I tried to post my problem in the ultimate backup tool threads but it wont let me since this is my 1st post. I backed up my nexus 4's data using ultimate backup tool, it took me 4-5 hours to finish ending up with a 7.33 gb backup.ab file.. so Ive been trying to restore my phone since I just rooted it but it has been taking too long more than 4 hours, I check up on my phones storage through the computer and the memory has been getting filled up but for only 3 gbs or so, but nothing new in the folders inside my storage, question is can I cancel this and use another program/tool that can restore my data for me cos the storage has not change for a long time now, if there is can you recommend me one? and will this tool let me know if the restore is done or will just exit out? please help me I need all my data back
Note: I picked to backup everything except the system apps
thanks in advance guys

Hi Guys,
The strangest thing just happened. I'm on panic right now.
I left the phone unattended for a couple of hours today and when I came back I notice that the start menu was EMPTY, and when I say empty I mean completely empty.
So I soft-reset the device and is still the same. So I plug the phone with the PC and browse the device over ActiveSync and
ALL THE FILES ARE GONE FROM THE MEMORY, STORAGE AND SD CARD.
All the folders are still there, but they are empty. Only the files are gone!
I had a back-up of everything but the STORAGE (big-storage mod). Does anyone any idea on how to recover the files? Is this possible?
I tried to search on the forums, and I couldn't find anything on this.
I don't know if this might be related but a week ago I upgraded the ROM and used the BIG Storage mod.
My phone details are
Qtek S100
ROM: 1.13.00 WWE
Radio: 1.13.00
Any advice is welcome.
Thanks!
I'm guessing this means you don't use a backup program? It sounds like you'll have to hard reset the phone to recover to a basic startup condition. As for the card you can probably recover all that is on it using an inexpensive recovery program such as Photo Rescue(yes it recovers more than just photos). I've used Photo Rescue to recover a couple of different cards to my computer and then retransfer the information to my phone. Try the trial version at http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/download.htm There are other programs that will recover your card, just Google file recovery and try a couple.
If you are using a backup program on your card, hard reset the phone and use a file explorer to start your backup program. I sometimes have to run my backup twice to get everything back as it should be.

Was there some kind of not properly licensed software installed?

I was using Sprite Backup, but turned out that by default it won't backup the contents of the Storage folder. I changed the settings and from now and go on it will do ;-)

I already recovered all my data from the SD card using OnTrack Easy Recovery Pro. Great and powerful soft.

To tell the truth the last soft I used was a new Sudoku game that I was "trying out" before purchasing. So this might have been the "killer"
Anyway, I had an old backup on some CD, so after a Hard Reset and some work, everything is back to normal now, or I hope so.
Thanks for the replies.
lol
i can tell you for sure it was that sudoku game you installed.. it waits till you play.. when you cleared one puzzle it crashes and deletes everything exept the folders.. even on your sd card..
That is the risk of downloading illegal stuff..

Funny, how can the data in storage(which is NAND ROM) gets erased by itself. I m hearing this for the first time in my life
It seemed some evil (not properly registered) software deleted all the files as "punishment". He was able to recover files with an undelete tool.
So you still have to wait for NAND ROM forget its data for the first time
Hello, I'm running desire 3,4 and it has been working great until today. I pulled out my battery for like 10 minutes and after I rebooted from the SD card I realized that I lost everything, all my settings, applications etc.Like if it was a fresh install. All the files on the SD card are exactly the same!! please help me!!!
Not to be harsh, but you're probably screwed. When running off of the sd card, you should back up your data.img once every week or two. It's pretty easy to do, and then if something bad like that happens again, you can just revert back to your latest backup. Some builds last a long time before they go screwy, some do it sooner, but it seems that all sd builds eventually take a crap. Ususally it's acore force closes, not loss of apps and settings though, but yeah, sd builds don't seem to last forever, so back up from time to time
Do you stop your phone before removing the battery?
If no... it's your fault
When you stop the phone (normaly) you can see that it takes some time. In fact it's not just to be annoying.
If you stopped it before, no luck.
oh i see. Thank god I have a backup of a few days ago. so to prevent this to happen I need to backup the data.img only or all the apps and settings?

just the data.img . that's where your apps and settings are, unless you use an apps2sd partition, but that wouldn't be affected by a corrupted data.img so you'd still be safe in backing up only thee data.img
And if you start using a rom that doesn't use data.img you can use a app like Titanium Backup Pro.
ok thank you!
That's a rule for any electronic support. NEVER TRUST IT !!!!
Never put vital data on only one media.
My SD got corrputed twice, my first SSD was erased by XRay scaner at airport (even if Intel said it's not possible they change my SDD 3 times for this reason and at the end gave me an updated version... since then no problem. Not possible but think what you want afer that).
So backup is the key. Any way to backup will be good.
For ex, my laptop is backuped every day on 2 different hardrives, vital data are also backuped in my phone SD and on an Internet Server !!!
Only a nuclear war can make me loose my data now
Or, flash MAGLDR, CWM and then use CWM to do backups every so often. You'll be happier with the responsiveness of ROM's running from NAND anyway
Can you "hot" copy the data.img file while Android is running or must you copy it off of the SD from winmo or from the SD installed on the computer?
Because Android caches data and have delayed writes to external filesystem, there is better make copy of data.img when Android is not running. If you make "hot" copy of data.img you may get in result damaged backup copy of data.img
I'm going from a Samsung Vibrant to a G2X. I'm just going to try the G2X for a few weeks and see if I like it. I've been using Titanium on my Samsung for some time now. Do I just copy the Titanium backup folder from my old phone's internal SD and copy to the new phone's SD? Do I move any other files?
Thanks.
That should work no problem. Just don't try to restore system apps and files to the new phone. User apps and data only. And yes all you need is the folder labeled "titanium backup".
Thanks I'll give it a try
yes just copy the titanium backup file to your new phone and download app on new phone
As long as its rooted.

I just tried this while moving from a rooted Droid 1 to rooted Droid 2, I keep getting that the restore fails. Tried various times... is there something I'm missing?
I've never worked with the Droid but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Did you move the file to the removable sd card and then move it from phone to phone or just copy it from one phone to the next with a computer?
Did a full backup with Titanium and moved sd card to the new phone. Tried to restore a few different apps and I keep getting a message that it failed.
hi .
i use titanium backup from my last galaxy tab and now i copy those back up files to my new GS2 but in titanium backup restore part show 0 files to restore !! what should i do ?
Ive also been thinking about trying out the g2x

Hi,
A while ago (months) I found a script on here that helped me to create a 1gig partition, and then tell the phone that it was phone memory and the used that to store apps.
The last couple of times I tried to update my CM7 nightly (I did my last update in May and haven't had time since) my phone has reverted to it internal storage and not remembering how I got there, I just rolled it back.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can put the 1 gig partition back as phone memory (I tried looking for the script again, but can't remember which one it is. I only need to tell the android it's there right?)
Thanks
Probably Data2Ext. Use the info in this thread to use it again
Thanks, that's exactly what I used the first time. I'll go upgrade.
Cheers
So I've never rooted and unlocked my G2 since purchasing it which is very odd for me.
Since TowelRoot was so accessible and I've got some free time lately decided to get back in the game.
My problem or question comes from not having an SD card. Do I need to backup Data? Trying to do a backup in TWRP is like 8Gb and after some efforts i've only got 5gb free. Do I need to get chopping away or was that going to backup stuff that wasn't going to be messed with anyways?
Anyone know how to delete large selections of photos without having to click on them one by one or not doing all at once?

So are you rooted and have custom recovery now? 8gb seems like a lot. You could always store everything on your PC. To delete photos all at once you could make a folder then just delete the folder

Yeah, when I go into TWRP I can't back up because I'm out of space.
I'll backup on my computer soon so I can have piece of mind.
Thanks

If you want a back up that you can flash if you get in trouble all you need to backup is system, data and boot. If you backup everything you could just store on PC to save room. When you backup data system and boot shouldn't take too much room. No problem
