[Q] How to build modules? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys! My first post here although i've been watching the forums for a long time.
To the point:
I recently bought a Nexus 7 (Wi-Fi). I also own a RTL2832 based DVB usb dongle.
What I want to do is run Multiboot (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2011403) and this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1841759. In the DVB dongle thread there are built modules for the latest kernel. BUT, when i flash Multiboot kexec-hardboot-patch the last numbers of the kernel version, change so I cannot load the modules.
So, can anyone drive me to the right direction on how to build these modules?
Thanks!

In the Google search box at the top of the page (in between where it says "Devices by OS or Manufacturer" and "FIND YOUR DEVICE..."), type in the following:
NDK building kernel modules
and hit enter.

I was hoping for something more noob-friendly but I'll give it a try anyway. Thanks!

(Q) DBV-T Stick on Vega

Hye guys!
I have a little question. I have a dvb-t tv stick connected to my pc, but I would really love it to have it on my Vega. Does anyone know if that's possible? I currently run ViewComb build 6. I know that in Corvus 5, there were additional .ko files. There were also for a dvb stick, but I don't know how to handle them. Can anybody help me?
Thanks!
If you can get it to connect correctly wouldn't you also need an app to watch TV?
I tried to search on the market but couldn't find anything.
And it's DVB-T and not DBV-T!
Could be possible.
Someone got a TV Tuner working on their Nexus One, details here.
Whether it works in Honeycomb? No idea.
Good find BTaylor927!
So you need to recompile a kernel to support kernel modules?
I guess stock kernel doesn't support modules, here is a custom kernel or use Corvus5 ROM or any other ROM with custom kernel that supports modules.
And you need the modules (.ko files that are mentioned in the script).
Those kernel modules needed to be recompiled or you can use those on this site?
Then you just play that "dvr0.ts" file that the script generates with any video player that supports playing Transport Stream (MPEG-2 Video Stream) (eg. VPlayer).
I think this goes like this (basically it's like on that site).
thomskipsp report back how it went, because I don't have a DVB-T USB stick.

[Q] USB WIFI TP-WN722n $15

Hi have been trying to get a TP-WN722N to run on my i9505 rooted and cwm recovery
TP-WN722N chipset = atheros ar9271
needs ath9k_htc driver
and htc_9271.fw
has anyone got a module i can insmod?
Am new to android as of 2 days ago so am still learning how to do everything. Bricked about 3 times.
Am trying to connect this usb wifi adapter to get monitor mode and injection. for aircrack/reaver
(maxters - aircrack-suite-for-galaxy-note-2)
or a link to a newbie tutorial to build kernel source supporting ath9k drivers?
Anyway will donate $15 to anyone that can get me running (is this allowed?)
cheers
Will still donate if somebody can help
compile kernel
Am about to compile kernel from source and build modules.
Will post after if it is successful and anyone is interested?
Will try do ath9k and rtl8187 drivers.
success
Success. Had problems with compiling on ubuntu 13.04. Then couldn't insmod the compiled modules due to dependencies for the mac80211 module so I ended up just compiling wanams adam kernel with the required modules built in and bang no more problems. Copied firmware to folder.
Tp link tl-wn722n wifi adapter running in monitor mode. Aircrack and reaver working with no problems. No -1 channel issue. hasn't cause any other problems with the phones built in wifi or anythng else.
Hope someone may find this useful. Will upload when i can post links if anyone wants it. But would be better to compile yourself
P.s. i am using this for easy pentesting on networks which i have permission. Not intended for illegal purposes.
This is awesome! Great work, i would love you to update the files as i am pretty new to linux...

So you placed all of the modules and everything into a kernel and flashed it? May you please post a link in a drop box or something, to the working kernel with the modules in it?
Sorry for the huge bump

Hi there. Decided to stop lurking and finally made an account. Also, I realize this is an incredible bump, but it's the only thread I could find on the subject.
I managed to compile the latest release of the CM11 kernel (same as my S4 is running) with ath9k and mac80211 support baked in (not modular), but my AR9271 is still b0rked. It shows up in lsusb, so it's working, but not functioning. I've tried like, everything....... except giving it extra power. Did you need to do that? AFAIK it only draws about 200-300 mA at most, and the S4 is more than capable of that ._.
Does anyone know if there's something special needed to get the adapter working apart from plugging it in? I'm losing sleep D:

Wifi Crash, Media Crash, Settings "Storage" Crash
Hey guys, I'm on PA 4.6 BETA5, when I flash the aosp or franko kernel (after going back to stock kernel before flashing the new one) my Wifi won't enable, android.something.media crashes and in the settings app, when I tap storage the app crashes...any way to solve this problem or an alternative? Thanks!
PS: I'm really sorry if this was asked before, I read the hole last 10 sites of the forum and didnt found anythings related to my problem, "just" 10 sites because I think its related to 4.4.4 and maybe PA.

There are custom kernels (unleased kernel series, Hells Doctor, Hellscore, ...) which supports OTG and also supports Lolipop.
Stock Lollipop

mm okey! so, have you test Hells Doctor on Lollipop? I will try out it this afternoon. I'm running a 4.3 stock perfectly with the otg, but Lollipop look like so excited.

How does one "Simply install the zip in recovery"?
My screen is broken (just the touch; everything is still visible). I was hoping I could install this mod without being able to touch the lower half of my screen so that I could plug in a mouse so that I could copy some files off my device.
I can reboot into recovery mode, but USB debugging is *not* enabled. I've never used "adb" on this device before (I just says "offline" when I try to run it from my PC).
I have no idea how to "install a zip".
Phone is an Nexus 4, running android 4.something.
OTG on Paranoid 4.6 beta 6

also tried the other versions of the kernel, no help.
please help.
Thanks,
Is the OP willing to develop the patch for lollipop too? Or is there any nice kernel with USB host support?
nexus 4 lolipop 5.0.1 and xbox wireless gamepad
Hello. I want use xbox360 wireless gamepad on my nexus 4 lolipop 5.0.1. I think first I need kernel with OTG support. What kernel I can download on 5.0.1 android? I need y-cable for receiver of xbox360. what about mouses and keyboards they also need y-cable?
What can be the problem, why OTG still doesn't work
Hey guys,
however I'm completely new to this stuff, I managed to get through every barriers, and I put Cyanogenmod 11 snapshot M12 on my Nexus 4 and after that flashed the suggested kernel and patch successfully to try out OTG. The phone works withput problem, the installations seem to be successful, therefore I tried to connect an external storage to the phone to check if OTG works on it.
For that, I used a SIMPLE OTG cable like this:
<<<LINK CANNOT BE SHOWN SINCE I AM NEW TO THE FORUM - picture is the second picture of the first post in this thread>>>
connected to an Y-cable SIMILAR to this:
<<<NO LINK AGAIN - the 3rd picture of the first post in this thread>>>
The difference from the one on the picture is that mine has a male mini USB end instead of a female normal USB end as in the picture. My cable is the cable of an external wichester otherwise.
So, I tried with this cable setup, the result was that both the phone and the connected storage received electricity from the external power source, but the storage was not detected by the phone. I had a feeling that it doesn't get enogh power, so I attached it to a USB phone charger just to be sure, but the situation remained the same: the light on the storage was green, which means it is charging, the light on the phone was also on, but the storage was not detected.
My question is if I should try with the exact same cable set that can be found in the first post of this thread on the first picture or mine also should do the job, and there should be still some software related problem?
Please also tell me if you need more information on this to answer it, however I tried to be specific.
Thank you for your help in advance.
Hello. What i can do on lolipop? There is no solution? I have a 32gb flash drive, y-otg cable, standart power adapter micro-usb-male. Rooted nexus4
Which zip I need to download?
Hi, i'm really beggining on Android stuffs, since I didnt had one until the last week, so I'm really in doubt about which one of the zip files i need to install in my system to make the OTG cable work properly.
Once I downloaded a random ziddley zip on the internet and when I installed it in recovery mode, i needed to reinstall the android system on my phone, since the phone wont boot anymore.
So, can anyone help me? I'm sharing in this post a screenshot of the Android Version screen on the settings. I've rooted my phone using the King Root app
Considering that my android version is 4.4.4, I consider that I may download one of the following:
4.4.x: 2013.12.11 1604ET: [fk r199] [fk r199-CM]
4.4.x: 2013.12.06 1445ET: [aosp r7]
But which one?
And just another noob question. Is this the right way to install the ziddley zip on my phone?
(www).addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-install-a-rom-or-app-from-zip-file-to-android-device-from-recovery/
Sorry for the noob questions and thanks to anyone who helps, because I REALLY need the otg cable to work, so I can develop some things using the XBOX 360 cable!

Looking for the right (kinda specific) kernel. Grouper, multirom, 5.1

Hi guys.
I've searched around the boards and net for days (cause what's worse than a new member that can't use the search function?) and I'm in need of a specific kernel for my 2012 Grouper.
I'm currently running Multirom with Kali Linux Nethunter (written over Cyanogenmod 12.1) in my primary slot, and CM 12.1 in the secondary.
I'm wondering if there is a kernel out there that will fill the following needs:
5.1 Lollipop (CM12.1, Nethunter 3.0)
Kexec-hardboot
USB fast charging/power external devices (TP-Link wifi adapter)
And if possible, All F2FS (I've found nothing for 5.1 compatibility with F2FS)
If I'm stupid and overlooked something obvious, feel free to call me on it. I'm new to Modding, and I've bricked my HTC Evo 4G LTE about 30 times without running to forums to ask for help on piddly and obvious solutions. As to the "needs" on my kernel, yes... I know I want pretty much everything. Hehe.
This forum has been a tremendous help so far, and I look forward to interacting with you all.
ETA: Current kernel version "3.1.10-Bricked-v0.591-g0a2e5f6 [email protected] #2"

How to enable the UVC driver in Lineage OS 14.1

I need the OTG camera function, but don`t want to to back to stock. Would i have to recompile the kernel to enable it?
I just encountered the same issue while trying out my brand-new USB endoscope camera with a recent version of Lineage OS 14.1. I just wondered if you already tried to build a custom image?
Sharing some useful or not so useful bit of information. It seems that the custom-built kernel from Dorimanx for Android 4.4.2 had at least the driver source in place. *Edit* I'm not allowed to post Links just yet, sry! *Edit*
If nobody else is commenting, I will probably take the time to set up a Build-VM at the weekend and try building my first custom ROM. How hard can it be, right
