Hello people. Just wanted to ask how is the right way to wipe when flashing a rom WITHOUT losing the rom (wiping internal)? In CWM i just factory / reset data then thats it then clear cache and dalvik cache. In TWRP do i just need to swipe when the screen says "Most of the time this is the time that you need" when i will flash rom? Thanks for guiding!

thats all for me, works everytime... just make sure to wipe cache/dalvik after flashing zip files be it roms or gapps or whatever :good:
The default "most of the time" option is a fresh reset of the phone. it wont wipe the ROM itself, but all the data will be lost and you start over. Wiping system will remove everything, a ROM must be flashed after wiping system.
So before i flash a rom i wipe the "most of the time" then advanced format system? right?

No need to use format system unless you are installing a fresh ROM. Format system will remove everything from your device (other than sdcard info and all that). So you get a clean slate.
If you just want to flash an update to the same ROM you can either 'dirty flash', which I usually just wipe cahce/dalvik then flash the ROM and reboot, and you save all your user modified things, or you can wipe system and install the ROM. You lose everything that way so make backups.
Usually there isnt much need to factory reset unless you're having an issue with something. What is it you're trying to do?

I have an HD2 with MAGLDR and CWM. Now i want to update my Hyperdroid ROM because of some issues. The Last Time i did this, all my previous installed apps, sms and contacts are still there.
How can i make a complete clean installation of all this?

I sugest to flash "daf.exe" application to recreate boot. And OFC from cwm partition/format SD if you want clean installation.
If you have problem with some roms, put task29 and fix permition

flashing from zip overwrites the boot and system partition, and 'wipe data/factory reset' wipes sd-ext, cache, data and clears the .android folders on the fat32 partition, so unless you want to change the partition size, there is no extra benefit in reflashing cwm (which is what "flash daf.exe" means, for anyone that has only used the flashing tool) and as for task29,,, well i've always considered that to be superfluous except in times where things are genuinely wrong, and indeed doing a full "task29, cwm, rom flash" every time (some people even consider re-flashing hspl, the radio and magldr a 'clean' install ) hugely increase the load on the nand blocks, and considering the number of 'bad block' threads that have been coming up the last 6 months, keeping the number of writes,wipes and rewrites low has got to be top priority.
(course, just my thoughts, I'm no electronics engineer or dev )
I need a 100% fresh start but a factory reset or flashing a new rom doesn't get rid of the system folder so busybox is e.g. always installed.

If that way u wanna do then u can flash a stock firmware and after that u reset the device from phone and start from rooting again

Could you use the recovery ? use the recovery to wipe data may be the fastest way

Yeah but when I use the wipe function in the recovery or from settings agter the wipe it stilll says e.g. that busybox is installed.
I use CWM recovery to wipe cache, dalvic cache, system partition, data partition and preload partition, then is 100% clean
1st run triangle away v3.00 then reflash the stock firmware using Mobile ODIN, the paid version, and just tick "wipe cache/data" and "wipe dalvik cache". If you don't want root then untick the everroot options and you now have a stock phone.

Sorry, Should of mentioned it will wipe EVERYTHING from internal storage. If you want to keep anything best to back up to PC...
Alright guys I feel very nooby asking this but this is my first device that doesn't have a sd slot. Is there a way to flash a Rom without deleting the download and titanium folders?
My steps prior to flashing are
Wipe data, cache, n dalvik
Flash Rom
Then wipe cache n dalvik again
But if I wipe data then the Rom zip would be deleted before I can flash it?
Please help me on this thanks!

Hi,
Make only wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache, tat's all then flash your rom and reboot.
Don't wipe anything related to sd card/ext sd card or internal storage so you keep all your files in your "sd card" intact.

This won't happen on your LG G2. Even when using CWM you can see it is looking for an external SD card in the command line when doing a Factory Reset. You're internal SD card is never touched.
When you flash a ROM just:
Factory Reset
Flash Rom
Obviously make a backup first if you're worried, and you may need to flash Gapps depending on the ROM you flash.

So I am new into android and flashing. I performed now happily flashing 10 flashes, using sammobile stocks and custom roms, using odin and philwiz.
I did several hard formats, cleared cache, wiped data through recovery, but I noticed something...
Data is not really deleted.
When I flash for example custom rom, I firstly do factory reset, then clear cache and wipe data, but after flashing custom rom, there are still remaining folders from previous rom
How come, why? How to completely remove this.

You mean folders on your internal storage? You should delete them manually.
Or do you mean that there are still folders left on the /system partition? Then you are not wiping properly. A factory reset = wipe cache, wipe dalvik and wipe data. A full wipe also includes the /system partition.

Wiping with custom recoverys won't delete folders and stuff.
Go to settings -factory reset.
When you want to be sure that really EVERYTHING is deleted you have to burn your device ^^

actually I'm using a SGS4 I9505 with cm-12-20150304-NIGHTLY-jfltexx and CWM 6.0.5.1.
I've tried to flash several TW Lollipop firmware wich i found in the I9505 forum:
1. Kushan+Touchwiz+Lollipop+Lite+Rom+v.1.2
2. S4_Echoev42_EchoePop2_020315
3. OA7-2.1F
4. XXUHA07-v2.01
Before flashing any oft this firmwares i made a factory reset, wiped both caches and installed the modem Firmware via Odin.
After flashing firmware # 1 and 2 my phone was stuc in a bootloop (only Samsung Galaxy S4 Logo appears).
Flashing firmware #3 and 4 fails and cwm reports error 7.
Flashing cm12 afterwards isn't a problem and runs fine.
I think the wipe fails or doesn't work properly. Is it enougth to select factory reset in cwm and wipe the dalvik cache manualy?
What can I do?

I switched to Philz Recovery and flashed S4 Echoe Rom v42 without any Problems.
CWM seems to have a problem to falsh TW Lollipop images ower an existing CM12 an the I9505.

As I wrote above I did a factory reset before flashing and wiped the caches with cwm. If that is not enougth it would be nice to explain what else I have to wipe or post a link.
While using philz recovery the factory reset for clean system is enougth and the new System is working fine.
Factory wipe is not full wipe, you need to do a full wipe as in format to install new rom, phillz recovery has this feature can't remember exactly where, I think its under advanced.
Just have a look in the sub menus.
Just to explain it better when you do a full wipe it deletes every part of the existing
Rom including the system, data and cache and some other stuff completely removing the android operating system, so unless the rom you install does a wipe before install parts of the existing system will remain and can cause boot issues. For example as you've already discovered you are trying to install a tw rom over an existing cyanogenmod 12 installation which Will cause it to hang on boot.

Do you mean a factory reset from within Android itself? If so, then that's a complete obsolete step. When before flashing a rom you should perform a factory reset, then they always mean a full wipe from the recovery. You need to do a full wipe from the recovery. That means the /system partition is being wiped. You will see it in the screen during the wipe if it wipes /system.
But it also could have been a problem of CWM. I don't think it is being updated anymore, so better use TWRP or Philz.
