Downgrade to 4.0.4 ...for battery drain - Galaxy S II General

After trying for several months Android 4.1.2 official, I decided to go back to version 4.0.4 is the cause of the battery that doubles in the case of ICS, the aesthetic advantages Jelly Bean does not cover the disadvantages in battery life.

I don't want to go argue about the definition of "cheating", nor will I tell you that you are wrong about the counter resetting (though I'm almost sure you are) but you definitely DID recharge (and don't try to deny it because the proof is IN your screenshot )

I had battery drain problem with 4.1.2, my phone would last only some 30h. Now I flashed XWLSJ and I only had to charge after 3 days 15h (still had 7%) and this is in par with what I was getting with 4.0.3. My friend who flashed XWLSJ confirmed huge battery life improvement too.

4.1.2 is not so draining battery…at least i slimmed Svoice and google map(i don't need these),turn off weather widget and lockscreen weather can use over 5 days…personnally google map has a unit that always at backstage and often wake the phone…but the weather is most draining battery!only off the lockscreen weather can enlarge your battery over 25%…widget is same…so i usually on the weather only when i want to know how the weather is…
sorry for my poor english…

loving this thread....... i carry a small nuclear power pack in my pocket (My sex life is over but it glows in the dark now ) And i get 12.2 million years battery life out of mine. (Its that old my dad had it first )
really anything in the order of 10+ hours (ish) depending on if you use your phone or look at it lovingly on your desk is more than reasonable.
Be happy xda'ers

I know this probably isn't the best place to ask this, but my other half's S2 has just been updated to stock 4.1.2 and she is getting horrendous battery drain.
The phone is fully stock (never been rooted, no custom recovery etc), is there anyway she can downgrade back to 4.0.4 without losing all of her apps & personal data?
I don't really have any experience with Samsung phones, I am a Nexus user so I do have a usable knowledge of Android & hacking.
Thanks in Advance

I have to agree with the battery difference on JB..
On average I get around 3 hours screen on time, on ICS I get around 4.5.
No shocker as it's pretty much in the beta stages.
Definitely switching to ICS, until a final 4.1.2 is released.

Best battery life JB rom

Guys, as I am truly annoyed by the fact stock JB is draining like hell, I would like to know the best rom available now. If any of you have good experience with a particular rom let me know

Try Adam's ROM I'm getting similar battery life as in ics
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2
It's most likely not a ROM issue. I tried Adams and CM10 and had similar battery life. Make sure you turn off google now (just the cards that need to know your location constantly). It might also be that your update didn't go that well, so you might try a factory reset. It could also be a misbehaving app, so when you do a factory reset, maybe test the ROM before restoring/reinstalling your apps. Also, the more information you give us the better we can help. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I installed the stock factory image 4.0.4 and then waited for the official OTA. I updated and all works well, but I get around 15 hrs on a full charge with some Whatsapp and Facebook use. When I use it more intense with more screentime the battery drains the most. I think a factory reset wont give me more battery life then this, but I know my drain was not so big while I was on ICS.
By the way, which one is the most stable; CW10 (That chocolate river one??) or Jellybelly?

Sounds weird. But also keep in mind that there are still some apps that don't cope very well with JB, and Facebook has never been Androids best friend . But it doesn't make sense that it's only during screen on, most people report issues related to google now and apps doing **** in the background. If you want to switch ROM anyways, I suggest you use Adams Jellybelly, it's mostly stock (less features means less that can go wrong) and it includes thalamus kernel, which is IMHO the best JB kernel at the moment. I do not recommend any CM10 based ROMs if you're after stability. I assume you checked your battery stats and didn't find anything?
Edit: Chocolate river was abandoned when official OTA came afaik, so definitely Jellybelly . Make sure you do a full wipe though, if something's wrong dirty flashing isn't worth it.

Sounds good to me. Downloading Jellybelly now. I checked my battery stats and didn't find anywhing weird. I dont have much apps installed so there is not much that could give issues. When I leave my screen off (at night or while working) the battery life is not that bad. It's weird, but JB is still very fresh and new, so I'll just try some other roms =)

BUT, I do have Google Now activated. So really make sure to deactivate if you do not need it.
IMO all ROMs should give similar battery life.

Battery worst on JB than ICS

Hi Guys,
I am on the Three network in UK. I recently updated my to JB and immediately noticed that the battery performance has deteriorated. I used to get nearly two full days with a 2 - 2.5 hours of screen time, 1 hour talktime and 1 hour music and little maps with GPS. I can merely a day now with the same usage. I would like to mention that the standby time was brilliant on the last update I received on ICS. Is anyone facing the same issue. I am thinking of of doing a full factory reset. Not sure if that will solve the problem. The battery graph shows that something keeps the phone awake
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I flashed the french version last night and I literally only got my S3 yesterday too and I can't really comment on the battery life compared to ICS but the battery life is way better than on my Xperia Play... Anyway I intend on trying out CM10 soon.
for me the other way around
ICS used to eat battery faster.
everything depende on how you setup and how you use your phone. it's not as simple as ICS > JB or JB > ICS
All the leaks I used, including the Polish Rom, had rubbish battery. H3G is working fine. Even better than ICS (or about the same).
Disable google now & SVoice
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Yep getting similar battery as that screen shot... Seems to be a lot of wake locks also I have realised even with data turned off it still drains battery as if it was on... On ics with data off I would lose like 2% over night bit with jb data off I lose 10±% battery easily over night... Hoping this is fixed soon... I though jb is suppose to be more efficient than ics?

I know how to disable Google Now, but how to disable S-Voice on a stock (unrooted) ROM other than simply "not using it"?
Like an earlier poster, I used to get huge battery life with ICS by turning data off overnight etc, however now with JB it seems to drain much quicker.
I'm only sync'ing the minimal essential things as before, pretty much exactly the same settings, so disappointed in the battery life.
I made a point of doing a full wipe both before and after the update to be sure of starting "with a clean slate".
Some people have said that battery life should improve after a few days. Why should that be? Is it busy housekeeping its flash memory or something?
Did you try Settings->Application Manager->All->S-Voice->Disable?
Works for me.
I'm the same. Ics was much battery. I have turned everything off, disabled everything unsynced everything and batteryvstill draining at 3-4% per hour, whats the point of a smart phone if you can't use it! My battery drains pretty much the same whether the screen is on or off!
I found battery life in JB to be poor IF my wifi was connected - with wifi off or just disconnected battery life seemed to be similar to ICS. I use wifi a lot though, so for the moment I've gone back to ICS... wifi range and performance seemed to be lower in JB too for what it's worth.
Im loosing 2% overnight using foxxhound
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I get roughly 10-15% more juice out of JB with identical apps and settings.
My battery life is a lot worse on stock unrooted UK BTU JB aswell ... didnt even get 10 hrs out of it yesterday ... doing a full wipe and restore just now but its taking hours to put my apps back on ..
Didnt take this long to restore a iphone or is something wrong here ...My back up is only about 300mb and its been about 3-4 hours and still just at 50% complete ...
To be honest, that looks alright to me. 17 hours with network on all the time? And look at those wakes while the screen is off.
Post some BBS stats

[Official] [N7100XXDLL7] Battery Drain Thread

Samsung recently released a software update (N7100XXDLL7) to the Galaxy Note II and this update is reported to suffer from battery drain.
*Owners of the Galaxy Note II who installed the new software update reported us about the battery drain issue.
We of SamMobile have also tested the new firmware and we can confirm that the new update indeed drains the battery much faster than previous firmwares.
The new software update (N7100XXDLL7) fixes the infamous Exynos vulnerability,”Sudden Death” issue and resetcode bug but brings battery drain.
*Samsung itself did not give any comment on this issue*yet, we expect a new update based on Android 4.1.2 before the newer Android version 4.2.1 / 4.2.2 firmwares.
If you have the same problem with your Galaxy Note II please let us know in the comments!

Re: [official] [n7100xxdlk7] battery drain thread
I ended up reverting back to 4.1.1 because of wifi issues and battery drain. It seems like Samsung pulled the 4.1.2 update because OTA no longer finds it. Maybe that's an indication that they're working on it, fingers crossed.

Good to know. This update was really bad. I had to do a wipe data/factory reset because even the vertical scroll was laggy.
And the battery is a lot worse.
Yes its true. I have also been having the same issue. D scrolling problem along with quite a lot of battery drain. Just bought my device a week or two back. Worked flawlessly in the first few days but with the latest update has reduced the battery life quite a lot. Hope Samsung resolves it soon.

Damn, so that's what's going on. I've been going crazy at why my standby time went from 0.8% / hour to 1.6-6% / hour after the update. The drain is certainly noticeable and I hope this gets fixed soon.
is the DLL3 better than DLL7 as mine seems rock solid battery got the WanamLite running on mine
Dunno between 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 but I found ll7 better than ll5 for battery life.
I had huge idle battery drain after OTA update to 4.1.2 - about 2-3% every hour. I was loosing almost 20% battery over night with everything turned off. I did a factory reset and it seems back to normal now. It's probably a bit worse then 4.1.1 but I'm still getting 2-3 days with moderate use. Now it's draining 2% over whole night instead of 2% every hour.
I think I found out why my phone drain is so bad. It doesn't go to sleep.
I noticed this since yesterday. I woke up did a restart.. and look! It still doesn't go to sleep!
Sent from my GT-N7100
I too had the battery drain and no deep sleep, sine I have installed the note2core kernel (version 2.4 i think) and oc'd to 1.8ghz and the phone lasts days. No real need for the oc but it is stable and I have encountered no problems.

So far battery has been on par with the last update, which means there is still a drain. One thing I have noticed into do a few battery pulls or restarts every time you update so I did my second and it was funny, my battery life pre restart was 95 and post start up was 97. Right now it's at 96. So I'll give it a few days before I report back on battery life. But performance wise is just great. Same as before. Snappy and good.

Oh! ok.. i thought my battery was going crazy coz my note2 showed battery at 77% pre & 79% post restart . I'm on latest stock XXDMB2 (India) rom.
Another funny thing i have discovered is that if i charge the phone for a prolonged duration (i.e continue charging for about an hour after the battery is 100%) then the battery life improves significantly. It gives me as good battery backup as it was on 4.1.1. Charged it full 1 day 17 hrs back and with very light use 78% battery still remaining :victory:. With same settings and similar use it would otherwise be less than 68% remaining. Checked this twice and found the battery backup to be good if i charge it for some time beyond 100% charge. See screenshots below.

you mean downloading the miui rom? yeah definitely I'll give it a try after slimbean which I will try if I see no improvement on the bAttery. Has anyone had 2000mah and siyah kernel with supernexus rom build 5? What are your timings?

right now I am using the original 1650 mah stock battery of s2. I've been doing a lot of file transfers as of this moment via e.s. file explorer and currently I am transferring almost 13gb of data via wifi from my laptop. its been awake for 4 hours now with screen time of 1 hour and 30min. e.s. file explorer is keeping the system awake for 3 hours. I did some facebook and viber chats. screen at 35% brightness.. do you think this is the expected life of the stock battery? I am fairly new to samsung and I found the battery life to be disappointing even with the stock jelly bean rom from samsung. I will post some pics of the battery stats and cpu stats from cpu spy. another thing though. is there a good app from the market where I can test my two batteries and compare them? thank you

To callibrate battery..first completely drain the battery to about 5%, then charge the phone non stop without disturbing it till 100% and immediately remove the charger..again fully drain the battery and follow the above steps and u will get better battery life after a few cycles!
About roms..battery life does differ from rom to rom...i suggest u could check the custom kernels packed with zzmoove governor, ithat particular governor definitely improves the battery backup!
And in the above post es file explorer is eating ur battery..for that u should download greenify and hibernate apps continuously running in background!
great. I will follow your steps. one more thing. how can I know if the battery is still good or if its still holding the proper charge its suppose to have? thanks

best I can get is about 3 days standby in jb stock.
I use the 2000mAh battery is primary battery.. no big surprise to expect here, capacity is just 21% more by construction...
With wifi on, JB burns in my case about 3% in IDLE.. stock kernel.. and about 5% in 3G mode, IDLE.. then battery drains more or less fast depending on screen on, phone calls etc. I use the phone extensively for work (email sync & replies, phone calls, sms and voip) and i have to topup the battery twice or trice a day!
Have tried various custom kernels with all sort of magic to reduce battery drain.. more or less effectively.. sometimes with less stability.
Right now trying out latest dorimanx 8.27.. seems thatn IDLE with WIFI on drains around 2% per hour.. better than stock.. still not quite awesome
I miss the GB battery life.. but JB is so beautiful in comparison, I cannot go back!

Does Jb stock for you has better life or does custom rom have more? I really like the custom roms but as per observation stock rom offers more battery time. Right now I just reverted to stock rom i9100xwlss. Touchwiz really sucks. Supernexus is really beautiful but offers less battery (but I will have to try yet their latest build). Also one of the reasons for going back to stock is the camera shot quality. Custom roms really have poor camera quality. I guess when it comes to lowlight shots the stock roms are best. So much for that. Does stock rom offer more battry for you or custom rom does?

Below is a reply in some other forum by Samsung offcials regarding a specific method to Hard-Reboot your phone after a Firmware update: This method particularly helped me improve the battery life on SGS2 after 4.1.2 update.
"1. I’m sorry you are having issues with your device after upgrading the firmware. I can understand your frustration about this.
Old systems settings can be left on the phone after an update occurs, which is why we usually recommend a full factory reset after updating. If this isn’t done your device may begin to give false readings from system resources, or experience technical problems, which may explain the issue you are having.
We would advise on doing the following, which is designed to reset the settings on your device. Please back up your device using Samsung KIES before you do this.
1) Remove the battery for at least 40 minutes, put the battery back in and allow it to fully discharge. Afterwards, perform a full battery charge with the device turned off. Do not interrupt the charging process.
2) After the battery is fully charged, we would like you to perform a full factory reset, which can be done via Settings > Backup > Reset.
This process will reset your device, remove old system files that are no longer needed and enable your device to operate normally again.
Please let us know if your device continues to experience problems after the reset so we can investigate further.
If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and we will be more than happy to help.
Kind regards,
Stewart

Actually I only use stock JB.. and trying to get it last longer with some custom kernels.. recently trying snapdragon rom, which is stock JB as well but with some S4 apk made compatible with S2... tried some time back omega, vanila rootbox and some other android builds for s2.. but was facing few stability issues / bugs and also missed some features that i was getting from stock rom.. so i gave up with these... now just aiming at stability and if possible battery endurance.. but not at the cost of stability.
