Hi,
A while ago (months) I found a script on here that helped me to create a 1gig partition, and then tell the phone that it was phone memory and the used that to store apps.
The last couple of times I tried to update my CM7 nightly (I did my last update in May and haven't had time since) my phone has reverted to it internal storage and not remembering how I got there, I just rolled it back.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can put the 1 gig partition back as phone memory (I tried looking for the script again, but can't remember which one it is. I only need to tell the android it's there right?)
Thanks
Probably Data2Ext. Use the info in this thread to use it again
Thanks, that's exactly what I used the first time. I'll go upgrade.
Cheers

Hello,
I'm brand new at Linux (actually less than that) but I'm pretty tech savvy, so i figured if i rooted my phone by following instructions it wouldn't be too bad. well trying to make a long story short...
...rooted my phone, it worked, set programs to run from SD, it worked, then about an hour later I opened up lynda file manager and my phone crashed back to the original home ( i use ahome) I tried to go back into ahome but it didnt show up on my phone, as a matter of fact all of my apps where gone that came from the market. I decided to reset my phone figuring it was just a glitch with the file manager, and i found myself stuck at the blinking android of DOOM!!!! I was able to boot into safe mode, alt-w my phone and restart it.
...ok here is my question thru all of that mess, my 8gb SD card now shows that it is only 7gb and nothing about the 900mb that i turned into sk2 it is gone! I used paragon partition 9 to make it and it wont even show up in that. I want to retry to put apps on my SD, but if my card is gonna keep messing up i dont care to have to go thru all of the steps again.
...has this happened to anyone, or do you know anyway to fix(prevent) it from happening again?
thanks,
-tekka
ps please forgive any errors in this post for i am to tired to try and correct them. gnight everyone

firstly - not even sure what "tech savvy" means
secondly - when you move the apps to SD for the first time they are all still installed but do NOT show in the market .. they are reset as FREE until you install them a second time
thirdly - how are you checking partitions? because after you wiped the phone you have to redo the process to mount the EXT2 to the phone .. otherwise it seems to not exist
fourthly - fear not .. you are not the first to have this dilemma
busybox df -h
I've had to wipe and re wipe so many times now....good thing it's kinda fun I think I have my partition strait now and have verified my system\sd\apps and data folder.
Is there any way to make the phone still boot up at least if it looses that connection?

boot into the recovery console .. that's about it
So i got a HTC wildfire a few days ago, wanted that extra access(still have no idea what it does) i rooted it with unrEVOked, took some time but was quite easy. After rooting it said "low phone memory" only had like 9mb free. What can i do about this? I mean i only had this phone for a few days it had like 15games on it before root. Also just got a new 8gb memory card and the phone isn't using it at all. i dont want to flash a new rom if theres a way to fix the memory problem.
2nd thing is its recommended to backup your files(or the whole rom, idk) with nandroid before you flash a new rom, how do i do that? i found something about it but it was about a completely different phone, if theres a tutorial somewhere please give me a link
Sorry if all of this is on the forum, i was searching for like 2hours before posting this, found some info but it was about other phones or maybe outdated

Ok, I have run this install method 2x today http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957&highlight=verygreen+sd+bootable *VeryGreen*
Now, I am not new to rooting but haven't been keeping up with my nook as I passed it on. Went from CM7 stable to MIUI couldnt' stand the market issues and didn't want ot deal with removing the up dater..blah blah blah ok enough of that
I have followed the instructions and was have booted CM fine but each time I look at my SD card I only have the one partition. Should I be partitioning it myself before doing the steps metitioned or should the install make the partions for me then I just write the FAT or FAT32 (<---top of my head) myself post install.
I wanted a dual boot but figured I would wait for CM9 to come out and wanted to test the SD install. Also, the system seems laggy and I would attribute that to the card i'm using but was also wondering if maybe it was from the partitions? I believe the card is only showing 120 mb used and 14 unused.
Thanks, for any help I have been working on this for 3 days different scenerios and used searches but I get so many dated threads.

If you are using windows you will only see the first partition.

That would be why, hadn't thought about that but was going to into partitioning i myself this evening in linux either would have seen this or been worse for the wear. Thanks, seems it's still not running as smooth and I am thinking it' the card, I'll just got with old faithful for now and work on it more after NYE have a trip coming up and would rather have it in state I know works.
Cheers
I have an U8800H for about a year. I've used a lot of ROMs with it, and most of them worked perfectly.
Some months ago, Huawei released the 2.3.5 Firmware update for our phone. I installed it and faced the lot of problems that most of them are by now well known and some of them repaired.
But one of these problems was the curious "SD destroyed" problem, that plagues -as I found- a lot of U8800 users but is also so sporadic that is very difficult to pinpoint - and is present in EVERY ROM that is based on 2.3.5 update (.35 kernel).
Let me explain:
After some days with the 2.3.5 update, my phone crashed and rebooted. When rebooted, I found that my Trancend 4GB SD card was not mounted anymore. The phone could not mount it and found it as "destroyed". When I tried to mount it again, some times the phone reported that "SD card was ready to be removed" or such, and others that the card was "destroyed".
The card, though, was perfectly readable by all of my PCs and other phones. The only way to mount it again in U8800 was to copy its contents somewhwere else, format it, put back the contents and insert it again in the phone, after rebooting it. And, strangely, the card was working again perfectly, for 1-2 days at least, until this problem repeat itself.
I thought that the problem was one of the stock ROM's many faults, so I tried a lot of other ROMS, like MIUI, CM7, etc. The problem repeated itself in every one of these ROMS.
I thought that my card was problematic, so I tried to use an older but perfectly unused 2GB Kingston SD card. The problems repeated with this card, also. I also used the new card with the other ROMs. I lost many hours and the problem was always there.
I also tried two 1 GB cards and three 16GB cards. I had the same experience with any of these, emerging after of 2-3 days of use of every card.
I found a lot of forum posts where users are reporting the same problem, without any solution, probably because it happens not to every phone and because it's also sporadic.
I thought that my phone was broken, so I installed the original stock ROM, as the service center would not accept it with a custom ROM. But when I reverted back to the original, the problem disappeared!
With the old stock ROM, everything is running perfectly and the SD card is always correctly mounted.
I tried to go back to the new custom ROMs, only to meet again with the same problem. The new "Gingerbread" ROMs, have obviously a bug!
Now I am using the old stock ROM and I have no problem, again.
I am writing all these to ask If someone has the same problem, and to report it as a bug that is hidden somewhere inside the .35 kernels.
You should have post this topic in the Q/A Section :|
It's not a question, its the report of a bug inside the .35 kernels. It's now specific to one of them, but present to all, that's why I had to create a new thread.
I have found also that the problem lies with the new gingerbread bootloaders and it is not present in the froyo bootloaders.
moving this thread to general section.
Try fix permissions in cwm. It works for me.

I have the same problem with SD cards on my U8800.
It has destroyed 2 cards so far for me. When I first did the official gingerbread upgrade it didn't go well I had to try and install it multiple times and it kept going into boot loops. The end result was that my Class 10 16GB card became so damaged that it wasn't even detectable on multiple PCs with various card readers.
Thanks Huawei £15 down the drain.
My second card and I suspect my third card which is still in my phone, have problems with writing. Small writes are OK but as soon as something writes more than a few MB the card fails silently and the OS or phone thinks the file has been written but it hasn't and then subsequent writes fail. Unmounting and remounting the card in the phone makes it writable again for a while. These symptoms persist even when used on a PC so the phone is doing something bad which damages the card.
This problem occurs with dzo's ICS as well as official GB so I think the original posters assumption that it must be some code in the bootloader that is causing this problem is likely correct.
I'd love Huawei to fix this or find a workaround as I would rather not return my phone because I would likely only get refunded 50% of what I paid originally and I actually really like the phone.
Froyo roms worked fine with the SD card, it is definitely the poor quality Huawei update that has caused this.
I think I have an answer. Back when I started tampering with the phone I had changed the data/internal usb partition sizes as here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1112857.html
Somewhere I read about a user who had the same problem as us, and he had done the same change.
So today I reverted back to the original partition sizes, installed 2.3.5 stock ROM and the o/c kernel and until now I have no problem.
Maybe something in the new firmware doesn't like the changed partitions and thus the problem is created...
Sensimilla, If you also changed the partition sizes, then we have an answer.
Update: The bug reappeared. After 4-5 hours of heavy use, my 4GB card was once again "destroyed". So the partition sizes had nothing to do with it.
So, I tried what entrapmen suggested. I booted to recovery and chose "fix partitions". And it worked. My card was once again mounted correctly.
I don't know what to say. I will keep posting until we find a more permanent solution...
It seems I found a permanent solution: Install Aurora ICS 4.0.4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492957
I am using it for about 20hours now and everything runs smoothly. Probably the new Android 4 bootloaders fixed the bug.
(And as an added bonus, our phone gets a radio!)
Hopefully it works for you, too.

Dont get much excited. Im using ics and time to time problem still occurs but not that much. Like i said before a fix permissions resolve the problem.

It's nearly 3 days now with ICS 4.0.4 and the bug didn't appear - and I did some heavy testing. I transfered lots of small and big files to my 4GB card without the slightest problem many times.
I did some more testing on my sdcard and it is indeed damaged. It seems to have been set to read only permanently. Windows 7 doesn't detect this but I downloaded the official sdcard formatter from panasonic and it says the card is read only. Apparently there is a small protected section of the card that is hidden and used for DRM, read only can be marked in this section of the card. Normally this section is only writable by the card manufacturer. I guess as the phone has low level access to the card via hardware this section could have been inadvertently damaged by Huawei's bug ridden update. This is the same state that my previous card ended up in too.
The apparent writing to the card seems to just be the cache on the phone/computer which mounting and unmouting resets.
I will buy another small sdcard and just use it with ICS Aurora this time and see how it goes. I have been using Aurora for the last month anyway. Maybe it will be fourth time lucky.
Just clear the whole MicroSD card with dd program writing it full a random data first and then after that zero.
And if you can not detect the card at all with dmesg program, then that card is destroyed.
It's a week now with ICS Aurora 4.0.4 (206,207 and now 208) and the bug didn't appear at all.
I filled my -previously problematic with 2.3 ROMS- 4GB SD card fully, I even tried to stop file transfers abnormally, pulling the cable. But no problems appeared whatsoever.
So I have to believe that with 4.0.4 the problem is gone.
Hi every1,
i'm having problem with bootloops whenever i use any android SD rom(tested like 5 so far), basically it just tries to boot it - boots for 10-30s and restarts the phone.
I don't know what to start with, since it can't be size problem(have like 6gb dedicated for sd android rom).
Right now i'm trying to achieve it with wp7+android sd dual boot, everything is prepared(wp7 works), but android doesn't.
The thing is that my hd2 has broken volume- button, so i'm not able to get into default bootloader and as a result can't do full wipe. Also i can't choose android folder, so i put all files in root folder and as a result it works like that. Also tried to change startup.txt - removed the rel_path - still the same accours.
Not sure how can i fix it/what to check.
Maby there's way to go into default bootloader w/o volume- button? So i'd be able to reinstall wipe everything and reinstall magldr, not sure how else can i fix it.
Not sure if it's the problem, but anyway here's how i made dualboot(folllowed youtube tut):
created new part out of unallocated space for wp7 of ~8gb size
resized fat16 partition(default wp7) to the max of leftover space(~7gb total)
changed wp7 partition to be primary.
p.s. i tried few roms with latest 4.03-4.04 ics + hwa, but just to be sure also tried gingerbread miui - still the same result.
Anyway there was one weird thing, not sure if it's luck or a problem:
All roms had the same default htc bootloading image - as far as i remember often they're changed, so maby i need to do somekinda reset or something(but i did full format ot the android partition many times :/)
So that's it, looking forward to hear from you soon guys, hopefully i'll make dualboot work somehow :/
EDITED!!!:
After trying other roms - i found out that american droid sd version actually works! Anyway i'd like to make ICS with HWA work :/
EDITED2:
i think so it works because of the fact that it has old bootloading files with rootfs.img, anyway putting this file or +startup file seems not to work, any1 knows how to fully revert to old bootloader which is only for magldr(not magldr+clk)?
NEW UPDATE:
all roms which by default contain rootfs.img do work, others(with that SD_Boot file) do not, any1 could help?
try another sd card

Damn :/ i have f* up 2gb card which i cant' use, and current 16gb is new, won't change it for ics i think so
btw previously i launched some of the roms which don't launch right now tho :S (for ex first ics builds)
