After a week of research I figured out what was draining my battery. It's a system process related to Google backup. So, here's the tip:
* in Settings->Privacy disable "Backup my data"
* restart the phone - yes, you have to, otherwise the process will continue running
* enjoy!
Before disabling the backup service I used to get no more then 12-14h on a charge. After disabling the service I get 48h.
This service seems to be a problem with Samsung firmware only, it has no effect on battery use on my Desire HD.
I've tested this on stock XWKF3 (2.3.3) and XWKI4 (2.3.4) firmwares. Let me know if it's been effective for you.
I'm having new, really bad, battery drain... been trying to find the culprit for weeks. I just tried it... ill let you know if it helps.

Mine has always been off so no idea about the effects
How did you discover this?
I think he did, by turning it off and trying it out
thats one way.
what I was wondering was if he ever used battery monitors etc to find out the culprit. I wanted to ask about the symptoms

Looking forward to the reports from the users here..
Your battery lasts 4 times longer after disabling this? Do you expect anyone to believe you? Probably not.
Let me try n get back to u aft a few days
I think he got a point. I am at %67 in 7 hours. I use to spend more than %50 in 7 hours, that is, my battery will be depleted in 21 hours instead of 12-14 hours. Not x4 times but almost twice the battery life I had. I am not using any power savings, stopped green power. Wifi on, 3g on. All battery consuming widgets, e-mail check every 30 minures. Facebook in the background and Skype, and Fring, etc...
Thanx for the tip. ıt really works for me

I was monitoring usage with system panel and better battery stats. The backup process was holding a wake lock all the time. Its CPU time is also very high.

i also had my batt lived longer when i freezed wifi sharings, im, market updater, accu weather, radio and gmail which i do not use. Believe it or not, i topped 82 hours. My record. Without these i was getting 24 to 30 hours. Without widgets let me say.
82 hours was on 2.3.3. Now with 2.3.4 it is around 72 hours.
My emails are in push for every hour. I use my phone moderate to high by talking, internet over wifi and edge, and my phone is always on edge not 3G or H.
I believe that there are certain ways to increase your battery life. All you need is to find it how.

I wonder what you loose if you do it though??? (calendar entries, contacts etc)
Cause I don't wanna loose my contacts which are up in google servers
I ll try it I guess I get around 13-18hrs depending on usage ( Just copy my contacts to sim card first )
EDIT: Ah I think its ok its just for applications... not related to google account or so I believe
Current state 7hrs 18mins and 68% battery remaining will see how it goes
this isn't so new...
this was told already in the battery saver guide here in forums, nothing stunning like that!

Hello everyone, i purchased my Nexus 7 and it arrived in the mail 3 days ago. And as with every other Android device ive ever owned, the batter is absolutely terrible. I get about 2hrs on screen time when browing the web and maybe playing an occasional game. Does anyone have any idea whats going on? Or have any way to help? Thanks so much
That is pretty bad. Try a factory reset. Might be something you installed.
I'd hate to do a factory reset cause I just barely got it set up but..I'll try it anyway tonight

Doing a factory reset before installing anything is becoming the gold standard.
Hope it helps you.
I get between 7-9 hours of active use. Sounds like some process is running amok on yours. I didn't factory reset when I bought it either....though I have rooted it since then, but battery life is about the same pre and post root.
You might want to consider a program to monitor battery use to see what's eating it up. Maybe do that before you factory reset it so you don't install the same thing again.

System panel is a good app to find what's using your CPU and better batterystats can help find what's keeping your phone from going to deep sleep. An easy way to see if this is the case is go into battery setting and select the first option(history details). Compare the Awake bar with the screen on bar. Those two should be nearly identical if not then you have a rogue app.

have you flashed any kernels or roms? sometimes this makes the tablet report the wrong battery stats for a bit.
did you run the battery down until it turns off and then give it a full charge? sometimes you have more juice than what is being reported. ive been stuck at 1-2% for over an hour before. Most likely its a rogue app though, system panel and better batterystats should find out what app it is. if they dont then it could be that you have a defective battery...
Been on mine continuously for 3 hrs 18 mins and at 60%. Excellent if you ask me. Next step up in battery life would be Transformer series with dock.

Quite the opposite for me; unlike every other Android device I've had (Nexus One, GS2) the battery life is excellent. I watched 720p mkv video on the train yesterday for a good 3 hours, and still had ~70% by the time I got home, from a full charge.
The battery life is excellent, as far as I'm concerned.

Don't think you needed to calibrate the battery to begin with. I usually get fine battery life without doing anything special.
Something must be causing the poor battery on your Nexus, Yesterday after my N7 was fully charged, I watched the movie Thor for 1hr and 54 minutes n and my battery only dropped to 83%.
I'm at 16 hours and 52 minutes with 3 hours and 44 minutes of on screen time, the battery is at 51%

Unless you listen to music for over 5 hours or streaming the songs it shouldnt use that much battery. If you can't find a wakelock with better battery stats then it might just be a bad unit.
My battery is draining too fast after upgrading to android 4.3. Even only on 2g there is 1% decrease in battery almost after every 3 minutes. But with screen off it will remain almost at 99% after even 12 hours or more. But when I start using the phone for something like even navigating through the settings the battery drops 1% every 3 minutes or even less. My handset is about a month old. I am from India and running the ML4 android 4.3 recently released by Samsung. There is no wakelock when the screen is asleep. The phone screen consumes between 60 to 90% of the battery or more. I factory reset it thrice since the update but with no effect. I am running the 4.3 update for about 3 weeks now. I also installed Greenify, battery doctor, juice defender etc to save battery but there is no improvement. I installed the same apps that I installed on the 4.1.2 firmware but the battery is draining quite faster in the 4.3 version. I also freeze almost all bloatware using Titanium backup and even uninstalled some like Google Books etc. but no use. I don't use wifi or wifi hotspot at all. I rarely use bluetooth. GPS, location, etc off. I even freeze Google Play store, Google play services and Google services framework. No multi window, no smart stay, no s voice, no ripple effect, no live wallpaper, etc everything off but still the same. If there is anyone facing this issue and has already found the solution, please help me out.

It is normal battery drain.
Battery on 4.3 is almost same as 4.1. What else do you expect its a quad core phone.

This is funny! You mean to say that the upgrade to android 4.3 has damaged my battery? The battery is not even 1 month old as I mentioned in the first post. The battery is very good on android 4.1.2...... As I mentioned in the first post, there is no battery drain when the screen is off. Even after 24 hours the battery is 99% from 100% with screen off. Why should I checked for wakelocks when the battery is fine on screen off? I did checked it to be sure but no wakelocks. The battery problem is when I use the phone, the battery is draining abnormally when the phone is used. Anyway thanks for your reply.

Yes, 4.3 upgrade downgraded my battery life about 20% when I am using my phone. On idle it is better about 10-20% also compared with 4.1.2. It is useless to do factory resets or other nonsense. Just it is as is.

Okey So Firstly I rule Out Few Assumptions Made By Some Members(No Offense):
1) As thadoukuki said battery Drains only while using the phone and not wen its idle that means its not a wakelock for sure.
2)Secondly as the handset n battery ofcourse, are just a month old i dont even assume it to be damaged(Trust Sammy)
3)Thirdly 1% / 3Mins is quite normal on extensive Usage but as you say its just while navigating around settings etc. den i assume its a bit high.
4) Now betterbatterystats is good to identify what consumes your battery but ive never been a fan of that actually.
SO according to me try to do some trial n error work .
Instead of Freezing apps through TB u can use Greenify Donate to greenify system apps and user apps as well. It Does same job as TB freeze but without that extra hassle.
Secondly Choose a kernel that you think is battery friendly for you like the one which gives you peace of mind(Oh Yeah Battery's Draining Slow!!)
for me i'd go for Boeffla or Googymax
Choose a battery friendly Governer for ur CPU(For me Boeffla kernel with Archi_ultra_power_save governer gives great results)
Check if CPU Touch boost is Enabled in Kernel Settings coz Touch Boost gave me good performance and responsiveness but even i had observed that battery used to drain faster with it.
Battery friendly Rom with few Tweaks by xda members is always better for me over Stock( ArchiDroid Is the Rom ive ever Used){Personal Opinion}
Ppl Say undervolting helps .....hmm maybe ive never Done it but as you are very cautious about battery you may try it (on your own Risk)
Lets see if that Helps
And Lastly i never Observed much Change in Battery drain pattern wen Coming from 4.1.2 to 4.3 so thats not really true.

This. Mine is now providing me with less than 3 hour SoT, which was around 5-6 hours easy. So basically over 80 percent decrease in backup. Also phone will shut down at 10% sometimes, 5% next time. My phone is just eight months old, I am kind of a heavy user, I am forced to charge my phone twice a day sometimes, and I have always used the Fast Charging option, which probably is the culprit.
Whatever you do nothing will help, you gotta buy a new battery, if your results are as significant as mine. And for the new battery don't use the Fast Charging option if you wanna get the most out of it.

You suggest me to buy a second battery as backup right? When the first is slow change it with the fully. And why don't buy a powrrbank 10.000+ mah which can using for other devices? You are right I don't blame you or something I just want to know why specifically a second battery. Thanks.
I was convinced on the forums that my system service drain was regular until I took a look at my buddy's phone , he has a le s3 with 2 sim cards and his system service doesn't normally go past 80 mAh on a full charge . Something has to be wrong
This is a screenshot of my sot when I first got the phone
8 hours of SOT is really good. You can try installing Wakelock Detector to get a different perspective. Also, anything that uses accessibility services may harm battery life. Another thing you can do is go to settings-permissions-autolaunch and disable autolaunching of apps that don't need to be running all the time. You can see what apps are currently running in settings - app management. One last thing is that your signal strength isn't that great, so it may just be how it's supposed to be.

I'm in the same boat as you, only I'm running OmniRom. But yeah, had 8h sot, can barely make 6 now, android system is my second biggest drain, with 2+ hours of cpu usage.
I have tried and I have found that 7.1 to 8.1 do not have the best battery life.
I personally have been aopk 6.01 and been getting great battery life.
I did do a stress test I did gaming and blasting next radio 21 minutes use only 6% of battery.

I've tried everything , disabled all apps in auto launch , tried it with airplane mode on , enabled background resource control . Never go past 7 hours max screen on time . My screen brightness is usually very low throughout the day
What are all of these services ? My buddy has none of these
You are running stock I take it.
Different ROMs are going different services like you show.

Turned on battery assistance at about 80% , battery life drastically improved
This is now ridiculous
All eui is in the rom.
I have no problem with custom roms. (Omni,Aicp,Lineageos etc.)

I don't see the big deal you have 3 hours 57 minutes on screen time and 50% battery left you will get almost 8 hour screen time on that is well above average!

Went through a hard 12 hour process , finally unlocked bootloader , installed twrp and running lineage . Going to be testing battery life
I have the same problem with Eui rom. As long as the display is turned on, the system service will exploit the battery. Nobody knows that?
There are no such problems in custom roms.(Aicp, omni vs )

Flash Magisk and try Greenify4Magisk. It's gotta be some third-party app you're running, or you have a bad cellular connection. Are you getting full signal on your phone? Do you have LTE running as well?

I haven't installed many apps , just the basics like Snapchat WhatsApp Twitter and Instagram . I tried to flash magisk but that would mean uninstalling super su . I normally get around 3-4 bars but I don't use cellular data . I have Greenify but it doesn't seem to be doing much
