N4 stays in charging mode when fully charged and unplugged - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Frequently, after fully charging, I unplug charger, and N4 still shows "charging 100%". Rebooting solves the problem, but any ideas of a better cure? I only remember this happening after 4.2.2. Is this a known issue that I've missed? Don't have a lot of apps, so I'm not sure if it could be an app. I haven't added any apps before this started. Thanks.

Seems like a bug. Try custom roms and kernels. If this isn't fixed flash the Google images and rma it.

How about we try a less extreme method and just factory reset the thing first?

Thanks. Would you know if the reset will get me back to 4.2.1, or if 4.2.2 is "embedded" as my OS?

A factory reset/wipe data just wipes YOUR DATA, and reverts back to the base installation, which in your case will be 4.2.2

Nexus 4 Hard Lock - How to troubleshoot?

So, my Nexus 4 has been running great. I left the phone on my desk while I watched some TV and when I returned it wouldn't start. I thought this was odd as it had 30% battery when I left. I thought perhaps something was running in the background and managed to run it down. But even after connecting the phone to the charger, it wouldn't restart. However, I was able to reboot the phone into Fastboot mode by holding down the Volume Down + Power key. It restarted and I had 26% battery, so that wasn't the issue. Something must have caused it to lock-up. My question is what I can do to determine the cause. Are the log files that might be of assistance?
I used the Nexus 4 toolkit to unlock + root the phone. About an hour prior to this issue, I flashed the new CWM 6.0.1.9 Touch Recovery using ROM Manager. Other than that, I have no idea what could have caused this. Prior to that, I had the stock recovery installed. As for running software, I just had Gmail, Chrome, Speedtest
It might be because of the Rom try flashing back to stock
The ROM is stock 4.2 with the latest OTA. Do you mean that I should reflash the stock image because my system may be corrupted?

Everything should be ok man. Don't re flash or anything. I did the same to my phone as you and have had amazing battery. Just let it die all the way and recharge. See if it happens.

[Q] Phone.apk crashes every time someone calls me

On AOKP 4.2.1 the phone app crashes when I receive a call. I've reflashed a fresh downloaded GAPPS on here and it does the same thing. When coming to this ROM I wiped all data and factory reset everything. I've tried that again and it's still doing this. Starting to get on my nerves. Anyone have this problem?

try a different rom. you can also try to delete the data for the phone app(then wipe dalvik after).

did you dirty flash your rom or did you make a clean install? also, after you installed aokp, did you restore system apps with titanium backup? and, have you tried a third party phone app?

I did a clean install and manually installed all of my apps again. I managed to fix it by dirty flashing the 4.2 version of AOKP. However; my phone still has that random reboot issue. The thing that's odd is, when it comes back online it loses it's settings. So I'll have to setup Google Wallet and Google Voice again. My keyboard goes back to the default AOSP one.
I think I might just RMA this phone and start over. I do love it, and the negatives don't outweigh the positives.
rma? dont.
wipe that thing clean with a factory reset. all your problems will be gone. then, if you like, start trying out roms again.
but bugging lg and nexus because you trashed your phone, thats not so cool. i can kinda understand samsung tries hard to lock their bootloaders sometimes.

theres a batch file inside, make sure fastboot is around and click it (you must be in fastboot mode aswell). in a couple of seconds youre back to stock.

Um... I had the problem on stock 4.2 as well, factory from Google themselves. It rebooted at random for no reason. I have wiped everything... multiple times. It's still doing it.
same thing happened to me this whole week. I have been flashing custom ROM custom this whole week. People have been texting saying my phone dont work. I called in to re-fresh with TMobile network and still the same thing. I also got a new micro sim card still the same. i have to revert back to stock with root in order for the phone calls to work. i have been searching for a fix.

I thought it was the MicroSIM too - I got a brand new one with them, but nope - it's been all strange. Do you have 4.2 Stock rooted anywhere? I can only seem to find 4.2.1. I just wiped everything, restored factory etc etc and threw stock 4.2.1 on here, got the reboot issue. Phone has been working lately finally. I had to dirty flash AOKP 4.2.1 build-1 over build-2.

I tried to get a new gapps in case the download was bad. I'm just going to RMA it. I'm on 4.2.0 stock, unrooted with default everything and it's still acting up. Phone.apk works now; which is lovely, but it reboots at random and Music stops working after 3 minutes.

[RESOLVED] Booting goes to black screen!

Okay, so I was listening to a YouTube video via Popup Browser BETA. When the song finished, I tried closing the window, but it wouldn't let me interact with the window. Not sure why. I just figured since the app was in beta it was just confused, so I went to the settings->running applications->I force closed the app. But for some reason, the little window still wouldn't go away. So I decided to reboot my device. Bad idea, apparently...
Now whenever I boot up my phone it'll vibrate, display the Google logo for a few seconds, and then... it goes to a blank black screen. Not a clue why. I've tried:
- Leaving it to charge and rebooting
- Leaving it in the blank black screen
- Booting into recovery, then trying to reboot the device from there
- Clearing cache partition
Nothing works. I still can't boot up my phone again.
I'm running Slimbean 4.2.1 (not the latest version). There really isn't anything that might have triggered this. I can still charge my phone (the charging animation still occurs) and I can still go into CWM Recovery. I'd really rather not have to install a new ROM or anything... but if I have to, is there a way to extract the data I have on my phone now while in recovery or something?
Any suggestions?
EDIT: This has been FIXED. Moderators, if you see this, you can close this thread. If anyone else has this problem, try reflashing your current version of your ROM, that's how I fixed mine. I'm not responsible for damage to your device.

No way of corrupting your data, as long as you don't select to wipe data partition or data is already corrupted. But this is strange that your phone gone crazy like this. Try to reflash your rom without wiping data and see if your phone will boot up

I've not got enough free space on my phone I don't think (it's only 16GB, I got about 2GB free).
Unless I'm mistaken the backup will take more than that, yes? Considering I've got a few games apps that probably equate to about 4GB.

Reflash the same version you were running before this accident, as the newest version requires clean flash. If you want to run the latest version and have your data back, reflash the same version you were running before, then backup your data, wipe phone, flash the latest version and restore your data

WOO! Thanks a lot! Booted up perfectly, and no loss of data or anything like that. Only odd things is it seems to have changed my DPI... but I can change that easily so it's not really a bother. It also made me have to update the Virus Definitions on Avast!, not sure why either.

Are you rooted? If so and you have a custom recovery, I would do the factory reset via the recovery, that way you should still have your apps. If not, then you will lose everything and have to start from scratch.
Could be due to one of two things or a combination of things. One is a hardware issue, which I hope isn't the case. I would check the apps first before resetting, then do the reset. If it continues, try re-flashing the stock image. If after that and you're still having problems, going to 4.4, or 4.3 since it started with 4.4.

Deadliest bootloop ever. Nothing seems to fix it.

I recently fixed an infamous bootloop i had by letting the battery die 100% (yeah I know it is bad), and then it booted. Well i went to flash a new rom and it never rebooted. I then went to flash stock from google. Still a bootloop. tried like 3 roms, still a loop. I then tried the killing my battery thing. Still a loop. Please, i know the phone isn't hard bricked, is there anything else i can do to boot it other than just flashing stock and factory resetting. Thanks.
Another thing, when i try to flash 4.2.2 the phone doesn't go to the boot logo.
Anybody? I need to fix this phone soon.

None of the flashes failed. I have tried redownloading and i have also checked the md5's, so i dont think that would be it. I have also tried reformatting through twrp, and then flashing stock. Still nothing.
flashing 4.4.4 separately got me on the starting apps step, but that seems to be the place where it gets stuck.
I need to decide if i wanna take another month trying to fix the nexus 4 or just get the nexus 5. Nothing is working and i think i should just leave it now. there's must be a way cause you can boot on 4.4.4 but unfortunately i'm not that good in these kind of problems
but i hope you can find the cure soon
You can obviously get into flashboot, have you tried booting the latest twrp, wiping /system /data /cache and sideloading something different, like Paranoid Android?
Bootloop fix
First thing is that you have use Wug's Tool and flash the 4.3 stock image. In the Wug's tool select the option 'SOFT BRICK or BOOTLOOP' option and then flash the stock image in the fastboot mode. Definitely, I hope the phone will launch without any problem. The same problem I had faced with my nexus 4 and I flash the 4.3 stock image with the help of Wug's tool. Try it I hope it will fix the problem.
