hello everyone,
i was wondering if i can install clockworkmod recovery on galaxy y to perform nandroid backup without replacing my stock recovery.
i dont want to replace my stck recovery as it is under warranty
i will unroot and send it to service centre but if i have permanent clockworkmod recovery they will not give me warranty privileges
Any help will be appreciated
i will press thanks for sure!!!!!!!!!!!
There is no permanat recovery cwm for sgy unless u use a custom kernel with inbuilt recovery.
Any file like skin_1980_sgy.zip / cwm_bla_bla.zip is a temporary recovery.
They do state like replacing stock recovery in their updater script but none works like that and no one with sgy has ever claimed to have got a permanant recovery with those zips.

just download cwm from anywhere nd flash it in recovery mode...
ur phone will nt get permanent cwm..

Dload temporary cwm then put it in the root of sd card
(/sdcard*HERE | Not inside any folder in sdcard)
Power Off Phone
Press Volume Up,Home Button and Power Button to go to recovery mode
(use Volume Rocker to move if u r in recovery)
Once u see galaxy y logo unpress the 3 buttons
Nao u r in recovery mode
Select install zip
Then flash the cwm file.zip
U R DONE
Hmmm
Download this and put it in ur root of SD and flash it in Stock recovery.. your done....

when i enter the recovery mode
i got into Android system recovery (2e)
then i choose apply sdcard:update.zip
then it forward me to ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5..
then i choose apply sdcard:update.zip again..
then it rebooted and back to system recovery (2e) again
what should i do to fix this ? i want to update my ROM
If your custom ROM can be flashed via cwm, go save it in your internal sd then use the install zip in sd card option in cwm.
I suggest you do a full nandroid back-up first just to be on the safe side...
thanks for reply..
i think i can't use cwm anymore to flash.. since it keeps looping between this two recovery mode.. i just flash it using odin, now i'm runnning original firmware 2.1
but i still see those two recovery mode.. how to remove one of them ?
When you get into Clockwork, don't press the "apply update.zip".
Select "install zip from sdcard" and locate your roms .zip and install it.
Read the instructions again and again until you understand it. It's obvious that you have no idea what you are doing.

If I understand your post correctly, you are having trouble getting into CWM after installing it. I had the same thing on my phone.
When going into recovery, you hold down the power button, the home button and the volume up button and release the home button when the Samsung screen appears. I tried releasing the power button when the Samsung screen appears and it goes into CWM recovery.

i have a samsung vibrant with official 2.2 and i wanted to know how i can root this version and i wanted to know how to flash a custon rom which i already knw how to do but my 3e recovery mode is not installin the update.zip file and its not leting me to boot in clockwork recovery.
Root by using Superoneclickroot 1.9. You can flash a voodoo enabled kernel to get the Red voodoo/CWM recovery or flash back to stock to apply update.zip.

When you attempt to go into recovery in CWM and you select Flash recovery if it goes to the stock recovery you should select "reininstall packages" sometimes it takes 2 or 3 times of doing this and than it will finally take and you should have CW recovery.

3e recovery doesn't allow you to flash update.zip files.
downgrade with odin to 2.1 with the proper tar file and pit file. Then when ur on 2.1 its alot easier. Put the update package on ur internal sd card and turn ur phone off. Then hold down both volume buttons then power it back on and when u see vibrant come on let go of the power button. U will then see recovery then all u have to do is reinstall package and u may have to do that once or twice but then after that u will have the green recovery and ur phone will be rooted and ready to rock with some roms.
enjoy
I have rooted my HTC Wildfire and now i need to get CyanogenMod 7 on it ...
i have downloaded Rom manager i flashed ClockworkMod Recovery mode into the phone...
But when i enter Recovery mode its just the regular Recovery screen that comes up...
I have tryied this 3 times and it still wont work (also after resetting the whole phone)
How do i get ClockworkMod Recovery mode on my phone then ?
EDIT :
I installed CM7 via ROM MANEGER and now i need to install Google Apps.
But when i go into Revolutionary CMW (Revovery mode) and try to Select "apply update from sdcard" all the text just disapers and nothing new is comming up...
What do i do ?
Flashing from rom manager will not give a permanent recovery for wildfire (when there is no custom recovery at first). But such kind of process is there for other phones.

So how to get cm7 based recovery . Cm7 needs CWM 3.x or higher recovery. The answer depends on whether u have used unrevoked or alpharev (=revolutionary) to root ur phone.
If u used unrevoked, u must be having some recovery. Here u can use rom manager to flash 3.x recovery and reboot to recovery from within rom manager to temporarily get 3.x + recovery which can flash cm7. Or u can download a 3.x + recovery.img file and use unrevoked again to flash that recovery. Here u should select the custom recovery option in unrevoked and point to ur downloaded file.
And if u have used revolutionary, there will be an option during the revolutionary process where to install custom recovery or not. U can choose to install. Or once u have s-off, fastboot flashing will be enabled. So u can flash a recovery from fastboot with the help of a PC. This is more preferrable. There are also other options. If u search the dev forums u will see posts explaining to install recovery through "pc49img" method. Also "flash_image" method. Both these wont need a pc unlike all the above methods.

Problem solved but a new one is here
I installed CM7 via ROM MANEGER and now i need to install Google Apps.
But when i go into Revolutionary CMW (Revovery mode) and try to Select "apply update from sdcard" all the text just disapers and nothing new is comming up...
What do i do ?
Choose 'Install Zip from SDCard', not 'Apply update from SDCard'
I have tryied all of them....
inclusive "power down" and not even that works its only removing the text and nothing new comes up
Use the trackball for selecting stuff in Clockworkmod. Not the Power button.
WOW FAIL BY ME !!!
Sry guys im still noob at rooting
Thank you for the help.
PROBLEM SOLVED!

Two methods ...
1st go back to stock rom through odin and flash again 7x (Delete data+chache and mount system before flashing) .
2nd lill complicated bt very helpful if ur cwm still working. hold vol+ button and home butten and turn on ur phone. if ur in custom kernel then U go directly into cwm other wise u r in stock recovery . if u r in stock recovery then go to update from sd card and go to ur temp Cwm . if u dnt hve then better option to go back to stock rom via odin. bt if U hve cwm format system + delete data & chache. then Mount system & data. flash again 7x.W8 till installation . Reboot and enjoy
P.s :- always mount syatem before installing roms, themes etc via cwm
better flash it again.
format system then wipe data in cwm
then flash it.
if doesnt work out, use odin
try waiting for 5-10 mins, first boot takes up quite some time.
if you are still stuck, maybe flash stock via odin here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465800
Guys i tried to flash the cwm file after unlocking bootloader, but still when i reboot phone it boots in cm stock recovery??????
Plz provide the stepsand link
Use the "all in one" toolkit provided in android development section. As u said u have unlocked bootloader, first choose "root" option it will send a root.zip will to your yureka....i cant remember wheter it send to internal memory or ext sd but make sure its on ext sd. After that choose "flash CWM" option. It will take 9-10 sec and your will boot in CWM. Do not restart now. First flash that root.zip file via CWM. Now when u will try to restart by choosing first option in CWM it will ask u to fix some permissions so that stock recovery dont get installed, click on yes and u r done now u have a permanent CWM.
