work after a good charge then it is most likely the SD card[ !!
It is an old issue with the rebooting to HTC logo only over and over again and mostly it seems the SD cards were faulty but i have heard of people still with the issue and i found this to work but i can't tell you which is your problem, maybe you know someone with the same phone ? just try their battery and if it works you know it is just battery !!!!

It could be related to the SD card, if games or data are stored here it could just be corrupted and preventing proper play and restarts the device, if it restarts at the same point every time is likely to be the issue but you will need to do a factory reset which will erase all data, so make sure you backup what you want to keep !!!
If the phone is working during normal usage and only restarts during games, it is likely due to overheating, the graphics are very demanding on the system and it is possible once the phone reaches an unsafe level, automatically shuts down to prevent damage to the motherboard or it can be a compatibility issue, if the games are old version on an updated Rom or vice versa !!
If the phone does not feel hot, it could be a hardware issue, if the phone is used excessively for games, it could also be a worn out graphics processor chip !

It is probably a faulty Sim card reader, this is a replaceable part and is easily available on ebay , it is the same part which has the SD card holder, just search for Sim card reader flex cable on ebay, it is also an easy part to replace if you have a little experience opening up phones too !!

Hello,
Forgive me I am a complete noobee.
I bought a Himalaya (Ebay) which seemed to work correctly for a few hours. The it froze and kept freezing on reboot. Next day similar sequence. I basically found it irratic as to when it would switch on and when it would stay on, (I charge battery fully on the cradle but no difference).
Hoping to cure the problems I managed to upgrade from PPC2003 to WM6, but it's performance is the same as before.
Can anybody recommend a fix?
Again forgive me if this is a really dumb question.
Thanks.
My hima freezes at starting too, but I found out it is sd card which causes freezing at start up. So when I softreset I just take off sd card than it start normally,
I have kngston 2GB sd card, maybe sdhc driver fix would help, but it aint a big problem for me, I dont mind.
Thanks for the info.
Mine freezes with both SD card inserted and SD card removed.
sounds like the batt is causing the issues by getting a bit loose or being generaly a bit defect or the batt connector
I have bought a new battery, still no joy everything is exactly the same. It seem to boot briefly when first thing but once it's froze it is impossible to reboot, you have to leave it a couple of hours before it will boot or nearly boot. I think this is a definately hardware issue, any suggestions anybody?
Thanks
Did you try to put your device in Bootloader (Hold POWER+ACTION+RESET)
If you can acces to bootloader than try to reflash the rom with the new one (I recommend syed ather wm6.1 rom) simple fast and stable
Hi
I upgraded my i-mate PH-10B to many ROMS on this forum its upgrades very well but aftr that its very slow and have lost sound on the set please anybody can help on it
hello everyone,i have a problem,I bought a second hand hd 2 today , was working everything normally, but in the evening it freeze and appeared a blank screen. I try to make a hard reset and the result was... a complete broken phone .It cannot be put on .. nothing. It doesn,t respond to any command ,it.s dead..It is any solution to this problem?
Have you tried charging it? - I know that it sounds stupid, but lets get that out of the way first.
yes,i tried, doesn.t appear any light for charging.. i will try with a new battery tommorow, thanks for reply..
Take out the battery, plug in the charger, then plug in the battery.
Do all your testing wthout the microSD card pluged in, as a corrupt card can cause a load of problems.
i bought it without a sd card in.That could affected the perfomance of the phone?maybe some software was in sd card and that causes the freezing?

There are some pins for the battery that can get bent. I don't know exactly if they're on the battery or the phone itself but have read about many users having that problem. Check that.
Ive tried several WP7 NAND builds in this forum but everyone seem to give the same issue far as it randomly freezing and rebooting especially when the screen is off, Is anyone else having this issue and if so is there a solution?
Phone: TmoUS Leo
Radio: 2.15.50.40
Build: Frantic HD WP7
Yes ive had this same problem...would also like to know if there are any solutions...thanks
Try another SD card. Go for a SanDisk one as they are more compatible. WP7 doesn't accept many SD cards and you both have the typical symptoms of an incompatible card

Yes, and yes.
Random reboots are most likely caused by your MicroSD-card (WP7 will not work well with some cards). The only solution: try a different card.
There's a thread where people report which cards worked for them here.
ignore that thread
There is absoluetly no way of know what card will work.
statistically you have a better chance with a sandisk class 2 or 4 BUT that is not always the case, you may have a generic home brand class 10 that works but more likely you'll have better luck with those class 2 and 4 cards
No one is really sure why WP7 is having issues, the best idea so far is that its random read/write speeds that are the key, some class 10 cards have massive sequential write speeds but slower random reads which is where WP7 comes unstuck
Also, just because some one has a sandisk 8GB class 6 that works fine doesnt mean you will have the same luck with the exact same model because different cards use different components, even within the same make and model.
For example i have two 4GB sandisk class 6 cards, purchased on the same day at the same shop, both cards are model identical, one works fine the other has issues such as restarting, wifi not working and lagging
and to throw another spanner in the works i have a card that works perfectly, up until i fill the card to a certain point, then it starts all this restart business, if i dump a few hundred MB of music on the card taking it past that point it works fine . The card was been tested on the PC and i cant see anything wrong with it.
So, that leave me to think that for some reason when WP7 was trying to access that portion of the card for SYSTEM usage it was perhaps too slow to use or had some other issue, i can play music from that area however.
I just installed WP7 on my HD2 earlier today, was running fine for about.. 3-4 hours, I guess I was on it a good bit, not really letting it go to sleep for an extended period of time, but after I stopped messing with it, I noticed it rebooted itself, then it got froze on the lock screen, until it rebooted itself randomly again,, and then it did a complete wipe of my data on another random reboot?
Is this due to the SD card?
And can I just remove the SD card to fix this until theres some guarenteed cards that work with WP7?
or will it not boot without the SD card in?
Thanks alot.
it will work without SD but laggy and you will only have about 150MB of space.
good luck waiting for a card, its supposed to be unremovable so i doubt you will see over the counter products, im afraid its take a guess or buy an HD7
oop! yeah probably your SD
It is your sd card, sorry. Try a new one.
so nothing to do with how you format the sd card?

the WP7 doesn't format the SD in options menu.
I tried this soluction and the phone appears more stable:
1- go in the
(caution----your data will be eraser)
settings -> about -> reset your phone
2- then the phone reset and after the MALGRD screeen push VOL UP and VOL DOWN
to appears the screen when you press the VOLUP to eraser all data and recovery the phone in factory status.
3- after this the phone start with the SD clear.
my phone don't freeze more after this steps.
Hey guys, I'm an common forum visitor (usually not logged in) and this is my first post. I will explain the whole story, as it may contain important evidence for the resolution of my problem. Sorry for the big text and thanks for your help in advance
I'm in a pickle here,
I really love the WP7 OS, much more than Android and I want to keep it. But the thing is, my phone wont charge with my SD card on (I just found that). After many months with no problems with WP7, this problem starts being recurring on multiple ROMs.
The thing is, when the SD card is on the slot, the phone keeps booting and rebooting for charge when the batteries are low (But if they have some battery, it simply won't charge). After awhile, appears the "storage is dead screen" (the SD is the phone "internal" storage. I get that). So I remove the SD card and guess what... It starts charging! Awesome, problem solved.
... Not yet. I put the card back and it can't get past the ROM creator/cooker screen (which is before the WP logo appears). I figure: the SD Data is probably damaged and preventing the phone to even display the error message (but that doesn't make sense, since it should go back to the error message anyway. It did without the SD card being plugged in).
I need a safe way to charge the phone without breaking the Data every single time. Most likely, I need to remove the SD card before.
Any ideas you guys can share? Thanks!
PS: Love the forum. Such a life saver from that old, dead WM6.5. Much <3 for the Teams Involved
EDIT: High Capacity Battery is not charging at all. In neither way. Only the normal one. Is it a battery problem?
phone terminals
Have u tried straightening the terminals for better contact with the battery? They may look fine to u, but u can just use ur finger nails or a screw driver to push them into position. The terminals DO cause that kind of problem.
Hi guys,
A few days ago my s5 had an 'episode'. My micro SD suddenly stopped working (now phone or computer doesnt recognise it) and from that point now a few strange things happen:
My battery seems to drain really fast
When the phone is locked, if i push the home / power button it now takes 4 to 5 seconds for the screen to wake up so I can enter my pin
Almost every time I unlock my phone now it tells me to check the battery cover is correctly sealed
At one point yesterday it got really hot in my pocket (so I took the battery out to chill it out).
So I am wondering if my s5 fried the SD card possibly? a different SD is recognised fine by the phone. And any ideas how I can fix the strange behavours? I have tried taking the battery out for a while etc. Cheers for any advice in advance.
The warning to close the charging cover is a normal annoyance
Hot battery depends what you're doing with it, and if it's closed up in your pocket while it's busy
Long time unlocking is not unheard of either
All your faults seem normal, sounds like the MicroSD card just committed suicide
fair point but all of these things started happening at exactly the same time just as the SD card fried...

I have the exact same problem
so it seems taking out the buggered SD card sorted the other problems - I think it was constantly trying to access it and draining resources. Seems sorted now - so just a new SD card is needed
