[Q] Can't find a stable rom - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I need for my dads defy a stable rom, currently I'm using the old cm-7.2.0 jordan, but it still have bugs, sometimes a call hangs up by itself, reboots by itself etc.
Does its the most stable version so far? If not, can you recommend me the newest most stable version(with the least amount of bugs) for the Motorola defy?
I will be vary greatfull.
Thank you, have a good day!

is it hard to upgrade from cm7 to cm10? And do you have any idea about if they are more/less buggy then the "stable" cm-7.2.0 jordan ?
Thanks.

It's no harder than flashing any other Rom. Just do a full wipe before install.
Roms based on stock firmware are usually more stable than CMs or other aosp, but I ran Jordan stable for a long time without issue. Might just need to wipe your caches and fix permissions, or do a reinstall of the current rom.
Please hit Thanks if I've been helpful at all.

DO NOT start new threads asking for "the best" nightlies. It changes all the time, and everybody will give you a completely different answer.
But since you have a defy+, the obvious is to flash a Defy+ build (gb kernel). Quarx is the only developer who owns a defy+, and his nightlies are the best. For daily use they are rock stable. No force-closes, no reboots, just perfect. Original thread: Voilà!
FuZZ__'s kangs are good too with even more features added. Check out the thread here
sorry i didn't wanted to open a new huge discusion
ok then i'll try the quartx one! and maybe later the kang!
thanks!
Don't worry. I probably overreacted!

downloading fuzz version!
afaik eppys builds are quite stable too. whats the difference between them (except the obvious kernel difference)? any feature differences, does one support hwa better than the other? i have a red lensed defy, so i can move between kernels.

How's the performance of CM9 on Defy?

Hello I have a Defy MB525 and I'd like to give it an upgrade and since there's no official Android releases above 2.2 I'm thinking about installing CM) which is 4.0 based right? I'd like to know how's the performance? does it become slower or how many bugs are? would you recommended it? thanks in advanced, it looks really good so I'd like to try it!
dear friend, trust me .you'd better use the CM9 latest by quarx's.Now we all taste the JB already
anyway the Quarx's CM series(CM7,CM9.CM10) are very perfect on Defy.
You must to try for it!:good:
for everyday rom, try cm9 by epsylon froyo kernel. I am using it and there's no issue or bug I have encountered (I use my defy as a phone).
What are the major differences between Quarx's and Epsylon ROMS? thanks you both for the info!:good:
there is no difference in both builds, afterall both are ics...
why don't you try both using multiboot and decide yourself.
I will give them a try, both releases can be found on Development section right? any link? thank you!
EDIT: Now that you mention it? how can I use multiboot? could I have stock rom and custom rom?

There is multiboot thread in development section, just go through it and you will find out how.
And yes you can have stock rom as base rom and custom rom as virtual rom as long as you have same kernel for both.( for mb525 its froyo kernel)
Btw the link for multiboot - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364659
Thanks! Do you have by any chance the links for CM9 by Quarx and Epsylon? thank you!

NOT RECOMMENDED. The performance you'd get from a ROM installed to your microSD (that's what multiboot does!) is inferior to having installed in the ROM partition of the phone.

Cm9 by epsylon - http://defy-cm.net/
And by quarx - http://quarx2k.ru/
I will skip the installation of MultiBoot for now, but I will try either Quarx's or Epsylon's ROM, thank you!!

How about battery performance in the Xperia ROM?
Hady
Xperia D possible that is fast and smooth but I doubt whether stable because it has a lot of extras and goodies.
If you want a stable rom to select the latest Quarx 09.04
where can I get the latest Quarx 09.04? Is it CM?

I'm sorry, the latest version is from yesterday.
Thanks. I tried the CM9 ROM, but it was not as fast as the CM7,2, maybe because ICS/JB requires more CPU power than GB? Also battery performance is bad.
I am looking for something stable/fast/good battery performance. what do you recommend?
Hady
Forget ICS or JB based roms—there are no stable ones for Defy, or with good battery life. I've tried all of them, and I always run into problems. Your best bet is to stick to CM 7.2 stable or nightly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458729
Thanks Glaux. I am currently using CM 7.2 nightly latest, and also tried the latest stable one, but seems that my deep sleep percentage is very small in CPU spy.... how can I make it go in deep sleep? how can I know what is stopping it?
Hady
I'm running the newest Quarx CM10 rom.
Very stable for me.
I've made some minor modifications with Titanium Backup, removing all the apps that i dont need.
thank u for ur reply..can u send the link of Quarx CM10 rom and what r all the minor changes you did.
In my experience, wajkiUi and MS2Ginger are two most stable roms. Both of them are GB and supports 720p video recording with no bugs. I personally prefer wajkiui and trust me i have tried most of available roms on xda for defy.
Thanks to hard working developers :good:

[Q] Lightweight and stable ROM for Defy+

Hey Folks,
after playing around a while mainly with CyanogenMod 10 built by Quarx,
I was dissatisfied with the stability and especially the speed of the Defy+.
After using an oldschool mobile for the last weeks I decided I might give the Defy one more chance (missing GoogleMail and Contacts).
I wondered whether I can expect a major speed boost in using for example CyanogenMod 7 or any other rom.
Also stability is important to me, as I experienced reboots and connection issues with CM10
So I realy don't need to many features, just a fast stable android.
(I believe a clean Android could totally satisfy these points, but I cant live with that bloated Motorola version..)
Do you have any recommendations/experience which other roms might meet my wishes?
Thanks in advance
Either CM7 or MS2Ginger should satisfy your needs. CM9 isn't that bad as well.

I also experience major stability and speed issues with CM 10.2 (Android 4.3) by Quarx.
Telephony API crashes a lot wish always requires a reboot.
Or the phone somehow loses the SIM card and i have to enter the PIN again before the phone becomes usable again.
I'm not sure if I did something wrong during the flashing process, or if it just 'normal' like that.
In any case, my Nexus4 was stolen in the Gym and I need a stable replacement phone for a few weeks!
Ordered the N5 yesterday, but who knows when it will _really_ ship.

I've falshed the Cm9 from Cm10.2.
My phone was blocked at the motorola logo.
Then i've flashed the CM 10 (Android 4.1.2) and after some attempts my phone restore.
Is there something different with CM9?
Maybe i've made a mistake with the CM9 file?
i would like to try to test stability and performance.

I suggest you to try the version 10....is much more stable and performing
My suggestion is to test the latest Mokee
I'm on Mokee 4.2.2 right now (4.3 is not stable). I'm loving it; fairly stable and slightly faster than CM 10.1. But the Telephony issue is still there; there's no cure for it, unfortunately.
If stability as well as speed are important to you, give WIUI 3.1.27 a try. I used it for a few days, was blazing fast! But moved on as i can't live with gingerbread.

The most stable and fast ROM's for me are CM 4.1.2 and SlimROM.
Just do a clean install from start doing full wipe, and use minimal gapps :good:.
I use the WIUI GB, for me is the best.

[Q] Need a Stable 2nd Boot Quarx ROM or any other compatible ROM for Defy/Defy +

Hi all,
Could someone please help me out with a stable 2nd boot Quarx ROM or any other stable 2nd boot ROM that works for Defy Green lens ( screwed up after service center updated Stock GB ) I have been using Quarx 2nd Boot ROM and Its been working fine. As I'm still running on Nightlies (Sept 30th) and development on this thread is going painfully slow...: well can't complain though.. I just need something more stable.. the nightlies have some lag and the devices seems to be too slow even when not using data. I just want to put a stable OS on this and keep this aside.
Regards
Kishore

For me the 17.01.14 Nightly of CM11 (Android 4.4) works pretty good and smooth as butter. I use it as my daily driver without any problems, but I don't know wether I have red or green lens (I think it's red lense, but I'm not sure). As far as I know it works for both...
A real "stable" version of Quarx's ROMs does not exist as far as I know, so I use this one.
Development of elder Android versions than 4.4 is stopped I think, so there are only updates for the current version.
Hope it helped so far.
