Worst JB any company will ever release. - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

I am using note from last 1 year. Used GB for six months then upgraded to ICS.
I am always FAN of Stock TW look.
But this time: SAMSUNG crossed limit by releasing worst, ugliest, laggy, slowest JB firmware.
When I tried JB leak in FEB. I thought that this is not ready and samsung will work on it and will clean it by little more makeup.
But bloody sammy released it as it was. I mean no cleanliness, no smoothness, no quickness.
I can feel the slow response of apps opening and closing which I never felt in ICS.
Even battery drains like HELL.
I am reverting back to ICS. I like quickness of ICS. I am not a heavy user.
I disable few apps or bloatware I don't use and ICS works awesome.
Your views.

Maybe you do not know how to make clean flash...

JB is good for me..
Battery , smoothness, stability( with latest kernels)..
<<<The CRACKS on my NOTE shows how often it KISSES the FLOOR>>>

its very smooth in my note.even app transitions are awesome but there is lag in gallery.

Agree, battery drains like hell, many lag, hot issue... i will never buy a sammy device again

JB is running better than ICS on my note. Its butter smooth and faster. Job done well samsung!

Kinda harsh language, but I must agree:
- it's slow, at least Germany stock (maybe because I did only factory reset, still Ultimate ROM is incredibly smooth)
- S Note is a joke (laggy and for the reason below)
- S Memo is missing and there's no Page widget - I looked at my Note's box, there's a neat picture of the phone there, it has 3 Memo widgets on it... WHAT THE HELL SAMMY? Why you delete a feature you advertise on box without giving any substitute?
- battery life is worse, on ICS using WiFi didn't make any significant changes to usage time, on JB WiFi drains battery like crazy
- its general appearance is bad (ugly icons, switches etc but it matters the least)
- it's just quick mashup port of Note II's/GSIII's ROM, but that's the biggest advantage of it - airview, multiwindow, ink effect and other stuff work without sweat
I'll be using Ultimate for some time, but I'll probably return to ICS, few features I like doesn't compensate for stuff I miss or hate

Bloody idiots. They miss ******* simple things.

the multitask and battery life for me makes all the difference, jb is a keeper they made touchwizz my favorite. The additional mods, with clean install and no recovery of app+data do the trick for me.
maybe you guys have rogue apps or something. Check you logcats
cm is really really awesome to, my fav vanilla flavour, but those touchwizz features wootwoot. I get same free mem after bloatware remove on touch as on cm.

Agree with this thread worst software update ever. Intead it should be considered as a downgrade in software quality very much unsatisfied this time

It's true, I am the software.

It's not sooooooo bad after all, battery really drains fast but the ROM is quite normal i think.
I really like TouchWiz because we have some features like Multi-Window, S Note, Fully integration with the S Pen, etc.
Always wanted to use pure Android(CM and others) but i would miss the way to organize the apps on the Drawer as i want and they aren't non-Wiping ROMs, once that all these features are included on a ROM i would be free from Samsung ****ty updates.
Better an resonable Jelly Bean than no Jelly Bean.

I actually like the appearance of the new icons/weather themes/wallpaper, that's why I was so looking forward to this release. But I agree with you guys, it sucked. When I bought my Note with 4.0.4, the impression it I got from it was the same as the Note II with TW UX gave me: smooooooth! I updated my Note officially through Kies, so I'm sure nothing went wrong in the 'flashing' process. I've also done a factory reset. But everything else lags except for home screen transitions, it's kind of a disappointment. S Note, Camera, Contacts take at least 4-5 seconds to load. Music player has stutters in music playback. There's a delay when using the S Pen.
But now I've moved onto a custom ROM, and it's keeping me really happy.

It's 50:50

First of all I don't care about back up. So forget about it.
Secondly, I was using ICS with philz kernel. I did all 3 wipes and then wiped preload which says now install newROM.
Then I installed original ICS using PC odin. Then I updated JB using KIES. Then I reset internal memory by using factory reset.
If you think that this process is not good enough: then please come to india, new delhi and do it for me you moaner.
Hope every one who wants to say that full wipe do the trick. Please read this post.

I bought sony xperia for my father with A7 cortex processor which is lower than what note has. But guys believe me. Smoothness of that phone is way beyond our note. We cannot even expect that from crappy sammy.
I will never buy sammy again. Apple or sony will be the preference

Quad-core, 1GB ram + jellybean & widget menu lags everytime

Is this real life? Can't Samsung allocate some ram for it and cache it so I doesn't lag on start up everytime?
Isn't JB still unofficial?
Yes jellybean is still unofficial, but I still get this On ics
I just find it weird that I can play nova 3 flawlessly yet lag in the widgets menu. Samsung need to fix this.
Wait for official Jellybean.

Aye. The widgets menu always lags. It's pretty annoying that a quad-core phone with 1GB of RAM can't handle such a simple task.
I think samsung forgot to include "Project Butter" for jelly bean s3
Seriously... What's wrong with this phone? It's really is a huge disappointment isn't it. My old s2 way out performs this thing. I bet even the huawei accend performs better. Prob worth replacing this with it! Doesn't it have 2gb of ram too?

Don't think smoothness is their highest priority right now, but to work out all of the bugs. They'll work on smoothing it out after it has been released. That's at least how they've always done it, not that their original firmwares haven't always been smooth, but they are almost always a lot better when they mature. The original firmwares for the SGS2 were really slow, but Samsung managed to improve the performance by a lot in later firmwares and the same goes for the SGS3.

I don't think the way you do about your comment. I do agree with him about what he said that the s2 runs better because I actually compared them both and the s2 runs faster and smoother. Also it is useless when you say "it runs well, its smooth as hell..." when you are trying to justify a comparison.. The s3 does run well, and it is smooth (well not really) but comparing it to the s2 we get the s2 as a winner. Try looking at the ram usage for the s3 and the s2, the s3 is almost always locked at 470+ and maximum is 780, the s2 with recently cleared memory has 200 mbs of ram used, and can reach up to 800.
So don't attack him just because you are too self righteous about your opinion. He has a point.
Android isn't really optimised for muli-core, only one can be used at any time. The SII runs better as it's lighter with less bloatware, don't buy a phone purely for the fact it has great specs because until Android can fully utilise all 4 cores you're no better off than someone who has 2.

Project Butter on SGS3

I thought it would make sense for us to have a dedicated topic for discussion of Project Butter on Jelly Bean SGS3 rather than drown it in the other JB threads with everything else.
This is a really critical feature that we are expecting from Samsung in JB and so far it doesn't seem to be quite there. What amazes me is how Samsung have not even optimized the basic apps such as Dialer and Contacts, it's painfully slow and is such a let down on this stellar hardware... And that's on ICS as well.
With all our Quad Core power is it really that hard to get flawless performance everywhere (including widgets drawer) when a Nexus device is able to do that with now ancient hardware.
What are your thoughts?

You misunderstood the whole thing.
Project Butter deals with how the GUI is rendered.
It doesn't speed up apps and isn't supposed to do that.

Project butter is present. I suggest you use an ICS Rom for a few days, then flash the latest JB leak, you will definitely notice a difference. Now we still don't have something final so chances are good that Samsung is gonna do more and more optimization before the final build. Also we can't compare the S3 with a skin ( touchwiz) vs a galaxy nexus or a nexus 7 which are running "pure" android but even with that in consideration, the S3 is still fast as hell with jelly bean. I do agree there's still a little work left to be done like the widget drawer which by the way doesn't lag for me on ics, that tells you it's just optimization.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Latest leak, contacts load pretty much instantaneous
Not fussed about the app drawer, only go there rarely and would rather not have all those pictures cached in memory taking up space when I use it so rarely, and everything else is fast....job done
I notice it. Flashed my first JB ROM last night and instantly felt the difference!

I am not expecting it to get faster... But smoother and stutter free.. Yes.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
really can't see any lag or stutter here at all
What's happening here is that we have two project butters'.
One is the one Google announced at Google I/O which involves triple buffering, vsync. ....... blah blah blah.
The other is the one people have imagined, super zomg amazeballs android on crack project butter, where apps open when you think about opening them and finishes all your games with all achievements, automatically.
It also makes coffee.
One is real, one is nonsense.
Most people are expecting/looking for the nonsense one when they flash a JB leak.
All I need to say is, First release of ICS on S3 was stuttery, BLG8 was smooth, there werw a load of releases between to get it right.
Give Sammy time, its not even officially released yet. :banghead:

Well I have the latest leak LI7 with latest siyah kernel, I have tweaked it and OC to 1.6ghz. i am getting high 6500+ quadrant scores and yes its the smoothest i have seen my phone run. But even with all these tweaks and such there is hardly any difference at all in UI performance it performs just like the best of ICS, I mean i don't understand what this project butter is all about what am i supposed to feel. The OP is correct there is a few jitters here and there especially in widgets drawer. so samsung whats project butter i am yet to feel it, i over heard articles say we are going to notice a difference. Let me tell you if i had ics installed left my phone on a table and some one changed everything over to what it is now jb+siyah+tweaked and made everything look the same. I can guarantee that I would not know the difference. I mean are we meant to be searching for the difference or is the difference meant to be looking for us?
Edit: And the only reason I have brought this up is because of this so called Project Butter. If that was never mentioned then i would be just like " Everything seems fine works just like its meant to, It not slow . Thats it. But because Project butter was said I am now waiting for a difference in which I would notice
Look I have the nexus 7 and this phone both running either stock jb for the n7 and latest leak for gs3.
Now they both are smooth as butter and I mean soft country crock on toast smooth.
I love the latest leak in fact it made for some reason smart keyboard pro much more smoother too!
So I do thinks its in our latest leaks. And yes compared to any ics rom leak i6 and i7's are almost perfect for me!
Sent from either Galaxy S3 intl or Nexus 7
both on stock at the moment!!
Latest leak for me is brilliant, I've come from dli5 and using my phone today has been like using a new phone. No lag, no redraw, my contacts load quick and jumping from letter to letter is immediate unlike on ics when you had to wait a second or 3 for the letter you chose to load.
Everything silky smooth here, maybe some people are just a lot more in tune to every little stutter and pause?

Indeed... and it amazes me to what level of difference in perception and expectation of the same thing are people capable of being. Project Butter in its essence is a metafor for smoothness and fluidity of the UI. It is not some utopian idea about an instantly responding UI and to look away from these quite evident glitches lags and stutters as a default behavior is to be entirely missing the point of Project Butter and being satisfied with the current Project Stutter. As much as I would like my phone to react instantly I don't need it to. But I would like it to deal with its non-instantenouness gracefully. For example if I open a contact list don't show me a half-baked version of what the contact list should be - show me another piece of UI that says to me that the list is being loaded and once you're done loading the entire lost smoothly animate it into view. No one expects to have a contact list of five hundred people to load up instantly - but also no one should care much about the device advertising it by stitching the list up of cotacts from four corners of the world. You cannot do some loading and then some drawing and then some more of both... load everything and the work your way to fluidly present other to the user.
But here we come to the real culprit: we must assume that the framework for such a graceful UI is there in JB. It is up to the developers to properly utilize it to achieve the desired effect and this is when developers must undergo a paradigm shift. Pasting an old contact app onto the new framework will bring no buttery benefits if it is not relying on the new framework that enables the apps to behave smoothly. This is I think the point at which Samsung is failing thus far. No amount of optimization will supersede the basic qualitative change - in the same way that drag racer will never have the sophistication of a luxury limousine though it will be faster and explode or fall apart every now and then - when it comes to the experience of that elusive thing that leaves the end user with feeling a level of satisfaction just by scrolling up and down the system preference list...
All this is not to say that JB is exempt from criticism as this is only a beta of the first iteration of Project Butter. I know that all would love to have it perfect from the get go and it never is so. Still, some basic stuff should work out of the box...
Sorry for the lengthy post...
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I never experienced any UI lag in ICS, so I haven't seen any difference in JB. The animations are shorter, so events seem to happen faster, but if you turn off animations on ICS and JB both, you see that they are equally fast.

projectbutter makes the s3 amazing

I am really surprised at how amazing jelly bean really is on the s3, with ics it was fast and smooth already but now it blazes.
it is faster and smoother than my iphone 4s on ios6 and my wp7.5 hd7 of old which now belongs to my brothwe. it equals in smoothness that of my iPad 3 and in many ways is faster add depending on the app it generally opens them faster.
it is s real winner. battery life could be better but I'm more than happy at the moment and it was well worth the wait!

That's your opinion. I've tried both, and the S3 is faster, and better imo.
Certainly on AOSP it is without a doubt, ill always choose AOSP first and foremost now there can be no going back to Sammy ROM's only as a secondary ROM, i can live without FM Radio (i always use Tune in Radio PRO anyway much better highly recommended app) and other small things you don't get IN AOSP the good far outweighs the bad.
I have to agree Project Butter is a lot better than in the leaks, but there is optimization to do, like the widgets draw, which still lags until it is fully pulled into memory.
I can't wait to see what the updates have to offer.
And would u mind telling us how u managed with the freaky lag we get when we try to open phone dialer after it being closed 4 a while? Why do they call it a phone when the thng it does the worst is opening the phone app!
Just be thankful you don't have the WiFi issue that it gave me.
Beforehand, no problem connecting to the WiFi.
Now, I have had to disabled "power saving mode" in the menu *#0011#, because whereas previously on ICS, it would connect if the WiFi got dropped (say, it went to sleep, or I disabled it), unless I do this, if it gets dropped, it would not reconnect until I reset the phone.
Very, very annoying.
I've raised the Issue with Samsung.
And it's not just me with the issue.
supernexus build 5 is a winner

while on ics i used ex dialer, on JB it still loads slowish but it takes 1 sec rather than 4 for me and im fine with that so i stopped using ex dialer for now.
I prefer AOSP rom too but you will miss a lot of s3 features. That's the reason I stick to stock.

I completely agree i owned various devices and always used Asop or akop. But on this phone, if you use asop or akop you miss the features on the phone. So i tend to stick to stock all the time simply because i need most of the features.

I always switch between Sammy and AOSP for this reason but now with dual-boot I have the best of both world.

No need to go to Samsung, you are on XDA. All the experts are here. I'm not an expert but I would say to just flash another ROM or Modem.

Wow! Google should have never brought project butter up in the first place. Now we have some weirdos having a weird placebo effect thinking that the GS3 firmware does not incorporate PB when it would be absolutely retarded and more difficult for Samsung to take it out of the source code and add in half butter. That is like the most hilarious thing I have ever heard. No developer would rewrite PB to operate at half.
There is a possibility that touchwiz animations do not look as smooth as AOSP animations to some eyes but I highly HIGHLY doubt it that they would change the genetic code. lol
People need to stop tripping or otherwise Google is not going to even bring up any transition improvements to prevent this crap from happening to their OEMs that use Android skins.

Will I still get all the goodies like 60 fps and other stuff on nova launcher instead of touchwiz?

Note Gurus. Is the Note still a good phone to get?

I am on my way to get myself a Galaxy Note-1 because they are giving it away for free. I don't play games or do any heavy duty stuff and I don't want to spend too much either. I am coming from an EVO so this should be an upgrade, right? Come on, push me towards this already. :fingers-crossed:

If you are coming from an EVO, then hell yes it's a good choice! But be wary, ICS on Note sucks. Either stick with Official Gingerbread, or jump straight to Official Leaked Jelly Bean.

OK. Will do. But why does ICS suck on the Note even though the hardware is decent?

I don't agree that ICS suck. I am using it for 4 months now without any issues.

Its a good phone with great development still !
Stock ICS is okay-ish, But whack in a custom kernel (essential) and it will make a massive difference, Besides, there are some awesome JellyBean leaks out now with tons of features so theres no point even thinking about ICS.... its history.
However, If you had that little extra $$$ why not consider getting the Note 2 ? there are some deals in the UK where the phone is free, but the montly payment is around £35 GBP
I assume thats what you meant by free right ? cause if someone is actually giving you this for free with NO contract at all....... TAKE IT !!!!
Note is always a good phone to buy even after 6 months from now. For now it has enough power that is needed by a tab or phone....
I am using it for the past 9 months and is still on stock ics 4.0.4 and its working way too perfect for me no lags or hangs. Still a best choice at a now reasonable price. Go for it.

They stick their half-assed Gingerbread UI to ICS, made performance worse, and totally makes a total mess that makes Note completely horriffic to use.
JB solved all that. Almost thrown my phone out of the window.

I have some old people that are rocking ics just fine. Its all relative, some better experience on ics, some gb, some jb.
Personally I was dissapointed with ics cause it would better utilize the hardware then gb. Considering the hardware integration in OS functionality, it wasnt to great. Android wide problem.
Problem I have JB is the ram bloitedness. The phone slows doen when apps are loaded, whilst theoretically this shouldnt be the case for android OS.
I notice the degradation of its specs in performance. So if your going to buy something that should last I'd recommend buying the newest stuff.
However if you do light browsing, no multitasking, then this is a perfect device, now also cheaper.
If you do multitasking, even with supercharging and bulletprooving apps you will find loads of reloads when switching apps. Kinda sickens me, why load it in memory if it cant keep the state properly (apple can do this)... The newest leaks look promising, but they will lag.. Then again if youre a light user it should be fine.
I noticed I almost never use pc when I got this phone.

You're talking old as in aged old or like old pals? In case of former, there'd be no problem !
Yep, TW-ICS really sucked.
Have not noticed any of the ram problems you have mentioned although I haven't been on JB-TW for a very long time.Try CM10.1.The new builds are very good !
Ics dont suck at all. The earlier releases of ics had some issues but those that are released late like in the regions of india pakistan and middle east. Its working way too perfect, with no ram leaks and plenty unused memory. They fixed the battery and other issues. Yes the notification menu is almost same as was in the GB. But overall a better experience than GB.
Note and s2 are among the first phones to get the ics.

JB is like Windows 7: lean, mean awesome OS!

JB is still a leaked version so no official comments on JB from my side .
Custom JB roms are not for me. Samsung hid the source and dev cant make it fully functional and fixed.... Still some had good results after flashing.
So am still waiting.

I cannot understand why some people say that ICS on the Note sucks. In fact it runs smoothly, it's stable, no problems at all. The only disadvantage of ICS is the brickbug. JB on the other hand is still in beta stage. If you go for JB you will have to deal with force closed app, sudden sleep of death, bootloops and the like. JB on the Note is not ready to be used as everydays rom. It's not yet reliable.

Running ICS stock with speedmod kernal and the only complaint I have day to day about the phone is the black crush in videos. Otherwise its great. Battery life, power, phone use, gps, etc, etc.

Rubbish phone

I've had this phone for just over 2 weeks and it's utter garbage. Everything runs so slow, there is always a delay when opening messages and other apps. I've had 2 random reboots. I'm coming from a HTC one that is what 2 years old and that baby was sweet as a nut butter smooth. Are there any new updates coming out to make this phone run faster
So get rid of it. Everyone else seem to be pretty positive, including me.

Try the J firmware.
If you can you should return it, if you can't, root and reduce the DPI 560 seems sweet. Also use a different launcher and keyboard. That will remove most of the lag, but not all.
The phone is not rubbish, LGs software and "configuration" on the other hand is a bit over aggressive:
- thermal throttling kicks in too early in my opinion (play a game for a few minutes and frames start dropping like crazy due to the processor being capped). the phone isn't that hot either - considering my N5 reaches temperatures where it feels a lot warmer than this and seems to not cap the speed that aggressively;
- there is a lot of useless software from LG running (updates, smart stay, quiet hours, bla bla bla) which eats up memory, processor usage, etc.
- be careful if you have an sd card in it (I had an old card in it and everything was twice as sluggish);
- avoid power management / battery monitoring tools (using GSAM battery monitor in my experience seemed to keep the phone awake more then it should resulting in earlier thermal throttling).
Ways to improve performance:
- keep the software that you need active (give up unnecessary widgets, services, syncs). keep only to the ones you need;
- try the phone without a sd card;
- try to keep it as cool as possible so it runs cool and doesn't throttle performance;
- (advanced) root ... and get rid of useless junk ...
- (advanced / risky) disable throttling and other safety features ...
I've changed keyboard
I'm loving it. Phone of the year. The m8's got a crappy camera and too much bezel, the s5... Well, it's the s5. Sony, yeah Sony, great contestant. Doesn't have the style, the flare tho. No nanny Fine finesse.
Different strokes for different folks, eh.
Sent from my grenade launcher using heat guidance.
The phone is indeed rubbish:
- crappy laggy LG software. No match to Google's Android.
- bleak washed out colors of LG IPS screen
- over sharpening
- crappy over sensitive Knock wake up
