I like many followed the instructions on the Leaked 2.2 to install Froyo.
I performing the rooted instructions requiring me to upgrade to Baseband version and verify that it's 2.05.00.06.11. This went fine and I successfully installed 2.2.
I noticed that I was having real connectivity issues. My bars would drop and connection would seem to cease. I often went from 3g to 1x connectivity and my apps could not connect without a reboot.
I reverted back to 2.1 but it kept the same baseband version 2.05.00.06.11.
I am still having the same connectivity issues.
So far I have seen people suggest dialing *288 to update the towers but that didnt work.
Other say toggling airplane mode fixed it for them. This is not a consistent fix for me.
Please add information here so we can try and find a fix.
I updated mine to the leaked 2.2 yesterday and I did lose my 3G for a few hours. I started to troubleshoot afterwards and toggling airplane mode would restore my 3g connectivity. I haven't noticed anything else that is troublesome so far, however, I am also missing some apps in the market.

There is a fix for the market problem -
I am trying to keep this thread about the connectivity issues. I suspect the firmware update did something bad. I am not running any roms or updates.
I'll have to try toggling airplane mode, I haven't tried that.
Yeah, I'm having issues too, also video recording has stopped working.

Not real sure if this is the same problem or not, but i'll post it here and we'll see. My phone seemed to have ZERO issues yesterday after the move to 2.2. Everything was working great (related to connections)
This morning, my alarm (on the phone) went off at 6:15am and I swiped it and got up, went and took a shower. While I was coming out I heard "Droid..." and was like, well that sux, a random reboot. A couple minutes later I came over to it and it was on the lock screen and the screen was dim like it was about to turn back off. I touched it to swipe and it was locked up and rebooted a second or so later.
Each time it came up, I had an X next to my signal meter and no WIFI or Data indicators. The process "system" kept dying and eventually causing the phone to reboot. I tried going into airplane mode / coming back out, but nothing.
As a last resort (so I could go to work) was to shut it down gracefully (reboots wouldn't let me get to hboot). And go and do a nandroid of the current setup and restore to yesterday right after I switched to 2.2.
After the nandroid finished I went ahead and rebooted it w/o a restore. This time the phone booted normally, no FC's and it's been running since then w/o any connection/reboot issues.
Obviously I'll be paying attention to this. It is actually nice having the "Droid..." so I know when it reboots

I havent had issue with the system process dying and rebooting. Just the incredibly annoying fluctuations in the bars and connectivity.
I would go to use my gTalk or gMail and it would say no internet connection. Or if you open the browser. Same thing.

No data
I updated the radio as well as the leaked 2.2 ROM. I now can't get any data. It will say there is a 3G connection but the market, Gmail, browser won't work. I was previously able to get data I haven't changed anything since.
I thought my data issue was using the Hybrid Altell/VZW prl, but after a *228 option 2 I am still having an issue. It seems to be when I shutdown the phone, turn it back on, the mobile data connection will not turn on. Toggling airplane mode will fix it, or sometimes a reboot fixes it.
Also having 3g/1x/no data issues post update to 2.2
Upgraded 8PM last night, all good until about 10am this morning, realized none of my apps were sync'd, then tried to use Opera/Market/Etc. all saying connectivity issues. The airplane mode on/off seems to fix it, wondering if its a select few and we should reflash or people are experiencing this across the board...

I had nearly the exact same thing happen to me. Flashed last night and then noticed the problem early today. A reboot of my phone fixed things; I'll continue to watch things closely.
Just got this for the first time as well.
I was just doing some configuration and needed to reboot - after doing so I did not have 3G and mobile network was ON in the settings.
Toggled to airplane mode and restarded - switched back after startup and 3G is back... but still this is troubling (I don't want there to be ANY problems haha)
All my Issues fixed with link @ bottom, thanks adrynalyne!

I am trying SkyRaiders rom to see if theres any improvements. I am on WiFi and its been working good so far. I will know more tomorrow.
Are you just getting the slow downs/disconnects on cell or also on WiFi? I had some weird WiFi issues last night so I thought it was both. Are you all getting it on all data connections or just the mobile network?
Make sure System Select in Mobile Network settings is on Home Only. I did this and I've had zero data connectivity issues with the leak. Had them when it was on Automatic.
Try it out.
I will join in and say I am also loosing 3G...it would be fine for a little then disappear for a while...toggling wifi and airplane mode helps, but I want it fixed and not have to rely on those.
Seems that Sky Raiders Rom has fixed the issues for me.

Which version? I am using 2.00 and I am having 3G connectivity issues. When I set my mobile networks from automatic to home, I only connect at 1X instead of 3G.
Is this fixed in Sky Raider 2.01?
UPDATE: I should have stated my original problem which was my 3G data connection was shutting down at random and the only way to get it back was to go in and out of airplane mode. I also JUST NOW updated to Sky Raider 2.01 and see that I don't have and data connection at present. A reboot did not work either. I'll keep trying things...
UPDATE2: Got it working...for some reason it was turned off in settings. Appears to be working fine now. I haven't seen any disconnects yet. Fingers crossed...
UPDATE3: It started doing it again under Sky Raider version 2.01. Don't know whether it's the new v2 radio or something with Froyo...

It is beginning to look like maybe this is a radio (2.05.00.06.11) problem an not a OS issue. But what I don't understand is why more people have not complained. I do live in a fringe signal area for 3G, perhaps that has something to do with triggering this problem. But I too have found that toggling airplane mode isn't a consistent fix.
If this is indeed a radio issue, then we may have to just live with it until a new radio version is released. Perhaps it would help if more people came forward and shared their experiences about this alleged problem. If it is only a few of us, then what might we have in common???

See here, 99% sure has to do with WiFi. I've been turning off WiFi before I leave the WiFi area I'm connected to and I've yet to loose data connectivity.
If this is all there is, I have a fully working 2.2 on my DInc now...don't really see a reason to upgrade to the official!

This is a strange one. I have been using Fresh Evo 3.2.0.0 rom for almost a month and it works great. I wanted to try another rom so I tried the VirusRom... it was good but I liked Fresh better. So reflashed my Nandroid image and all was well.
But then I started seeing a lot of failed connections to the market and noticed that my 3G was not connecting. I live in Chicago so I am fully covered by 3G in this area, and even 4G in many spots. Usually when I leave a wifi area, the phone switches back to 3G almost instantly. But ever since nandroiding back to the Fresh Evo 3.2.0.0 rom, it only works after a reboot. As soon as I hit a wifi zone and then lose it, 3G doesn't switch back on.
4G and Wifi both work, but if I disable both wifi and 4g.. 3g doesn't come back without a reboot.
I've even switched off the Mobile network using the widget and the power button menu.. no luck. Only a reboot brings it back.
So then I even did the trick to get my PRI up to 1.40 and that worked fine. But no change in the behavior of 3G. When I reboot and 3G is working, it works great as usual. Just not sure why the switching no longer works. I even tried switching back to the rooted sprint stock rom.. same deal.
Anyone else having any issues?

yes, I have noticed this at times. Just happened to me. Failed connection when switching off 4g to 3g. Using fresh 3.2. But I noticed this as well on other roms. I had to reboot each time to get 3g working again. I also reset my data connection last night but it obviously didnt work.
I've been having issues with my 3G for the past two days. Similar story, I did and Nand restore and that is when it started.
I am getting an error code 67 everytime I switch from Wifi, 4G or even when I reboot to try and fix this. Usually if I let it sit it will come back, but the error message popping up is quite annoying.
Wish I had something more helpful to say, but I can just add that I'm having the same problems switching from wifi to 3g. Even after 3g turns on it will sometimes turn off again randomly and I will have no connection. I'm also running fresh. In addition my 3g signals are quite week. kinda a mess...
Weird. My phone did this today for the first time. The thing is, I've been on Fresh 3.2 for a month now, and I flashed the latest Baked Snack rom yesterday to test it out. It never did it while I was on Fresh, but today after turning off WiFi, it wouldn't connect to 3G for anything. No text or data transfer at all. After I rebooted it, it started working again, but my phone never did this while I was on Fresh.
I am having the same problem and I am using Fresh 3.2 as well. I did go to a different rom but then went back to Fresh's rom and that is when it starting happening to me. It will only pick up 3g now and then and even when it does my speed is super slow. Hoping someone comes up with a fix as I made my own post but no one seems to feel the need to reply to it.
Theories...
Same here. I'm on Baked Snack 1.7x
I know Fresh and Hero both use some of the same components. I flashed to Cyano and have had no problems with the 3G radio. It's very snappy switching on and off after wifi connects and disconnects.
I do know there have been one or two issues with the radio with people who are on the 3.28.651.x roms. (for instance, if you enable 4G then disable, sometimes it randomly turns off and on without you knowing until you restart)
So my guess is maybe the 3.28.651.x series is glitchy. You guys want to try going back to 3.26.651.6 and do some testing?
happened to me on stock. Had to reboot the phone to fix it.
This seems to be working for me today with no problems so far. I am wondering if a tower was down with Sprint putting up the 4g around my city. Will keep posted if it happens again but seems to be running like normal now.
This has to be network issues maybe the latest PRL.
Mine has did the same last couple days also on power on , it takes longer for 3G icon to kick in.
Signal flux has been occurring more then norm fast download - Upload speeds taking hit some parts of the day.

I am on 3.26.651.6 build and this was happening. I am no longer having any problems with this. I do feel this might have been a problem Sprint's servers were having. Seems like everyone started having the problem right around the same time.
It must be... Going to an older PRL didn't help, and there are a bunch of forum topics being created about this on other forums as well. Guess it's time to play the waiting game.
My issue is so bad right now even if I restart my phone, it doesn't even get data connection right away. 10 minutes waiting now and error code 67's keep popping up.
This just happened to me today. It took me awhile to connect the error statement to the fact the 3g didn't turn on after I turned off wifi. But I was able to press the 'data connection' button on the switchpro widget to turn 3g back on.

That is how I got it working a little bit last evening but as I said in my last statement it is finally working and has been all day. Not sure what the deal actually was as I did not change anything since 2 evenings ago. I am thinking that Sprint is doing something which is messing everyone up at one point or another.
So my girlfriend's Nexus S has been losing the entire voice and data network and going into no service mode, no biggie at first, just cycle airplane mode, then it went on to rebooting because you would select airplane mode from the power off menu but it would not check the box in the wireless settings menu.
After the reboot the box would show checked and airplane mode could be disabled and the service would resume. The the phone started getting stuck in airplane mode and not even rebooting it would bring it out the first few times, then it got to the point of resetting the phone, a wipe cache/data reset didn't fixed it. So off to T-Mobile for a new sim card. Rebooted the network immediately. And as of last night its back in full force and now not even a new sim will resurrect the network.
Have tried wiping, reflashing stock 2.3.3, new sim again, multiple resets, had to get an toggle widget to get it out of airplane mode and still a dead network, all this time the network in the *#*#4636#*#* menu showing unknown and is not able to be changed and reverts back to unknown immediately, OEM specifics settings button is greyed out and you are not able to disable the radio either.
While I'm going to call Samsung on Monday and I guess send the phone off, I worry about mine because it too does it but only once a month or so, but I do constantly have issues resurrecting the phone from airplane mode at times because the box will not be checked in the wireless settings menu but I can see the airplane instead of network bars, problem persists with reboots sometimes.
I also would like to add that even when the box is not checked in the wireless settings menu for airplane mode, if you click it it just hangs forever and will try to select but never will and stays grey like its turning everything off, but if the scren goes off its like you never tried.
Has anyone else seen this? I have seen a lot of people with data network issues or having to reboot to get voice network back but nothing as bad as I'm experiencing.
Both our phones are and have been completely stock and unmodified.
Thankfully we still have her Vibrant and in case I need to send mine in my Nexus One.

Have you tried restoring from another persons' pre-made nandroid backup?
This over-writes the radio firmware, you should give it a go!
I also found that I had problems on 2.3.3, however reverting to 2.3.2 gave me no problems!
Just contact me if you need any help restoring from a nandroid backup or finding the 2.3.2 backup files

Is that true? I am just on the verge of calling samsung. My phone won't connect to or display any available networks, and is pretty much now dumbed down to a small tablet. I've tried everything except another persons nandroid backup. I've been told to stay away from flashing another persons... but I'm really desperate.
If you could provide me with a backup, that would be awesome.
I'm having identical problem.
It was working fine yesterday, look back to it and now it's got no mobile network, nothing. Just the no bars and cross symbol. I've tried wiping dalvik cache, reflashing the radio, wiping data/factory reset, reflashing the rom, restoring with a backup (Backup of when I first rooted the phone) and still no signal. Nothing has worked..
Anyone got ideas on how to fix this issue?

Can you search for and view available networks?
This sounds like the CM7 powerwidget problem (3g/2g) I used it and I loss all network, phone process will crash every second, however if your phones are stock I can't think in anything causing it.
For CM7 you'll have to reflash and delete userdata or edit the sql database for the providers and change a value to 0, but you need root.
When I went to *#*4636.... my preferred service was "unknown" too, but now it is OK.
Try to dail:
*#*#4636#*#*
and find your network information.

Nope. Sits their 'searching' but nothing shows up.
In, *#*#4636#*#*, it gives little to no information. Just says nothing for current network and for GSM disconnects it has,
Sate: DvInactiveState
disconnected with last try
at 9:59AM
fail because No Error
And that time never changes, stays at 9:59AM.
As my above post suggested, I've tried doing a factory reset and reflashing. I don't think I use CM.. I flashed with Oxygen 2.1.6 (using it's kernel) but I restored to Oxygen rom and trinity kernel after it didn't work.

Ok, it'd be great if you worked something out. I'm so glad i'm not the only person with this issue!
Anyone had any breakthroughs? *hopeful*
I wouldn't call it a breakthrough but I got somewhere!
Ended up putting a extremely thin piece of wire into the external antenna port at the back of the phone. Wasn't too keen on doing this, but my phone now has reception isn't stuck at the dreaded -113dbm.
The reception isn't good, but it's enough to send texts and have calls.
Although the area needs quite good reception for me to receive anything, and it's extremely sensitive. To get 3 bars in a place where I usually get full bars, I have to be outside. While inside it's reduced to none or 1 bar, which is enough to send/receive texts and a sort of lagging phone call (did a few tests). As mentioned before extremely sensitive. The phone seems to like it better when it's up-right. In the middle of the CBD at Brisbane I get full reception and 3G, which is fine but in the places where you usually get 2 bars, you get no signal at all, unless you're outside.
So this is hardly a fix. I will most likely be sending it to Samsung to get it actually fixed. Either that or get it fixed the same day and pay probably close to $100 so I don't have to wait 2 months waiting for Samsung to twiddle their thumbs.
Thats awesome! But I'm going to post mine off to Samsung USA tomorrow, which will take forever considering international shipping. Where could you get it fixed same-day? I'm going to try this wire thing
So it can't be a software issue, but maybe the rom overloaded the antenna and fried it or something? I'm glad we've got that far.

Its more serious than that my friend! Thanks anyway
I got a quote from a place in Brissy called "FixMyMobile" and they said if they can fix it, it will cost $99. Although I'll get quotes from different places (if I find them) and see what they charge however I don't think I will be able to get cheaper, most likely around the same price..
So I may do that to not wait the ridiculous time it will take to get it back from Samsung.. Not sure on places in NZ though.
Yeah it seems like a hardware issue definitely. I eventually reverted the phone back to stock everything and it still happened, so that there shouts hardware issue.
Hey all
I recently got my contract phone upgrade and got myself the motorola defy
The first phone I received, as soon as it would connect to 3G or Hsdpa it would reboot, forcing it into 2G helped but didn't solve the issue, it would still reboot without reason
So I sent it back
The second phone I received and currently using, has been mostly ok, except when you put the phone into airplane mode and then take it out, the phone tries to connect to the network, it connects for a few moments and then drops, it then does that a few times and then the phone reboots
Forcing it into 2G mode when it's in this loop fixes this, it connects fine and then I can put it back to automatic and it connects to 3G fine
Is this software issue with the phone? Or some odd conflict with my provider?
My phone is currently running stock 2.1 Rom, if that helps at all
Hi
Had a similar issue with the first Defy Plus I got. I sent it back. Have seen some similar threads about this but no solution, sorry. I am awaiting replacement number three after the second one had a faulty touch screen.
Regards

Could be hardware related. I think that the initialisation of the 3g module is not working as it should. Maybe the power management of the 3g module is broken? If you did not installed any custom firmwares or modded the stock one I would give it back and ask for a new one.

Mmm... I think I will restore to factory default, if it still does it then I guess I should take it back, really annoying, for such an awesome phone, it sure does have a lot of issues
And it will be another week and a half wait for it again :/

Well doing a full factory default achieved nothing

HI ALL, Im pretty new here. after so many tries finally i was able to install cm7.1 on my defy. but im facing some issues. before the installation i forgot to take a back up of the existing ROM so if i have to go back to the previous ROM how to do that? and also there is no network coverage after the installation. please please anybody help!!!!!!
Have a vibrant myself but I'm helping a buddy get cm7 on his defy and after flashing didn't have a network signal. I looked at the cm7 install guide and it referenced a defy base band switcher app for better coverage. Had him try that and he got his data connection back. Might want to look into it or read the guide.

If your previous ROM was stock that came with your phone, flash the corresponding SBF file from the sticky on the Dev section to go back to stock. If it was some other custom ROM, wipe data/factory reset in CWM and flash the old ROM. Make backup of your apps using Titanium Backup if you want.
For CM7 network issues, choose the correct baseband from Defy Baseband Switcher. For India, pick anything that is 900/2100MHz...
Also, make sure you have read as many guides and First Posts on important threads as you can. Here is a collection of good threads you can read for these questions, and more that you might get later:

Hello! Noob here as well.
I installed CM7.1 stable on my Defy (running 2.2.2 foryo) 2 days ago.
All went well, except that network connection is lost after a couple of minutes after boot. Sometimes it takes an hour or two but I still end up with no connection.
I've googled everything about it in the last days. I played with the Baseband Switcher and although most options in the BB Switcher work right after a reboot, it still looses the signal after a couple of minutes.
One thing I noticed, when the signal is lost, trying to set the "Airplane mode" will fail. If trying to set Airplane ON - the notification icon will not replace the signal icon and will also be unable to set Airplane OFF (since it didn't finish turning ON).
I also noticed that if I force stop the "Dialer" system app, then the Airplane notification ico shows up, but still there's no way to turn it OFF (it's disabled in the menu). After a reboot Airplane can be set OFF and everything works for another small period of time (..until baseband crashes again?).
Hope it makes some sense. I'm quite sure this is not an operator issue or hardware related, since my Defy worked just fine before CM7.1
Also, I am located in Romania, operator is Orange.

I have the same issue, except that it is much rarer (ranging from every other day, to even a month between such incidents). It can also be triggered sometimes when I turn off Wi-Fi and the device tries to regain mobile data connection (not sure if it matters, but I set the network mode to 2G on my phone). The battery drain is increased if this occurs without the user noticing - the phone seems to search in vain for the signal.
Using the latest SEA baseband on M1 (Singapore).

I get this problem too. Happens every so often when I'm at work. I've always put it down to a bad signal where I work but as I always turn the wifi of before leaving home it could be down to that. If anyone has any solutions it would be great
Ok, a little update on this:
At the office now, further playing with the Baseband Switcher, I ended up selecting "Italia RT 2.51.1" which has the same 900/2100 freq that my operator requires and it seems to work. Even getting 3G.
If "2.51.1" is some sort of protocol version, then all the other options I've tried were either 4.x or 3.x or even 2.21.x ..and none of them worked for more then 30 minutes.
Also, not sure if signal strength has something to do with this because I did a test, going to the basement of my office in order to loose signal, then back up and it worked - got the signal back, without reboot or anything.
Also, I would really appreciate if someone could explain in a few words what those version numbers mean (ex: "Italia RT 2.51.1"), as I know nothing about gsm bands and protocols.
UPDATE: Back home, lost signal again, after a whole day without any problems. Funny.
UPDATE 2:
So after much google searching and trying literally every option in the Baseband Switcher, I switched my SIM card with a friend's SIM and guess what.. IT WORKED! Even more, when I inserted my original SIM into the other phone after a few minutes it lost signal, too! It was a faulty SIM, that has just started to "die".
Conclusion:
- Keep playing with that Baseband Switcher until you get something that works for you.
-Make sure your SIM is working properly in other phones, otherwise ask your operator to replace it.
Thanks and hope this helps.
ZeDevil did you try using other Basebands to see if you get better battery life ?

Not really. As long as you have a working Baseband selected (with correct frequencies) I don't think it matters.
But overall CM7.1 has better battery efficiency then stock ROMs, or at least that's what I felt.
update:
Well, I had a play with the baseband switcher, realising i was on 'international'. I switched to uk t-mobile and from there it seemed to work much better. A slight blip at work today (think it's a bit of a signal black-spot though) but restarted and it seems fine again. I've also just realised it's gone 37hrs since its last charge too
Strangely my other problem, the backlighting on the soft-keys not working, fixed itself at the same time. dunno if these two things are linked or not?
i use the CEE one.
