Hey...if anyone know is there any way to perform complete wipe on the root "/" filesystem so after this i could flash a clean official rom with update.app....after 200+ flashes i think there will be some "data" from other roms....
Thanks!

When a thread's instruction to install a custom ROM or a very complicated hack/plugin and says do a "complete wipe first" or "make a nandroid". What exactly do they mean?
Please correct me if I'm wrong--
Complete Wipe is when we delete the following prior to flashing something:
/data
/cache
/system
/dalvik cache
And making a nandroid is making a backup of your complete setup via CWM's "Backup and Restore" option, right?
Can someone please clarify this?
LOL
You're not alone, lady
I was seeing so many nandroid and have no clue what it is but base on my own definition, it is Nook Android, meaning the stock ROM, meaning, make a backup of the original stock ROM.
That's how I understand.
Complete wipe? I only wipe /cache and /Davik cache and factory reset (sometimes)
That's all.
Nandroid is a complete 1:1 backup of whatever rom, apps, and data that are on your nook.

A complete backup would include /data,/system,/cache, and /dalvic cache. Sometimes folks also do a factory reset
A nandroid backup is done using clockwork to backup your current Rom as well as your files and settings so you can restore to a working system if something goes wrong.

Does Factory Wipe and Flashing the ROM with Stock ROM, COMPLETELY clear all previous contents inside the ROM?
Or does one also have to FORMAT the System Partition from the Recovery to ensure everything is GONE?
Or Would this be redundant?

Hello people. Just wanted to ask how is the right way to wipe when flashing a rom WITHOUT losing the rom (wiping internal)? In CWM i just factory / reset data then thats it then clear cache and dalvik cache. In TWRP do i just need to swipe when the screen says "Most of the time this is the time that you need" when i will flash rom? Thanks for guiding!
anyone?
1. factory reset
2. advance, wipe system
thats all for me, works everytime... just make sure to wipe cache/dalvik after flashing zip files be it roms or gapps or whatever :good:
The default "most of the time" option is a fresh reset of the phone. it wont wipe the ROM itself, but all the data will be lost and you start over. Wiping system will remove everything, a ROM must be flashed after wiping system.
So before i flash a rom i wipe the "most of the time" then advanced format system? right?

true that... sorry for misleading initially, format system only applicable if you wanna have clean install of new rom

No need to use format system unless you are installing a fresh ROM. Format system will remove everything from your device (other than sdcard info and all that). So you get a clean slate.
If you just want to flash an update to the same ROM you can either 'dirty flash', which I usually just wipe cahce/dalvik then flash the ROM and reboot, and you save all your user modified things, or you can wipe system and install the ROM. You lose everything that way so make backups.
Usually there isnt much need to factory reset unless you're having an issue with something. What is it you're trying to do?
I wanted to flash a stock based rom. Thank you.
What is the easiest way to wipe system partition and keep stock ROM?
Factory reset

If you wipe the system partition it will wipe the rom (operating system) from your phone. Like @a602820922 said, the easiest way to wipe everything but the system partition is a factory reset. If something in the system partition has been overwritten then you'll have to reflash your stock rom to undo any changes made.
So I've seen with installing custom ROMs that there are steps that basically say, "Do not wipe system" in TWRP. I have noticed in doing things the dumb way that I can wipe every partition but the only way it becomes unrecoverable is if system is wiped, this is even if I install a custom ROM in its place. Can someone help me understand what has changed with A/B partition or OnePlus security settings where OOS system partition must be intact to allow one to run a custom ROM?
The reason I ask is that unless it is a byte for byte overwrite then we leave OOS files on parts of the custom ROM storage partition and if it is bit for bit write why would erasing the partition matter?
What seems more important for custom ROM is to not wipe data before rebooting in TWRP to flash magisk. So a clean flash is now flashing the ROM, flashing TWRP then reboot in TWRP and then only wiping data and art. Then flashing magisk. This is important to keep decryption working. That means not using factory reset feature either, always wiping with manually selected partitions.
Anyway wiping system is useless as the flashing script wipes it anyway.
