[Q] Fallout New Vegas/Splashtop THD help? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Today I got ''Splashtop THD'' for my ASUS Nexus 7 (Wi-Fi, 32 gigs, 4.2.2 if any of that helps, it has the latest version of the app''
I had Fallout New Vegas on my PC and I wanted to play it on my tablet, when I played it, I had to use the Nexus as the Keyboard and Mouse and I couldn't see the gameplay on my tablet, it was horrible. I would much rather prefer if my tablet could see the gameplay. I've put the resolution on 1280x720 [Letterbox] and medium graphics, I don't mind decreasing the graphics, I prefer performance and Minecraft is VERY SLOW on the tablet when the PC can play it perfectly on 140fps on all the things max'd out. Please help and give me a step-by-step instructions on how to get them to run at a good framerate. Also put the other game's methods to run on Splashtop THD.
EDIT:
I've got the games to start and work but it is VERY SLOW. I also tried Unreal Tournament 2004, even old games are slow as hell.

games are no good while using the lapdock

i have yet to find a game that can be played properly on the lapdock. kind of sucks i was looking foward to playing games on a bigger screen ...
Not surprising considering many games don't run at tablet resolutions either. While the laptop dock is a nice idea it does not account (well) for the fact that most android software is written for phones and phone size screens. On top of that I think the laptop dock is clearly aimed at the productivity market, so game compatibility is likely just an afterthought if it was considered at all.
been playing games on the multimedia dock on an HDTV, and most play just fine for me. angry birds is flawless, and SNESoid plays smooth.
Actually SNESois on the TV with a Wii controller is awesome.

My amazing experience, Splashtop thd /Tincore + no router + no nvidia.

Iv been playing with my shield for awhile and have had an amazing experience, despite the obvious poor marketing of the product and unnecessary handicap nvidia has added in order to boost gpu sales with regards to streaming(I only buy nvidia graphic cards but it still should not be required).
The shield is the best handheld iv ever owned, I felt compelled to share my experience
1. created a virtual hotspot on my sony vaio duo 11 hd 4000 gpu(most laptops have dual band network cards built in) and connected shield. No router was necessary.(although a router would be a few frames faster)
Loaded Splastop thd gamepad
In gamepad mode you can just easily click any key on your shield and it registers on any game config menu on your pc!! that was awesome.
Played
Metro last night, loved it!
Borderlands 2, Worked Awsome! Im never going near my alienware M15x again. (used fullscaler to run games fullscreen 720p)
2 Loaded PPSSPP on my LAPTOP, streamed it to my shield!! Played Gta Liberty city, crisis core, god of war all full speed! And streamed perfect.
3. Played Fangz HD, Gangstar Vegas, Brotherhood of violence (gets better) all mapped with TinCore keys. Perfect experience.
Why the shield is better than my other devices in MY opinion.
a.Moga pro cannot pull any of this off due to the lag
b.My other devices could stream but needed the 360 controller to be attached to the pc
I felt compelled to say how much i love the shield so I wrote this, however Im very disappointed that Nvidia chose to force people to buy a new gpu to enjoy it when it can easily work with almost any Gpu. I have an Alienware M15x with a 560m which i did not use this time due to network issues.. however Im not sure if I want a new desktop. The hardware limitation seems artificial, still this is the best device iv owned.
My devices
xperia tablet z,iphone 5, galaxy s4 with moga pro
Ps vita, dsi
Hope splashtop THD comes to shield natively)
How did you get Splashtop THD working on your shield? When I look it up in the Play store, it says it's not compatible with the Shield. Really looking to see how this works, because I want to find some way to play Steam games on my shield and miracast stream them to my TV at the same time.
you have to side load the apk file which you can find online. it works great.

can get PPSSPP natively on Shield, works great apparently.
I know how you feel about the shield it's an amazing device with infinite possibilities for example you can play from DOS to PSP emulators you can play real PC games ,Android games , watch movies ,stream movies, browse the web, chat basically this device does it all
you should try Kainy is sometimes better than splashtop http://www.kainy.com/

I only wish I could stick in my sim card and use it as my AIO phablet/gamingconsole. Looking into a micro usb sim modem to possibly get to work.
Im going to try kainy, it looks a bit complicated to connect, I use splashtop thd because the mouse works perfectly on it, it feels its emulating a gamepad. the other splashtop personal is deliberately broken by the company when it comes to gaming because the mouse movement is way off and in most other games the mouse movement is impossible.
forgot to mention the battery life.. it lasts for hours n hours, I can stream all day!
Isn't Lag present ??
Is it almost the same lag you see (See video) & tell
I've taken a video of the same using Kainy.

Streaming from a pc is way smoother, Nativly PPSSPP cant play many games properly on the shield, God of war for example.

No, my lag is nothing like that even without a router, Make sure your laptop or pc has wireless N(you must have a wireless N card) enabled and you are using WPA2 encryption. (you need to use it for high speed access)
and
a. use splashtop THD, gamepad mode .. sadly you cant stream lower than 720p (so there maybe a slight lag barely noticeable)
b..Dont use the touchscreen to control games it wont work well.
c. when makeing a virtual hotspot, directly connect to your pc, do not connect to your router..

Haha yea Iv tried that it still doesnt give you the same feeling as the shield mainly because even the speakers are so good and the battery outlasts everything, but yes there is a flaw with the weight and screen size of the shield.
Iv updated ppsspp but I get 100% speed on pc when I stream to the shield. When I load it on my shield natively it runs around 60% to 65% im sure it will get there soon.
I just tried splashtop THD and Kainy is not even close to the nvidia streaming I didn't noticed lag in splashtop but image quality is poor same with kainy and that one lag as hell
there is no way to show people how much better is the nvidia streaming to the shield until they can see it in person the image is at least 90% of what you see in the computer is almost like you playing the game natively on the shield
More people need to mail splashtop to officially support the shield in the THD version, since the d-pad and left stick are pre locked to WASD
I'll try out how SplashTop does
And post a video if possible soon!

I'll be glad to make comparison videos if someone will be able to port the Shield streaming app to other device removing the chipset check
Splashtop 2 is the last version I used to stream. I will agree that the quality of the stream is very low in comparison to what I was actually on my pc.

Yes the compression quality between splastop personal and THD when hooked up nvidia gpu's is on a very noticeable level, Im not sure what they are doing with THD tegra to nvidia streaming but its got some sort of specific coding maybe someone can find out since it works with all previous gen nvidia cards.
I'd like to jump in with some newb questions:
If I download splashtop THD and combine it with Tincore, I can mimic using the shield game streaming? As in, I can play something like FFXIV from my computer to it and be able to control it properly?
THD is on sale right now 50% @ $9.99 Do I buy it even tho it isn't "compatible"?

I'm running CM 10.1 on my Nook HD+, and just finished watching the last 9 races of the America's Cup on it (using the official America's Cup app from Google Play store). No problems at all, looked great. Watched a number of HD videos that I'd downloaded (e.g., Harvard Science and Cooking lectures). Fine all around, screen resolution is fantastic.
Not a big gamer, but have been playing Where's My Water (after watching my daughter play it) and a version of the old favorite Tetris. Again, graphics are fine, no lag issues.
I think you'll be very happy.

I bought one (hd+) about 3 months ago, and have been using CM10.2-sdcard as daily driver for about a couple of weeks. Reasonably fast for Netflix, Hulu-plus, Adobe Reader (PDFs with heavy graphics). Not sure about games. Not laggy at all for videos.
I have a Nook HD+ at my home, I gave it to my father. He lets my younger brother play with it all the time; playing various Google Play games, Nintendo 3DS ROMs and so much more. It's rarely ever used for reading at my home, other than when web browsing.
I would completely recommend a Nook HD+ for your entertainment purposes. It plays 1080p video files (.avi, .mp4 and .mkv are all what I've tested) perfectly fine using MX Player. Games work on it perfectly too, however, don't expect too many games to be compatible or expect to play the latest high-end graphical games. The three reasons for this is, firstly, the graphics performance of the tablet is not the greatest, but then again we can't expect it to be at a bargain price. Secondly the dual-core processor can't push as much as today's quad-cores can, and finally; many games and apps don't support the full 1080p resolution of the tablet (i.e. Sims FreePlay and other similar apps only support 720p or lower resolution screens). Of course, the last factor plays a major role but more apps are starting to support the higher resolution.
Games are compatible however, and you have a large selection on the Google Play store. The Nook should be able to run Hill Climb Racing, granted the game supports the 1080p resolution. If it does, the Nook will eat the game for breakfast. The games I've run on the tablet which was slow/laggy are Asphalt 7 and 8. FIFA 14 seems to run decent though.
Once you do open your Nook, remember to install CyanogenMod 10.1 stable (not nightly), of course by then we could have CM10.2 or even later. I used the Nook before the 2.0.10 update, and it was not worth having (no apps/games were installable, nor did Google Play come as standard). Once CyanogenMod was installed, it was a full fledged tablet, competing against the likes of the Nexus 7. Of course, with the 2.0.10 update, the Nook can now download Google Play apps. For the sake of Android, I would still recommend CyanogenMod however.
Once you install CyanogenMod, which is an easy process, you'll love your tablet. It should completely satisfy your entertainment needs.
I hope you enjoy it, and an early Merry Christmas.

I read there are apps that make the games run at 720p so if they cant run 1080p it will be smoother

Heavy 3D suffers a bit at the high resolution of the HD+, but general GUI and video always seem smooth to me.

That app creates instability and can create boot issues. Not worth it IMO, but already "took" my $2. This function is more suitable at kernel level and part of settings. Best IMO to avoid.
It is also a battery sucking mess in sleep mode. The app must constantly poll the chipset.

It is not as much the app as how it changes the resolution that is standard for all.

Shield = My Precious

I got mine from Best Buy last week. It has 4.2 out of box and I plan on sticking with that due to emulators playing slower on 4.4 and 3rd party external writing killed. I am really liking the device more than expected. Here are IMO key points (good & bad).
+ Battery life and standby time are great
+ Display is very good for 720p
+ Controller works great
+ The key reason I like this design over using an external gamepad is the integration with apps. Huge plus.
+ All emulators tested work superbly: NES, GBC, GBA, PCE, Genesis, SNES, Neo Pocket, Amiga, C64, MAME, PSX, N64, DC, Wonderswan, Master System, Gamegear and DS. Playing Dead or Alive 2 with Reicast is super serious superb.
+ DoomGles is great and so are the Quake games. Those games and Android games are much better with the Shield controller.
+ I find myself going back to games I stopped playing due to the controls. Dual sticks for shooters is pure good.
+ Speakers are as everybody says. Very good.
- Wifi is robust, but sometimes stops working even though says still connected. I have a LOT of devices and this is the only one that has the issue.
- The 5" display is too small for MAME games that are designed for long portrait displays like most shootemups, Digdug, etc. At least with a tablet of phone you can rotate the display and not have black bars taking up a lot space.
- Not a Shield negative, but Google and their blatant attempt to passively aggressively kill off external storage. Even if emulator issues are fixed in the next Nvidia update, I will not bother due to this. I would rather not root, since means starting all over again and brick concerns. I vested some fairly serious time in setting everything up.
- I find games like Modern Combat and NOVA 3 too small on the display, so would expect PC games to be even more tiny. The Shield 2 could fit a 5.8" display and that would help. At least for the Android games. MC 4 and NOVA 3 both play great though, and ditto for Asphalt 8.
As far as a Shield 2:
1. At least a 5.5" display, but can stay at 720p. Better for game performance and battery.
2. Have a plugged in and battery mode option. Full tilt with fan when plugged into power and allow customizing if not.
3. 32GB flash. Goople's lame card killing effort compels this for a gaming device. Really.
4. K1, of course.
That is pretty much it. I would buy this again if just added the four things noted above. Shield would be a 10 if had a bigger display. 9/10 as is
They didnt kill writing to the sdcard completely. Apps can only write to their respective folders which no big deal how many games need to access a different games folder. You can still move apps to sd and you can still write anything you want to the sd card using a root explorer. As for The emulator slow downs they are so minor you cant really notice them. I had to update to 72 because it supports laptop streaming.

The big issue is people are reporting zipped roms have issues as well as saves. A nice thing about the emulators is a resume mode that is relative to the rom folder. Since I have a bunch of roms, not practical to use internal for that. For people that say "Just leave all roms unzipped", that results in on average at least three times more storage space being needed. Even worse for PSX games, since in compressed PBP mode, the games average anywhere from 15MB to 600MB. In correct PSX image mode, a 15MB game is 700MB. Big difference.
Anyway, not a hit on Nvidia, but is with Android. The emulator issue is actually pretty bad to me, since results in game going from smooth to sporadic stutters with 4.4, depending in part on control pad use. Smooth to not smooth is not a good option, IMO. Kind of like using an old Tegra 2 again for emulators. Tegra 2 had some throttle issues, but not due to the OS. Tegra 3 (not Tegra 2) with my Excite 7.7 is smoother with most emulators than Shield with 4.4.
Added: I also have a S4 and Note 2014 and am leaving those on 4.2 as well. Not sure if the emulator issue is Shield specific, but do know the card write issue for all devices. 4.2 does what I need, so no desire to update and then have to go through the trouble and brick potential with rooting. Yes, this is an ironic perspective for an XDA forum.
Hmm thats odd i havent had any troubles with zipped roms on any emulation app. And i have a few. As for the sony pbps i hear you there. Its ridiculous how much filler are in those, i use to rip psp and psx games.
The shield is nearly unbrickable its almost ridiculous how well they did with that. No need for root to go back and forth from system firmwares, but you do have to have an unlocked bootloader which voids warranty although i had to return a rooted unlocked shield and they didnt give me any guff. Not trying to say upgrade to KK but i will say its not as bad as you think.
N64 emulation is superb? Mupen has a lot of N64 games which it cant handle. Granted I know this is an emulator issue, and not an issue with shield capability, but its still disappointing that android emulation hasn't advanced further.
I've read reps from Nvidia stating how surprised they were with emulation being such a popular feature with the Shield. Would it be illegal for Nvidia to work and release emulators, designed exclusively for the Shield, which emulate N64 and Dreamcast games? Considering Reicast and Mupen are allowed on the google play store I don't see why Nvidia can't release their own emulators.
I always thought the roms unzipped into RAM and there was no writing to the card for this process, but reports are some emulators have issues (saves being a key). MAME writes into it's parent directory and no special path can be created for the Android version. Given the 10GB size of my MAME roms, internal storage is not an option and losing settings for roms would mean redoing the settings every time the game is played. No thanks :silly:
As far as N64, I am referring to the control use with games. The PC version is about the same as far as what works, but using certain video plug-ins with Mupen makes a huge difference it what is playable. Mupen plays more games than N64oid as a result.
Going back to zipped file sizes, same thing for PSP, but not as big a ratio. ISO files on average are 50% bigger than compressed CSO files.
For me shield = massive paper weight
None of the games I would use it for on PC or android support it.

Gaming performance?

I've been looking at this as my next tablet, it sounds different and I like the note taking capabilities (having been a Galaxy Note user for years). I don't really game very much if I'm being honest, but I don't like the idea of spending quite a bit of cash on a tablet that's particularly slow. I've trawled around for Geekbench 4 scores and it's coming back at around 1100 single-core and 3100 multi-core.. I can live with that, it's ~3x faster than the Nexus 7 that I'm using at the moment and compared to my Note 4 it's 10-20% faster. Compared to say the Pixel C, which was the other tablet I was considering, it's a bit slower in single-core and about the same in multi-core benches. However, that doesn't really give me much of an idea about gaming. As I already said, I don't really do much gaming, and it's unlikely that I'll do anything much more taxing than Candy Crush, but I don't want to buy something that is overly slow in the first place.
To anybody that has a Yoga Book, what games have you run on it? How has it performed and how does it stack up against any of your other devices?
Cheers in advance.

As for Windows 10 version goes:
- Hearthstone - running fine
- Terrarian - running fine
- Armello - fine on low/medium details
- Portal 2 - running fine on medium/high details
- Torchlight 2 - generally ok-ish but slows down significantly with more effects/mobs
- Mirror's Edge - slideshow even on lowest details
The issue with Windows version & games is that Halo keyboard has issues (see here) so if you are going for windows version, get external keyboard or game pad.
Cheers for that, good to get some actual real world feedback. I'm likely to go for the Android version over the Windows one, however if you can run actual 3D games that were aimed at fully fledged PCs only a few years ago, then I should hopefully be ok running Angry Birds
Anybody else tried something like Real Racing 3 or Goat Simulator or *something* that is to Android devices what Crysis was to PCs?
Hello
I just got the Android version. I have also been wondering about gaming performance. I have been looking around for some information regarding the performance. It seems that the CPU part is comparable to the Snapdragon 810 and the GPU is comparable to the Snapdragon 800. I don't think the GPU part is as bad as it sounds, because most devices using a more powerful GPU's, is also using a higher resolution. But i tried a few games out to see if it run them.
Games:
Modern Combat 5 - OK
N.O.V.A 3 - OK
Riptide GP Renegade - Ok - At default setting (High) but the game suggests lower settings. But the highest settings is made for the Nvidia Shield tv.
Limbo - OK
Colin MCRae rally 2 OK (But you get a warning about possible performance issues. But i didn't notice any)
Newer Alone - OK (It didn't show up in the Playstore, so i installed the game from my cell phone)
Lost Journey - OK
Rayman Adventures - Not OK (Stops before you can play)
Rayman Fiesta Run - OK
Rush Rally 2 - OK
Virtua Tennis (Sega) - OK
Field Runners 2 - OK
Robo Defense - OK
Sonic 4 Episode 1 - Not Ok ( Runs in slowmotion)
Sonic 4 Episode 2 -Ok
Deus Ex The Fall - OK
Crazy Taxi Classic - Not OK ( Hangs while loading)
Wings - OK
Leo's Fortune - OK
Monument Valley - OK
R-type 1 & 2 - OK
Raiden - OK
Minecraft PE - OK
Super Soccer Champs - OK
Emulators:
Amiga 500 - OK (UAE4Arm - IK+ and Pinball dreams Using the Keyboard)
Commodore 64 - OK (C64.emu)
Arcade - OK (Mame4droid 0.139 and FBA4droid - CPS 3, Neo geo and more)
Nes - OK (Nes.emu)
NEC Pcengine - OK (PCE.emu)
Sega Megadrive - OK (MD.emu)
Dreamcast - OK But not all games will run well. But that the way it is with most devices (Raicast)
Playstation 1 - OK - (EPSXE)
Snes - OK (Snes9xEX+)
GBA - Ok (My Boy)
Quake3 - OK (Q3-touch)
Doom - OK (D-touch)
PSP - OK But not all games will run well. But that the way it is with most devices (PPSSPP)
Half Life / Counter Strike - OK (Xash / CS16Client)

To add to the Windows 10 version, TESIV Oblivion (and by extension, Morrowind) run fine on medium settings with the view distance still far away.

The nVidia Shield exclusive Strike Suit Zero plays remarkably well. Unfortunately the game doesn't listen to the halo keyboard, but it does have controller and touchscreen support.
Hi! I have a Lenovo Yoga book Android version and I cant run ppsspp emulator, It stopped before I can open it. How can I fix this
Try downloading and older version from official website.
I had the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition before I got the Yoga Book.
I play:
XCOM: EW Graphics are awesome compared to the Note
Star Wars: KOTOR Same as above
Block Fortress War Same as above
Hitman Sniper Same as above
Games not working right.
Block Fortress Everything is inverted
Call of Duty Strike Team It loads to the main menu but I can't get pass the campaign load screen.
I'm also hesitant between Galaxy Tab s3 and Android version of Yoga Book. I mainly read and brows plus I play Unkilled multiplayer regularly . Does the Yoga handle smoothly Unkilled, Dead Trigger 2 etc. I'm coming from the excellent Galaxy Note 2014 /still in use but now with terrible Chinese battery which somehow makes the software act strangely/ . I'm considering Yoga Book cause it will save me money for Xperia XA1. I am on the budget and trying to maximize the utility.

Yoga Book is a great replacement for the Note 10.1 2014. I had shattered the screen on my Note. It is well worth the price new, even though I got it used for half the price.
How will this tablet work for mail, browsing and social media? And compared to the Galaxy tab 3?

Having the Halo Keyboard is great. Being able to have floating windows is nice.
Can you run warframe?
I´d like to know if someone has tried on the Windows version League of Legends and Medieval II Total war, and how is the performance on those games. Thanks.
Curious if the Windows version would be able to run Minecraft mods (through Technic Launcher, Twitch, etc.) and games on Steam like Stardew Valley, Nier: Automata, DanganRonpa, etc.
Not expecting phenomenal results, but if it runs at least Stardew and light Minecraft mods relatively comfortably, then I'd be happy.

how about this:
Team fortress 2
Elders Scroll Oblivion
Starcraft
Counter Strike Source
Day of Defeat Source
etc, etc
Lenovo Yoga tablet on windows is a must-have device if you are always on the go and need an office machine always to be around. It is small and compact and would fit in a tiny bag. The advantage of having a windows version instead of android is because you have a fully equipped office machine and on android, you are a bit limited to the system therefore on windows you can do whatever you want to. Also, I was curious if anyone on this forum plays cs go as I do. A few hours ago I bought a legendary knife and wanted to ask if this knife is worth something if someone knows the game. Thanks in advance!
