It's going to be released in India for 10k(slightly less than 200$). Same thing as 620 except no front camera. Same 8GB storage, 512MB RAM, 1 Ghz Krait dual-core, 5 MP camera.
If you compare it with the Android pseudo smartphones available at that price (Galaxy Y etc), the 520 is a great device..
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
I would say it's a great deal. It has all the insides of the 720 and 620 and all that great built-in Nokia software. It is also lighter than the 620, and has a bigger screen and probably better viewing angles since it's IPS. And about 30% less! What's not to like?
You just have to be aware what you're doing without - primarily no front camera, no flash, and no ClearBlack display that usually makes those Lumias do so well in bright sunlight.
no
there is no flash camera !!!

£109 at carphone warehouse in the UK
I just picked this phone up yesterday for £109 - an absolute bargain. Build quality is extremely good for this price point - it makes my wife's Samsung Galaxy S2 look average in comparison. WP8 is not as highly developed as iOS or Android, but then I wouldn't expect it to be. It's heaps better than Android was a couple of years ago... very slick interface and the Nokia apps are manufacturer apps I actually want!... the only downside is the battery which is ok, but not amazing./
---------- Post added at 02:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:14 PM ----------
P.S> Will there be a thread on XDA for the new 520/720 devices? or is development on WP8 not really possible?

I don't think so. As of now WP8 development isn't really possible, and tbh I don't see what we can do with it, so maybe not. Overclocking would be nice but useless, with 512MB of RAM.
I can't fine advanced audio settings
I bot this phone a week ago. When i tried to access the advanced audio settings it doesn't show the audio presets or anything. It opens 'enhancements' and nothing else. Does ny one know what I am doing wrong?? anyone with this phone, please reply. Thanks in advance.
Cons
Its Not a good deal in my opinion because the phone does not have flash and front facing camera other wise the phone is good.
Picked one up for wife 2 days back.
Still in the learning curve.
The front camera you may not need that, but the flash is essential for me. I take one 4 days ago but not use it much, Ram 512mb seem ok for this model

I'm thinking about trading my One V in for the 520. They were nice and are gonna give $100 for this laggy pos. The only thing about the no camera flash is I would sometimes want to use it as a flash light. Don't care about front facing camera. Does the 520 have a compass? One thing other than the lag I don't like about the 1v is no compass. I'd trade a compass for a flashlight any day. Worth the trade?

It's awesome! 2 days of using and everything is just perfect, but I'm missing for flashlight, sometimes it's can be useful.

It would be interesting to see a poll on how many people are coming from S2's or S3's since these are basically customers Samsung have lost.
Currently have an S3 and debating this also. I'm excited about the sound performance and low light photos but worried about overall camera sharpness and lack of SD slot. Battery is not a biggie but would have been nice (every once in a while I swap them as it's more convenient to have pre-charged).

Yes, I came from S3 to Droid DNA, and LOVE the screen and overall performance! hTC one must have at least equally great screen and even faster performance.
The only thing I didn't used to when switching from S3 to Droid DNA was that I liked the wifi toggle in notification of S3. But after I installed an app called "notification toggle" from google play, everything works great! Didn't miss much about S3 except for the beautiful covers!

From what I have seen, many are going from the S3 to the HTC One. Maybe it was coincidence.
I am also going from a S3 to the One. Still haven't got it though.

I've actually got both the S3 and HTC One and have an S4 prototype to use at work and out of the three of them i have to say that the HTC is my favourite, it's really grown on me as a device, i was ready to ditch it the other day and get my money back but theres a problem with that which is in the process of being resolved but in the mean time i'm loving using the phone, everything just works at the drop of a hat. Having used the S4 today and saw some benchmarks in front of me the HTC One actually won on every one ? Which was weird as i'd read that it's supposed to be the other way around.
Saying that it is a prototype and not the actual S4 but the hardware is there, maybe not the finished software though so that probably played a part and it's not my phone so i have no idea what was installed.
I'm guessing that when the S4 is released it's going to be a beast, but as i said i still found myself going back to the One, it's build quality and those speakers are just incredible, the screen is like a mini cinema.
My only gripes (and they're not major) CRT probably won't be on the Sense roms, Bluetooth support for apps like sixaxis doesn't work (hopefully it will in the future but it actually doesn't work at the moment and will probably need a stock android rom like CM to get it to work)
Camera isn't as good as i'd have hoped for.
And lastly for me, battery life has been poor and the phone has been hot when gaming (rooted or not, it has got hot at times, but then again, it's so slim so i suppose that's to be expected)
At the moment i would say either the S4 or the HTC One is a worthwhile upgrade from the S3 seeing as both of them were able to smash quadrant into pieces and score 12500 (ish) and the s3, from my experience has only been able to manage 6500, this is seen throughout both phones and they both perform so well it's unreal.
This year should be a good one for development, difficult decision to make between the two of them, but a no brainer coming from the S3.

The pictures i've taken have been either roughly the same or superior on the S3, low light might be there but in terms of a quality pic, then no the S3 is the better camera, apertature aside, it is only a 4MP camera at the end of the day and definition has suffered because of that.
Best damn 4MP camera i've ever used though, but i wouldn't say it's better than the S3, we got a few and blew them up and yea, s3.
Makes more sense come from an S3 for a ONE (premium design, different UI and screen) than someone from an S3 to an S4, because it's almost the same thing.

Tell us what you like and dislike personally about your phone(not that there is a lot that you could dislike about this device), I don't care what it may be. Let us know how much you love or hate your HTC ONE.
AND IF your gonna post telling me how much you hate the thread and that it's useless then honestly if it was useless you wouldn't of bothered opening it. So your comments will not be acknowledged.
By the way, you CAN repeat already posted comments, because it is your opinion.

4MP camera (UPixel). Sure it does a fine job in low light, but one distance comes into factors the quality goes out the window.
I'm not much of a camera person, but it sucks in concerts, and when trying to capture something couple blocks down. I'm always promoting the HTC one to people, but when a GS3 takes better pictures it's progress lost.
Other then that I love this phone.

Well when an Osprey is landing you kind of need to stay at a distance safety an all and you think hey look that's cool let me take a picture and it comes out horrible. It's advertised to have one of the best cameras on a phone yet a GS3 takes better distance pictures.

I wish the phone could be disassembled. Not being able to service the device myself is a big down side. If I could find someone that is willing to trade for the N5 I would do it in a second.
I dislike the silly power button placement. The volume buttons are also very hard to find and press. the camera is ok. unless you look at the pictures on a screen that's bigger than 5". other than that i'm happy with my one, especially since i got rid of nonSense and converted to gpe . oh and boomsound is also a massive disappointment.
The camera is pretty bad and the battery life is not that good.
The camera quality is a huge dissapointment and Blickfeed. The idea of Blinkfed is good, but articles need to go when read and I would like to mix in RSS. Besides that I find battery life great in general use and love thd feel of it and the display. Best mobild yet.

You don't know the term "netiquette", do you?
The most is probably the camera. But, I don't take too many pics so it's not that big of a deal.
Camera is #1 con for most. Including me.other than that i would say power button is a little misplaced. Won't be that much problem as soon as I can get used to S2W which takes time for me.
Unable to tear apart. But I treat my phone like gold so no need to yet.
Pros
Batterylife? can't complain, was terrible at first, but probably because it was partly default until it defaulted completely. Sent it in for repair, now I'm super happy. Getting two days give or take. (On Maximus and ElementalX.)
Alu body finish. Just class.
Screen, wonderful
Best speakers ever.
Superb xda community and Rom support.
Sent with pigeons.
It's so slippery. I'm keeping a case on it mainly for this reason.
Love the front speakers. Maybe too loud, even at minimum.
As said before, blink could have been better.
I'm not that much for looks on a phone, but sense is quite classy. And this aluminum body, really nice. But yeah, f#ckin slippery.

Really hoping the G3 satisfies my needs to qualify an upgrade, basic needs in order are :-
* 3GB ram to make it future proof
* Great camera
* SD Card
* Removable battery
* Good sound (stereo speakers would be great)
If it has these, I'm buying it and can't wait to buy it, else I'll have to look at the oppo find 7

I certainly hope so otherwise I'm going drive myself around the bend!
My Vivid is way past it's upgrade date.
I waited for the Nexus 5, but decide against it thinking the S5 would be a better choice, then saw that the M8 was imminent.
I have been on the fence with both of these phones.
I was really disappointed with the build quality/QC on the M8, widely reported and as I have seen first hand on a number of in store units. Add in screen polarizing issues, camera and reduced usable screen area made me think twice.
The S5 appears to have a lot of lag issues and this coupled with the fiddly charging port cover made me wonder if could sit out another 2 years with this phone.
I then saw the G3 on the horizon and figured that it looks like the phone for me, unless of course there's something else coming soon!
Hopefully the announcement in 10 days time will be followed by product in store to put me out of my misery!

I don't mean to speak out of turn but your experience will be relative to what device and camera quality you are accustomed to. If you compare with the likes of the HTC One m7 m8, the OG Moto X or the nexus 4 then you will find the Z3 a big improvement. However, if you are coming from a Galaxy s4/5 or an iPhone 5s/6, then it will be only 'comparable'. Comparable because 1. Sony shines, excuse the pun in the low light area of photography 2. It has better slow motion control in video compared to the others and does give you that 20mp sensor with hardware two stage shutter button 3. I found the digital image stabilization to be better than Apple's OIS (see Btekt youtube vs video). But it is underwhelming when compared to the competition when it comes to zoomed in detail, capture speed and motion blur reduction in still photos. I hope that helps.
I do think this can be addressed with some firmware updates from Sony. They have sent FW updates to the Z2 in the past and made improvements to the camera this way.
For me this is the second best phone I have ever had. Topped by htc one m8. I like the screen more on this one but everything else goes to htc. Even the camera.
Sony should do something with the software.

I think that is where we differ on opinions. I came from the m7 and prefer the camera on the m7. The photos just look real compared to the washed out look of the z3.

I respect your view sir. It is strange that almost every independent review has rated the m8 as the worst performing camera. Mainly due to the low amount of detail. If what you say is true, then the Z3 would be a new low. LOL. Peace.
Best multimedia device to me. Not the the best at any one thing, but well rounded and good at everything. Give me a good swiss army knife any day over the sharpest kitchen blade! Thats the z3!
Coolest and geekiest (in a good) way device. N900. That thing was like minipc with ancient specs that they just decided to slap phone app to! Lol. Damn i miss that thing!
Best phone ever purely on phone aspect.... N95-8gig baby what else! Lol!
A lot of biasoty in this post of course! Lol!

For me this is the second best phone I have ever had. Topped by htc one m8. I like the screen more on this one but everything else goes to htc. Even the camera.
Sony should do something with the software.

If everything is better on the HTC one but the screen you then I guess you will be using the One as your daily driver, right?

Well I tested the z3 this weekend and put it for sale this morning. I left m8 at my office on Friday and will make the change back to it tomorrow.

Whatever makes you happy and fits your needs! But the M8 will never take pics like these in the link below. Plus if you wanted to crop one to get a close up of one of the animals. The 4 MP in the M8 really falls apart.
I did not take these pictures. They were posted in the Z3 pictures thread.....

i came from an M8 to the z3. i think everything about the Z3 (in terms of what it has to offer) is better then the M8 maybe except the design of the phone. am really liking the Sony UI as well as the intense battery saving functions. This is the first phone so far for me that I can leave it unrooted with everything on (location, google services) and not have to worry about the battery dying mid day.

What makes this phone fall apart is the inconsistency of the pictures. Sometimes you get a nice result but more often you end up disappointed. M8 on the other hand while not the best camera is quite consistent, you know what you will get. You won't get zoomamble images but on phone screen gorgeous.
When I used it a lot of people said that wow this phone takes nice pictures.
But yup, still on Sony. It's growing on me.

Mostly software. Call me crazy but I like sense.
But also I notice that Sony is not as comfortable to hold. They did round the edges so it's better than z2 but still m8 feels quite nice with the curved back.
But let's see, now when it's time to apart from Sony I am getting hesitant

Oh and also : Is it just me or is the camera lens location annoying? I get my finger there quite often. I like it more when it's in the middle.

lol I'm completely the opposite. I would always get my finger in the M8 lens. so far I havent gotten my finger in the Z3 lense yet
some people are putting way too much emphasis on the camera. Realize one thing people, you use a phone to take pictures for social media, you are not going to use it for your professional work, so for something like an HTC one M8 it should be more than enough. Also, Megapixel isn't everything, the Iphone 6 takes amazing pictures having only have 8 MP.
I came from the HTC One (M8) to the Z3 about 2 weeks ago.
Overall, I am pleased with the switch for several reasons:
- battery life of the Z3. Even though the M8 has great battery life, nothing on the market comes close to the Z3 right now. Unbelievable battery autonomy.
- bezels. Both devices are the same size, yet the Z3 has a bigger display. The M8's bezels were too big for my taste.
- build quality. My M8 has a loose volume rocker and the camera was scratched beyond recognition. I had to apply toothpaste to get rid of the scratches and it made my camera very sensitive to light and basically ruined the already awful camera.
Things I miss about the M8:
- the metal finish. Boy that was nice to feel! The Z3 has the metal bezels, but the back of the M8 was just lovely.
- the "grip" of the phone. The rounded back of the M8 made it easy to hold and handle. the Z3, while better than Z1/Z2, is still a bit too squarish to my taste.
Both fantastic devices, can't go wrong with either. The Z3 just has that extra 'oomph'.
EDIT: of course, I also miss the development options of the M8. Once you S-OFF the M8 you're basically free to do whatever you want. on the other hand I don't even have root on the Z3 still, unless I want to unlock the bootloader and actually lose some features.
If Sony chose to use capacitave buttons rather than functionally have a 4.7" display for a lot of apps due to the navigation bar, I might agree. That is a LOT bezel that could be used and tear down supports there was space for it.
I curse Android and their space hogging capacitave button loving ways. At least Samsung gets it (FWIW) and LG at least made an effort to mitigate the nav bar with immersive mode on the G2/G3.

Thoughts? I'm surprised they didn't mention having any light bleed problems on the left side by the SIM and microSD slots.
Well just one thing I will say that benchmark don't say anything how device behaves in real life !
I jst played mc5 and spiderman 2 and thor and I didnt notice a single lag and graphics were on par with my bro z2.
Only one major site has given such review so nothing much to worry about.

I think he is right on certain things, but on the other hand on his final conclusion he is not realistic.
The camera: yeah it is not as good as the high end phones of today, but it is a lot better then the phones that the mainstream buyers had.
CPU/GPU: CPU wise it performance at the same level as a snapdragon, or it comes close to it...
But that is in a benchmark, in real life and normal use you won't see the difference it all comes down to the software/launcher.
GPU is indeed a generation behind, it is clear as water.
Mainstream users or people that don't play a lot of games won't notice, and if they do play a game 80% is playing a 2D game to kill the time.
Hardcore gamers are indeed better of on a other phone if they plan to keep it for 2 years.
NAND that is a different story, I am not really familiar what that does with your performance in every day usage.
But the reviewer, and in other reviews to, stated that it not have a big impact of the normal usage.
So in the end, I think price wise it is a good deal for many people, the note 4 is in Holland a whopping 300 euro expensively than the mate 7

Gsmarena also gave a negative review on mate 7.

Wow, i just read the lengthy review of anandtech, and im quite surprised with all the neagatives the reviewer has mentioned -- CPU, GPU, NAND & battery life.
I was wondering if he was using an old and an unfinal version of the software in the mate 7. Although he answered that he was using the late october release, pretty much the latest one.
Bottom line is: as a regular user, i dont give a damn about benchmarks and measurements, as long as my actual experience with the device is awesome. And my experience with the mate 7 has been awesome!
didn't notice this topic already exists. placed order on amazon and now saw the review from Anandtech...

Don't worry this phone is amazing I guarantee !!!
And this phone runs all games easily including asphalt 8, modern combat 5, spider man 2, thor and real racing 3. I'm telling you this because I had played these games smoothly on my phone which is 16Gb variant. And battery life is amazing.

The AM7 is a well built and great performing phone, all tasks are executed well. The camera is far better than this review says, so is batterylife. Daily usage is what matters, not benchmarks and other measurement. They have sold more than 1 mill of this one and the majority of buyers will never know or register the cons mentioned by Anand.
Stupid Anandtech. I am very happy with my device. The best I ever had. My battery never lasted a whole day, rather half day. Now I am enjoying it up to sleep time, still have remaining juice. I don't expect my phone camera to be DSLR camera. The camera quality is sufficient for me.
BTW which phone is perfect in this bloody review? He didn't show many phones in these benchmarks. Why? He deliberately wanted to undermine this lovely phone. Because he knows that people like it. That's it.

thanks for the input mate, haven't got the phone but i trust your words:good:
Some of the criticism seemed a bit too nitpicky fo me. "The mini USB port isn't perfectly centered."
Really? Come on.

actually.. I find it a valid point.. But I guess it is typical chine design
No seriously without some one bringing it up you will most likely not noticed it...
But for me it is a problem when I try to connect the usb charging cable at night in dark... cause usually I try to find the middle point but the usb port is slightly to the left...not a deal breaker... it still does look better then most devices..

ူlol .... ok bro i feel you now bro
This review is shocking.
The truth is the camera is so good on stable shot but not on moving objects. The camera also blows the iPhone 6 in close up shot. In a certain close distance, the iPhone 6 just cannot get a focus but the Mate 7 manages to capture the object with great details. Not to mention the excellent pictures in day light environment, which is no worse than Samsung's 2014 S5 (best in the day light capturing league). In low light, this phone even beats the S5.
The drawback might be when it is used to capture moving objects, because it does not have OIS.
Anyway the camera on the mate 7 is among the best flagships and I am only satisfied on it!
Second is the battery life. In wifi, the phone can have 8 to 10 hours screen on time on my use (mainly on browser, social apps, occasionally light games)! I am not kidding. Please get an equivalent phone with "more efficient" hardware packed like the snapdragon in front of me to compete!
I am a previous Nexus 5 owner. The only problem or step back I feel on this upgrade is the UI speed feeling. But I cannot complain as I came from the fastest phone in the world. However even in this field the Mate 7 still performs acceptable. (fluent, but just no lighting fast like the N5 in ART)
I am very shocked they say this phone still not in the league of the best. Because there are no better options!
Note 4 - Close but a step back on battery life and TW UI
Nexus 6 - Who dare say the camera on the N6 will be better than the Mate 7? Where is the micro SD?
iPhone 6+ - Kidding me but ask me to use a pretty much same size device but with a 5.5'' screen?
So I am sorry, there are no better options so far in the market!
thing is guys when people in these reviews knows that phone comes from china it auto goes negative.. bcos they think china makes crap phones.. they are used to it that it must be all top notch.. but when it comes to iphone sht then auto is everything tolerated bcause it is not from china..
it is just life .. peoples mentality... they do what they want to do.. how they likes it..not genuine way..
like iphone has only 1gb ram they say that is fine as iphone doesnt need it.. but when it comes to android and they wud see 1gb they wud go balistic.. oo only one gb
these guys own isheephones so.. their verdict will be always negative..
