I just got my Evo on Saturday and have experienced a problem that I cant seem to fix.
Basically what happens is my home button stops functioning. Instead of taking me back to my default screen, the screen will just flash. So I have to use the back arrow now.
I have launcherpro and beautiful widgets installed, but I dont know if either of these would cause the issue.
Ive had to reboot my phone several times before its fixed, then it will randomly happen again.
Has anyone experienced this? Please help. This is so frustrating and annoying.
Thank you,
Whiteice
EDIT So I unstalled launcher pro plus and beautiful widgets and rebooted and its still happening. Im trying to find out if this is an issue others have experienced or if I have a defective unit that I need to return?
try clearing sense default, settings, applications, manage applications, touch ALL at top, scroll down to HTC Sense, touch it then scroll down to clear default

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately the option to clear default is grayed out.
Try getting default home from the market, it lets u clear it
Swyped from my fresh evo
Dude the same thing was happening to me. When u try to press the home button it would jus flicker back and forth between screens or something like that. And the only way I got rid of it buddy was rooting and flashing a new Rom, because the sense Rom has sum sort of bug in it. That's a guaranteed fix.

Are you talking about cleardefaulthome that your talking about?
And as far as rooting, Im a noob at it and not sure how to do it. Is their a one click method by chance?
Thank you,
Whiteice
No, I don't mean clear defaults. I mean flashing to a custom built Rom. That's the only way that problem will stop. I only know this because when I first got my Evo I had the same problem. I thought it was something I was going to have to deal with but I noticed the problem was gone sum time after me rooting my phone. This was not planned, it was just knowledge from experience. Yes there is a one click method for your phone called unrevoked3. You will jus need a few things. To install on ur computer. Check out this link and follow the instructions very carefully. http://www.jonamerica.com/technology/howto-root-the-htc-droid-incredible/ if u seem to get stuck which u probably will, jus let me know and I can TRY to help. It shouldn't be a hard or long process but if u don't have any experience then it might take a little while. And by the way, follow these instructions at ur own will, because I am not responsible for what happens to your phone. If u find something that u don't completely understand, just do what I do, Google It! GOOD LUCK
r0cky.Da.3v0.SU.
And by the way, you'll love your phone ten times more once u root. Speed and full customization can't get any better.http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l596/r0ckyda5st4rg3neral/snap20101121_100650.png

I've searched for a while and I havent been able to find a definite answer.
In one thread that pulled up during my search I read someone tried to install it but it wouldnt work and one possible reason was that they were running a stock odex'd rom.
I too am running stock 2.1. The only modifications I've made is removing the Sprint-ware. But I really want to get rid of the default Epic lockscreen.
Another thread I searched in was the thread with the deodex'd rom and I came across this post...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8411773&postcount=11
Which says the update broke the Vanilla Lockscreen mod. If I read that right, the vanilla lockscreen didnt appear to work with the deodex'd rom either.
Has anyone been able to successfully get the Vanilla Lockscreen working on a stock device with root? I dont really want a custom ROM since I havent been able to notice a difference between stock and custom. Also stock runs just fine for me.
Any help would be appreciated. I've tried doing all the searching I can with no luck.
YES! I absolutely second this motion. Ha ha. I've actually considered getting rid of my Epic for an Evo based solely on the fact that the lockscreen is the worst designed POS I've ever seen. Up is the most unnatural way to slide your thumb for the most common function on the phone. I'd love to see ANY other lockscreen on here. I haven't looked extensively, but I have browsed and googled it and can't seem to find anything.
Sorry if this isn't the answer you are seeking, but floating around somewhere I believe there is a rooted and deodex'ed (and nothing else) stock ROM. I was using Epic Experience before getting on this 2.2 fix. It's mostly stock and very stable from my experience.
my Iconia (always more often) flashes in the launcher, flickers and most of the times everything disappear apart the wallpaper...
i have used apex, nova, trebuchet, holo... all (before or later) start flickering and then die... only way out is to kill the launcher or start another one somehow.
my rom is reflexxx stryker rev 4.2 (but i also used cm9 and had some problem)
i have ics bootloader, but i can't say what version, sorry
i have seen some posts about this problem,
most common idea is that the problem is in the ics bootloader.
the only idea of a solution was to go back to honeycomb BL
but those posts i saw where almost 2 months old... so i wanted to ask:
are there any new solution about this? any new hints? any new ideas?
it is also difficult to search about this on the forum.. since i don't know exactly what to search
thanks anyone for any hint.

As far as I know there is no fix. I've tried many different roms and bootloaders as well as MANY launchers. The only way that I have been able to tone it down is to not use Google widgets. But even then when I play something that uses 3d graphics it may still trigger. I've taken logcats and it says something about some sort of video error, researched it a little and found nothing. I hope that someone has a solution.

i tried to use less widgets... but doesn't really change much...
it is very random, but in my experience it appears more often when battery is low
do you feel the same?
i hope it can be fixed, i'm seriously thinking to sell it because of that (but who will buy it..?)

Don't sell it, just flash stock. I tried them all and had problems. Stock for me run's with no problems and the fastest just give it a try and you won't look back.

I went stock for a while and it was noticeably less often, I still had the issue. Especially when playing Great Little War Game. So I just went back to an overclocked rom. I enjoy the performance more than I regret the flashing screen...
as i wrote to JdgM3NT4L in a pm:
my "solution" is to put a home switcher app shortcut in the lockscreen.
so that when it happens i can kill apex or switch to nova
i mirrored my settings in apex and nova (nova can import all apex settings automatically)
that's the way i survive this boring bug
if someone like the "solution" can try it
and maybe hit thanks button

I actually did the rollback to 3.1, updated officially over the air all the way up. Complete stock. It was better, but the issue persisted.
Loth, I have not noticed if the charge had much effect, But one thing that I think that seems to trigger it is when there is a game/app going that is using 3d graphics, and then any sort of notification pops up as an overlay. There is one rom that I could get it to do this almost on command. I could have a game going and the check the notifications. 80% of the time that was enough to get the flashing started.
So perhaps what you've noticed could be triggered by the low battery popup?
I can say that the latest Flexreaper ShellSHOCK does this very rarely. Maybe three times in the last few weeks, and I play with the tablet a lot.

i installed latest shellshock, let's see
It happens to me all the time with all the launchers I 've tried. I am in unlocked ics bootloader and stock rom. The same happened with the locked bootloader. I tried the CM10 Rom same results. I removed all widgets from the homescreen with no luck.
If it's in the ICS Bootloader then all must have the same problem or not?
Any solution except going back to 3.2?
To fix it I had to go full stock to Honey Comb then reinstall CWM then install Thor cm v15 and no problems since. I think the problem is the ICS bootloader
After some good times with few troubles, now it is again a huge problem: i almost can't use the tablet it happens every day and more than once.
I think I'll go back to stock honeycomb

So the title says it all im on current golden eye I have flashed done a clean install and I notice when im on the lock screen and I receive a sms my phone decides to reboot I have used the suggested kernel as im in canada any ideas?
Not sure if I can factory reset while on golden eye and keep golden eye after this is done. I have seen similar issues in here with other roms.
I would love to keep this rom as my daily driver as everything works well except this little hiccup. .
Oh and a little off my original topic I have also noticed XDA keeps reloading after I signed in and cant zoom in I have had this issue on many roms not just this one..
Anyways thanks in advance for any ideas to help.
think I figured it out
Seems as though it was widget locker 2.4.1 deleted it and bam hasnt rebooted yet I liked it because I can swype to unlock and after a set amount of time I would have my lock screen any one know how to achieve this with out widget locker?
I would recommend posting in the GoldenEye thread and asking iB4STiD there. He does great with responding to questions that are not already covered in that thread.
Let me elaborate:
So earlier today I was messing around with Density Changer while going to Kingsville to see my brother. I was messing around with the DPI value, changing it from 480 to 420 and such. I changed it to 520 and, like normal, asked me to reboot. I rebooted.
The phone started up a lot longer than usual. I thought that this was just a simple glitch, but it took longer for a reason. The time and date on my lock screen wasn't working. Messaging, Contacts, Camera, Samsung keyboard, and the sort wasn't working. Worst of all, TouchWiz wasn't working either. In panic, I tried to open Density Changer from settings but couldn't. I reset my phone to the factory settings. It was rather quick to format (I didn't have much except for some PSP roms and gallery images). I was relieved for a bit, but when it booted it was still unfunctional, not to mention the keyboard still didn't work, so I had to skip a ton of steps. Since TouchWiz was still broken, I set the home screen to Easy Mode. When I looked around with Easy Mode, I realized that you can run apps there without it crashing. I felt so dumb. So now I can't log in to the Play Store to undo what I did, I don't have the app anymore, TouchWiz won't work, I don't even know if I can recieve messages, yada yada. I feel like I am so screwed.
TL;DR changed the DPI from 480 to 520, all hell went loose. did factory reset in panic, even more screw.
Does anyone know what I can do instead of sending it for repair? I don't think AT&T will be able to repair it anyways-- just to give me a new phone.
Try download the last official att rom and use odin. You can find it here in XDA forum. Good luck

I appreciate that you want to help! It means a lot. But before I attempt this, does this change absolutely EVERYTHING to default? I think the reason why my phone got so messed up was because the DPI was too high. :/
Do you know what firmware you're on? And if you have a custom recovery did you make a nandroid before you started messing around? If you did, like you should have, just restore that.

MAKE SURE YOUR NOT ON THE MF3 UPDATE. IF YOU ARE DO NOT ATTEMPT.
If your running MDL or lower, then download the MDL package and flash it with odin. It will indeed make everything stock.
MDL Package
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23134718111253756
Odin
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23134718111253763
1. Place phone in download mode
2. Hook to computer via USB
3. Open Odin
4. Click the PDA button and place the MDL file you just downloaded there.
5. Click start.
The process will take a few minutes, so don't panic. Let me know if that fixed it.
Shoot, man. I'm on the MF3 update. I have root though, will that help with fixing it?

Go to a Best Buy that has a Samsung Experience booth and see if they will restore factory MF3 for you. Then, I suggest you don't do ANYTHING to your phone but use it for calls and stock abilities.
it really amazes me just how many people in the past few days have screwed up their phones, and the ONLY reason is because they didn't read

Yep, the more popular the phone, the more people that get a hold of it that shouldn't be doing anything with it except making calls. Laziness and ignorance will create a brick every time. The truly funny part is how quick they run here to make a post for people to fix their screw-ups, but they wouldn't come here to take a little time and effort to learn and read about what to do and how to do it in the first place.

Hey, now. I almost have it fixed. I just need the .apk file for Density Changer so I can install it, paste "480" into the box and reboot. Would someone be so kind to do it for me? This laptop is a school laptop which has Fortinet as an antivirus and a website restrictor. I would do it myself but my parents are considering taking me to AT&T ASAP when I go back home tomorrow.
But, yeah. I should have read on. I know that bigger values made the screen smaller, but I guess the S4 goes crazy when that happens.

You can try using a root level file explorer to navigate to /system, long press build.prop to open with a text editor, find the following line and change it to 480, then reboot. Root Explorer or ES File Explorer will do what you need.
ro.sf.lcd_density=480

Keyboard doesn't work. I was almost going to do that until I realized it. I'm just looking around for any DPI changing applications that allow it to any number (LCD Density Changer only allows it to 280).
I would set it to 280 if I could handle the small-ass icons. I can't, so I'm not gonna bother with that.

The default MF3, yeah. Fixed it with www-57.zip-pysha-re.co-m/v/78538033/file.html (remove those dashes). I went on Google Chrome and used voice recognition to get 460, pasted it in the DPI box, applied it. Everything's good now.

Well, it's really not about messing up. What is done is done. It's about learning from it and not doing it again. I can tell you are on the right path because you are trying to fix it. You screwed up... a lot of people screw up...what is important is not doing it again. Always read as much as you can about anything before you try it. It's just a phone and it is always replaceable but you can save yourself a lot of trouble by reading before doing. Like I said, i think you realize that. I'm sure you don't want to go through this type of trouble again to just get the phone working. What you did (change the dpi) isn't a big deal but it has big consequences. I was mostly referring to people that that try to "root", put custom recoveries on their phones, custom ROMs, etc. There is so much information about these things in the XDA forums it isn't funny, yet people think they don't need to read and learn about it or they think their time is too valuable. But as soon as they screw up (and they always do), all of the sudden, they find the time to come to XDA and beg for someone to fix their phone. As soon as someone points out that they should have read and learned in the first place, they get a smug attitude and act like people "owe" them a fix for their stupidity. Like I said, not necessarily your situation, but it happens all of the time regardless.
**Edit**
I'm am glad you fixed your phone and is is encouraging to see how much work and effort you put into fixing it. It would be nice if everyone put that kind of effort into fixing their phones. I have a feeling you will do just fine with modifying your phone.
