I used to be able to download MMS messages on my HTC Desire HD without having data enabled but on the Nexus 4 I have to have data on.
This kinda bugs me because I do have unlimited picture messaging but I don't have a data plan and my service provider is complete ****e so they charge me $5 if I use any data.

How could you receive MMS with no data connection when that's what MMS is?...data..that makes no sense

My carrier let's me use data for MMS buy not for web browsing, etc.
My DHD allowed me to have Data disabled and would turn it on and only allow my messaging app through to download the MMS.

That is a sense feature. Miui has it also

If you have unlimited picture messages then that shouldn't count against your data limit. Check your apn settings. You should have a separate one just for mms as opposed to having one for both data and mms.

Yeah, but apps like Mail and others use data and if I even start using a little bit I get charged $5 for 10MB and then $3/MB there on.
As of now I have a second APN setup with only the APN, MMSC, MMS proxy and MMS port..Is there a rom or something that I can install to get it the way I want?

Anyone able to get mms working? I am using the same settings from my galaxy s 2 but no go on this phone.

I didn't need to put in an APN for T-Mobile it automatically worked.

You have tmobile or straight talk tmobile sim card? The straight talk prepaid has different apn settings than tmobile prepaid.

I always had issues with T-Mobile straight talk MMS what seems to work is just make another APN with just the MMS part but keep the one or using selected Idk why but that's always worked for me , or go SMS and update the MMS part of it with our APN settings , I since have switched to an att straight talk Sim

Cant get MMS working with a T-Mobile Straight Talk sim either. I've tried just about every variation of the settings I can find. Anyone get this working yet?
edit: got it working.
mmsc: http://mms.tracfone.com
mms port: 8080
APN type: default,supl,mms
leave all the other mms settings as is
Mine (iphone/hd2/sensation/nexus) 4 has always worked with just this:
mmsc: http://mms.tracfone.com
port/apn type are both blank.
Is there a way to fix this?
I'm not too familiar with this but I think you need to turn on cellular data in order to send MMS.

You need data in order to send MMS.

It's on..
Are you roaming by any chance some networks won't allow you to send MMS unless you choose to data roam. Like T-Mobile for me. I have to click on enable data roam in order to send stuff. If not maybe try to reboot your phone.

I switched to roaming and that seemed to work!
Hey thanks

You might want to be careful and read up on data roaming. You may incur hefty charges on your network if this option is selected.
Easier and safer route would just to ensure you're mobile data (not wifi) is on whenever you send or receive mms.

What does it mean and should I use it
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I think it's basically text messages over data. You should leave it off, it probably doesn't work with most carriers.
I keep trying to receive MMS messages. But some take forever and others just never come. Is there an APN I should have? I have this one *picture* (T-Mobile)

As per title. I get unlimited free sms but an mms costs 35 pence each. There's no reason why a normal sms can't handle emojis but the messaging app automatically concerts to mms if I put am emojis in the message. I don't have root. Stock BTU MJ6.
Thanks! ?
