I agree. I've tons of questions and opinions about the availabilty of (or lack of) accessories for this phone.
How do we go about requesting a new "T-Mobile USA HD2 Accessories" child added to the "T-Mobile USA HTC HD2" parent thread?
I realize there may be a section for this over at the Leo side, but this is where I come for my 1024, since there are too many ways to go wrong back over at the Euro side...
I'll second that motion, because there are some clear differences in the two models which makes buying proper accessories difficult. It'd help a lot to have a T-MobileUS specific section.
Two things need to be made clear to new users:
"Don't flash a ...51... series Radio to your TMOUS HD2, or it'll be bricked!"
"Don't buy a European HD2 case for your TMOUS HD2, because it won't fit!"
+1
I'm dying to find a good USB cradle.
+1 for this
me too! +1
Bump
I'm bumping this post because:
It got buried over the weekend to page 2.
I'm hoping the mods missed it due to the OP and plus-ones being written over the weekend.
I like to see my threads on the first page
Here's hoping...
even though this would be nice, I think we should be grateful to have a different section for ROM and General info. I really don't see the need for the different ROM section because I don't really look in the TMOUS section for ROM's personally because I know what to look for to make sure the ROM will work on my device, I know that this maybe for all the noobs around here (not calling you a noob) or people who need it in one space and don't want to search. I just kinda think that it is just making the site better then needed and I personal could deal without a driffrent section just for TMUS HD2's. I don't remember ever seeing different sections for GSM and CDMA version of different devices. I don't personally see this happing. Everyone is entitled to there own opinions though.

Hence the "Request" and not the "Demand" Seriously though, I would be grateful if it were just a single root and 2,000 pages. This site is tremendous and I have been blown away from Day One with the assistance from other users that is given away freely here every day.
That being said, I don't think I'm being ungrateful in asking for one more section. If that is the way it seemed, please accept my humble apologies.

Unfortunately, I did not originally know there was a difference. I had even picked out a (incompatible) ROM before looking for a Hard SPL. It was then that I stumbled upon the difference between the 512 and the 1024. It was also where I stumbled upon the "T-Mobile USA HTC HD2" root. Had it not been for the mistakes of others, who unfortunately bricked their phones learning the difference, I would have made the same rookie mistake.
As far as I can tell, this is the first time that a device difference this big has been released by HTC under the same general name (HD2, not Leo). This is the true source of the confusion, at least it was for me.

I haven't seen different sections for GSM and CDMA either, but then we are dealing with an entirely fresh set of eyes with this phone. If you read my "What Did You Go Through For The HD2?" thread, you'll see that a good portion of the posters there are professing to have switched from other Operating Systems from iPhone to Android to Blackberry.
That being said, I don't think that too many of the so-called "n00bs" are really that, just misinformed and new to HTC or even Windows Mobile. I am sure that it takes a certain mindset and tempermant to take your brand-new, roughly-obtained $500 gadget and attempt a maneuver that could possibly turn it into a big fat paper-weight. Thus, we are seeing a lot of new faces, but not necessarily naive ones.
---EDIT---
My PC keyboard died so I had to finish this with my phone
With the influx of new users, xda-developers will benefit by listening to the new users and adapting to increase the usability and manageability of the website.
The US version of this phone is slightly larger than the Euro version, making many of the existing accessories simply do not fit this device. This necessitates a definitive section that is clearly deliniated from the existing sections.
you certainly have the right too disagree and the mods have the right to ignore the request, but I also feel that it doesn't hurt to ask
Last bump.
If this doesn't get action, I'll drop it and start spamming the General board...

I know enough to be dangerous when it comes to these phones - but I am very curious and wondered if any one could shed any light -
If the TMOBILE and ATT Varients are so similar - which appears to be the case - and if the TMOBILE BOOTLOADER is unlocked - which also seems to be the case - Does this bode well for ATT Getting Unlocked ? or does one have nothing at all to do with the other?
I thought the simialarites between the two phones would mean that if one was unlocked it might lead to what needs to be done to unlock the other?
or - is this totally off base and proof again that I don't know a damn thing - ?
I wasn't sure where to post this - I didn't want to clutter up the Dev Threads but thought QA would be the best place - ?
thoughts anyone?
Best thing you can do is keep an eye on the "unlocked bootloader" thread in the Dev section. But only keep an eye on it! Do not post anything in it unless you have useable knowledge that can help them. I see that you know that already (and that's great) so I am only mentioning this for those that don't quite get it. Unfortunately, some have already posted in it even after AdamOutler asked that it only be used for unlocking the bootloader. Some people just aren't very bright. Anyway, back on topic, AdamOutler along with other Devs are looking into the possibility that the T-Mobile version may shed some light on the bootloader. Those guys know what they are doing so if it can help, they will know.

That is encouraging - fingers crossed that they can work this out. I love my phone - but I am not wanting to stay stuck on stock forever - not my idea of the best android experience - but I am also not willing to give up as easily as I have seen some ....
The reason for this post was to hopefully get some encouragement that TMOBILE's status might make it easier - and while there are no guarentees -it feels like maybe that is possible.
I will keep reading - and hoping and hopefully sometime soon.........
Hello everyone,
most of you probably don't know me since I did not develop for Samsung devices for quite some time now.
I would be interested in aiding the Exynos 5420 development scene (in particular on the Galaxy Note 10.1) and prepare a custom Android distribution for it (Team EOS 5.0 - Lollipop).
I can get all the required drivers and binaries I need for development, since most of it is open source luckily.
And the Nexus 10 (manta) can still be used as reference for many things.
All I need is a development device to debug on.
It is particularly important that this is the Galaxy Note 10.1 EXYNOS (WiFi-only variant), and not the LTE (Qualcomm) variant.
I created this thread to ask whether someone has a spare device lying around, maybe because of the little development on Exynos 5 devices, or if people would be willing to donate a device (I'm a university student and unfortunately can not afford the full price for a new device. I'm willing to dive into the Exynos development scene and spend time on this device though, including extensive debugging).
You can leave a reply in this thread or contact me on gmail: [email protected]
I have a better idea. Sending device is a problem. But we can donate to you, and then u can purchase P600 or P601 on SWAPA or EBAY. not new but fully working
I would be glad to see working AOSP/MAHDI or other ROMs runnig on my P601
Yeah, that was the initial idea.
I would pay any shipping costs or parts of a device (a used one is perfectly fine).
The issue I see is that probably not enough people willing to donate enough small amounts of money, hence I asked if someone had a spare device I could buy or pay the shipping costs.

I think it would be better to ask for donations because there is not a lot of people here although it would be hard. There have been previous instances where at least 2 different devs raised donations for this device before stopping development shortly after so people do have some trust issues. It would take a while but i'm sure people would donate considering you are offering an AOSP experience. If you renamed this thread to something like: Donations needed for new device- AOSP rom development. Then it would catch a lot of eyes because that's what a lot of people want The question remains whether people would actually donate. The average cost for you would be around 250-300 euros I think. That means you would need around 28 people (10 each). Whatever way you decide to go down, I wish you luck and I look forward to any rom developments if you do manage to get the device :good:
You seem to have quite a respectable history (in both Rom & kernel developement), so I think getting enough donations should be doable (and I'd be willing to donate a few bucks myself)
But I do have a few questions:
1) What about warranty? Some devs who had collected donations for a (used) device, have bricked their devices -> no more developement
Therefore P600 owners might be scared / hard to convince
2) what exactly is "Team EOS 5.0" and what makes it different from other Roms? Would you perhaps consider developing other Roms / kernels as well? (like porting over PA for example?)
Or would you maybe consider becoming the official P600 CyanogenMod maintainer (since we don't have one, yet)? [<- I think this one would be reason enough to donate]
Last but not least:
You could ask one of the XDA members who managed the previous donation-collections for help (they have successfully done it before, so they might be able to do it again :fingers-crossed: )
PS: The Note 10.1 2014 is great for college, trust me - I'm a student, too . All you need is the Papyrus-App from the Play Store.
Thank you two for your reasonable thoughts.
I think the main reason why the previous developers stopped developing for this device rather quickly is the Exynos chip.
The main difference between me and anyone else is (or so I believe) the fact that I am especially interested in developing for the Exynos 5420 chip and the drivers for it (mainly from the Insignal forum source).
As far as bricked devices, I can say I had a Samsung device before, and as long as the bootloader is unlockable and access to ODIN (The firmware flashing tool) is granted, a hard brick is rather hard to achieve. I see little risk here, and I assume my previous development experience will prevent me from making major mistakes in that regard.
A new device would cost me approximately 350€, so if we could collect about 300$ with donations (which would equal something like 270€), I'd pay the remaining costs.
People are of course free to check my development history and/or references first and see if they think I would benefit the aosp development scene for this device.
The ROM I mentioned (Team EOS 5.0 lollipop) is essentially AOSP 5.0 with selected features that we code ourselves, like EOS Weather, or the NX gesture interface.
If people however see the need for an official CM maintainer, I'd be happy to become this as well, all I need is a device to debug and develop on, I'd be willing to spend the time to officially maintain this device.
Other developers and/or contributors should also expect support from me in areas of kernel development or AOSP custom ROM development. I believe in 'sharing is caring', so all my knowledge and achievements on this device shall benefit the community.
If some of you could maybe contact the people who raised donations before, I'd be thankful and gratious for the support. All donations will be listed here and the whole process shall be as transparent as possible.

Hi. Here's the most recent donation thread which was successful :good:

I don't see why another thread is needed though. I don't mind opening one up for you but you might as well use this one if you just rename it and state your intentions in the op.

Okay, so if maybe one of you guys, with good contact to the community, could open a new donatiion thread to collect the ~300$, I'd be grateful.
Or maybe @drrasii could chime in here and edit his first donation thread and link here as a reference to let people know what I want to do.
As I said above, I'd be willing to become the official CM maintainer, or if CM refuses to accept this for some reason, I'd host the needed sources for the device on my personal GitHub and keep it updated so people can build whatever ROM they want.
Of course, the first goal would be to get Lollipop running on this tablet, which I'd start with as soon as the device is ordered/has arrived.
Hey guys. That donation thread I started a while ago was on a whim cause I wanted Hyperdrive by sbreen on my Note. Was lucky enough to have him commit and get enough people chipping in for the tablet which was met with success. I'm by no means a great organizer or somebody with tight connections here on XDA . Probably would be best if someone who wanted to head it up would start a new thread stating the case.
Best of luck!

Thanks for the quick answer.
Could one of you guys (@22sl22 or @r4yN) then open a new donation thread and explain a bit about this thread and my plans?
If we manage to handle this process rather quickly, people should be able to enjoy L on this tablet soon hopefully.

I'll also post a message in here after the new thread has been created so that people know http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10-2014/general/rumours-plans-to-android-5-0-t2861225
EDIT: before I open the thread, how much do you actually need? $300 is about 240 Euros, not 270 so we will need a bit more, say $350, would that be OK?
Thank you very much.
Actually, 300$ (240$) is enough, I'd be willing to pay the other 100€ myself if it needs to be.
I want to get started rather quickly and have L running on this device, so I'd order the device as soon as the 300$ are collected.
Why a P600 model and not the P601 model?
The p601 to develop is exactly the same from p600 plus the phone side.

Why the delay? Here are the first 10 €!

Hi RaymanFX!
Glad to see that a real dev wants to take our device and port CM11 for us.
I do not make many words, but simply push the first $ 12.12 to you.
That's the current rates for 10, -€.
Hope it works as good as for sbreen (dev from HyperdriveRom) and many people jumps like lemmings behind me. :good: Haha!
Hope also we get the money quickly together and will try to continue to encourage people to make a small donation.

Hey RaymanFX, excited for asop 5.0 but curious about some of the stock features that make this tablet. Is there any way to preserve multi window support or s-pen features ?
First of all, i don't wanna get flamed because of this, this is just a thought, nothing more, i just wanted to discuss abit more about this, since there's no real discussion thread in any forum about this. So, as we all know, there's no real way to unlock bootloaders wich have bootloader unlock allowed:No status. Yet. I think there is a way, because, let's be honest, it's not a hardware restriction. That means, someone, somewhere, with enough knowledge and experience maybe could unlock it. While Sony's software is really good, i am a long time XDA member, and with a huge history of devices, i really don't like being restricted on Stock ROMs and kernels. This situation has honestly never happened to me, and it's my fault not checking the device i took. Feel wise, this phone is the best i owned. It feels right. It feels premium. The battery is great. The screen is great also, and the camera too. I love it. Just the feel of being locked forever makes me scared actually. Mainly because i plan to stay with this phone for atleast two or maybe more years since it's just too great. And, seeing as Android grows, our device will already be outdated with the next android release. Sure, that's not a problem for users with unlocked bootloaders, since they will be supported with CM/it's kangs and AOSP custom ROMs for the next gen for sure, and maybe even the one after that. But what's with us that have bootloaders locked? Marshmallow and that's it? No more updates? No more security patches? No new features? That just doesn't sound right. Now, i think we, as a community, should really do something about this, yea, maybe it's not a big thing for many of you, and for you with unlocked BL's, but for me it is. What are my thoughts, and our options could be:
1. We could raise a bounty, and buy/give a phone to someone experienced with unlocking and hardcore hacking (the first name wich comes to my mind is @geohot )
2. We could do some research, ask opinions from devs and litteraly everyone we can, do some experiments with this stuff (but that requires someone really brave hahah)
3. I don't know, you can tell me below.
But i really think we should do something about this finally.
NOTE that this includes Xperia Z1/Z2 users also.
Guys i at least want disscus this. Call me stupid and call this all above nonsense, but if there's at least a small shed of light, any hope, we should discover the way.
And sorry for the long post.

There are lots of discussions about this in various Xperia threads.
Here is my $0.02
Geohot will not touch an Xperia device, he has had a C&D from Sony, so will not get involved with them.
No-one will seriously try to find a way to unlock the boot as there is a very simple way already, just buy a device that allows it. Why try and pick a very very difficult lock on the front door when the back door is left wide open. I understand some people have devices that cannot be unlocked but devs will always get ones which can.
Finally, have a look in the cross device development section for a thread about this. Munaji was trying to do just this but AFAIK he made very little progress.

It was a random guy selling it by the train station where I lived. I was skeptical at first as it could've been stolen but at the end of the day I had my head am filming so I just took video of the transaction. Got it $15 cheaper than what the store was offering it for with a discount with a month of activation. Sounded fair to me.
The screen is what sold me. So much space to it. A Google search later and I was sold on it from the processor, screen size, and internal space. For $35 it wasn't bad.
Tinkering with it these few months has been nice. I've never owned an LG device before this one, can't say I will after though. I'm a Samsung/ZTE kind of guy. Those companies love the developers.
LG released source code like 4-5 months after the phones release, which really sucked development wise. We were pretty much screwed from the getgo.
A year later and there's not much development done for it but we do have the people making the effort still and that is what development is about. The ability to keep trying g no matter how long it takes. Who knows? Maybe we will find something new, or maybe LG will give us a new platform update (mm or n).
In the meantime, I still carry 2 phones as this one is just to tinker on.
Why did you get this phone?

This thread is not designated for this discussion you're bringing. This is a discussion on why users have obtained this device, reason why exactly people got it. What they expected from it.
As for your comments, I did not take them personally, I took them personally on behalf of the developers and users of the forum. As a community we must work together, not tear down whatever foundation is existent.
As for your participation, from my knowledge you helped with the as330 model as best as anyone could, but the ms330 model - you copied a couple posts which did more harm than good. Multiple threads of the same information to newcomers confuses them.
